Went in May 15, 2025 around 2pm and asked if they had smoothies or shakes, they didn't-that's fine. I settled for a chocolate milk from the fridge instead. At the register I input my debit card pin # 3 times and it wouldn't go through. I ask if I can slide, the cashier says yes. Sliding prompts you to insert chip...cashier just stares at me and the other lady comes over and say you have to know your PIN number. Guy working the deli counter is great but the cashiers left a bad taste in my mouth. Some advice from someone who is familiar with customer facing roles: don't assume your clients are stupid and ESPECIALLY don't tell them to their faces. Living a town over from Uncles Deli I have always been a fan of this place. It's great for a quick bite, and I have recommend this deli to many people not from around here. I will say the service is a little overwhelming when they get really busy, but just stand your ground and know what you want! You can also call ahead - I usually do to avoid the lunch crowd! One of my favorites is the Californian which is a wrap. If you're looking for something on the lighter side it's really good! Overall it's just your classic deli! read more

These reviews are wrong! I randomly passed this place on a business trip, thought it would be just a quick lunch but ended up having the best chicken parm sandwich I've ever had. Like the other reviews I was really disappointed by the poor service. If you place an online order however you don't really need to speak with the rude staff, just give your name and get your food. I got a pretty substantial chicken caesar wrap that was enough food to eat for lunch two days in a row. I can't give over 3 stars because the service is that bad, but if you can look past it (and check your food before you leave) then it may be worth giving Uncle's a try. read more

The sandwiches are amazing but the customer service is ABYSMAL. Today's experience: 1) They messed up half of our order. We ordered several turkey clubs among other things, but they some how interpreted that as turkey cheese (though never was I asked what kind of cheese...? So not sure how this happened). This was particularly frustrating because my family live 30 minutes away and we are visiting this week from DC. Further, I called in my order rather than using a platform like GrubHub to ensure that they didn't incur any fees, though clearly that bit me in the bum. 2) They were not very helpful when I called about getting the sandwiches replaced. a) I called 3 times in the course of trying to work out our options (delivery, credit, etc) before ultimately driving over. One of the things that was consistently offered over the phone was that they would have my name and # on file and next time I came in would replace the sandwiches. I called when I was en route to ask them to prepare the sandwiches. At this point, they choose to tell me for the first time that I needed to bring the incorrect sandwiches back. This never occurred to me because we are in a pandemic and we had opened/touched all of the sandwiches checking if they were all the same or if we just got one by mistake. I apologized and noted that no one told me this, explained I was already halfway there, but could easily get a photo as proof. The sudden need for me to return the sandwiches makes me wonder if they actually would have honored the name/number option if I had come in the following week? Or if that is just something they say they will do hoping you just forget. b) They were totally obtuse when I was on the phone. I was explaining how the sandwiches were wrong because they only had turkey and cheese on them, nothing else. They kept interpreting it as if I was choosing to drive an hour because they gave me cheese on the sandwich instead of bacon, even though I directly corrected them on this. Ultimately, they brushed me off on the phone saying that they would deal with it when I arrived. 3) They were straight up rude and unapologetic. I came in, ready to discuss and get this all set straight (e.g. pay the difference on the turkey cheese v. turkey club sandwiches, make clear what went wrong and correct it, move on). The woman who seemed to be the manager and who I spoke with on the phone shoved a bag at me and admonished me for not bringing the sandwiches back saying how next time I had better bring the incorrect sandwiches back because she was not ok with giving us 6 free sandwiches (???? there were 3 and given the gas/mileage I had to expend on these f***ing sandwiches for your mistake, I think we can call this even). It took everything in me to leave and keep the bounty of expletives running through my head to myself. I have been going to Uncle's Deli since I was a kid. Anytime we were in Darien I would BEG my mum to go. When I come home from anywhere, it was always among the first places I wanted to go (I had my mum greet me at the airport with an Uncle's turkey club after returning from study abroad in college). Today was my first Uncle's sandwich since having a baby a few months ago (you are advised against eating deli meats when pregnant) and it takes a lot more effort these days to run any errand, let alone take an extra hour to re-do an errand that you thought you had completed. Mistakes happen and goodness knows after the past 18 months we all need to show more understanding/grace, but the abject rudeness and bad customer service in response was inexcusable to me. In venting to friends today, it sounds like this service is just endemic to Uncle's. So, I can't see myself making the effort to go again in the future. Wow!!! Where do I begin..... I ordered 4 items. A cheese steak with onions on a garlic wedge, grilled cheese, potato cones and a bologna sandwich. All 4 items were a joke! The cheese steak came on a plain Keizer roll, no garlic, no cheese and no onions and taste rancid! The grilled cheese was burned, the cones were burned and were actually hollow!!!!! BAD experience. Uncle's would not honor the price printed on their catering menu. Instead of the $15 a foot wedge price clearly printed on the catering menu, I was charged $20 a foot. My bill came up to $172, $40 more than it should have been according to the Uncle's menu. Got two sandwiches for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. There were a few ppl in line in front of me, but I got lucky that a table opened up outside as our sandwiches were ready. Uncle's is seriously making me sad/upset. I came in here a few days ago ordering three of the same sandwich (one was plain with dressing) and another very similar sandwich. They got the entire order wrong and didn't even put them on the right bread (only one was correct). They couldn't even handle the PHONE orders they had coming in, let alone the small line of customers. I've seen Uncle's work under pressure during the lunch hour rush but the staff is different during the week. You pretty much have to write down exactly what you want and hand it to them if you are ordering three or more sandwiches. Though I don't even think that would help. The woman ringing me up was aggravated at ME because she forgot to ring up three out of the four sandwiches and accused me of not telling her I ordered them. Except there was another employee standing right next to her as I explained what I ordered. She apparently couldn't handle my measly order. Oh and $2.95 for an Orangina and $2.75 for a Vitamin Water is OUTRAGEOUS. I hate that they don't list their prices anymore because they are "subject to change". $7.25 for a sandwich with two toppings is ridiculous. This place is so full of themselves. Unfortunately this is one of closest deli's around but I will most likely head on over to Brenden's 101 from now on, which is miles better than this place. read more

I'd maybe give this deli 3.5 stars but the price really made a difference as well as that the bread wasn't my favorite. The menu consisted of about 10 options for roll ups and panins and a few sandwich options which I thought strange: usually there are lots of sandwich options, a few wraps and paninis, or you can make your own. Items ranged from chicken parm to a cheese steak to any type of Boar's Head sandwich meat. There was about 12 lbs of bacon made on the grill that looked amazing. I spied a wrap I really enjoyed but rather have it a wedge sandwich (+ $1). Turkey, fresh mutz, avocado, lettuce and tomato in a wedge sandwich. The thing that came out was monstrous and I asked my man to share it with me. He obliged reluctantly. The sandwich, with 2 bags of chips and a soda rang up to be $17 and change! Wow. Those are some steep prices. The sandwich itself was decent. A wee bit flavorless but that could have been my order. As my bf and I take bites, I turn to him and say thank god for the Jersey sub. This is a great regular joint but, I have learned my lesson next time, I'll stick to one of the premade sandwiches so you know what you are dealing with price wise. I think I have written 3 reviews in 5 years, all good. But after being put on hold for 10 minutes only to be hung up on for like the 5th time in last 8 calls, I had enough. The people here at so rude, They ask "What do you want?" like an exasperated parent scolding a toddler. They ignore you when you walk in to pick up your order. Almost everyone at my office (22 of the 27 people) grab lunch from this place during the week. The wraps, sandwiches and salads they choose always look tasty. I passed by a mean lookin' roast beef wrap the other day. I've been two or three times and haven't gotten too extreme with the ordering (tuna wrap, turkey and American on whole wheat). Reasonable and wide variety of choices. Lots of Nantucket Nectar's and a few hard to find drinks. On a hungry morning, $2.75 for an egg and cheese is a good deal. First off, lady at the cashier was extremely rude. Second, our order was completely messed up. We had to go back because one sandwich was not in the bag. Both philly cheese steaks were burned, fatty, and no flavor. I said no onions and there were tons of onions on one sandwich. We used to go here all the time for lunch and haven't been because of the rudeness and mess ups. I work down the street and a lot of us in my company building have stopped going here . The Spanish women on the weekend is so rude and nasty . I've been getting sandwiches here for years so it is tough to write a negative review, but I just can't with this place anymore. The food is terribly inconsistent they get orders wrong all the time because they almost never write anything down. Honestly I've put up with that for a while because its just deli sandwiches and they are just ok, but its pretty over priced and I feel like the lady at the register just makes the prices up sometimes. (I can't prove that but I have my suspicions) But the final straw is their rudeness, look I have worked multiple jobs in the service industry I know how hard it is to deal with customers day in and day out especially in a town like Darien, but there is just no excuse for the attitudes I see from the staff there.
