Best pool service ever! I found this company through family and friends. It's been a few months now, and they do spectacular service. They schedule a service tech on a particular day each week. They test, add chemicals, skim pool, clean baskets and tiles, brush, and even vacuum. They even take a photo after they are done and email you a report. Great value for all the services! Our tech David is awesome. Super chill, hard working, and I love that he latches our gate softly when exiting (takes care of our property). Communication is great. We had a small leak in our tank. I emailed the office and Giana coordinated the fix. Awesome service! Yes, they have dedicated repair staff too. I wish I would have found this team years ago. Matt V worked with me and a landscaping company to install a free-form in-ground pool in our backyard. It was a difficult install since there was tons of rock to dig through, but he had a great can-do attitude and there were basically no extra or hidden charges. He was very easy to work with (responsive and clear) and I think the price was competitive. He worked-well with the landscaping company to coordinate on a few things like flatwork and electrical. We were having difficulty with our Spa equipment and contacted the manufacturer (Jandy in Carlsbad CA). The manufacturer was kind enough to send us out a new mother board. The one caveat was that we needed to have it installed by 1 of their approved service vendors listed on their website. I logged onto their website and found Clear Expectations not too far form my home. At first the staff at clear expectations were quick to get back to me. We spent about 5 minutes on the phone discussing what my needs were, and I let them know that I am a physician and work Monday through Friday from 8 until 6 PM. I asked if Saturday mornings were an option? To which the gentleman on the phone replied "yes". He then proceeded to tell me that when he receives the part from the manufacture (located here in Carlsbad California) he would call me to schedule for the following Saturday as it would only take about 30 minutes to install. Cost was estimated at $200-$300, to which I told him I would be more than happy to pay. 2 weeks went by with no call from Clear Expectations. To ship from Carlsbad to Rancho Bernardo should only be a few days I thought? I left a few text/VM's and even tried to email. The response I received was delayed and if I recall something to the effect of... "Oh, sorry to keep you waiting, Ummm we had a couple boxes come into the office, & when I get down there, I will check to see if any of them are your part." I never received a phone call back. After a few more messages I finally got them to schedule for the following Saturday morning. At the 11th hour I received a text stating that the technician who was going to install my part had a family emergency and that his wife needed to be rushed to the hospital for possible cardiac event. Naturally being in the medical field, I was more than happy to cancel the appointment and wished them the best... Within minutes the gentleman on the phone requested if they could do it the following Monday evening after work instead? Knowing this I canceled some of my patients and decided I would race home to meet him on Monday. Prior to leaving the office I texted them to let them know I was on the way & should arrive in about 20 minutes. When I got home, I sat around waiting for them. They No showed! They never returned my text messages, they never called to tell me they were running late, or cannot make it either??? I had been stood up again. Around this time, I was starting to wonder if the installer's wife was ever ill? I think it was the following day when I received a generic text back from them that stated something to the effect of: We received your message and unfortunately yesterday's schedule was full and if I would like to get on the schedule for this week... please call the main office line. Naturally, I was thoroughly confused, but regardless did as instructed and called the main line. I left multiple messages and told him that I would be willing to take off time from work again on Wednesday if they could squeeze me and at the end of the day. The office gal was very sweet and listened to my concerns & promised she was going to do her best to get someone to come out there Wednesday at end of business day... Again, I stopped seeing patients early, and planned on rushing home. Again on the way texted them my ETA. I never received word back from anyone, and they no showed for the appointment once again. Naturally, by this time I had enough and notified the staff that I would like to come by and pick up the part on my lunch break. I have since contacted their competitor located only a few miles away and have them scheduled to come out on Wednesday. Estimated cost to do the same job is only $95-$150. ***In summary if you can actually get in touch with the staff and talk with them over the phone they are genuinely nice people, I just think that they have way too much on their plate at this time. We are very grateful for having come across Clear Expectations when we were looking to repair a rust issue with our spa wall (our pool was re-plastered over 15 yrs ago and I only had a few sheets of replacement tile on hand). Matt came out to look at the problem and we chatted at length on what the possible causes of the issue could be. Matt explained they needed to determine how far the rust as traveled to ensure they could fix the root cause inside the wall. He provided a reasonable estimate for the work and Victor came out the next day to begin carefully removing some of the tiles so they could be reused. After draining the spa into the pool Victor noticed a thin crack that ran the entire bottom of the inside spa wall between the 2-rust spots (source of the water into the spa wall). Victor showed me then contacted Matt who came back out immediately to discuss what this meant for a full repair and the obvious increased cost. Matt was very thorough in his explanations on the various phases that needed to be done (Demo, Rebuild rebar cage, Plastering, Tile work, grouting, and quartz coating to match what was already there. He answered all my questions. Matt provided quotes for each phase and even said he would make sure he could obtain an exact tile match and quantities of tiles needed before beginning any demo work. Matt and Victor kept me apprised as to what they were doing each step of the way. We were always contacted beforehand to ensure we knew what time they would be there to do the work each day. The pool area was always cleaned up with tools and supplies neatly stacked in a corner when they were done for the day, and they even worked around the days when we had rain. We were able to see how poorly constructed the original pool spa wall was constructed (undersized rebar that did not go high enough in the wall nor was it tied off properly) Matt was also able to obtain enough replacement tiles in the same pattern for the entire job, and they were able to match the original grout color. Matt and Victor were even meticulous enough to obtained touch-up paint to apply to the edge of tiles that were cut to ensure they matched the rest of the tile work and grout. The finished spa wall looks fabulous! You can barely tell that anything was replaced unless you knew what to look for and looked real close! We have been using our spa again and we are very happy. June 12, 2017 Finally finished the pool and now its time to summarize our experience with Clear Expectations. We had them come back and install our new salt water chlorinator, an outdoor outlet for our lights, and program our pump settings. Overall a positive experience as we mentioned in our previous review below. Very professional , quality of work was great. Here are a few minor tweaks I would have made had I known ahead of time. 1. Pool set up. If you are used to cleaning your own pool, checking your own Chems, vacuuming , brushing, I would recommend not paying the $350 to do this. The pool guy they use came for 1 day, he did a total break down of our DE filtration system. He added chlorine and a little bit of conditioner. He said he vacuumed the pool but my camera didn't show that he did. I'd hire a different pool company to do this. I paid $180 to clean my filter from another company. Save yourself some money and do this on your own. 2. We had Pentair's screen logic upgrade installed. The iphone app has tons of bugs. I periodically lose connection and only works 50% of the time when connecting outside of your wifi system (internet). Save the money and do the research. Not worth the $1800 IMO. - Again, Overall a positive experience. May 18, 2017 I posted some before and after pics of our month long remodel. To be clear, we had clear expectations do the work on our pool finish as well as remodel. we chose stonescapes minipebble Tahoe blue in color with a touch of glass. This remodel was quite an experience for us. We bought a home with a 40 plus year old pool and we later discovered that it was leaking due to cracks in the plaster as well as the wall that housed the pool Light. We chose Clear Expectations after a rigorous bidding process with several pool remodeling companies. We had bids from almost all of them on yelp. Some never called us back, some said that I would need a total rebuild and it would cost me well over $50k just for the pool. Some companies even refused to do the work, saying it was too complicated of a repair. Yes, even the one guy that has a show on the home improvement network refused to take on our remodel. Then we met Matt. He was confident that he could take care of our pool. He assured us that he would make sure our repair/remodel would be done right. Just to be clear, if you read my past reviews on yelp, you can probably tell that I am one of those pain in the ass customers and when my OCD took over, you can count on me firing off questions and concerns as if it were the end of the world. But Matt stayed calm and collected and put us (mainly me) at ease. After the demo of our old plaster, it was revealed that we needed major work on our pool. We basically had to rebuild the whole pool and reinforce walls as well as take some walls down, see pics I posted. Matt didn't over price the repair, we were charged what was fair and he took care of us through and through. The wall build, the shotcrete as well as the rebar was all subcontracted by Matt through Demaria pool re plastering. I will write a separate review for them here soon. But all of Matts subcontractors were easy to deal with, respectful and they all knew that we needed to stay on budget. Each big day (shotcrete, demo, rebar, pebble pour, ) had a job site supervisor present to make sure our needs were met and that we were happy with the process. Short of setting up a lawn chair, I stood there and watched ever second of the job, no one minded and even narrated the process for me. If you have a nightmare of a remodel, I highly recommend Matt at Clear Expectations, as well as De Maria pool replastering. Both companies were easy to deal with. As a side note, I used a different company for my decking and coping, I've written reviews about them (CandR pavers). Clear Expectations will be doing my startup and prepping my pool next week. Will write up a summary next week. Original review April 2017: So far, our review is about Matt's responsiveness to our pending pool remodel in which we will be starting with Clear expectations after Easter Sunday. I have not work with Clear Expectations yet but used their knowledge to get more information on how to renovate/demolish a pool at a property I was looking to purchase. Within 10 minutes they had answered all my questions and even gave me an estimated cost for the services I was looking for -even without seen the property (keep in mind they will always have to walk through the property to give exact proposals for their services). The repairs that we completed ended up needing work again on the pump we had thought was replaced just over a year after it was repaired.

We had clear expectations for our pool service for some time they were ok but then our pool pump went out they sent us a estimate to replace it and I called and asked them to Send a bill with a break down showing the labor charge and herd nothing then my wife called and asked to have a technician call her and again nothing then I called again then they sent the same bill again with no break down so we had someone install a new pump and motor they were $500.00 dollars cheaper works great and we are going with a new pool service. Poor service from there office. Update one week after we canceled service with them the pool guy showed up to clean our pool we felt bad for him the company didn't even tell him we had canceled with them this is very poor service on the company's part. read more

We used Clear Expectations for 2 years. The 1st year or so was fine, we had the same tech who did a great job. Then they sent multiple techs on days we weren't scheduled for. Recently our pool turned into what looked like pond water. They blamed it on the rain, and wanted to charge us an extra $245 to clear it up. The manager also stated that the cost was more like $500, but basically they were eating the rest. This was all through long emails from them with no calls. We said no thanks and found another company to take over. CE accepted and credited us for the remaining 3 visits for the month. The pool ended up clearing up after a couple of days of filtering through. Also, our new less expensive tech noticed right away the pool vac wasn't hooked up properly (by CE) and for a charge of only a $19 part it was fixed and now roams the whole pool as it should. read more

Initially doing an ok job in the maintenance of the pool. After some visits things started to break - the filter, the robot, the pump. Every time they claim they send technicians to check and make an assessment of the repairs needed. However, nobody actually shows up. They follow-up with a message stating that a full replacement is needed and then a quote. Initially, it was credible, but a couple of instances there were only lies: nobody showed up, there was no technician, no explanation of the repairs needed, etc. We have decided to cancel all services with them and will probably never go back. I would not recommend this company at all. read more

I just got my old pool pump replaced by Clear Expectations. I got three quotes quickly from Clear Expectations, one for replacing just the motor of the old pump, one for replacing the whole pump with a mid level pump, the last one for replacing the the whole pump with a high end pump, which enabled me to make an informed decision. Scheduling the repair service was smooth and easy even considering the rainy days that had complicated the scheduling. The tech arrived on time, was very courteous and professional. The existing PVC pipe somehow expanded just slightly enough through years of usage that it couldn't fit with the new pump's pipe. The tech had to cut out the whole section between the filter and the pump and replaced it with new PVC pipe to make it work. I am very satisfied with the works done and the pleasant service I received from Kendra and the tech. Now I am all ready for the summer pool fun time. read more

Would not recommend them. At first we had them clean the pool, but when they said the filter was broken, we had it fixed. Little did we know that getting it fixed would take MONTHS as they seemed to replace the entire thing, but not without weeks where it would screech and overheat. Not to mention when we asked for a pool cover, we received a $500 sheet of bubblewrap that first was a "cover" to keep the rain out, then turned into a "solar heater"??? There would be two or more workers out here on multiple days, they would leave not only the pool gate wide open but our backyard gate wide open, and they maybe said five words to us over the course of having them as pool guys. Please avoid these fellows until they learn better business tact. [12/24] After the fifth request from Clear Expectations that I amend or remove my One Star Rating for this business, I am going to be doing just that. It took leaving this review in order to get any sort of prompt, professional service. With the exception of Christmas of course, they have been coming only on the days we've requested and will knock on our door (after) they are finished, but at least there is some warning they are here at all. They arrived to remove the pool cover the next day and have been better than in the previous months, but after telling them I was going to amend my review in January, it's now Christmas Eve and here we are. read more
