A++++ This is a belated review, but Tea and his team did unbelievable work on my mom's 50+ year old pool. It took them days longer than they thought to do all of the work, but they stayed true to their initial estimate. They fixed expansion joints, removed old Mastic around the pool, cut new expansion joints and filled them, patched some leaks, and added backer rods The work is perfect (including finding tiles that matched the 50+ year old tiles). From the start he did an excellent job communicating and managing our expectations, and his pricing is fair. Underwater is not the least expensive, but we weren't looking for the cheapest solution, we wanted a contra for that would do good work and stand behind it. It's clear Tea knows his business extremely well, is talented at what he does and he takes pride in his work. His professionalism is second to none. He returned on a Saturday to take care of a things that could've waited until the following week, and he explained what caused our pools challenges as well as what he did to resolve the issues. Texted Tea and Underwater Pool MD after some lights in my pool and jacuzzi failed. He had by far the most competitive prices in the area and on top of that he was highly recommended by my pool servicer. I had some concerns about draining the pool and jacuzzi to access the light fixtures, but much to my surprise Tea used a diver to do the work without having to adjust the water level at all. Amazing. The guys were in and out super fast and got my pool up and running in about an hour and half beginning to end. Our pool was hemorrhaging water and the company that we had hired to find the leak in the first place was so backlogged they could not get anyone out to dive the pool for a month! They referred me to Tea and luckily we were able to schedule it that day. I explained how much water we were losing per day and he agreed it was urgent and fit us in. We were in the middle of dealing with a family illness and the pool leak was just adding so much more stress. He came out and explained EVERYTHING in relation to the particular leak we had. Pool Doctor in the House! I never thought that I would actually write a review about a contractor without meeting him! His name is Tea & his fame is Underwater Pool MD. He solved the problem on the phone without coming here & free of charge! This guy is so booked, busy & so popular that he rather gives you tons of free advice & information to solve your own problem rather than come to your house & unnecessarily charge you for something which is not even needed to be fixed! That should tell you something about his integrity, ethics & honesty! This guy is very funny, lively & a great communicator. I like his sense of humor because I also have a great sense of humor & am very politically incorrect. Have in mind that I have been my own pool man for 4 years. No one ever taught me anything but myself on YouTube & Net. I screwed up for so long & finally I have become an expert in Pool Science! The Problem 1 of my entry water pipes were bubbling & had no pressure. Around the pipe, the plaster grew a few lumps. I put 2 & 2 together & assumed broken pipe. It did not occur to me that this could be a simple air or blockage in the system, because I had just cleaned the filters and maintained the system! I thought maybe lumps are because of broken pipe & leakage behind the plaster wall. The Solution I called Tea. Picture that we are both politically incorrect with big sense of humor & we never met! This is how the conversation went: X: Hey you're busy doing underwater acrobatics in people's pool? T: Hey I have to play somewhere, why not here? X: Hey I read a lot of good things about you! T: Hey don't believe everything you read on social media, lots of it is Bull Shiite! So, it went on like that ... We continued shooting Shiite and cracking up! I told him the problem. He asked me if I lose any water & I told him no. He told me make sure there's no air in the system because this doesn't sound like a broken pipe. The long story short, he gave me a bunch of info about the bucket test (losing water), plaster lumps, pump, etc. He took time between his aqua acrobatics to chat with me. I went & took the air out of system, unclogged the pipes (just in case) & made sure there's no blockage in the pipes. The bubbles stropped or became very little & the power restored in the pipe. Tea told me, there is no visible damage to the plaster. Lumps are barely visible (I sent him pics), so if it's not broken, why fix it? I can come there & charge you for consultation, estimate or fix but why bother? I gave you advice, you fixed the issue, there's nothing wrong, the plaster gets lumps due to many reasons, don't mess with them, don't bang on them, let is fall apart, then we will fix it. They may never even break apart or crack, so why fix it? So, after a few back & forth calls, sending pics, trading e-mails & funny jive talking, he gave me some good info & we said so long until next time. Tea will surely be my future pool fixer. He fixes your pool by scuba diving without draining the water, he gives you tons of advice & he is crazy & funny. He even gave me constructive advice & I am somewhat of a pool expert myself! I can talk to someone for 5 minutes & figure who he is! I read people pretty good, because I hire a lot of contractors & I'm a journalist. I know the deals. This guy is a character, he knows his stuff & he has ethics. In my book, he is a winner & worthy to be on the list of my top contractors. This is THE GUY if your pool needs work! My pool was leaking due to two cracks. I was getting really frustrated trying to get this issue addressed. I called several companies that my pool maintenance guy recommended. They either didn't show up for scheduled appointments or never called back. Work must be good in San Diego! I also called the company that resurfaced the pool for the previous owners. They came out and told me the whole pool would have to be resurfaced for $14K as it was done 20 years ago. The previous owner contacted them and reminded them that they actually resurfaced it only a few years ago so the price came down to about $3K. I contacted Tea after looking at Yelp reviews and I am so glad I did! Here are the important things to know: 1. He knows his business! He can tell you everything about your pool and the best way to repair it. 2. He won't gouge you. He doesn't try to come in high with all sorts of unnecessary work. 3. He looks out for whats best for the customer - long term. He told us right off the bat that he could repair the two cracks but they probably would come back. He pointed out a shifting soil issue that should be addressed before we spend a lot of money on resurfacing, etc. 4. He is GOOD GUY! He will spend time talking to you about stuff that has nothing to do with his services or him making money. A lot of the other people I talked to really need help with their customer service skills. I reached out to Tea for a crack in our pool. He called me back the same day, and was very easy to communicate with. He made sure to explain everything about the process involved. He fixed the crack (and a pool light we didn't know we had) and follow-up with us over the next week to make sure the pool wasn't continuing to leak. Good thing, because it was still leaking! I was referred to Underwater Pool MD by a friend who builds pools. Best contact ever. I had 4 rust spots that were so ugly. The pool contractor we used 15 years ago is no longer in business, of course. Tea came out, gave a written and very fair estimate for repair. My pool light was dead and the screw was completely stripped. I contacted many professionals on YELP and thumbtack and they either wanted to drain the pool/ break the light or were unreasonably expensive. Tea, came for a quick consult, was honest and straight forward and fun to talk to. His price was reasonable and much lower than the competition. Kathy - Santee Tea came out to look at the degrading areas of our fiberglass pool early in the week and was able to come out on Friday to complete the job. He is extremely pleasant to work with - the first thing he did was fish a gopher out of our pool since I'm terrified of rodents. Tea is very honest and we have used him in the past. We had our pool completely redesigned and replastered finally and I figured I wouldn't need to use Tea for a few years. About a year later I noticed a rust spot and since the company that did my pool remodel looked like they went out of business I called Tea. He asked me to send him a picture, takes a look and says, "Don't worry, that is just from some metal particles that got in the granite mix they used. You have a little bit of surface rust only, it isn't from the rebar." Tea then tells me, "Just get a diamond pad and scrub it a little and it will come right up." This was exactly the case! I am so disappointed in the owner Tea. This is completely unprofessional. If you have a timeline and need a reliable contractor, this is not him. I fully communicated to Tea before hiring him and signing the contract that I needed this job done ASAP so I could put my house on the market. Tea picked the date and we agreed it would be done today. However, I was blindsided and I am extremely upset because I guess there was no intent to meet this deadline. Just now at 8 am when the job was supposed to start at 9 am, Tea says "I forgot my compressor is down. I can't do the job today". I let him know that they sell and rent compressors at the Home Depot, but apparently he was not that committed to get this done on schedule. He became angry with me and suggested that if I am so upset about this, then I should cancel the job. So be it. Completely unprofessional. If he knew he had this issue yesterday, why would he not have communicated that then, instead of one hour to start time. Actually he didn't even communicate it to me, I had reached out to him to make sure he had property access to the property in the morning. I believe he simply didn't want to work today. I spoke to Tea on the phone about my pool issue which is best summarized by my daughter gave a hard kick and broke the drain cover at the bottom of the pool. He was extremely courteous and took the time to explain to me that my broken pool cover was not manufactured anymore because it was not raised therefore non-compliant with current regulations. Tea went out of his way to research the proper pool drain cover and sent me a picture of the replacement unit as well as the address of the online business to obtain it. I am so impressed that he didn't try to sell me on expensive unneeded underwater service and pretty much encouraged me to do the job myself. OMG!!!!!!!!! I am not easily impressed but Tea and his crew were amazing! We had a rebar issue and he was able to take care of it no problem you can't even tell it was there. There was a small rust stain that he sanded right off. We also had a light issue, we talked to so many companies that said they could not fix the light. When I talked to Tea he said he knew exactly what the problem was and thought he knew just how to fix it. He saved the day and was able to fix the light issue so many people said could not be fixed unless we drill through the concrete. All this on short notice and at a very reasonable price.
