Really wanted to like this place. But seemed overpriced for what we got (and no posted prices inside so hard to order as a first time customer) Birria had no flavor or spice which was odd? And smothered burrito was barely warm inside (cheese wasn't even melted) and sauce on outside was cold cold? Even rice and beans weren't hot? Hibiscus tea didn't taste authentic and soooo sweet and watery. Seemed like it should be good and I liked some of the salsas so Just incase it was a one off- I'll give 3 stars instead of 2. Uncle Bertos is not your average Mexican restaurant. Their salsa bar is one of my favorites in Greenville. Locally owned in the heart of Five Forks, Uncle Bertos is a hidden gem. They are famous for their smothered burritos. I love their nachos, tostadas, and tacos. I've had their tamales before and loved them. Today they weren't the best but in the 25 plus times we've been there I've never had a bad meal so this one was a miss but not a big deal in the long run. They've added the ever famous Birria tacos. Guys for real... this place is legit. The food was fantastic - they start you with home made chips and bean dip that pretty much come for free with anything you order. We had a decent size group of close friends, so I got to try multiple different dishes on my first visit, and everything was on par. The quesadillas were AMAZING. The beef brisket taco - ABSOLUTELY. The bean dip and cheese dip - YUUUUP. I'm a little snobby about my Mexican food, but this will definitely be a repeater. I only wish I lived a bit closer to make this a regular visit kind of place! Today was our 26th year wedding anniversary and since we were unable to actually go out to a restaurant.we tried the food from this establishment located in Robuck today for the first time. We were pretty impressed! The food was really delicious and the portion size was adequate.I also had guacamole for the first time and really liked it. This is a great fast and casual place to grab lunch or dinner. I went during a weekday and opted for one of their lunch combos- it included two tacos with a side of rice and a basket of chips with bean dip and a fountain drink. I checked in with the Yelp app and redeemed the free queso dip which was served with another basket of chips! You order at the register and they hand you the chips/dips and your cup immediately and then call out a number when rest of your order is ready. On the counter by the drink station was a salsa bar that had a lot of different salsas to choose from. I appreciated that they had containers with lids for those wanting to take their food to go but still try some salsas. They all looked fresh and flavorful and overall the area was clean. My favorites were a bean and corn salsa and a green avocado one. The tacos were average size but definitely not large in size, however the toppings were plentiful and the combo was very filling with everything together! The tortillas for the tacos were each doubled so I actually pulled them apart and made by two stuffed tacos into four more manageable. We just picked up some pork and chicken tamales at Uncle Berto's new Roebuck location and they're by far the best we've found in the state. For some reason the others have had way too much masa, but these were just right, like we had along the MX-US border. The flavor of both masa and filling were excellent and the salsa verde and casera were also. We were just doing takeout so can't comment on the table service, but the lady at the front counter was friendly and helpful. Definitely a keeper. read more

I've tried this place twice. After the first time, I was excited to have found a decent Mexican joint in Greenville (recently moved here from Phoenix). However, my second visit kind of grossed me out. I had ordered online (very convenient), and while I waited in line, I noticed one of the employees on his lunch break was using the counter at the salsa bar as his personal table. He used the ladles of the salsas to put salsa directly onto his burrito which he ate leaning over the salsa bar . The ladle touched his half-eaten burrito several times . If this is what employees do in plain sight, it makes you wonder what happens behind closed doors . The food is good, I'm not going to minimize that, but I may need a little time to pass until I'm in desperate need of Mexican food before I return. read more

Amazing! Didn't have anything I didn't love. My first experience with Uncle Berto's was actually via a catering order I placed for a work event - it had good ratings so I figured I'd try it. The food was so great I had to come try it in-person. The prices are pretty reasonable for what you get, which is great. My boyfriend and I got two meals, two drinks, and a side of queso for less than $25. It's a pretty small place but there was a booth open so we ordered up front and waited on our number to be called. Our order came with a basket of chips and a bean dip for each of us, and the queso was served with a third basket of chips too. We munched on these while we waited - the chips were not warm, but they were thick and crispy, like how they are when we make them at home. The queso was also really good. I ordered a burrito with ground beef, no tomato or onion, added rice. The ground beef is what I remembered from the catered order being amazing so I got it again, and it was still great. It's also huge - with the chips I snacked on, I could only finish half - could easily be shared. The only thing I could ask is that it be warmer/fresher, but as it was I would still eat it again - and it was a better deal than most Mexican restaurants. Ate lunch here recently and I really enjoyed the food. I had the California burrito with chicken, and it was very fresh and tasty - the tortilla was freshly made and not prepackaged like most other restaurants while the chicken was juicy and flavorful. The burrito itself was pretty stuffed with all the basic fixings. Upon entering the restaurant all patrons are presented with (freshly fried) chips and a refried bean dip. Just moved into this Five Forks area and my eye caught this place one evening. It was so worth it!! The first reason for 5 stars is the horchata! It is amazing and the cup you get is huge in my opinion so great job. For the food, the burritos are spectacular. You get chips and a side of beans with cheese as a small appetizer-- it's wonderful! I'll admit I've only had the avocado burrito the 3 times I've been, but only because it's that good. My mom has had it smothered and likes it that way too. The size of the burrito could almost be split between 2 people or you could take half home for later if you want to spread out your calorie intake.
