Don't bother if you are looking for fresh food. Not healthy, not hot, not tasty. It was our first time in and the girl who took our order let us know from her expressions and assistance that she did not love her job. She was rude and uninformed. Our fries were ice cold. You could taste that the fry oil was either old or dirty. Every thing about this place is blah. We got the strawberry shortcake- advertised as warm buttery shortcake with hand picked strawberries- plural strawberries- it was stale and there was a half of a strawberry on top. Cold food and rude employees: Since Unforked reopened I was so excited to go back and eat there. Unfortunately, this experience was subpar. I ordered a pickup order in advance as I was coming off of work and needed to get my food as soon as possible. Due to the fact that drive thru only is available, I assumed the order could be picked up in drive thru. There were no directions on the pickup information and when I asked the employee working the drive thru they rudely instructed me that I somehow should've known that the pickups were inside and to "next time, go inside". Not only that, when I went to go pick up my food at the time I specified it was cold. Cold fries, cold burger, everything. It didn't even feel like it was under a heat lamp to preserve the warmth. What a fun refreshing lunch (especially when you don't want last nights leftovers!). I tried the Akaushi burger with of course bacon added ( so worth the charge), and a side of truffle fries. They both were delicious. The burger wasn't greasy, but also not dry. The bun was airy and held up to the very end. The sauce and topping only complimented the meat and didn't distract from the flavor. I really enjoyed the fries. They were well seasoned and I appreciated some extra crispy and some some fries mixture. I will add you get a lot of fries, so I suggest sharing and order of fries with someone. Unforked has a unique look and an unusual menu. It's a burger joint, born of a frozen custard shop, that also serves frufru tacos made with fish, chicken, a couple pulled pork choices (one of them comes with pico and white bbq sauce - Mexican barbeque?), plus avocado, mushroom, or black bean options - which prompts me to ask, "Where's the beef?" They offer two salad choices, one is a kale salad (my wife had this with grilled chicken and said it was "acceptable") and the other is made with kohlrabi and chopped dates, etc. (What's wrong with lettuce??) And of the six different burgers on the menu, only two and a half of them include meat - check the menu and you'll understand. Maybe the culinary world has passed me by, but it seems to me that it would be possible to please the woke customers without entirely abandoning those of us with less sophisticated palates. I've visited twice, and both times I've ordered the single Pure Burger made with Black Angus beef. On the menu, this looks good. However, the patty is rather thin and too small for the bun and both times it was dry, overcooked, and flavorless with a tiny little slice of tomato added almost as an afterthought. The saving grace (well, it didn't quite save the burger) was the egg bun which was fresh, soft and tasted like it had just come from a bakery. They splash on some "Unspread" which is simply mayonnaise spiked with so much paprika that it turns a disconcerting orange color. A couple pickle slices would have been nice, but I don't think they are available. If you decide to order a burger, I suggest getting the double patty and add some cheese so it won't taste so dry. My wife is trying to eat Keto so of course she ordered the diced cauliflower (I think cauliflower is a staple of all keto diets) and she said it was fine but didn't have much flavor. I don't think she liked it much because it looked like she'd only taken a couple bites when we were finished with our meal. On the bright side the fries are fresh cut and amazing. They also come Fundido style topped with queso and applewood smoked bacon crumbles - it's really, really good. Unfortunately, the ketchup is served in packets rather than in a bottle or a pump. I strained so much to open the ketchup package that I almost ended up flying it across the dining room as I opened it. The outdoor patio is on the wrong side of the restaurant, completely exposed to the sun in the afternoon and evening with no shade whatsoever. During the season of the year that you can use the patio, not only is it too hot, but you'll also be blinded as the sun sets at dinner time. Near the fountain drinks they have a couple large glass jugs of filtered water with lemon and lime slices which is a nice touch. My experience with Unforked was obviously hit and miss, but I don't think they have enough traditional menu choices (and other than the fries their traditional choices aren't good enough) to convince an old school guy like myself to return except to maybe munch on some fries or grab some custard for dessert. There is lots of potential here and the right audience will probably enjoy it, but it's not for me. read more

Super fast drive through for a chef's palate fast-food taste. Grabbed two tacos and a custard on a Saturday evening. Very little wait in the drive thru. Enjoyed the Citrus Crunch Chicken taco, which had spicy honey glaze and hint of cilantro. The Surf n' Turf taco on the other hand was very bland lacking any punch of flavor. I've been coming here probably about since they opened. The service is consistently good and the food is pretty consistent as well. They were one of the first places to serve the impossible burger which was MUCH appreciated as someone who does not eat meat. Is it a bit overpriced? For sure. But honestly I think they can get away with it. The fries aren't my favorite but I know some people really like them. The homemade lemonade is good but REALLY sweet. They're helpful when you're confused about ordering or need recommendations. I am vegan and they have a few amazing vegan options, including seasonal menu options. Once you've ordered you're given an pager and then you can go and get your drink (the hibiscus lemonade is my favorite.) The good prep time is generally pretty quick, which is awesome because we're usually there over my husbands lunch break. We had 3 separate orders, and the delay between the second and third order was painfully long. If there was a counter that kept track of how often our family visits each restaurant in KC each year, I have a feeling Unforked would be in the top three. The menu has upscale comfort food splattered all over it: burgers, tacos, quesadillas, fries and....CUSTARD. For those of you not in-the-know, the "Sheridan's" in "Sheridan's Unforked" IS, in fact, the same as the Sheridan's Frozen Custard franchise. And that's a very good thing. Why? Because you can get such things as the "Kiss My Bundt", which is a platter-sized dessert of fresh, hot chocolate bundt cake smattered with hot fudge, raspberries and, of course, huge scoops (yes, scoopS - plural) of vanilla custard. You could share it with your entire family of four....or not...you know, if it's just one of those days... The food is always very, very good. It's made to order, which means you will wait a couple minutes, but it's true to the fast-casual style. Favorites on the food menu are the Barking Pig, Southern Swag and Cali tacos, and the Akaushi (look it up - it stands for "amazing" in food-beef speak) and Thai Dye burgers. And truffle fries. Always truffle fries. On this last visit, I tried the seasonal Fried Egg BLT, and inhaled it. Because adding a fried egg to anything just makes it...inhale-able. Apologies go out to my lovely wife who wanted a bite but was unable to call dibs before it disappeared into my tummy. There are only two things I don't appreciate about Unforked: the drive through is designed more with pedestrians in mind than actual, American-sized automobiles (who can make that turn??); also, the fact that they charge for "ordering" water, if that's what we want to call it. When you charge premium prices for the food, you don't get to hit me for $0.40 for a cup of water. If the fancy citrus-infused luxury water on hand is so expensive to produce, I'd love to opt for a "freer" and less fancy option. This is like everything my family likes in a restaurant, options for everyone and great quality foods, along with not too shabby prices! I was super excited to see the vegetarian options they had, and that they had some of my favorite kind of stuff! They just reopened the drive thru. I've been so excited for them to reopen. I waited forever in line, ordered a salad and asked them to give me the cilantro avocado dressing instead of the ranch. I mentioned that I thought it was shareable size when I ordered, and the person taking my order did not inform me that it was not shareable size. One complaint about the salad with dates was that it was not as much quantity as the kale salad. My coworker was also annoyed that the dates were not chopped, and instead were just big full dates in the salad that required cutting. If you want to submit a to-go order, it probably won't happen. I did go during the end of the lunch time hour, so their was a line/wait to go through the drive thru line. I had two or three cars ahead of me. I would say it's fast food, but more of a gourmet fast food. The tacos were all amazing....Southern Swag has to be my favorite! Who doesn't like a fried egg on a taco?! We also tried Concretes which were the perfect treat to go along with tacos. I was less impressed by the fries, but will be coming back for more tacos and maybe even a burger next time. I had this place bookmarked for almost 2 years and finally tried this place out. I came around 11:20am and it wasn't busy just yet. The parking was limited but I still found a spot easily. There was a line to order and pay but that only took a few minutes. I ordered the Porto Pure Burger ($7.00), the BFF ($3.50), and a fountain drink ($1.60). There was also a Front Flip barcode thing there at the register so if you have that app, then try your luck. I was tempted to order more because this place was 40 minutes away from me but decided not to. It will give me an excuse to come back here. lol Anyways, the straws for the fountain drinks were those ones you would find in a pearl (boba) milk tea drink but that wasn't a big deal. I waited a few minutes before the pager went off to pick my food up. The Porto Pure Burger was pretty good and that portobello mushroom was as big as the patty which meant every bite had some portobello mushroom in it. The UNspread was good and complemented the whole burger in my opinion. The BFF was delicious and was tempted to order another one. I ordered it with a whole wheat tortilla instead of a flour tortilla. I'd assume that every other taco they had would be around the same size. If that was the case, then one is definitely not enough for on person but that could just be me.
