This is a great place to get breakfast, coffee, and catch up with friends. They have a large wooden table in the back area that is fit for queens. I came here with two gal pals on a Sat morning at 8:30am. We scored the table and had a wonderful time sipping coffee, the free water, and our breakfast burritos. The only thing I didn't like about the veggie burrito was the pickled onions inside. Other than that, I'd order it again. The nasty chai was the best dirty chai I've had:) There's street parking around the bend, outdoor seating for your furry friends, and reasonably priced drinks and food. I've been going to Undergrind for years because of its perfect blend of comfort food and coffee. I've tried several items on the menu and you simply cannot go wrong with any of them. However my favorites are: -Shrimp n Grits: ooey gooey goodness in a bowl -Avocado Toast w/ goat cheese I mean holy hell. Def not your basic betch avo toast -Literally any of their breakfast burritos As for coffee, definitely recommend the Tiger Island which is a mocha latte with chai and coconut. I love this place but really wish they would aim for some sort of sustainable practices. There's no place for single- use everything at a nice cafe in West LA in 2022. It's just lazy. I told them I was eating there and they put all my food in takeout containers and put it in a plastic bag for my 10 foot walk out to the tables outside! Why would you give me a plastic bag!!?? Put it on a plate or a tray or just hand it to me! It's also virtually impossible to eat any of their delicious food with those plastic utensils. This coffee shop is a staple of this strip of Robertson and since I live a couple blocks away, I've been eating here very intermittently for almost a decade now. Every single time I've eaten here over those ~7/8 years, my order has been severely delayed. Like an hour+ delayed. No matter how large or small the order is, no matter how busy or empty the shop is, it will always take about an hour longer than I expect. Preordering does not help. The service in response to these delays is hit or miss -- sometimes they're nice about it, sometimes they're rude. Today I tried going back for the first time since a bad experience I had during the height of the pandemic, hoping maybe their service had improved by now but to my dismay I ran into the same exact issue. They were nice about it but unfortunately the food, while pretty good, is definitely not worth this kind of wait/unpredictability. I'm also not a big fan of their coffee and definitely stay away from the matcha if you, like me, don't like those fake/super sweet premixed matcha powders. I'm glad they have such a strong fan base but this place is not for me. read more

I've ordered 2 times so far during COVID-19, once for takeout and once for delivery (via Postmates), and it has not disappointed at all! In terms of food, I've had their All American Burrito and Marchella Sandwich. The burrito was HUGE and stuffed - it was absolutely delicious. You cannot go wrong with this one. The sandwich was also made so well. The pesto & honey balsamic was so tasty along with the fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and arugula = delicious. I highly recommend both. I usually can't eat too much, but I literally devoured the sandwich and more than 3/4s the burrito. In terms of drinks, I've had the Dutch Latte and Vanilla Bean Latte. They both were spot on!! I love the balance of the sweetness from the Dutch & vanilla bean and then the espresso. Definitely recommend both. Overall, I'm a huge fan and will continue on coming! My husband and I stopped by at 10:15am on a Sunday. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the Bayou burrito. To drink, we ordered the salted caramel latte (iced) and blended peanut butter latte w/oat milk. The drinks were delicious! We waited about 30 limited for our food but it was well worth it! The shrimp and grits was delicious, well seasoned. The Bayou burrito was also good, although we wished it had a little more of a Cajun kick. Cute coffee shop near very busy street, on a Sunday morning at 9:00AM somehow we found street parking right in front of the store. It's VERY cute with colors that make you feel warm and cozy and you feel immediately at home. I asked the very friendly barista if they had vanilla syrup to which she said no, that they used a powder which was still good in her opinion. I asked for a latte to be made half-sweet with the powder and it still turned out painfully sweet, I figured it was my fault knowing I should have asked for just plain latte. I went back inside the store to have it remade, and a new woman behind the counter she said "so you want it 1/4 sweet instead?" but with foul attitude like I was asking her to mop my floors at home. The original barista who took my order came out from behind her and said she forgot to write 1/2 sweet and that it was her fault. I'm not even bothered by the fact that the order was wrong, & normally I don't care how service workers talk to me (because I know how people on the opposite side can be terrible,) but I feel like I asked nicely and didn't deserve to be talked to that way...when I  was the one who didn't mess up. Moving on, my boyfriend ordered an Americano that was WEAK. He'll eat and drink anything so when he complains I know it's bad. I know the water comes out of a spout they cant control the temp on, but it was way too hot to consume and I ended up burning my mouth. We last came here in June and this very popular place was mobbed and chaotic. There was a long line, but I had ordered online and I didn't want to cut to go inside and get my order and the whole thing was just stressful. So when my daughter asked to go here this morning, I was anxious and expecting a repeat of that experience. I can't tell you how impressed I was with the changes since our last visit! They have more tables out front, and what's more, they have a loud speaker now so that you know when your food/drink is ready! I had ordered online again and when I went in, it was very well organized. My food was ready and the drink immediately after. The staff was super friendly. Here's a tip if you order online - use Postmates. The Undergrind website links to GrubHub, and the full menu is not there. Really nice staff and great coffee! Got an iced oat milk latte in a small and it was about $4-5, personally I believe that's a great price. The guy who took my order was super friendly and made great conversation. I really like their espresso by the way, I felt that the espresso was more nuttier and flavorful compared to a lot of coffee shops around LA. I love supporting this small POC owned business and watching them thrive. It's fairly busy on any given day here, but line moves quickly especially during peak breakfast and on the weekends. You don't expect such a small shop to offer such a full kitchen menu. The Vanilla latte uses vanilla bean powder which is unique to other cafes and honestly if you love anything vanilla bean (ice cream) you'll love the flavor of this. It's definitely on the sweeter side. Solid breakfast burritos as well that come with salsa (my only thing here is pls make the salsas spicier!) and plenty of options of burritos as well as veggie options! Portions are also fairly big so if you're not super hungry i'd split a burrito with a friend and get some coffee. They have some patio seating out front and i can always count on spotting some cute dogs here too. read more

Ok this place is popping!!! I stopped by today to grab some breakfast and the line was just nonstop. Parking in the immediate vicinity is metered, but finding parking at most 5-10 minute walk away in the neighborhood shouldn't too hard so just a heads up. I came here on a holiday so thankfully I was able to park at the meters for free. I ordered an Americano and the Break of Day burrito. The coffee was normal, nothing special, came out super quickly though! - so definitely a plus if you're in a hurry. I would say the burrito took about 15 minutes to be prepared, so if you are in a hurry, I would suggest ordering online - there were plenty of people coming in and picking up orders as I waited and it seems like it's a pretty good system if you're not willing to wait in store. The employees here are also so friendly! I'm trying to start trying out more coffee shops or cafes around my area and I think these were the nicest ones so far! I'd honestly come back just because they were so nice. As for the burrito, I would say it didn't exactly hit the spot for me personally - they were out of salsa and usually I wouldn't say I neeeeeed salsa on my breakfast burritos but after getting home and eating this burrito I sort of regretted not waiting for the salsa, haha. The Break of Day burrito is just super cheesy, almost overwhelmingly so, and the salsa would have really provide a nice balance to the cheese. I definitely want to give it another shot, this time with salsa, but for now I can't really overwhelmingly recommend the burrito since it was a bit one-dimensional flavorwise - the cheese really does overpower everything else in the burrito - eggs, hashbrowns and sausage, so I was really looking for some more excitement. read more

Brought in the by the name, made loyal by the java. Despite it's rundown appearance, this little coffee shop leaves nothing to be desired where it counts. I can't speak for the food portion of the menu- though I hear it's full of amazing things- but the specialty latte menu, dubbed 'I Dream of Lattes,' is one of my favorites, thus far. And I drink a lot of coffee. With names like the Filthy Chai, Tiger Island, and the Peanut Butter Cup Latte, you know a sugar-high of sheer indulgence is just around the corner. The Tiger Island, which is made with chocolate, coconut, Chai, & espresso is one of the sweetest on the menu, but it's just shy of being too sweet and packs a delicious balance of each flavor. It's best to get it iced and let the ice water it down a little. It's definitely a sipper's dream latte. The coffee itself is legit, and you'll want to stop by more than once to try those other delectable flavors on the menu as soon as humanly-possible.
