9/6 -- This is awesome! Found them on yelp when I was looking for a match tea latte. And DAMN! This place hit the G spot! It also helped while I waited for my food that they had the soundtrack of my life going with a range of Prince to NSync. I got the Green Dragon latte and it did not disappoint at all. I was craving another one later that afternoon. Its so amazing I returned the next day! The food is so good! I tried the Break of Day burrito the first time and the All American burrito the second for breakfast. It was very satisfying! They are massive burritos so you can have them for two meals if you want. Excellent selection of breakfast items! 10/2 -- Tried the shrimp and grits. It hit the spot for my Cajun food cravings. I was in the area, and had very limited time to grab a bite. I took a quick look at the food and reviews, and I was sold. My guy and I got the breakfast burritos, and they were AMAZING!! It was a very good size for the price, and they did not skimp out on anything. I also saw their coffee menu, and I think I'll be back for that next time. The cute pink lid and sleeve are selling me haha. Service was so friendly even though they were slammed. They don't have very many seats inside, but it's a nice place to sit down outside, and enjoy some LA sunshine. read more

This place has really gone down the tubes for so many reasons. The employees don't seem to care when they ruin the meal and management apologizes and offers gift cards that never arrive. The sandwich was supposed to come on Ciabatta (twice) but was delivered on a tasteless roll instead. Plus the food that was supposed to be hot sat in the back for 40 minutes unbeknownst the employee until I finally asked for it in desperation. We really liked this place because it's in our neighborhood and was great on every way (especially the 20% discount for medical workers) but we're going to have to find someplace else because they just don't cut it anymore. i just tried it and immediately had to review, i loved it. enzo was the sweetest barista i've ever met, i think i'd come back for him alone. their pink hair matches the pink cups and details all around the cafe. the food has a little kick, definitely flavorful with international flavors... think cajun, indian, korean! it's black owned and i just felt good spending money here. it's three minutes from my house so i will definitely be back. it took me a few years but finally found my favorite and go to coffee spot in LA. plus, the large size upgrade on drinks is only fifty cents!! in this economy!!! read more

Brunching in LA doesn't necessarily need to rip a new one into your wallet. In fact, Undergrind Cafe is one of those perfect little spots where you can enjoy a quick brew or go all out and order one of their amazing, affordable dishes. Right before we headed off to a wedding, we stopped by here to grab a bite. No need for mimosas here- that was going to wait until later. For now, my eyes set on the great selection of food options they had available. The restaurant itself is fairly small. You order at the counter, grab a number, and find a spot. There are primarily high tables inside with one large picnic table that could fit 6-8 people near the back. You can also go to the front of the restaurant where two little outdoor tables make for decent people watching. Have somebody inside because they call out orders randomly. My friend and I split some amazing dishes: - Seafood Gumbo ($10) was delicious! They were very generous with the amount of shrimp and sausage inside its delectable, stewy base. There was a perfect amount of rice soaking on the bottom and the entire dish could definitely feed more than one person. An absolute must in my book. - Breakfast Bite W/ Maple Bacon ($6) - BOMB croissant sandwich and quite possible one of the best breakfast dishes I've had in a while. Egg was fluffy, bacon was crispy, and the croissant was oh so flaky and buttery. - Miss Piggy Melt ($8) was a hearty, meaty sandwich that was pressed to perfection. Loaded with cheddar cheese on whole grain toast, this sandwich really impressed us. While we didn't order any morning beverages, we could tell they were also a popular option with folks moving in and out of the restaurant. They cranked them out quickly so if you're in a rush and just want a coffee, you won't have to wait too long. Went here for breakfast Saturday morning. It is a really cute and neighborhood cafe vibe. You can tell people come regularly and are known by the staff. They have a ton of fun items on the menu that look really good. I had the Mexican burrito. It was fine but lacked flavor or any spice. Got confirmation from restaurant that morning and confirmation from grubhub that driver was on site at 835 (we can see it on the app. Driver car still at the restaurant at 845, 9, 915. Finally call the restaurant. Asked about my order. 10 mins on hold then she comes back and asks again about the order. I asked why so delayed? Now the frustrating part. She tries to blame the poor grubhub driver. First she said that no driver was waiting. Next she said someone else picked up the order, and then the order reappeared in the que. I had been texting with the driver since 845 and saw his vehicle at their restaurant at 835 on the map. Finally it's we are restarting your order. They said they can't refund. After I complained she offered me a coffee. I didn't want that. I had a $45 order so it wasn't just a bagel. She then said they can cancel. All I needed to hear was we messed up and sorry. Don't blame the grubhub person trying to work and make a living. Really poor form. Bad customer service. Blaming others. Really love the uniqueness this establishment offers with their menu. I personally fell in love with this place because of their unique coffee drinks like the "Cherry Bomb". I have only been inside this shop one time to pick-up an order because I usually get it delivered; but, even at my short stop, I saw how cute and friendly all the decor is! The only critique I have is that the food's flavor is slightly lacking. I have had a few of their food items and think that some adjustments to the way their packaged, might actually improve certain meals from tasting "soggy". I still rate this place 5 stars even though my food hasn't been the best because I've only had food delivered so I'm not sure if maybe ordering/eating it fresh would make a difference in the quality. Truly, I think if items for "pick-up" or delivery were better packaged, there wouldn't even be an issue with the flavor. Plus, their specialty drinks do really make-up for it! I discovered this place on Instagram when someone made a Black Owned coffee shop list. I had walked by the place plenty of times and never knew it was Black owned. I order from here atleast once a week! I have had the shrimp and grits (although the first time it was delivered it was in a big container almost two portions which I found out on my next order it must have been a mistake that time cause my next was in half the size ‍) but nonetheless still worth it and good. Finally made my way over to the Undergrind cafe for something else besides coffee. I've only been in once and I think I ordered a latte and it was good! Today I ordered steel cut oats and they were jammin'! I think they were like $6 for a good portion - I left feeling full and like I had made a good choice for breakfast! I also ordered a cappuccino with almond milk and thAt was just okay bc I did not get the caffeine jolt that I was looking for and it tasted very watered down. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp and grits and we thought they were tasty and very well made. He also ordered the purple rain latte and he love love loved it! It was a bit difficult to find a place to sit only because I have an infant in a car seat but we found a big communal table hidden away in the back and a high chair! Perfection! There was a bit of a line to wait in - which I see every time I pass by and that is great to see and not so bad to wait in. It's worth the wait! Was visiting LA and needed a nearby coffee shop to go to. I really like the concept of this place, I'm a big fan of female owned establishments. I do wish that their online ordering was a bit more comprehensive or easy to understand. I ordered a peanut butter latte iced and when I got there it was blended. I mentioned it to the barista and she said that it only comes blended because of the way that the ingredients are. I'm fine with that but it would've been nice to know before I ordered because I would've ordered something else. My friends really enjoyed their lattes I actually ended up coming back here the next day to get coffee as well and my vanilla latte was really good. I think that the workers could be a bit friendlier. The place was really busy when I went in but it seemed that they were a bit annoyed with me standing there waiting for my items. I also had ordered food at one point with my drink and when I told her that she hadn't given it to me yet she seemed very unhappy that I mentioned it. This place is great! Great staff, great food, good prices, nice play list! The people who work here are really nice and both times I have been here it has been pleasant! They are very personable and the food comes out quick. The food is really good! The breakfast sandwiches are perfect and the pancakes are good. There are about 10 other things on the menu I can't wait to try. The prices are decent and for the quality its a great deal! The real winner is the Vanilla latte, its so creamy and delicious!!! I like the decor in the place, its cool yet comfortable, yet not so comfortable for hipsters to layabout taking up space all day. I checked out this local spot up the street from Hamilton High School when the booster club was kind enough to gift teachers with a gift card. Definitely returning soon! First off, this is a Black owned business. Second, they are cool enough to give teachers a whopping 25% discount. Thank you Undergrind!! I had one of the best Filthy Chai teas I've ever had here. I got my friend hooked with one sip. I had the Mr. Philly sandwich which was ok. I'm going breakfast next time. My friend had the veggies and grits which she LOVED. There a few tables to eat outside on the sidewalk but it looks like most is take way. Service was great with a very sweet young man behind the counter. Fast considering how busy they were. This business also supports local artists and there are quite a few fun eclectic things for sale. PARKING: There's some parking on the main street, and more on the side streets. Quite easy to find parking. DRINKS: There are so many great options. My friends and I loved all the drinks that we got - [1] Tiger Island (chocolate, coconut, chai & espresso latte) with whole milk: delicious, not too sweet, you can really feel the espresso [2] Green Dragon (matcha, vanilla bean tea latte) with whole milk: clean flavor, can really taste the matcha [3] Emerald something (Green Dragon + pistachio) with whole milk: nice and light, not too sweet and gives off of a spring bounce vibe FOOD: We got the Break of Day Burrito (scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, fresh jalapenos, sharp cheddar, green onion served with a side of salsa). Such a cute little cafe! Reasonably priced and portions are just right. Their coconut chai latter is delicious! Ordered their standard breakfast with 2 eggs, bacons and toast. Also ordered a sausage and egg breakfast sandwich. They both were standard breakfast items and on the light side which I appreciated. Will definitely be back.
