I've had this shop on my list for a while and I'm so glad that I finally took the time to try! The line was out the door when I arrived but didn't have to wait too long. Unfortunately there wasn't much seating and, although I stayed to eat my sandwhich and enjoy my coffee, I didn't end up staying here long (I originally hoped I'd be able to work here for a bit, but it's not that kind of spot). I got the supreme breakfast croissant sandwhich and an iced lucky charms latte. The croissant sandwhich was delicious (I don't know what the sauce was but *chef's kiss*) and the latte was fine, it tasted like a pretty standard vanilla latte with maybe a hint of the marshmallow promise toward the end. However, I will say I really had my eye on a tea latte and then changed my mine. I'm def planning on coming again to try one of the tea lattes and enjoy even more of their food! read more

Unfortunately updating my review for this place. I was so excited to come back but my salad (named "east chop") was not how it was the first time. It was mostly cabbage filled, which last time I got it it was more of a garnish. Didn't come with any cilantro. I was given two different dressings when i ordered extra dressing, but the staff was very nice and noticed the mistake too. Although, the person I was with said the thanksgiving melt was the best sandwich they've ever had. I now have to get up and move my car at 7:00am for the sanitation rehabilitation workers. So instead of grumbling I decided to go to a different coffee joint. That's not totally true as I am still grumbling, but today I'm going to Undergrind. Next door to Undergrind is the Barbara Mendes Gallery. At the Undergrind, they tempted me with a gluten free dairy free but not taste free Matcha Vanilla donut to go with my Salted Caramel, Vanilla Bean & espresso latte. WOW! I completely loved this place! I love checking out new cafes and a friend recommended this spot and I'm so glad I checked it out! The decor is super cute and a such a vibe and the menu is so unique with tons of cool drinks. I I got the green dragon latte and it was SO GOOD and different from any drink I've ever had. Cute little hole in the wall next to a very colorful building. Parking was pretty easy, I found something in the neighborhood. I ordered their all American Breakfast Burrito because it looks so good on Yelp. I'm so happy I got it. It really hit the spot. The potato's were so warm and the cheese was so gooey. I usually save my breakfast burritos for two meals but this was honestly too good, I finished in one sitting. Pretty good price too only $8.50! Staff was also really friendly too! This little cafe was wonderful, my boyfriend and I stopped by for a quick latte and bite to eat with very little expectation but both the food we ordered and coffee exceeded our expectations. Coffee was delicious! Happy to make a little trip to support a black-owned business and I got delicious coffee to add on to that! You can order inside and then wait for your coffee outside if you'd like. They have a speaker outside to call out orders as well. There is ample parking around the front or the side streets. We ordered the Tiger Island Latte which had the strong notes of chocolate (of course) but it was very decadent. When you come into Undergrind you don't get the impression that it's some legendary LA cafe that has been pushed into mainstream media for its innovative and fancy products. It's a good and cute local cafe that serves the people of the neighborhood with necessities: coffee and small bites. Walked in and was immediately greeted by staff. Staff was super friendly and would give them a 20/10. They gave me coffee recommendations and I got the cinnamon toast crunch latte. It's good but a little on the sweet side IMO. I take a star off because the amount of avocado on the avocado toast was so little. Granted, I did order it without egg but the toast was basically just bread and arugula. Would not get the avocado toast again. When I got here, there was a line to the door. The place itself is relatively small so it can get crowded pretty quickly. I ordered the break of day burrito with no cheese and the purple rain latte. The burrito was huge and I couldn't finish it and the purple rain latte was different but good. The staff was friendly and worked quickly to get everyone their orders. This amazing Black Owned cafe was delicious . They are practicing social distancing and adhering to Covid protocols. We were asked to wait outside until they called our name to pick up order. They have a few tables for outside seating. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Aaron was great as this was my first time and he guided us through the menu. My Dutch mocha with oat milk was delicious. My son had a fancy tiger latte. I had a turkey and egg croissant which was awesome! I ate it all. My son had shrimp and grits and it was filling and good. My hubby and I decided to check this place instead of CoFax in Culver City for a breakfast burrito. I ordered an American Burrito which has bacon, sausage and chorizo along with hash browns, eggs and cheddar cheese. When I cut it in half, the first thing I said out loud, "where's the meat" and "cheese"? The bacon looks like bacon bits. I expected small cubes of sausages..but didn't find any. Frankly, it was a burrito with hash browns and scrambled eggs. I didn't even taste the cheddar cheese. The green salsa was good. The staff and ambiance was really nice. This order was for take out due to the pandemic still going. We placed a phone order and drove by to pick it up. Our order was ready on time and packaged so well that by the time we arrived home, our burritos were still hot.. yes hot and not warm... they were also not mushy thanks to their well done wrapping. They use foil as well as a different paper in between to absorb the steam. Ugh, thank you sooo much for making sure my burritos aren't a wet mush. We ordered their Bollywood burrito with chicken, a Break of Day burrito with sausage and their Grinch drink. Their Bollywood burrito was bursting with ingredients, the burrito was good but it was better with the green sauce they provided. Their Break of Day burrito had eggs, cheese, juicy sausage, it was solid . Both tortillas were soft and not dry, kudos! Their Grinch drink was mind blowing. It was a warm day therefore we decided to order it cold and ugh, it was perfect! It tasted just like mint chocolate chip ice cream BUT with some matcha in it. It was two of my favorite things together in one drink. I will probably be dreaming about this on the next hot day. I've decided to give this good establishment 5 stars based solely on a quick visit. I randomly found them when I was driving down Robertson and remembered that I had bookmarked them on Yelp so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to give them a try. I parked right in front of the cafe and I ordered the shrimp and grits through their website because there were about ten people in line outside - The peasantry! The ordering process was super easy and I was notified that my food was ready about twelve minutes later. I walked in, picked up my food, and requested some salsa because they didn't have hot sauce. The staff seemed focused yet frenzied but still super pleasant. When I took the lid off of the shrimp and grits bowl, I was a little sad because there was so much liquid that it appeared to be more of a red shrimp stew with some grits somewhere on the bottom. I thought I'd just take a few bites of it and set it aside for later. That didn't happen. I COULD NOT stop eating it! It was so delicious. There were a lot of shrimp and a good portion of grits beneath the surface. The seasonings were spot on and the flavors just melted together perfectly. You can also add veggies, eggs, and avocado if you would like. It is in my top 3 for shrimp and grits to be found in Los Angeles and it is NUMBER 1 on price point. COVID-19 takeout experience: Support your local Black-owned businesses! All employees were wearing masks and only a couple of people are allowed inside at a time. If you order at the counter, you wait outside and they call your name over the speaker. I've actually come here twice in a week. I called in my lunch order around 11:50am on Thursday and it was ready for pick up in 25 mins. There's plenty of free street parking along Gibson St. I got the shrimp and grits and it was super flavorful and the perfect portion size. I don't eat grits very often, but these were cheesy and delicious. On Sunday, I went right around 8am when it opened to place my order in person and they were already pretty busy. I found this place on a whim because I searched "black-owned bakery" in the yelp search. It happened to be 3 minutes from where I was in traffic. I drive by here when taking my daughter to school and never noticed it. Excellent customer service. It was my first time there and the young lady didn't shy away from giving recommendations. I ended up going with the Bayou Burrito, which is made is shrimp, bell peppers and onions, along with the standard egg and potatoes. I was in a greedy mood so I had turkey bacon added to mine. Came across this shop when my usual westside coffee place was closed and ordered the special peach matcha latte (hot) and the breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was delicious and the drink was one of the most amazing matcha lattes I've had (and I drink a lot of tea)! It was very strongly matcha but sweetened with peaches so it was pack full of flavor. I was so sad when I finished my cup. The shop was cute inside with some seating. Service was friendly! Very impressed with the veg-out burrito. Better than most breakfast burritos I've had. They add in an extra couple of ingredients to make the flavors more complex than a standard breakfast burrito and the side salsa is also excellent and goes great with it. This was such a cute and eclectic coffee shop! I ordered the caramel latte iced and it did not disappoint. The coffee was really good. I got there early because I needed ample time to park, walk to the shop, and stand in line. It was only a few people ahead of me, so my wait was short. I ordered the shrimp and grits. It was good. It was different from the shrimp and grits we have here in the southern states. Our shrimp & grits are on the "thicker" side and this was almost soup like. I'm so glad our Yelp commumity put together a list of Black-owned businesses because that's where I found Undergrind Cafe! I tell my kids, "Let's go to the pink coffee shop," and they know I'm referring to this place. We now stop by weekly to pick up food and drinks after a morning at the park. I've had their Tiger Island Latte (chocolate, coconut and chai), Filthy Chai Latte (espresso and chai), Vanilla Latte, and Purple Rain Latte (lavender tea and vanilla). They are all very good! I'm not even a chai type of person but I might be into it now. I've had the GOAT (avocado toast) multiple times and this one is my favorite. Sweet, savory, and mildly spicy all at the same time! I'm not a strict vegetarian but I do avoid meat so I'm glad they have these options. In terms of vegetarian menus, I've also enjoyed their breakfast burrito w/soyrizo and morning melt. The takeout food comes in minimal plastic (awesome!) and there is usually easy close parking off of one of the side streets or in front of the cafe on Robertson. read more
