I came here with a group of friends for an evening hang out. We didn't know what to expect coming in here and probably left a bit more confused. Walking into the brew hall, we were immersed in medieval scenery with knight armor and weaponry positioned throughout brew hall. There was a really cool library with a wide assortment of books and some board games people could interact with. The vibes inside were very chill which was a huge plus. In terms of drinks, we were overwhelmed with how many options we could choose from and with how unique all of the flavors were. I decided to go with an 8 flight of beers as I couldn't narrow down a particular drink that caught my attention and thank goodness I went with that route. Out of the 8 beers I selected, I only truly liked 3 of the drinks. Some of the flavors I felt from the drinks that I didn't like reminded me of dish soap, sardines, and burnt wood (just to name a few). In terms of food, they had a food truck on site which had pretty good food and the overall staff were very nice. It's one of those places where I'm happy I came to experience the place, but isn't a top priority for me to make another visit. read more

Concept seemed cool and they have 27 beers in tap. Unfortunately, they various beers are not particularly great or outstanding. It is a medieval themed place so probably more fun to be at this setting at night or in winter when the fireplaces are lit. Cool library theme but the signs are kind of scolding to not touch the books. Wish there were at least pretzels or cheese curds to buy. Maybe there is, but the staff put me off so I, while normally chatty, am mot going to inquire about any potential food options hidden here. Wanted to like it more. read more

I travel to the Plymouth, MN area a few times a year for work and always try to find new breweries. This one was quite near to the office. I wound up going twice -- one late afternoon for a little reconnaissance and then the next day for a happy hour with colleagues. It's a really fun place. I should qualify that I'm a big gaming nerd myself. If for whatever reason you're lame and put off by that, the vibes of his place might bother you. But it's a chill place with a cool decor -- a suit of armor, book shelves, all sorts of stuff that evokes fantasy fiction and tabletop gaming. I tried a few beers over the two visits and they were quite good. The gentlemen behind the bar were a little gruff, but not overly unfriendly or anything. All in all, had a pleasant time on both visits and my colleagues seemed to enjoy it. My husband and I are on a mission to visit every brewery in Minnesota and this was #112 on our list. The decor of this place is amazing and they have a really great selection. The beertender was super friendly and knowledgeable about the different beers they had on tap. She explained the different types as well as recommended some blends to try for some really unique drinks. They offer up several flight options including a 4 sample, 8 sample or a 8 FULL size pint flight! We opted for the 4 sample for the really cool sword board it is served on! I was looking for something different and creative and found that under pressure offers art sessions on a Fridays and that's exactly what I wanted to do. Their drink list was pretty cool but I'm not a beer person. Glad that they had kombucha so sipped that as I painted. They do sell pretzel snacks but you are welcome to bring food though. The vibe and the decor is medieval; there were couple of knights there and love that you can come in for a drink and read. The vibe is pretty chilled. The medieval theme might throw you when you walk in, but a brewery with a library will win your heart over quickly. This is one of the most unique breweries I've visited and I've become a fan. Their beer selection is huge and their flights are even bigger. I've only been in the afternoon and have found that it's quiet with ample space. Can seem a little dark inside, but goes with the theme. Staff have always been friendly and have great recommendations. The last time I tried a summer brew called Stacked Blueberry Maple Stout and fell right in love with it. There's no food on site, but you can bring your own in or get it delivered. There are food trucks, trivia, and other fun things in the evening. Happy with this spot! read more

Ok, last brewery for me today. This makes my 282nd!! No, not today of course, that is my total. Under Pressure was pretty close to my hotel as I was headed back so I had to stop. It's quite the different vibe from the previous brewery I was at today. UP had a taco truck out front and since I hadn't eaten in over 12 hours, and I love tacos, I picked up a couple. Fabulous tacos but I can't recall the name of the truck. Actually in posting my photos I see I got the name of the truck in a photo, Tacopolis! UP is kind of dark and quiet. I felt like I was in the library in Dracula's castle or something. It's cool but has a very different vibe than most breweries. I like it! I got a flight of four and then added a fifth because, well, me. And because UP has 27 beers on tap! I started with Lick It Up peaches and cream ale which had a nice peach flavor. Next was, well, I kinda forgot. I was sitting at the bar tasting beers and working on this review when a friendly gent started talking to me. So instead of doing the review we talked beers with the bartender. I'll just say EVERYTHING I tried here was really good. A few highlights were the Irish red (SWPFTD would approve), the blueberry cream stout, the chocolate cream stout, and the rauchbier. Under Pressure is brewing up some excellent beers. Under pressure is tucked away in a strip mall, very unassuming, but then you walk in the doors and you are instantly teleported to a medieval themed space with a library. They even serve flights in a stainless steel sword and their tap list is endless. They even create their own mixes between the beers that they make. Had dinner reservations nearby and saw that this spot was on our Hop Passport. Stopped in and had a less than stellar experience. The taproom itself is "medieval themed" but felt dark and dingy, not in a good way. I did appreciate the commitment to the theme that included sword shaped flight holders. Plenty of tables available though. The only reason I didn't give them a one star score was the beer. Lots of variety in the offerings and stylings of beer. We ordered two flights, and while we didn't LOVE any of them, I've definitely had worse. The butterbeer was pretty great though! The worst part of the whole experience was the staff. It might go down as the worst service I've ever received at a brewery. The bartender, male with extra long beard, was visibly annoyed to be there, did NOT want me to ask any questions about the offering, was cold, and overall unfriendly. Not the kind of person that should be working in the service industry. We won't be returning and wouldn't recommend to friends. read more

I visited Under Pressure to discover a unique space in a non-assuming building. There are lots of comfy seats, tables that make you feel like a viking, and even a library! When I saw the flight options I was tempted to get the biggest one, but that would have been a feat for just myself. So I settled on the flight of 7 beers, took a seat at the bar, and prepared myself on picking out the beers from their very lengthy beer list.  Black IPA A roasty and bitter IPA that shines a deep black color. Medium low bitterness with low roasted coffee and dark cocoa. This beer was my favorite of the bunch. Rye or Rye Not A British Summer Session Ale with low smoke, smooth rye spiciness, and a hint of fig. California Common A style that you don't see very often, but I nearly always order. I got medium apple fruit, low bitterness, and low dough. The beer is slightly woodsy / rustic and went well with the vibe of the space. Extreme IPA An American IPA triple dry hopped to showcase the hops. It had  medium bitterness, medium-high pine and low citrus flavors. Not an overly fruity IPA, more of a West Coast which was a nice change of pace. Darkside of Demon Dog Dudley A deep dark Schwarzbier with dark malt and roast flavors that were about a medium, smooth, and medium-low bitterness. Not astringent at all even with all of the dark malt. Apple Ale The only fruited beer of the bunch in my flight. High apple flavors, low tartness and medium low acidity. Just enough tartness to pucker the palate, but not make you cringe like sucking on a lemon. Beerded Dragon Belgian Quad A traditional Belgian Quad. It had medium high caramel and medium-low butterscotch / molasses. A lot of complex malt character.  A fun space with a lot of beer options that made it hard to pick! read more

If you want to find some of Minnesota's coolest beer blends you've got to check out this brewery. This is the first time I have been to a brewery where they include a menu of beers that they have mixed to create new flavors. As a Harry Potter fan had to try the butter beer blendery. It was so delicious I could easily drink 5 more. We also did a 8-flight which was so unique compared to other places we've been. I noticed that throughout their menu, the description of their beers was clear and easy to understand. Many of the beers boast a 6-8% ABV with different variations of IBU. With 24+ beers (including the blends) there is something for everyone. The vibe within the brewery is medieval which gives it an edgy feel. I did feel that the brew staff was not very warm or inviting which was why I couldn't give a 5 star all around. I will definitely update my review after a couple more visits! read more

There aren't enough good things to say about Under Pressure Brewing. If you haven't tried it - You.Are.Missing.Out - definitely make time to stop in! It's definitely a hidden gem and the people there are fantastic! The atmosphere is a medieval theme - I read another review that noted it's like walking into Dracula's library which is a good description with the suits of armor, the book wall, etc.. There is a great selection of beer and beer BLENDS in addition to seasonal options. I HIGHLY recommend the White Chocolate Cranberry they have right now, the Black Forest is also a favorite of mine - so many options that are different than you'll find elsewhere. If you like dark/stouts, brown, light, IPA, red/amber, fruity, fancy, etc. there's something there for you to try. Get a flight - and note - you will want to keep trying the different flavors! They'll hold your card until you're done but that's more for their protection of the cool flight boards they have. They don't have a kitchen but they do have snacks for purchase and you can bring food in or they also have food trucks often. There is something quirky, unique, full of character, inviting and nerdy about this place. Stopped by with a couple buddies... needing to blow off some steam and Lori hooked us up. She was all the above, and funny, friendly and a great host. I enjoyed Lori's hand-selected flight of dark beers and my buddies enjoyed dark chocolate ipa's. We were all quite satisfied with the beer and the place was hopping... who knew that trivia night at the pub was such a draw? Well, it was. The only downgrade (5th star) was the lack of food. I'm told there is usually a food truck, but not on this particular night. This opened near where I live. I finally and spontaneously went with my roommates on Saint Patrick's Day weekend. Quite possibly a 5 star, but I'll need to go back and try moooorrree! They specialize in the dark stuff! I ordered the Irish Red and tried the other brews my party ordered. It was a beautiful deep ruby color, and it went down smooth. Overall very balanced. The decor is like a medieval library, plenty of tables, and warm wood. They had a food truck at the time, but you order at the area to the left of the bar. There are also board games and cards stacked on a shelf. We played Sequence! The only strange thing to me was that there was no music playing. Could make conversation awkward if there are too few people. I'm thinking Lord of the Rings soundtrack music? :D read more

Our friends love this place, and it sounded right up our nerdy alley, so we stopped in here near the end of the night. We were all super pleased with the beer selection, service, and dungeon-y ambiance. I got a flight of 8 minis (they also have a flight of 8 pints, served on a broadsword, see photo ), and I loved all of them, especially the apple ale (really appreciated that it was flavorful but not sweet) and the Belgian quad. My friend got one of their mixed drinks, half blueberry stout and half smoked beer, it was very good and unique! They also have trivia nights and eating contests. My wife and I came here on our weekly trip to new taprooms in the Twin Cities. We entered and there were no TVs at all, so we sat at the bar. I ordered an American IPA, which wasn't hoppy at all. The bartender said, "I don't like hops" They kept saying on their website that they won 43 BJCP sanctioned medals. Cool. I asked, "Do you know Steve Fletty, Kris England, Al Boyce?" I've been home-brewing since 1986, so kind of have a love for craft beer. I am always willing to try new brewries on the MPLS side, a shorter drive. There are few beer styles I don't appreciate, some I don't drink often... So given that intro, I have remained to be impressed with the offerings that Lori produces. She is very creative in her choices and execution. Does that mean I've liked all the beers I've tried... Certainly not, because few people like everything! But with trying a few tasters or flights and asking questions, you'll get there. The staff is becoming more versed in craft beer knowledge. Most of the unfavorable reviews seem to be from 2019, their first year. The vibe is more calm than a lot of taprooms. It's not a sports-bar by any measure. We stopped here while on a road trip. Our road trip was to visit different breweries and baseball fields throughout the Midwest (driving from Houston). This was the one stop we were choosing the night we got in because it was late. The staff members were rude and pompous "I have better things to do then answer your silly questions" type attitude. With the huge influx of local breweries it's hard to count on quality but this place never disappoints. The brewmaster Lori is extremely well versed in her art and a lovely hostess as well. The ambience is rich with the combination of high/low ceilings, cozy chairs and tables and a medieval feel with the fireplace, bookcases, and conversation-inspiring art pieces. Every beer here had the same awful after taste. They really taste like they were all made in the same barrel. The metal head behind the bar had no energy and seemed annoyed to help while the two older workers (possibly his parents were nice). The ambiance was similar to the Hennepin library down the street but honestly I would recommend going to the library. This place was rough.
