This past summer I have been on the lookout for the best ice cream in Mercer County and this place. Definitely takes the cake. But baby the peri 'pause had me catching the business end of a hot flash while I was running errands a while ago so I decided to finally check out Melba. Truth be told I was all but in before I spontaneously combusted at Shop Rite because they posted their newest flavor drop - Bay Leaf Stracciatella. I ADORE unique and savory ice cream flavors and had to taste it for myself. A woman on a mission, I didn't even think to ask for samples and just blurted out my order without seeing what else was on offer. Oops. Anyway I got 2 skewps on a delicate sugar cone (BTW, much like ICE, waffle cones should be abolished). It was delectable. Not at all sweet, the bitterness of the chocolate was very forward and the bay leaf was reminiscent of soup lmao. The texture was divine. My favorite kind of ice cream spots offered out-of-the-box flavors and this place is one of them!! They offer Ube, Black Sesame, Guava Cheesecake, and the one I got, Buttered Cornbread, Ice Creams! They also have some Vegan flavors and Gluten Free flavors. Something for everyone! They also have cookies if you have a crazy tooth that's sensitive to cold. I love this place! The service was nice. They looked a little tired but tgey still managed to smile. The place was super busy but they had seating outside, on the porch, and inside. Mini aesthetic spot for late evening sweet treat. Very crowded with hyper sugar pumped kids but most are with parents who watch them. The lines got taken care of very quick. Wait time was not even up to 10 mins even tho they looked mad packed when I arrived. I got the: - Chocolate Chip Cookie(10/10) - Moon Rocks small shake(8.3/10) - Total price with taxes- $10.61 The servers Reece and (another Caucasian girl with colored hair who helped me record my vlog) were super helpful. I've been trying to get here almost since they opened. Their hours did not coincide with the few times I passed by on my way home from Princeton. Once, on a hot spring afternoon I purposely drove here within their open hours, but they were mysteriously closed. The stars aligned last night and we were able to sample after dining out nearby. My first impression was the lack of a dark chocolate choice. The one option in the case was grey colored as it was an Oreos flavor, that wasn't what I was looking for. The flavors were a bit unique, but I was at a loss as to which 2 flavors I could pair together. On a whim I decided on a strawberry buttermilk cheese cake and was pleased with it. A REAL strawberry flavor, almost like someone's homemade jam was throughout, along with veins of graham cracker crust. The buttermilk gave it extra cream flavor with a nice tang. I'd get again. My date chose the cornbread flavor, it's served with warm honey on the top. We both liked that a lot too. They do also offer vegan and more standard ice cream flavors as a sign indicated. Armed with the knowledge gained from this first trip, I have a few pairing ideas now and will likely be back. Interior wise it's the same feel as it's predecessor, maybe more seating now? It's not a surprise that Melba is AMAZING! If you've been to gingered peach, you know the team turns out amazing treats. The vibe and ambiance of the space is adorable and you can tell alot of love & thought went into the decor. The old school dishes are also a really nice touch. The ice cream flavors are unique and delicious. I was lucky enough to try quite a few during their first week, but I think they pared down to two samples per visitor. I held off on writing this review for over a year. Last year, we visited when Melba was new, and I ordered an ice cream sundae made with the Purple Cow ice cream. The sundae itself was incredibly disappointing and almost gross, because the person who made it put way too much hot fudge in (yes, there is such a thing as too much hot fudge) and the Purple Cow flavor was not how I remembered it being. I couldn't finish it. I loved the old Purple Cow shop and I love Gingered Peach, so I didn't leave a negative review and I was willing to give them another chance. We gave them another chance today and all I can say is WOW! My tastebuds are blown away! I ordered a flight which included a scoop of the S'mores, Moon Rocks, Lemon Blueberry, and the Strawberry Buttermilk Cheesecake. The flavors were amazing and packed a punch. It's really hard to even pick a favorite because they were all so good. The only (minor) downside is that because the weather is hot, I had to kind of eat quickly, otherwise my ice cream would have turned to soup. The young lady who served us was friendly and helpful, and the store is similar but slightly more upscale on the inside than it was under the old owners. We enjoyed our ice cream out on the porch. Melba has more than redeemed itself in my book, and I look forward to our next visit! read more

I got the lemon blueberry and peach cobbler flavors. peach cobbler was sooo good. especially if you're a fan of cheesecake. The lemon blueberry was yummy as well but the blueberry in my scoop was very overpowering, sweet, and icy. A longtime customer of the Gingered Peach I usually end up with their baked goods in the am and miss out on Melba. But finally we were in town mid-afternoon and made it in the door. We each ordered a flight of scoops---and that was a lot of ice cream....neither of us could quite finish it all. My fave scoop was the dark cherry--it was exceptional both in taste and texture. Next up was an ice cream flavor I've never seen--I had it in bubble tea recently on the West Coast so it is sweeping the US...mango sticky rice. Great big pieces of mango really set this apart from any ice cream I've tasted. There were also scoops of guava and strawberry mixed with cheesecake and other flavors both quite sweet but not as strong flavor profiles as the first two. The finishing touch were the four waffle cone wedges in the shape of ice cream cones.....Jo Ann's love and creativity is in every bite.
