I'm giving Uncle Bill's 5 stars. Yes, it is a bit pricey. No, they don't take Credit\Debit. Yes, they probably are sticking it to Uncle Sam! No, I wouldn't eat breakfast anywhere else! 5 stars for the quality food, service, and the overall ambiance. I considered 4 stars for the price, but everything is a bit more pricey at the Jersey Shore, and it really is worth the experience. People are waiting outside of Bills and not walking around the corner to Polly's Place where you can get a table instantly, even if you want to sit outside by the bay at the busiest time of day. Why? Because its just that good! As many have posted...these people know how to turn a table around! There is an almost constant flow in and out the front door and you won't wait long for a table...It amazes me how quickly they can serve a table full of pancakes, they must have the grill going constantly. Once you place your order your food will appear before you believe it! Bills offers numerous varieties of pancakes and the normal breakfast staples...Eggs, Sausage, Bacon, Ham, Scrapple, Waffles, Home Fries...as well as some lunch offerings...grilled cheese, burgers, chicken fingers...I never sampled the lunch items, but was very pleased with anything I had for Breakfast, including the pancakes, waffles, eggs, scrapple and bacon. Service was friendly and attentive, and as someone pointed out the girls wear short terry clothlike onesies...i'm fairly sure they all have their bathing suits on underneath and are ready to break for the beach by 130 everyday! Not a bad deal for a student working thru the Summer. This chain has been running at the shore for over 40 years! Its well worth a visit...I ate at Bills 5 of my 6 days in Stone Harbor and will do it again next time I'm in town! read more

Although I have been going to the uncle Bill's pancake house in Cape May for years, I had never been to the one in Stone Harbor. Apparently, this is the original location which opened in 1962. We had a very nice experience, with friendly and prompt service. The prices were reasonable and the oatmeal cinnamon raisin pancakes did not disappoint. It would have been nice if real maple sera was an option. read more

Uncle Bill's has been in Stone Harbor about as long as I can remember, and for a good reason: they really know a lot about customer service. We always have a great experience at Uncle Bill's, and they're also reasonably priced. We always get seated quickly, are given great friendly service, and we receive our food very quickly as well. Our orders are always done correctly and taste delicious. This time, I had the order of buttermilk pancakes and a side of toast, which were all really delicious. My boyfriend had eggs over easy, sausage, and a side of toast which he enjoyed. In the past, I've tried bagels and cream cheese which are also good. They're usually very good at keeping your cups of coffee and glasses of water topped off. We always come by to Uncle Bill's at least once per summer. read more

Efficient and friendly, this diner (yes, I call it a diner) gets you in and out quickly. I find it to be okay, but my son loves their waffles. I find the food to be the same quality as any good diner. But there seems to be a lot of nostalgia associated with this place. If you are visiting from out of town for the first time, I guess you would want to eat here to say "I've been to Uncle Bills." But unless you're a regular to the shore, you'll think that it's just okay. Bring CASH - no credit cards. read more

My husband and myself had been to Bills many years ago when we were dating and married without children. They serve the standard breakfast fare featuring, of course, lots of pancake varieties!! The best part about Bills, is that it is always filled with families gathered at the Jersey Shore on vacation. You just know the tables full multi generational groups are making memories while enjoying a delicious breakfast. One notable fact about Bills is that you may use a credit card to purchase your meal, but they will not add the gratuity on. You need to leave your tip in the form of cash. Uncle Bill's is legit. The pancakes are delicious. Light, airy, bubbly, and swimming in an ice-cream scoop sized globule of butter (they need to chill). It's very simple and the food comes out in about 10 seconds. My first trip to Uncle Bill's I opted for my personal favorite, blueberry pancakes (with a side of bacon). They were good but all the blueberries were concentrated in the center so some bites were just hot explosions of blueberry juice. Perhaps some spacing out would benefit these. Second trip to Uncle Bill's I had eggs, bacon and plain buttermilk pancakes. Everything was great. The bacon here is amazing. Cooked perfectly, not too fatty and not too crispy. Always a great breakfast at Uncle Bill's. Had the French toast stuffed with cream cheese..it was great and not too sweet.

So, service was great but the food was trash. Ordered crepes got pancakes and may I add dry and gross pancakes at that. My friend got stuffed French toast wasn't stuffed and tasted terrible....we still left the girl a 20% tip for the simple fact of she was great and I just can't bring myself to complain to an employee about another employees job. So I won't be coming back here and definitely won't be recommending it. read more

The Bad - Expensive for what you get. The pancakes must be cooked in mass as they came out luke warm and rubbery. There was nothing great about these pancakes. A great pancake cold is still amazing, so it wasn't temperature. If you think these are great pancakes you probably also think Domino's Pizza is great. Thankfully the keep the pancake recipe a secret so I won't have to eat them again. Western omelet was a mass of filling wrapped by a thin layer of eggs. The omelet didn't come with home fries. The coffee was mediocre at best. They also don't have sweet and low. Off peak times they leave tables dirty for a long time. Also they don't take credit cards which is ironic as you need to take out a loan to pay the check. The Good - The waitress was great. Fast and friendly. If you want a fast breakfast the only way to beat their speed is a buffet or McDonald's drive through. The prices are so high they rounded my check off to the nearest dollar. Who cares about making an extra $0.19 when you charge a family of 4 with 2 small kids over $50 for what would be $35 in most northern nj diners. This is another beach town restaurant that would have real problems serving this quality of food in the real world. This place reminds me of a rest stop on the Parkway. I ordered the waffle with peaches. The waffle was good, but all they did was open a can of peaches in thick goopy syrup and dump it on top. I understand peaches aren't in season yet, but at least get the kind that are canned in juice, spear them with a fork, and shake off the excess liquid before placing them on the waffle. With that thick goop everywhere, it was sickly sweet and a complete mess. Oh, and they DO take credit cards, contrary to other reviews. They have a machine. The machine works, BUT their person working the register slides the cards super-slow so they don't go through, then tells you that there's something wrong with your card and to go use the ATM. She tried two different cards from my group and said the same thing. I told her to try the card again and actually swipe it this time, and watched as she did. Lo and behold, it went through! But of course, if the card goes through when they run it as credit, THEY pay the credit processing fees. If they can convince you that something's wrong with your card and get you to use their ATM, YOU pay the fees which they get to keep. They have a vested interest in pretending your credit card doesn't work--and they do so. read more

Before you order anything, check out the mound of bacon kept on the shelf outside the kitchen. Know that it is placed there by the bare handed kitchen worker, and watch how each waitress , after checking her order, will pluck slices of bacon from this mound, again with the bare hands that have touched so many other things this morning, and arrange the bacon the plate. And it truly is like my Uncle: reliable, efficient, warm, has a house full of young female collegiates in obscenely short white dresses, and asks for a wad of cash before you walk out the door. I find the Stone Harbor location charming, especially compared to the brand-spankin' new ones. You may wait a little outside, but once you place your order you'll get it lickity split. Oatmeal raisin pancakes taste like giant cookies, corned beef hash is delightfully salty and the hash browns here are perfect crispy cubes of potato seasoned like spicy fries. Oh, and they're amazing at accommodating funky requests (like substituting fun pancakes for the buttermilk ones in the combos)! And make sure you don't sleep too late, they close everyday at 1:00pm! read more

I ordered the banana pancakes but they are basically the dollar stacks with a banana sliced on top, but twice the cost. Service was fast and efficient but definitely a tourist trap. Crazy busy as usual, but the tables move quickly. Nice variety of pancakes (buckwheat, corn, blueberry, pecan, apple, etc.), French toast (plain and stuffed versions), and eggs/omelets. The cheese omelet with ham was wonderful - it is made with American cheese which I love, not cheddar as many others do. Rye toast was great too - real rye, not some watered down version of rye bread. Don't forget your cash - this is a cash only place. Breakfast for 3 came to just over $30. I do have to say this - they've been making their wait staff wear short white dresses for decades, and now the girls are wearing short white "dresses" that look like long t-shirts (are are about as see through). You're down the shore so you can expect to pay a little bit more but this place does it right. "Uncle Bill" has eight locations and Stone Harbor was their first location some 50 years ago. You have to love the classic paper placement menus that is filled with various breakfast options. I love the peanut butter pancakes but there must be over a dozen version of pancakes to enjoy. Soft, fluffy and terrific! Scores of eggs, omelets, waffles and breakfast meats. The meats include a Philadelphia favorite scrapple (Habbersett brand) as well as bacon of course. But the only bacon they accept as payment is cash, unfortunately. What I really like about Uncle Bill's though is the service. As I mentioned in my opening statement, they just do it right here. The waitresses are always super friendly, they bus tables quickly and get people in and out. This place is a pure throwback. My fiancee and I went for this Lion's club fundraising special there. $6 each got us pancakes, breakfast meat, coffee and juice. The food was really good. I'm used to some great LI/NYC diners and I think the pancakes were top notch. We took a look at the menu and it looked like it was actually kind of expensive for breakfast food. Maybe that's to be expected in Stone Harbor but still. Anyway, if you stay to no frills pancakes and bacon/sausage, I'm sure you'll have a good meal and not drop too much money. read more

When I first saw the gigantic flock of people outside, I thought this place would be fantastic. Maybe my expectations were a little too high. We were seated quickly, which was surprising, considering how packed the place was. Our waitress was nice but extremely slow. This would have been forgivable if she hadn't forgotten several items and taken an eternity to refill our coffee and water. I ordered the Buttermilk Pancakes. For a place that apparently prides itself on pancakes--they were pretty average. Actually, everything about this place was pretty average. I'm in no hurry to return. read more
