Even before COVID, I haven't been to happy lately with this restaurant. So I have not gone back. But they sent me a decent coupon, so I thought at least one more try so I didn't have to cook that night. I guess I should have saved my money. I ordered the family kit of beef fajitas using their App. The app quoted me a pickup time and so I planned to be there at that time. When I finally got my food, I had been waiting an additional 40 minutes. When I got home, my order was missing the queso I ordered and the beef fajitas were not cooked enough. I had to cook anyway because I couldn't serve my family the meat the way it was. It's a shame that a restaurant with such potential when it first opened has let things go from my opinion. read more

Arrived ten minutes early for a reservation made on Opentable. Hostess declined to seat us despite a half full restaurant because we were early. A manager intervened and sat us. Some of the worst Mexican food I have eaten. I did curbside pickup and the food was cold when I got it even though I was there at the time it was ready, which means they must have given me some leftover food or something because veggies and meat from a fajita shouldn't be cold after a minute. Also I paid $15 for a pint of quac and what I got was not a pint in any sort of measurement. For $20 you can have a spoon full of cold veggies and some cold chicken that clearly never touched a cast iron, truly famous fajita. Complete rip off and I would dissuade anyone from ordering take out, thank you for ruining my wife's birthday dinner Uncle Julio. While the bill may not be for the faint of heart, the novelty of this Mexican scratch kitchen is one to indulge in once in a blue moon. Make sure to take a look around the establishment, as the owners took great care with the decor. We love the various colors of windows and the giant lamps. The smells wafting through the open kitchen are enough to make your mouth water. While you wait, the roasted salsa and chips are a delicious way to tide you over. The place is almost always busy, so the food may take a while to reach your table. While we pretend that as adults we are far too sophisticated to go to a restaurant ONLY for the sole reason to gorge ourselves on dessert, that is a big, fat lie. We go to Uncle Julio's for the infamous chocolate piñata. Yes, I said chocolate piñata. $25 a pop, but enough to feed 6 people and a great birthday alternative to cake. It is a large chocolate dome suspended over a wooden board and filled with fruits and churros. The board comes with cream and an assortment of chocolate, caramel and raspberry sauces. The come out with a wooden baton you get to break the piñata with and then enjoy the fillings and chocolate to the fullest. My family and I had to wait at the host stand for almost 8 minutes on a not busy day at all, even after calling on the phone I finally got someone up front and the young guy working the front still made us wait an extra 5 minutes for a table. It's awful that the other workers noticed us waiting there and had no urgency to help us what so ever or even acknowledge us. It's sad because last year when we came here everyone and the food was great this time around the food was gross and cold couldn't even finish. I'm not sure if management has changed. I initially hesitated to come to Uncle Julios because of the sub-par reviews. I am glad I listened to my gut and gave it a try. We visited the restaurant on a Saturday night and were seated immediately in spite of them being pretty busy. We loved the chips and salsa. the chips were light and crunchy and not overly salted. The salsa was warm and flavorful. I ordered a strawberry mojito and it was to die for. I am not a drinker but this cocktail left me craving more. It was the perfect mix of sweet and boozy. They use fresh strawberries and simple syrup. For our entree, we ordered the crispy beef tacos with rice and charro beans. The tacos were delicious and tasted like something my Abuela would make. the rice was flavorful, piping hot, and not dry at all. I loved the charro beans and so did my guests. I am typically more of a refried bean girl but these were delicious. We loved Uncle Julios so much we went back Monday for the same meal. read more

The parking lot was designed and engineered by ray charles and Stevie wonder. Great musicians but horrible at drawing plans for a parking lot. The amount of twists and turns in there was just stupid. Happy hour: drinks are good restaurant wide! But should you want an appetizer, well tough luck muchacho you can only get the happy hour apps in the bar. Well there's all of 10 people in here, can you just let it slide? Negative. Absolutely ridiculous policy. Food: fajita for two. Ordered the beef for medium well, and was blue still in the middle. Update: Came back to try this place again and was taken care of by Jason Padilla one of the managers. The service and food this time was excellent. They have really stepped up there game. Thank you Jason and team for the great experience. Been to the one in Dallas several times and enjoyed it. Came to this one first time and waited an hour for the seat which for a Friday night was completely fine and understandable. When we ordered our food the brought out our fajitas but no tortillas. Three waiters later and 20 min we finally get our tortillas for the fajitas. The bacon wrapped shrimp was not cooked right at all and didn't come with any sides for $24. The tortillas soup the large was extremely small and half of it was tortilla strips. For the price the food and service was very subpar. Too many other Mexican restaurants in the area that are half the price and better service and food. I would skip this place. read more

Since moving to the area, and wanting some good Tex Mex, we made Uncle Julio's our go-to place. Always brought friends and family there when they were in town. Now I'm not sure what happened to this place, but it's certainly nowhere what it used to be...the quality has both gone down: both experience and food. The experience: We waited about 10-15 mins on the patio (there was one other table), and watched a server talk to her table with her back to us the whole time. I ended up going inside to order our drinks from the bar. When I returned the server was STILL talking to her table. She ended up noticing that we were there, made an excuse, and basically threw her manager and staff under the bus: blaming a girl for not coming in and the management not knowing what they were doing, etc. Should have just left right there, because her service was terrible the rest of the time. Barely making an appearance, forgetting to put the appetizer in, so the entrees came out before it even came. She ended up charging my wife $2 for a side of dressing, and acting like she did us a favor when she mentioned that they "comped" our appetizer, which we never got anyway. The food: There happy hour prices are deceptive, and will charge you $5 more for a flavored margarita, when they didn't before (mgmt says that the "happy hour changes all the time"). The salsa is like water that has a few vegetables thrown into it, and it doesn't get better either. The quesadilla and salad that we had was easily reproducible anywhere else: nothing memorable. The bottom line: if you are going to charge the prices here AND give terrible service, you need to have great tasting food. But this place none of the above. Really disappointed, and will not be returning. If I wanted to sit outside by the water to eat, I could easily fill the inflatable pool with water and eat a microwave dinner and have the same experience that I did at Uncle Julio's. It's a shame too, because this place has potential. But I guess since the Management reads these comments, "they will pass them along," but I think the history of terrible comments combined with the acknowledgement of poor performance, means that It's just lip service. Go somewhere else for your dinner. Tex Mex in this area is abundant. read more

Uncle Julio's has just opened a new location in our area, serving Tex-Mex that I'd compare to Alicia's or Mi Rancho, though they are aiming to be more upscale. The place is hugely popular, you can see from the other reviews that it's constantly packed. Obviously they are going to be successful here. I went in on a Saturday for lunch. The wait for a table was 25-30 minutes. I was by myself so the bar was an option, but it was packed also. A seat at the bar opened up within a couple of minutes so I was able to avoid the long wait. I was quickly greeted and started by a friendly bartender. Bar service doesn't always work that well, especially when places are busy. She started me with some thin, crispy tortilla chips and a pleasingly spicy salsa. The menu has mostly standard Tex-Mex offerings, with a few interesting upscale choices like fajitas and lobster. That says something right there--this place is not for the faint of wallet. I'd say prices are 25-30% higher than comparable Tex-Mex. I went for the carnitas tacos. Carnitas is a good test--it's hard to do well, usually comes out dry. They were on corn tortillas with cheese and cilantro. There was cilantro-lime rice on the side, along with black beans and the usual pico and guacamole. The carnitas were decent, I'd say a little above average--only slightly dry. OK flavor but not spectacular. I did not care for the beans, they were very plain. The rice was OK, I like it better than, say, Chipotle's version, but I personally prefer saffron or traditional Mexican rice. My food and service were OK, but there were other people around me sending food back. My wife went recently and found her food to be bland. I would say they might have some consistency issues. The ambiance is very nice--comfortable seating and an attractive interior, and it didn't seem to get overly loud even though the place was full. It would be a pleasant place to share a meal with family and friends. The bathroom was spotless and fully functional even with such a large crowd. Overall I think the place will do very well, but I can only give it 3 stars based on value--decent food and good service but way pricey. read more

Came here today to celebrate my son's birthday. He's a bit young for parties so having a chocolate piñata is the next best thing for him. We've been to Uncle Julio's several times, although this was our visit to one here. We arrived around 5 so it wasn't too crowded and we got seated immediately. Our server introduced herself and we could tell right off the bat this was going to be a good meal. She was very personable and joked along with us whenever my husband cracked a joke. We ordered the chicken tamales, 2 cheese enchiladas, and 2 kids quesadilla dinners. The tamales were good and I really loved that hatch sauce. Quite the kick and I love that. These are my go-to when we come and I don't have a huge appetite. The kids' quesadillas looked delicious and very stuffed with cheese. Both of my kids ate all of it. My husband was satisfied with his enchiladas. I had my favorite margarita: El Jefe. I don't know what it is about chile margaritas but I love them. This one never fails to deliver. I did notice that they used ancho chile here versus the jalapeño that they use at the Maryland location. It definitely gave it a better flavor for sure. To finish off the meal we got the chocolate piñata. It takes some time to get it but when it did make it to our table, our server made sure they wrote "Happy Birthday" with my son's age and helped us sing to him. You can never go wrong with that piñata. They have a chocolate lover one as well. We've had it before and it's amazing though it's a bit of a chocolate overload, lol. We tried our best to finish it but unless you have a group of 6+, we've found that it can be quite tough to finish it. My son lived his best life, though, and attempted to eat an 1/8 of the chocolate. Made for a huge mess but it was great. Uncle Julio's is what you'd expect from a chain Tex-Mex restaurant like Chevy's or On the Border. Normally I'd just give it a 3 since it was a fairly typical experience, but I give it a 4 for its great staff and our wonderful server. I'll have to update this once I find her name on the receipt.
