This is my favorite breakfast place in Bloomington-Normal. They've lost the 'Uncle' in the name, but that didn't hurt the food. The Belgian waffle I had this morning was crisp, light and not doughy, just perfect. The skillets are a must; my fave is the Mexican, full of egg, potato, tomato, cheese, chorizo and jalapeño. This little gem is hidden off the main road, but super easy to get to and the best place to get your standard breakfast foods. Food is hot and fast! Great place to stop, right off the interstate and close to Heartland and ISU campuses. It's old school style with the griddles in the middle of the tables. We attempted to go to another highly rated breakfast place in town with a 40 minute wait. Famished, we chose to go down the road to Uncle Tom's. When we walked in, we were greeted promptly and sat down in a booth. (Don't expect anything fancy!) Sue was our waitress...and boy was she good! I tend to be ornery in a fun kind of a way, and she gave it right back to me!!! We both ordered skillets, which came in less than five minutes. I told her, "That was fast...I'll have to give you a $2 tip instead of a dollar." She said, "Oh boy! Let me see what else I can do right!" On my way back to Chicago from Decatur. In need of some brefas. Coworker looked up pancake houses near by online and Uncle Toms popped up with good reviews. Drove 50 miles and stopped in at Uncle Toms. They did not disappoint. I had steak and eggs with a side of pancakes and a coffee. Pancakes rocked!! Steak and eggs were very good too. Coworker had country fried steak and eggs with a side of pancakes. He loved it. And the prices are very reasonable. Only $11 and change for each of our meals. This has become my new favorite breakfast spot! The service is fantastic. As soon as you walk in the door they greet you and seat you. They are so friendly. The food comes out fast and always warm. The Dixie Breakfast is my favorite. Its unique and delicious! The Eggs Benedict is also fantastic. Their pancakes and gyro meat is wonderful too. I have never had anything bad there. The thing I love most is if something goes wrong they don't make excuses or blame others they simply apologize and fix it. Not much more you can ask. Highly recommend this place! read more

Super underrated in my opinion. It's cheap, home style food made from your grandmas home recipes. The atmosphere is very much like a sit down and have a family meal and even get to know the people around you if you want too. It's definitely one of my favorite places in Bloomington Normal and a great place for families, older people, or broke college students who need something other than ramen. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on Thursday March 13. The food was great, the service was very nice. We had a chance to speak with the owner and he is friendly, funny and very good in the kitchen. I was not very impressed with other parts of our time in Normal, but LOVED our meal and hope to get back soon. If you are passing through, I would STRONGLY recommend this restaurant. The waitress tired to TIP HERSELF!!! Our food was 8.29 x2 = 16.58 + the dollar for cheese and a 10% state tax.. which would equal out too 19.84. She charged me 20.94.. then when confornted she said it's correct. Then asked if we wanted her to go re check it, she did and got the original price that I also forgot to mention, she had at the bottom of the receipt but scratched it out.I DONT RECOMMEND. read more

Usually I am all for cheap food, but this food is not only cheap...it tastes cheap also. The pancakes are nothing to rave about which many people stated before on the reviews but I had to check for myself. I got two eggs with my breakfast and asked for over medium. What I ended up getting was over hard without the yolks cracked. The yellow was completely done. More than likely won't be back. Sat there for an hour today waiting for an order. The waitress gave drink refills and said that it was coming right up. Then she disappeared for 10 minutes. The hostess went to check, then came back to tell us that the order was just that minute given to the cooks. Pointless waste of my time, and I'm not returning to this location. read more

If I could give this restaurant lower than a 1 star I would. Absolutely terrible service. They skipped over us multiple times giving tables to others who arrived after us (there were only two of us). No apology. Once seated we ordered shortly after. Eggs and pancakes took them 45 minutes to cook and we finally received it after asking. The food was also sub par. The waitress never came back to ask if we needed a refill or how the food was. The employees also served us without a word, even the manager. Tom's Pancake House is a great place for good down home cooking. Really awesome staff.. Several of the staff have been there for years and will begin to set your table when they see you drive in. Unending coffee and smiles. My grandchildren love the childrens pancakes and often ask to go back. Family owned...they are friendly and anxious to please.. I prefer the egg dishes and skillets, but they have a delightful Rubin sandwich with real potato french fries not frozen.. Good Stuff.. Bring your fat wallet...you'll need it. The food is good but grossly overpriced. A meal they call a 3x3--3 pancakes, 3 eggs, 3 strips of bacon....order coffee along with that....total $9.40. Add in your tip and you're well over $10 for breakfast!!! Dennys or Cracker Barrel is cheaper than this. Uncle Tom's Pancake House is one of THE BEST restaurants I have EVER had the pleasure of visiting. The food is so wonderful and the service is AMAZING. I just found my new favorite breakfast spot in town. I got the Chef's Omelet. It was awesome, very flavorful. They have a huge menu with all your favorite traditional breakfast options. You have a choice of toast or pancakes with your meal. Of course, I chose pancakes. Then the waitress asked "Regular or pumpkin?" #wut. From the reviews this looked like a good place...not! I ordered the Eggs and French toast combo with bacon. The food was mediocre at best. French toast tasted like it was cooked in oil,not butter and they were over cooked. Eggs didn't seem like fresh cracked eggs, but rather liquid eggs that comes in a container. My son had the pancakes and hash browns and he said they both tastes good. If we are ever back to the area, I would skip this place and go some place else..sorry. Pancakes are some of the best I've had. I can't compare them to IHOP or Denny's - these are far beyond those rubber tasting cakes. This place is not easy on the eyes but the food is delicious. Ok, it's not a fancy place, but WOW! is the food good. We are breakfast out people. And their Omlets are the best we've had in 35 years. Fluffy eggs with generous fillings OMG. And their hashbrown are sooo delicious. I asked and found out the are cooked first and then fried. They are just great.
