This place is special enough for a dinner date and festive enough for family dinner! Wonderful! However , I ordered the chicken soft tacos, which had a fishy taste and a bone! I couldn't eat it after that. But on the other hand, the awesome gentleman who was waiting on us, really took care of us! He brought out another fresh batch of warm tortilla chips & made sure to remove that dish off of the bill. Such service! I will be back again though! Went in for a Black Friday margarita and some good food. They changed their menu, and the consistency of the queso is like grits. It used to be soooo good! Alicia, our server, made the visit awkward too. She mentioned her tips were short, but she also forgot several things from what we ordered which frustrated us more. We never received our entrees and upon receiving our receipt, we learned they were never put in. As we were enjoying our appetizers , we thought it was kinda weird for her to ask if we wanted churros or dessert. We paid for our app and drinks, but left to finish lunch at Torchy Tacos. While surrounded by fantastic alternatives, Uncle Julio is a destination you should consider! My favorite journey so far is starting with the White Queso and Chips (their chips are light and crispy!). Then I love their carne asada (they use skirt steak and grill it fairly well), asking for some homemade tortillas and pico to turn it into the most amazing tacos! The downside is their desserts. Their Chocolate piñata is excellent and quite entertaining when/if available. From there, it goes downhill. Their churros are rather underwhelming, and there is little to say about their sundae. First time trying this place out. My server was Thomas. He was super friendly and extremely helpful. I chose to have a date with myself which I don't get very often. I ordered the Guadalajara Signature trio of fajitas. It came with 3 bacon wrapped shrimp, skirt steak and grilled mesquite chicken, a side of guacamole, sour cream, cheese, Mexican rice and carrots beans, corn or flour tortillas ( I had a mix of both). A side of chips and salsa was also brought out upon my arrival. The service was excellent. The food was good,nothing really spectacular or stand out. The flour tortillas were delicious while the corn was rather bland. I tried the mango passion lemonade and it was very good. I would definitely come back when I have a larger crowd. I want to try the chocolate lovers piñata. ThIs location has outdoor seating and is located in Chisholm Creek off of Memorial Rd in Okc. Also,they offer military discount too. I have a friend that has told me I really needed to try this place and I was finally able to do so today. I ordered the Carnitas fajitas and man the pork was so tasty. It may be the best tasting pork I've ever had. If I only had the meat and nothing with it I would have called it a great meal. Really liked them as a fajita. Wife had the Barbacoa fajitas and thought they were a bit spicy. I like spice so they were fine for me. However, the pork carnitas stole the show. Portions were good too. More than half of our food was not good. $250 bill didn't even get us decent food or anything to go. Will not be back. We came in as a party of 9 (incl. 2 kids). There to celebrate my mom's birthday on a Sunday afternoon. There was NO wait. Restaurant was maybe half full at 2:00. No one cared for the HEAVY Worcestershire flavored steak. I had a salad which was okay except the bacon was burnt! It was a lot of bacon too. The jalapeño ranch was good. The service was good too but quirky. He kept the tortillas coming but they weren't even good! We got the chocolate piñata which has gone up to $35! It was lots of chocolate to go around but only enough fruit samplings and churros for maybe 3-4 people to get a taste. Overall, a huge let down. I remember liking this place back in the day. But to be fair, you're not at Uncle Julio's because you've just came back from a trip to Mexico and you want something authentic. Uncle Julio's is kinda like Chick-fil-A where you're like, "this food shouldn't cost this much...but darn it if they aren't friendly" But also, the food at CFA is good so this comparison is irrelevant. Moving onto other, more awful things... No amount of service goodwill will negate the gimmick that is the Chocolate Pinata. For $30ish you get to play whack-a-ball with a chocolate mold and $5 worth of Sysco fruit. Frankly, I'm impressed by UJ's marketing team and their ability to get people to trip over themselves to order this hodgepodge of a dessert. Overall...no thanks, not for me. Margaritas were solid. The food was delicious and plentiful. Our server was so sweet and attentive. A minor complaint is my fish tacos. Either they over-seasoned it, or the fish was badly charred on the grill. It was so smoky. Also, I would've preferred more crema on the tacos. Our waitress Lisa was phenominal! Now for the food: the salsa is a 10/10. Not every tex-mex place gets it right but UJ does! If you're not careful, you'll be full before your entree even comes! I ordered the "chicken bowl" minus the chicken for a vegetarian based option. They were able to substitute my chicken for satueed veggies which consisted of bell pepper, onion, avocado, zuchinni and mushrooms! It was so tasty and the flavors were amazing! Didn't realize Uncle Julio's had been sold. Our last 2 visits have been terrible. The service is slow and they get things wrong every time. They have a new menu that is now just way overpriced and doesn't offer the quality and uniqueness that UJ is known for. The marg menu has changed and they are not good! Our first visit, I chalked it up to them having a bad day. Our second visit yesterday...during a non-crowded lunch with terrible service again, I looked up to see if they had sold. Yes, they did...to the parent company of Taco Bueno and a list of other fast food restaurants. They are going to tank the Uncle Julio brand, they are turning it into a sit down, very slow Taco Bueno. We won't be back, which is so sad because it was one of our favorites. When you're at Uncle Julio's, you have to get their fajitas. We always get their steak fajitas, and the meat is flavorful and tender. They have great margaritas, but they are strong so be careful. Also recommend trying their white queso and adding ground beef for a real treat. Everyone should have at least one of their homemade flour tortillas as well. Come hungry and look forward to still having leftovers when you leave. It can be a bit expensive, but this is a nice spot for an occasional "just because" treat. read more

This is my second time eating here. The location and vibes are great. The restaurant is dimly lit and nice and we found it clean. The waitress was nice. The food was okay not the best. They bring out chips and salsa (salsa was sweet and not hot) you have to order queso separately. I ordered the Tex Mex meal which is 2 enchiladas and a taco. The enchiladas didn't have much flavor, rice was subpar. The alcoholic drinks were very good. This restaurant is on the pricier side and I feel you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere. We did the Piñata dessert and it was very good and would recommend! Overall I would come here again if I was invited, not by choice. read more

I usually look forward to eating at Uncle Julio's when visiting (we live overseas and miss American Tex Mex often). Granted we typically frequent the DFW locations but I wanted to try the location in my hometown OKC. The salsa was what their salsa consistently tastes like: smokey flavor and tasty. The chips are fresh, thin and crunchy. No complaints on those items. The yellow "chili con queso" was ABSOLUTELY a waste of money. I would have rather had Ted's queso instead. It was bad.. too salty, definitely tastes like "high school concession stand out of a tin can from SAM's"cheese with a pinch of diced tomatoes. ELEVEN DOLLARS for queso that tasted like salty glue-ish "cheese". Please do not waste your money like I did. I'm very disappointed and the quality of service I received from the bartender who took my drink and to go order made the experience even more sour. Took him 10 min to even acknowledge me but he happily refilled the only couple at the bar tops drink order. They were not busy at all. The wine was overpriced and I was shorted on the pour but it was good. There are other great TexMex restaurants in OKC. Avoid this place if you want authentic tasting Mexican inspired dishes. The alcohol is way too expensive for the size you get and its definitely watered down, the house margarita tasted like juice didnt taste a single ounce of tequila they were also 12 dollars a piece which I wasnt aware of till I got the bill, not the waiters fault I shouldve asked for a drink menu but I assumed it was more like 8 dollars per when I saw the size of the drinks. However, maybe be good for larger groups as there were lots of children and families. We sat at the bar area which is nice but also very large and crowded.
