We go to this location a couple times a month and have for many years, but I think that's over. My boyfriend and I went in to eat there at the table. I ordered nachos and had lots leftover. I asked for a box and more salsa to take home. The waitress brought me the box and two very small containers to put the salsa in. She did not however bring anymore salsa. I was then informed if I wanted salsa they were going to charge me another $3.50! That's asinine! I'm sitting at the table. They bring you all the bowls of salsa you want while you're eating. So I asked as we're paying the bill, and was told no. It would be treated as a to go order and I'd have to pay extra. Well they didn't lose a $3.50 purchase from me. They lost all my future business. Please DONT GO HERE!! Worst management you can find. We went there a couple of months ago and while we were eating we saw a hair in the chips they gave us. When we called the waitress she pretended she didn't see anything, we even showed it to her and all she said is I can bring you another one. We were like no thank you, how do I know there are no more hairs. We didn't even finished our food . My husband was grossed out , we went to pay and my husband requested talk to the manager and when he asked her if the waitress told her what happened she said nobody told me anything, she was very rude and didn't even apologize or said anything to excuse what happened. My husband told her that we go there 2-3 times a week because we work close. But after that we were not coming back. He asked for some kind of discount. Which she gave us a $5 off out of a $40 bill. We even tip the waitress. We got a $25 gift card which we can only use on certain stores . So I told my husband let's go use it, waiter was good but when we were done my husband asked to put his leftovers to go. We end up forgetting them and after dropping me off at work he went back to get it. BIG MISTAKE, the same lady we had an issue was there and told My husband that there was nothing in his plate and then the cook started shouting from the kitchen " I thought you were not coming back and then the lady which was the manager said you didn't even paid for your food. Which was a total lie we paid close to $10 extra and tip the waiter $5. Chelinos to my knowledge is an Oklahoma chain of Tex-mex restaurants. This particular one was on south 89th street. While nothing was wrong with food or service there was nothing that stood out as well. It was pretty much a good meal at a decent price. read more

Never have I ever had a waitress come out after us to angrily accuse us of not leaving a tip! For real! The bill was $102.00 for two enchilada dinners, one double fajitas, two kids beans and rice, one kids fajitas and another extra side of beans and rice. Plus non alcoholic drinks. She was tipped 20.00 on the receipt, which brought the total to $122.00! Look at the receipt lady! PLUS nephew left $20.00 on the table and grandma handing her another $5.00. She thought that $5.00 was all she was tipped and came out waving it in our face saying, "This is all you leave for a tip?!! And shaking her head, when we were trying to tell her she was wrong. Went back inside to show her that the tip was on the receipt, she didn't even say sorry! Well, I think someone took her tip from the table and pocketed it their self, and she just didn't look at the receipt, regardless, you don't come chasing people out of the place accusing them of not leaving a tip!! On the food, it's cheap tasting Mexican food, nothing special. You lost business, Chelinos. I will never be back, and my family won't either. read more

We enjoy eating at all the Chelinos, but the best of them is at SW 89th and Western. We especially enjoy the quesadillas and the enchiladas. The atmosphere is very family friendly and pleasant. Chelino's is good for the price. They have a lot of seating, which is nice if you have a large party. The wait time usually isn't very long either. They offer complimentary chips, salsa, queso, and sopapillas which is always a plus! I ordered the shredded chicken tamales with borracho beans. They were good, my only complaint is that the borracho beans had way too many onions in them. Also the presentation of the food is just average, if that is something you care about (I don't really care as long as the food is good.) I love Chelino's. My family has been going to this location for several years. The service has always been spot on and the atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The beers are always cold and the food is always hot! I've eaten at multiple locations and this is the one we keep going back to the most. They have competitive prices and you always get complimentary chips, salsa, and queso. We were out of both queso and tortillas. I looked around for my server for about 10 minutes but couldn't see him anywhere. There were 3 different bus boys leaning up against the wall so I was hoping one of them would see me looking around but none of them seemed to notice. Also, I had placed a Togo order and instead of waiting until we were finished eating... He brought it out before I was even halfway finished with my food. Whenever I visit this chelino's I have never had any problems when I dine. Did an order online and they messed up one of the sides and one side was missing. They offered me a 50 cent refund for the side they messed up. I told the guy what about my missing side?! I told him I just wanted what i ordered and it really irritated me that all they offered at first was 50 cent refund considering I was gonna have to drive back to pick up what they messed up. They finally offered to give me a whole new correct order. Pretty decent chain Mexican food restaurant, not the best but not the worst. The waiters do they best they can do with the little English they know. I think our waiter asked us if we were "okay" about 10 times...and it was the same line every time. I had the burrito Norteno, it was very bug and 2 people could share it. A Mexican food snob from S. Texas, I set my expectations low for dinner tonight in OKC. Wow! Was I ever surprised to eat one of the finest meals ever here. I had shredded chicken enchiladas with green tomatillo sauce, rice and beans. Superb tomatillo sauce with excellent rice and perfect beans. The salsa was incredible too. Simple and tasty with fresh jalapeños. But the plate that blew me away was the botana platter of thinly fried onions, thinly fried jalapeños and thinly fried potatoes accompanied by a whole sliced avocado, lettuce, sliced tomato and lime wedges. I've been wanting Mexican food for a while, that and pancakes...Oklahoma is lacking a place that serves a really good pancake, but I digress. I've been craving chips and queso and a good taco. Chelino's ALWAYS delivers in those two areas. We came to this Chelino's for lunch on a Sunday around noon. It was a little busy, but not overly so, so we were seated right when we walked in. Our waiter greeted us and took our drink order in a timely manner. I was wondering why it was taking so long for everything else, but then I noticed he was the only waiter in our room and had a 12 top and another small table plus my family. That poor guy... I hope everyone was as understanding as we. I ordered Fiesta Nachos and a ground beef taco on the side. One of my children ordered a kid's meal that included a cheese enchilada, bands and rice with an apple juice. Not bad for 4.99. The other one of my children ordered a side of rice and beans only (he's easy to please). It was all that was expected. The taco was tasty and the kids ate most of their dinner. I'm not sure what my husband ordered, but he ate it with no complaints and quite quickly. I will say the sopapilla that you get at the end of the meal could have substituted for a hockey puck. I've definitely had better, I didn't finish it, but it wasn't terrible. If you're in the mood for a taco and some really good chips and queso, I would suggest Chelino's they have those items in the bag. read more

Ate at Chelinos around dinner time after living in the San Francisco Bay area for a year. I'll tell ya what: you don't get this kind of Mexican food over there. Free chips, queso, and salsa always start the meal off on the right track. You can request tortillas (corn or flour) as well. You know when you're at a table waiting for your food at a restaurant and a server comes in the general direction of your table? You know that feeling of disappointment when the food goes right past you to another table and you kick yourself because you know the food wouldn't be coming out that quickly? That NEVER happens here, because the food comes out almost immediately (be careful-- the plates are super hot!!). The service is usually pretty great and the prices are fair. Great place for casual Mexican dining. Don't forget to wash all that food down with a free sopapilla. read more

Our waitress made little eye contact and was usually walking away while we were still talking. It took forever to receive our set up, and we were never offered refills on our drinks. They over charged my card again!!! . When i called to ask them about it the manager said looks like you didnt leave a tip...I told her i left cash on the table. Then she said well there's nothing i can do. if you want to come by i can give you back your money. Its not the amount of money. Its the dishonesty. Its never a lot of money they take, its always been small amounts each time. She was very casual about the whole thing. These are dishonest people. It has happened more than once to me at this place. Chelino's has been a favorite spot of mine in Oklahoma City for a few years now. It's sentimental in many ways, and many memories have been made here. Today was the first time I'd been to one of Chelinos locations in a while, and it didn't disappoint. Our waiter was excellent. Which, in my experience, the staff are always amazing and don't even give you a chance to ask for something due to them being so observant. The food was excellent- as always. A drink in an ice cold goblet/schooner with lime pulp and salt all around the rim. Fresh salsa and sauces that taste straight out of the garden, and unbelievably reasonable prices. They bring out salsa and cheese dip at no extra charge, and be sure and ask for a plate of grilled onions, jalapenos, and tomatoes they bring out with tortillas as an appetizer, and it's under 2 bucks. The shrimp cocktail which is in an unbelievable sauce with huge chunks of avocado mixed in, and their chile relleno are two of my fav's, as well as cheese enchiladas, guisada (spelling?), & SO much more. All three were okay, but nothing exciting My husband got the guiso with an egg on top, and that was actually pretty tasty. Service was good and fast, even though there was a large party and we were warned our food might be slow coming out. When it comes to Mexican food, I want it to be authentic - comida auténtica. This place has it. I am also what is known in the United States as a "Chile Head". I crave jalapeños, serranos, y habaneros and sauces made from these peppers. This place delivered on that, too. The waitress brought me an excellent habanero sauce reserved for people like me. It was great! I had the chicken fajitas which were superb. But, everything on the menu looked wonderful. When I come back I'll be sure to try several of the other dishes, too. One more thing, the waiters and waitresses here (meseros y meseras aquí) are excellent. When my waitress, Martha, came to my table, I asked her if we could speak Spanish together. I'm studying Spanish and I always take the opportunity to practice with Spanish-speaking people whenever I can. Martha was wonderful in that regard and in her abilities as a server! I highly recommend that if you come to this wonderful establishment, you ask for Martha. She is so good! Great food, great salsa, great service. Even the cashiers are terrific! I had an extended conversation in Spanish with two of them and had a wonderful time doing so before I left. I highly recommend this establishment. This is the first Chelino's at which I ever ate. I was impress from the beginning. One of the impressive features is the number of people of Latino decent that frequent here. A pretty good sign this is good Mexican food. They have authentic and Tex-Mex. I must say I'm a little more drawn to the Bricktown locations as I enjoy being in Bricktown, but thinking about this place makes me want to take the kids there for the feel of my first Chelino's experiences. read more

Stopped for lunch since it was recommended by a co-worker. Cheese sauce was hot, regular salsa was very acidic. Couldn't really enjoy it. Ordered the chimichanga lunch item. It was on special for $4.99... they billed full price. After mentioning it, it took a few minutes to fix it. The food was decent enough, although the chimichanga was a bit overcooked. Rice and beans were the same as you get anywhere. Overall, it gets 3 stars for this visit. Maybe another location would have a little better service and food. read more
