I dined in at Unforked yesterday for lunch and I'm happy to report that I found it pleasantly unchanged since before COVID. The menu is still eclectic, the tacos are still delightful, and they still carry some fun hot sauce flavors to add an extra kick to anything on the menu. There is one thing that always drives me nuts though, which is that they always serve your tacos in individual bowls (think chipotle plastic bowls). So, when I order two tacos for lunch it looks crazy at my table as I try to meander through these large bowls for one taco each. I would have a much better dining experience if they would consider how they plate the meals. They do the same thing with fries and burgers - so if you order a burger and fries you get two huge containers that are separate. I'm sure there is a reason, but it seems to me that folks would enjoy their meal more if it was presented in a more pleasant way to eat. Just my two cents! I love unforked! Me and my job has ordered food several times and it's so good. My favorite food here is the ancient grain bowl with chips and guacamole, I also love the strawberry banana chunk concrete. They have a lot of options rather you want to eat healthier restaurant food or treat yourself. Don't listen to the bad reviews, I've came back several times. The food is flavorful and the price isn't too expensive unless you're looking for McDonald's prices or other fast food prices that don't put good things in your food. I had a smash burget that was on special that day. I also had the akauishi burger and some truffle fries. Both burgers were awesome. Crisp meat and tender but toasty bun. Cheesy. Freshest looking veg on the akauishi burger. Fries were good to me but not great. Rough cut but a little oily. I like crispy fries and these were not. Lots of interesting juice and tea soft drink choices and the regular fountain style sodas-drinks were self serve. Will definitely go back. Lots of other interesting menu items. read more

I went on a cold , rainy day wanting something fresh for lunch. I am so glad I did! The drive thru is precarious in a bigger vehicle, and I watched many trucks have to back up to make the sharp turn. The aesthetics of the building is pleasant , and inviting. I was intrigued by the kale salad, and made that my first item to order. The second choice was difficult because everything sounded so yummy. I settled on the sweet potato wedges. The kale salad is dressed in the perfect amount of evoo, and lemon juice. Be warned: if you're going to be in public following consumption, pop a piece of gum. The garlic lingers. All vampire vibes aside, I will order this again. The sweet potatoes were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The tangy cheese they sprinkle on the top has slightly melted, giving you a cheese fry vibe . The spicy dressing: so, so YUM! Years ago this building was a frozen custard shop... order at a window and sit on a bench... no indoor seating... and it was one of my FAVORITE places to go grab a treat. When that custard shop converted to a sit down restaurant I lost interest and never went there again. Since then I've heard multiple friends on many occasions talk about Unforked making claims that it was either good, bad, overpriced, etc... none of that made me want to change my mind and give it a shot. But a friend wanted to meet for lunch and chose the location, so there I was. On entry I was surprised to see how much space there was in the building... and how many people were there for the lunch rush. The menu was manageable, but as I often do, I just asked my buddy what he liked and ordered the same. It was a double burger with cheese and bacon and a side of fundido fries. He paid the bill, so I'm not really sure what I spent, though I couldn't help but notice the bill for three of us was pushing $60 before tip. I remember thinking, "This better be a really good burger." When our buzzer went off and the food arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The fries came in a generous portion (enough that we could EASILY have shared them!) and the burger was tantalizing enough that I didn't stop for my usual round of food photos. The reason I had to take my rating down a star is because I feel the portions sizes vs price do not line up. Everything you have to order is separate so the total can add up very quick. For example, the mini shake from my photos was $6 which for the size and taste I did feel the price should have been as high. The main entree food was delicious though,very flavorful and everything came out perfectly cooked. They say everything is locally sourced and they try and be as organic as possible which I enjoy. So disappointed. This is one of my favorite ice cream places. Then, when they started serving food, it was such a nice addition. I used to have the kale salad almost weekly, and have been having the concretes since I was a kid. The truffle fries are crave worthy as well. After moving back to the area, I was so excited to order from here. We ordered via the drive thru this afternoon. It wasn't that busy. Staff was nice. The truffle fries had zero truffle flavor, none at all. Such a let down. The regular fries were stale tasting. Both were not even warm. Husbands burger was good, and kale salad was good. Then my dirts and worms concrete only had toppings at the very top. 3/4th of the concrete was just vanilla custard. For $7, it feels like a rip off McFlurry. When it's good though, it's SO GOOD! Situated on the SE corner of 119th & Riley, this joint has a drive thru and ample parking. Came in Saturday around dinner time and it wasn't that busy. I soon found out why. This place is trying to be 3 different things at once...and does a poor job at all of them. Given the fancy decor, refined trappings, and expensive location; it looks to be an upscale casual dining spot. Given the drive thru; it's part fast food. And going through the menu; it wants to be a semi-serious chef-driven restaurant. It may technically check the boxes at first blush, but it does so in a fashion that's jumbled, clumsy, and in a sad way that utterly falls flat. Let me explain... The drive thru appeared to be one of, if not the slowest I've ever seen based on the number of vehicles making it through. The price point greatly exceeded the products offered. Which leads into the food itself. The KC Hot Birdie (of which I ordered as hot as possible), was a sad, not spicy chicken tender on a bun. The Porto Pure Burger was a tiny patty and one large slice of portobello that was a leaky trainwreck. The fries were borderline burnt. And the margarita, while tasty, was simply not worth the price of admission. So in review, this place is: A) Not a value B) Nothing a real chef would claim C) Super slow drive thru D) All of the above The answer is D. Which is a better letter grade than it really deserves. Given the plethora of other options in the area, I'm not sure why you'd pick this place. Indeed, hitting QT next door would be faster, tastier, and a much better value. read more

Honestly... I want to love it sooo bad. SO SO BAD. But the flavor just really is not there for me. My boyfriend really likes this place because of one of their tacos. The Barking Pig is the best taco on the menu. We are big foodies we have tried them all and the other ones are just not great. Anything with tempura has way too much breading and the flavor combinations they go for do not marry well. The meat in their tacos is not super flavorful and some of the combinations are not good. HOWEVER, their sides/apps/drinks are great. We love the edamame hummus (even though the pita is a little bland) and we LOVE LOVE the truffle fries. They have perfected the truffle fry. They're super crispy and FULL of flavor. I also think their frozen margs are delicious!! Their ice cream is okay. Again, just not super flavorful and the toppings take over so if you want ice cream, make it one with toppings you really like. This is a good healthy alternative in KC but after going here 3 or 4 times they just have not won me over. :( read more

My coworkers and I decided to get lunch from the location on 119th. We viewed the menu items and pictures online. Everything looked so delicious. We were really excited about trying as many items as we could because it All looked amazing. We placed orders online for 4 different people on 1 ticket. The total came to $61+. 1 coworker went to pick up the food after we placed the online order. Everything is packaged nice and we are All excited!! 1 co-worker ordered the KC Hot Birdie chicken sandwich, she is from New Mexico and said that something was OFF with the taste of her sandwich and it tasted like spoiled cheese or blue cheese was on it. She stopped eating and threw it in the trash. I ordered chips and Queso with a Southern Swag taco. The Queso was good, the taco had an egg on it and that egg ruined the taco. The sauce and the meat were good. However, the egg may have gone bad, not sure but very unpleasant taste, threw that in the trash. 1 coworker got 3 different tacos as well as Queso dip. Again the Queso dip was good, out of the 3 tacos she threw 2 1/2 in the trash. She took one bite of the barking pig and then asked me to taste it. I tasted it and felt that maybe it was the flavors that did not mix but it was inedible, thrown in the trash. The Citrus Chicken taco, she took one bite of it turned her face up and threw that in the trash. I was not brave enough to try another taco. She tried the southern swag, it was not the best for her but she was able to eat over half of it. Then the shake, the coworker who got the shake just said it was not that good but not horrible, definitely not worth the money that she paid. We called and informed the floor manager of our disappointment with the food, she took the number down and said she will give it to the owner. The owner Matt called the coworker who went to get the food. She stated that he called last night and was arguing with her about our complaints. Then after arguing with her he then blamed us for our complaints and offered 15 dollars to be returned. Wow!!! Overall, for 61 plus dollars and all that was eaten in its entirety was a shake and two orders of chips and queso the very least the owner could do was be concerned with our bad experience. We may have given it another try. Maybe the cooks did something different, maybe you have a new cook. But to be defensive, to belittle, and then Blame us for the foul tasting food that was made and served to 4 different people is beyond reprehensible. We work with the public and as many people that order from different restaurants we promote ones that we like. This location has the WORST Owner/Manager that I have ever encountered and I am personally offended and disgusted. For your disgusting, ill prepared food that came from your location you could have at least been nice about it. That is horrible customer service that accompanies the horrible, offensive food that was served to us. We will NEVER return and each person who sees us order food we will tell them to NEVER eat at this location. We know any business can have an off day, it's life and it happens. But when the manager/owner is a horrible person with no customer service, that takes it to a whole new level. You should be shamed!!! But I am sure you are not. Thank you for returning 15 dollars, we will gladly spend it at another restaurant that has good food and great customer service! read more

I appreciate what this business is trying to do, and they always offer interesting options. Everything looks tasty but for some reason I feel like I get burned every time I come here. :( For instance, the veggie quesadilla claims to have grilled onions and peppers in it, but the onions I got both times I ordered this dish looked like they had never seen a grill, much less any form of heat. Other menu items I've attempted to eat here are usually disappointing in a similar way. Then there's the wait. They warn to-go cars right out of the gate that the food is made with love and stuff, and as such will take longer than most places - that I'm fine with! But I also would hope that my food isn't waiting for me to get through the line as well and that does seem to be the case. Every time I've received food from here it's been lukewarm at best, and cold by the time I get home. I love Unforked! I don't know how I I haven't reviewed this location yet but it deserve all of the stars and positive feedback. The customer service is amazing! Everyone is always so kind. They're helpful when you're confused about ordering or need recommendations. I am vegan and they have a few amazing vegan options, including seasonal menu options. Once you've ordered you're given an pager and then you can go and get your drink (the hibiscus lemonade is my favorite.) The good prep time is generally pretty quick, which is awesome because we're usually there over my husbands lunch break. The impossible burger is always my go-to but they also have amazing tacos and their seasonal harvest chili is soooo good! My husband has tried all of their tacos before and has his favorites, but loves them all! read more
