The owner reached out to me and although it took me some time to return, I made good on my redo from previous visits. She had a huge concern for the customer and I don't want to come off as a horrible human being, just report what we felt and the reasons. A cool and cute coffee shop pumping out an assortment of food and drinks, Undergrind Cafe was a great breakfast spot to check out! The Chai latte was excellent! Had the perfect flavor balance where you got that punch of chai and slight milkiness from the latte. I'm not a huge fan of grits but we also got that and since it was heavily seasoned, it gave it a good flavor and wasn't bland (which is always my concern with grits). The Sweet Cream Pancakes are soooo gooooodddd! You can eat them alone without any syrup. That's how good and flavorful they were. Absolutely a must get! The break of day burrito was also really solid. It's fully loaded and very filling. I ordered it with bacon and they definitely are generous with the meat portion. Whew! Excuse me...I just had a very hearty breakfast/brunch and I'm stuffed! Will not be able to finish until much later. So, I ordered my brunch from this place and the delivery took no time. My food was hot and freshly prepared. I ordered the pancakes, the side of turkey bacon, shrimp and grits, hashbrowns and the chocolate iced blended with a shot of espresso and oatmilk. Pancakes are filling and very fluffy. I couldn't even finish one! My turkey bacon could have been crisper. Hashbrowns were good. Shrimp and grits were very savory and delicious. This is my first time at Undergrind Cafe. I do not live in the area, but had always great things about the coffee here. I was finally in town visiting a friend and decided to try. I ordered a blended drink that was unfortunately over blended. I had expressed to my friend that I enjoyed my drink, but it just wasn't blended right. I ordered a chai latte with oat milk and it was one of the better chai lattes I've had. It tasted real vs the ones that just taste like flavored syrups. I also ordered the sweet cream pancakes and usually I don't order pancakes but the title intrigued me. They were amazing. Sweet but not too sweet, I wish I had the recipe to eat them every week. Positives first, the restaurant is mega cute outside and inside. The staff is friendly and engaging. They have an outdoor seating area which is appreciated, although the traffic noise on Robertson is a pain in the butt. Also, the prices are quite reasonable. That's rare these days... The negatives really focus on the food. First, the sausage and gravy was good, but the problem was the biscuits were much too soft... Almost tasted like cake. Those biscuits need to be firm and crunchy. A bigger disappointment was the classic All-American burrito, the burrito was lacking in cheese and the meat inside was minced so fine that it was barely noticeable. A breakfast burrito needs to be packed full of cheese that is ooey gooey and meat chunks that I can taste. Also a little bit of grease can help with the dryness. read more

I ordered the veggies and grits, it comes with an egg and wow it was so fresh filling and delicious. The portion was large enough that I had the rest for lunch. We got the green dragon latte, lucky charms latte, cobb salad, and the cali sandwich and it was the perfect combo. The cobb salad had these delicious parmasean crisps that I would choose over bleu cheese crumbs any day with crispy bacon bits that added the perfect crunch factor to the salad. The cali sandwich was nice and toasted and the turkey and bacon went well together. The drinks were creative and perfectly sweet! The employees were also very friendly! My only complaint is that the place is a little small, but there's tables outside to sit which was perfect for the nice weather. Came here for a late weekend lunch and overall it was an underwhelming experience. The menu items seemed great, with some variety and exciting flavors but everything we got just fell short in some way and nothing really stood out. Parking was surprisingly easy with street-metered parking and some nearby spots in the residential streets nearby. We got the Bayou Burrito, French Lover, Spanish Lover Burrito, Emerald City, and Cold Brew. Both burritos were decently sized and even though the menu says burritos come with a side of salsa, only 1 container of mild chunky green salsa was provided for 2 burritos. We asked for another and they gladly provided more but there were no utensils provided in the bag for the French Lover toasts. In terms of flavor, Bayou has a bit more, and Spanish Lover felt like a green rice burrito with not much other fillings. The Bayou had a good amount of shrimp but the sausage amount was lacking. If I came again for the burritos, I would definitely bring my own hot sauce or something. The French Lover was interesting, berries didn't look the freshest and the presentation was a bit sad. The bread pudding aspect was good but it could have been creamier or sweeter, honestly, it was not something I would come back for and I really wonder if we just had a flop because the French toast was really disappointing. I got the Emerald City and asked for less sweet and less ice and even though it was noted, I got a cup that was 80% filled with ice and it was pretty sweet so I'm thinking maybe we just came at a busy time. I tried the Cold Brew and it gave the needed caffeine hit but it didn't taste like anything special, and I seriously wondered if it would've been better to go elsewhere for cold brew. I think the prices here are definitely a plus but in terms of flavor and just overall quality, it could be improved. read more

Undergrind Cafe is a great coffee shop and breakfast place in the area. The drinks and food are solid! My favorite drink to order is the Vanilla Bean Latte (1/2) powder and Veggie Grits. Usually, I am not a fan of grits, but the Veggie grits is my favorite order here. If you're in a time crunch, I recommend calling your food order ahead of time. Whenever I call in my grits, it's usually a 15 minute wait time. Parking around this area is hard to find. Either residential parking or metered parking. Unfortunately, there is only one cash register, so if you're in a rush in the AM, be prepared to wait in line. If you come in on the weekday in the early AM, expect a long wait especially since it attracts a lot of students from the nearby high school. read more

I've been going here consistently for about three years now and they've improved a lot over the years but I still have my gripes. It's absolutely kills me when a coffee shop says they can't make a cortado because it's literally 2oz milk and 2oz espresso. Undergrind thrives on its sugary little frou frou drinks but some of us just want a normal drink that doesn't taste like lucky charms! I end up going here for food more than drinks at this point. It was mostly cabbage filled, which last time I got it it was more of a garnish. Didn't come with any cilantro. I was given two different dressings when i ordered extra dressing, but the staff was very nice and noticed the mistake too. Although, the person I was with said the thanksgiving melt was the best sandwich they've ever had. I've had this shop on my list for a while and I'm so glad that I finally took the time to try! The line was out the door when I arrived but didn't have to wait too long. Unfortunately there wasn't much seating and, although I stayed to eat my sandwhich and enjoy my coffee, I didn't end up staying here long (I originally hoped I'd be able to work here for a bit, but it's not that kind of spot). I got the supreme breakfast croissant sandwhich and an iced lucky charms latte. The croissant sandwhich was delicious (I don't know what the sauce was but *chef's kiss*) and the latte was fine, it tasted like a pretty standard vanilla latte with maybe a hint of the marshmallow promise toward the end. At the Undergrind, they tempted me with a gluten free dairy free but not taste free Matcha Vanilla donut to go with my Salted Caramel, Vanilla Bean & espresso latte. My first matcha donut was not too dense and tasty, as was the delicious Salted Caramel Latte. As they say at Undergrind, friends don't let friends drink Starbucks. read more
