I am not really an Asian foody but this is great food. I love the chow mein and the salt and pepper pork chops are unique and delicious. Lunch special is great and owner is very friendly. Down side is its small and the kitchen is out in the open which can be a little off putting and I don't think the have a bathroom which kinda sucks when your on your lunch. When this place first opened it was great...but ever since they came back from China last May, it has been horrible. The last time I ordered I took my food back because the food was bland and they barely gave me any food. I ordered the Cashew Chicken and it had more celery in the food then chicken. Had not been here since January, and was disappointed in the quality of the pork used for sweet n' sour pork for the #2 lunch special for April 30th, 2011!! If you are going to use a cheap cut of pork, at least fry the pork so the fat content is crisp and not soggy in the mouth! No excuse for having to spit out the pork and throw away all but 4 pieces in two lunches! My friend couldn't even eat her pork, so I brought it home with me and I couldn't eat the pork either!! Someone just sent me a compliment about why review a place I have not eaten at. The note she sent was not exactly a compliment, and thank you for reminding me to update my review with a 2nd visit I walked out on without food. First off, the sign says "OPEN". When a sign says OPEN, it means you are OPEN to provide a service and ready to serve customers. Second, I have no idea that they were going to close in "20" minutes. I see an OPEN sign, it means OPEN to me. I HAVE NO Crystal Ball! I returned there another time when it was a hot summer day. It was so stifling hot inside from lack of air conditioning, we left without ordering anything as we really wanted to sit down and enjoy a meal out. In addition it was smokey in the restaurant. I went there for the first time with my young kids with me. Service was very friendly, reasonably fast. No soda machine but chilled cans at $1 each (just 5-6 name brands). I understand there's no bathroom but didn't need to find out! Food was hot, fresh, plenty of it for the money. Lemon chicken was two breast filets, hot and crunchy. Broccoli beef pretty standard fare, chicken chow mein the same. We took about half home having eaten plenty. Wow! I was shocked to see such ho hum reviews of my favorite grub in Oroville. Here are a few tips, cuz if you didn't like Pings, it's gotta be because you ordered the wrong thing! 1. If you like fried food- Try the salt and pepper fish or pork. I know people who are literally addicted to these! 2. Instead of getting rice or noodles- Try the pan fried onion cakes. They're flakey and delicious. Be sure you order something that has sauce that you can dip them in. i.e. black bean sauce etc . 3. Order some fish- Ping is an ABSOLUTE MASTER at cooking fish and shrimp. Perfectly tender. Any dish will do. My faves are shrimp in lobster sauce or honey walnut shrimp, and salt and pepper fish or fish in black bean sauce. 4. Ask what kind of veggies they have that day- There are green beans and bok choy on the menu, and they are both fantastic. But if you ask, there may be mustard greens, Chinese broccoli or some other Chinese veggie that you've never had. Ping loves to cook authentic food and won't mind a bit. One last thing. Pings is super reasonable. If you eat family style (share) with a group of pals, You can have a feast and you'll get outta there for like 8-10 bucks a person. read more

Uncle pings in the best Chinese food in Oroville. I have lived here for 6 years and come from a much larger city and the other Chinese food in this town is just ok. Uncle pings food is fresh and made to order. The first time there it took a bit of time, but the food was good. I have returned 2 more times in just as many weeks and it was considerably faster. The food is delicious. The Honey Walnut Prawns are the best I have ever had, and I have had them a 2 other places in Sacramento and Uncle Pings blew the others away. Their War wonton soup is very good and the you get plenty of wontons and the veggies in it are NOT chopped into tiny little microscopic pieces and are NOT mushy. The broth is very flavorful unlike the competition's down the street. I have recommended them to everyone I know and everyone has good things to say. I have been going there since the day they opened and there food has always been good.But i must say that is no longer the case. the amount of meats chicken beef and especially the shrimp has been cut in half.the size of the shrimp in the war wanton was nice now there small and some of the original ingredients are missing. The house fried was was fantastic with nice pieces of chicken and beef now its all chopped up into tiny tiny pieces.Now i ordered it a few weeks ago and drove all the way form Kelly Ridge and returned it. I made a To go order in the restaurant today and was charged immediately after ordering, that is fine with me. I was asked if I would like to add anything to my $24 dollar bill, I added $2 for tip. I got my food quickly and that was nice but once the gentleman called my name to let me know my food was ready he placed my bag on the counter and proceeded to engage in a conversation with another customer about the latest update on their Andriod phones... In my mind I just tipped $2, paid $24 for two meals and an appetizer, and I get my meal in a bag placed on a counter. I look in the bag and see there is no condiments, plastic silverware, or even napkins in the bag so I thought I would ask for some. So I wait, wait for this conversation about cell phones to be over so I can get a little service. I finally have to interrupt the conversation to get the service I just tipped for. I then get home.... My order is wrong! So I can just to verify my order and to make sure I wasn't charged for a dinner (which I asked for) and not just the entrée. I speak the same guy who took my order and he then informed me that I ordered the entée, told me sorry, have a nice day and hung up the phone. We've been going to this hole in the wall for a few years now. They were closed down for a while. (Rumors had it - most likely health code violation related, but, in openly admitting that's just the rumor I heard.) It was everything you'd expect from a hole in the wall, but with really great food. Ever since they opened back up though, it's been terrible. I understand different cooks may alter recipes between each cook, so you may not get the same dish of general chicken from one day to the next, but tonight's was by far the absolute worst I've had yet. The sauce tasted like Contadina canned sweet and sauce mixed with a little sriracha. The chicken chow mein was "ok". Service was the worst it's been. I think the worst part was the paper menus (think the kind you get you stash in your junk drawer so you can order take out late one night), the styrofoam cups, plates, plastic utensils... it just all felt very cheap. And all for the same prices from before they shut down. I figured I'd give them another chance since they opened back up, but I will not be going back again. read more

I love going to Uncle Ping's for lunch. Although at lunch food is served from a steam table in order to provide quick service to those with a limited lunch time, they cook in small batches so the food is fresh. At night, they have table service. They have incredible home made pot stickers. When they first opened there were some issues, but they have learned from experience. I prefer them to the other Chinese restaurants in town. I would give 5 stars but as mentioned by another contributor, there are no in-house restrooms. The public restrooms aren't bad, but I like to wash my hands before I eat. The people there are very friendly. I miss Victoria and Jerry at lunch time since they are both going to school. If you haven't had the opportunity, give them a try. read more

I am so glad that Uncle Ping's has opened up a resteraunt in town.Oroville has been stuck with horrible chinese food for years.Tong Fong Low is to chinese food as Taco Bell is to mexican food.I come from the San Fransisco bay area,where the chinese food is almost always good anywhere you go.Uncle Ping's has the best food I've had since moving to oroville. There food is far superior compared to Tong Fong Low's.I love this little place.
