We stopped by here for a caffeine fix Sunday morning and I'm glad we did. The baristas were very nice and patient despite how busy it was. We ordered the lavender mint latte and a regular latte. Since we were last here, over a year ago, Uncommon Coffee really upped their baked goods game! I was so great to see the space overflowing with sweet quick breads (gluten free, too!), several types of muffins, scones, croissants, bagels, cookies, cakes, etc. They also added a few more syrup flavors (including lavender!) as well as some additional drinks on tap like kombucha, switchel, and nitro cold brew. Really wanted to like this cute spot, but it fell short for me. It is in a great area downtown. We ordered two blueberry muffins, one bottle water, and one decaf tea. First issue was that this small bit of breakfast cost $16! Second issue, and we both agreed, was that the muffins were somehow virtually tasteless and most unsatisfying. While in a Saugatuck on a recent weekend, I decided that coffee and a croissant were just what I needed to start my day off right. A quick search on Yelp brought me to Uncommon Coffee Roasters. I set the gps and was lucky enough to find street parking when I arrived. Signs indicated how we should circulate through the building, and after a very short wait, I ordered my coffee and croissant at one side before picking it up in the other side. I took my pick of the ample outdoor seating and unwrapped my ham and cheese croissant, whose buttery and flaky exterior matched the golden color of the fall leaves. This place was really cute. I've been to Saugatuck numerous times but had never stopped by. We were meeting some friends who were also in from out of town, and my friend suggested we meet up here for coffee/drinks. I'm not a coffee drinker but I scoped out the menu beforehand and they have a chai tea latte on the menu, so that's what I ordered. It was a bit pricey but on par with coffee shops in my area (metro Detroit) - about $6 for a large with almond milk (non-dairy milks are an upcharge). My boyfriend got a fancy coffee drink which was about the same, maybe $6-6.50. It ended up being about $15 with tip and tax, which is a bit much for two drinks but oh well. They have a nice indoor area to sit, or you can choose to sit in the garden area out back or the tables in front by the sidewalk. Our friends apparently were already in the garden area, but had wanted a front/sidewalk table, which we had snagged, so they came around to meet us. Overall, a very nice coffee place, and I would come back the next time I'm in Saugatuck. read more

Went on a Sunday morning and this place was hoppin! It's a cute little coffee shop cafe with limited indoor seating and outdoor tables. You get in line to order and they call out your name when your order is ready. The line went pretty quickly and was a short wait for your coffee and food. My group got breakfast sandwiches and everyone was happy with their order! They also have a "build your own" option for sandwiches which I loved. Coffee was great too! Tons of seating indoors and out, plenty of retail items and a huge menu of food and coffee drinks. My absolute favorite part is their dog order window. Since they don't allow dogs inside (besides service animals), they built an order window that you can walk up to with your dog. As for their drinks, I had an almond milk chai. It tasted nothing like chai however. It honestly just tasted like cinnamon toast crunch cereal. It was delicious but not at all what I expected. Espresso was nice and smooth. My coworker heard about my quest to support local coffee shops from across the country and immediately recommended I try Uncommon Coffee Roasters. I owe her big time. Not only is their website super easy to navigate, I loved that I was able to learn more about the owners behind the biz, their stance on diversity and inclusion, and how they main sustainability. On top of that, I was able to really pick a few different blends that spoke to me, including their famous Virtue Cider Bourbon Barrel Aged Cider beans. I was already intrigued; but even more excited when it finally arrived. Though the pro-tip is to try it as a cold brew, I adore it hot. From the moment you take a whiff the beans, you know you're getting something special, and when you drink it, it's super smooth and gives you those cider notes while still paying tribute to the flavor of the coffee. Oh yeah, it definitely packs a punch without making you jittery, so that was another big win for me. Shipping was super fast. Though I hadn't ever planned on taking a trip to Saugatuck MI- I may need to reconsider. One, so I can check out this amazing shop, but two, so I can stockpile an empty luggage full of beans! My husband and I stopped by here with our two dogs to get a coffee. During the weekend, this place was line out the door each day! When we found a cute spot outside, my husband agreed to wait in line and order for us. There's an outdoor spot to order as well if the indoor line gets too long. This place is pretty stinking unique. Their speciality is cold brewed and hot coffee, although they offer other beverages and a few sweet treats. What I found most unique about this place was the garden area in back of the building. It was quaint and cozy with flowers, tables for seating, a water fountain, and an area where a masseuse gives chair massages. My friends and I grabbed a cold brew and sat in garden area while waiting to grab a quick 15 minute chair massage. At $15 for 15 minutes, the massage was a treat but not long enough for this "knotted" up woman. OMG!!! This coffee is the best coffee I have had. It is rich and smooth with nutty undertones. I added cream and sugar to mine. I was so bummed when they only had whole bean coffee to take home with me. I don't have a coffee grinder so I wasn't able to buy any. I would have loved to though, so perhaps that is something the business can look into. As I am not there always; I would have liked to take it home. I love rich coffee with bold flavors. Along with the coffee, I ordered the oatmeal. I was less impressed with the oatmeal. To be honest, it was a little bland, but not bad. The fruity flavor was refreshing; especially with the coffee.
