I would do a 2.5. So for starters we order sausage (didn't get any), we had a 14" and a 10" 14 was way under cooked 10 was okay. It's like the oven was way to hot and they burnt both pizzas but the dough wasn't fully cooked. Which tells me they don't clean there kitchen properly. 2:30 in the afternoon, pretty quiet. 5 stars but the table was covered with crumbs. Val ordered a pio Grigio glass of wine, Val was impressed, great taste, not your average. We ordered a 10" combo pizza. Just the right amount for us. Excellent sauce and toppings. The thin crust is not my favorite but it was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of toppings. Nice little local place. Very clean and neat. There are TVs and they sell lottery tickets if you are into that. I like their sandwiches - try the half turkey. It's big enough for one person. What this place lacks in service it makes up for in food. The taco salad is really good as is the build your own calzone. The calzone is huuuuuuge and could easily feed two hungry people and have room to take some home. I think they purport to have the best burger and fries. While I don't remember the Burger, the fries weren't bad. Though this place has the feel of a bar, they close at 9 and take those hours pretty seriously. I think we came for dinner one night at 8:30 and they were practically vacuuming under our feet. Though I have been here a bunch of times I don't rank as a regular yet. I've not been eating a great deal of meat the last several years and that has been perfectly OK. When Ron suggested picking me up after work (in the pouring-down rain no less) and eating at this restaurant, I was all for it. Given the name of the restaurant, and after checking it out on Yelp, of course, visions of calzone danced through my head. Uncle Vinny's is a tidy and attractive diner-type restaurant decorated with 1950s-era memorabilia focused on Parkrose itself and automobiles. Sometimes this type of decorating can be really awful, but someone with skill and taste did a great job of organizing this into something pleasant and relaxed. There is a tiny bar right out in the dining area where the television played so quietly. We seated ourselves and could hold a conversation with no trouble - so, so nice. The restaurant is scrupulously clean. Our very pleasant waitress greeted us to take our beverage request and dinner order. Ron, my unrepentant meat-and-potatoes guy, wanted originally to have meatloaf, but they had a prime rib special which also made me tumble from my calzone stand. I knew it was risky because sometimes these sort of specials are just awful. We needn't have worried. Our dinners started with a gorgeous dinner salad for Ron (lots of veggies) and chicken wild rice soup (lots of chicken and rice in a creamy base) for me. Our prime rib was tender and tasty. The other sides of baked potatoes and green beans were nicely prepared. Uncle Vinny's is a deeply traditional restaurant that is extremely well-run and knows their demographic. The food is solid and so not trendy. But they know who they are and that's saying something. They've also been in this business for years in comparison so many newer restaurants don't figure out their identities in time and fail quickly. We see this in Portland with some frequency. Given all this during the election season, Uncle Vinny's gets my vote for a return visit. read more
