Rebecca and Chris are world class sommeliers. Their restaurant and wine shop Ungrafted is our favorite. Excellent food, incredible wines, and impeccable service. The menus is always fresh and seasonal. And their fried chicken can't be beat. Ungrafted always feels so welcoming and comfortable -- a real neighborhood gem. I can't wait for SIP to end so we can bring friends and family to Ungrafted to share many meals and bubbles at their bar. Their SIP offerings are great too -- their Sunday online wine tasting classes (with cheese and charcuterie plates!) are really fun and educational. In a city with so many restaurants it's hard to see the same place twice, we keep coming back to Ungrafted. The wine list is fantastic, any glass on pour will be great - and some of the absolute best by the glass champagnes I've seen anywhere. The food is stupendous as well, and the prices are a downright bargain for how great this place is. And the people who work here and own the place are just awesome. One of those truly great restaurants that makes me very thankful to live close enough to visit often. read more

We go there wait for 20 mins without any host asking us or even interested in talking to us. There are 5 open tables and the host takes 15 mins to clean up a single table. Do yourself a favor and drink at Ungrafted. Their bottle selection is unparalleled, with a focus on Champagne. I loved their menu as well, lots of fun bites that have great wine pairing opportunities. Must haves were Za'atar bread, the mixed mushroom tempura, and the fried chicken sandwich. So many good things to say about this hidden gem in dogpatch, but two stand outs: - the za'atar pull apart bread us the best bread I've had in this town. Bar none. It's like eating a Cinnabon but with za'atar filling instead of cinnamon, and ya know, incredible tasting. What a cool spot! I stopped in here for wine and dinner with my partner for a great Saturday night date. I got a flight of 3 red wines that was fantastic. To eat, we had the za'atar pull apart bread (which I loved!) and the friend chicken, which came with a great hot sauce that really complimented the meat. We also ordered a half bottle of beaujolais that was very yummy. This is a great wine bar that is good for solo dining at the bar, a date night, or large party (as the space can accommodate a large number of people!). I can't wait to return! read more

A much needed addition to Dogpatch / Potrero that delivers comfort with class. Came in with the GF for a casual neighborhood date night and had a blast! They quickly set her up with an interesting flight of red wines (her favorite), which she loved, as I delved into some interesting whites - all excellent. But as interesting as the wine list is, the food might be its rival! Highlights included the pull-apart bread, which they season with middle eastern Za'atar served alongside labneh and a delicious tomato dip... Yum! There is also a delightful cajun fried chicken w/ a biscuit, but the star of the plate might be the DELICIOUS and not too hot hot sauce. Pro tip: make a spicy fried chicken biscuit sandwich and thank me later! The Sherry Salt fries might be the best bar snack i've had in a while.... so addictive! Whether you're looking for date night, a quick bite, or an epic bottle of wine, Ungrafted has you covered. Will definitely be back as a neighborhood staple. read more

Really awesome spot in Dogpatch for wine and sake! Reservation is probably a must if you're coming on a Friday - Saturday since this place gets really packed and most of the seats are reserved for those who called ahead. Their alcohol selection is great in terms of both wine and sake. There was a pretty large variety to choose from and I think there's something for everyone. The dishes here were good; I would think sophisticated bar food over gourmet entrees for the most part. I enjoyed the pull apart bread the most and thought the caviar was most overpriced. Service had a few kinks ( asking for water three times before we got some cups, waiting for service etc ) but I agree with other Yelpers that these issues are more attributed to people being new and will improve as time goes on. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon with a group of friends. The restaurant/bar is surprisingly spacious. The decor has an industrial vibe, but feels very relaxed and inviting. The wine selection is enourmous, and presented in nastalgia inducing trapper keepers with pages full of options. Chris, the Sommlier, asked us what kind of wine we were looking for, and presented some possible options. We went with a few of his recommendations, and enjoyed some truly special wine. Once the kitchen opened, we ordered some food to share. While I don't typically order lamb, I really enjoyed the lamb shank, and it was among the best lamb I've ever had. Ungrafted was/is one of those places that is super unsuspecting but delivers a great experience time and time again. I miss it. I've eaten there a few times for lunch but for some reason never reviewed before, so here goes... Not only is the wine list one of my favorites in the city but, the food is delicious too! Chris (one of the owners) is a super nice guy and is a Master Sommelier so, listen to his suggestions! As far as the food goes, I've had a few of the salads (super fresh), the fried chicken and some of the cheese boards. All awesome. Their virtual wine classes have been the highlight of surviving quarantine. The knowledge they share is top-notch. You can see that Chris really enjoys teaching and cares that you learn and take away skills for you to better appreciate wine. Plus he's really fun and entertaining. The wine selection for tasting during the class is always a selection of really good wines that also broaden your palate. They have a great selection that you may not find anywhere else. The two of us had: - Fries (4/5) - Standard fries , but pretty good. - Scallop ceviche (3.5/5) - Nice but not memorable. - Spinach (3.5/5) - Pretty standard, but well cooked. - Za'atar pull-apart bread (3/5) - Wasn't as soft as I was expecting. - Octopus (3/5) - Octopus itself was over cooked, but the stuff around it was pretty good. - Bratwurst (4/5) - Pretty tasty sausage. The acid from the spinach cut the richness of the collar very nicely. The lamb chops were also great, if a bit on the rare side. The setting is cozy and the service friendly and attentive. There's also plenty of room to maneuver between tables, so the place is accommodating for various wheeled contraptions (strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, etc). I will definitely return. read more

I love this place! I like wine but I really love bubbly wine and they have so many delicious options (even fun half bottles!). I would eat the za'atar pull apart bread everyday from now until forever. Rebecca, Chris, and the rest of the team are all very friendly and make wine approachable. I came here with a friend on a sunny Sunday afternoon for a blind tasting class. The place is super nice, industrial style that is still welcoming. All of the staff was attentive. Chris was an amazing instructor that gaves us lots of tips on how to properly blind test, being very encouraging and giving thorough answers to all of our questions. All the wines we tried were tasty and high quality stuff and we all enjoyed our wines! I will definitely come back for dinner as the menu seemed pretty yummy, prices seem very decent for both wine and food. Plus I saw there is a kid space and saw parents with their babies. Nice potential but room for improvement. They have one of the nicer outdoor parklet seating areas, and the staff is generally friendly and professional, although they did rush us out even though there were plenty of other empty tables. The food is a mixed bag - the shishito peppers and tempura mushrooms were good, while the vaunted 'everything fries' were mushy and boring. Had brunch here this morning. What a fabulous spread they offered all paired skillfully with a delightful assortment of wine. Some traditional fairs combines with exotic offering such as McFarland Springs trout with kimchi and broiled oysters. We all loved the Denver omelette and the "pull apart cinnamon bread. And the pancakes were fabulous. We order several dishes and enjoyed them Family style. Chris the owner was attentive and anxious to help. Even Executive Chef Naomi stopped by table-side to ask how we liked everything. If you like great food and wonderful wine and warm friendly staff all at a reasonable price then look no further. I was super excited to see a new wine bar open up in the Dogpatch, since it's mostly breweries and bars! And I was also intrigued by their concept of sommeliers as servers. Unfortunately, my experience left a lot to be desired. I visited Ungrafted last Friday night for drinks and dinner and it started off well - I was seated quickly and visited by a friendly sommelier who acquainted me with the menu. First red flag - After my sommelier brought me a glass of wine, he never came back to my table for the rest of the evening. No explanation or transfer to a new server. Just a poor woman who was running around trying to help all the tables in our section. Second red flag - I ordered a couple of appetizers (scallop ceviche and little gem salad), but it took over 40 minutes! Dinner (fried chicken) also took a long time and was so-so. Third red flag - The hostess started turning people away at the door even though there were open tables, since they weren't able to keep up with the seated customers. All of the tables near me were understaffed as well. Hopefully this is just an adjustment period as they get established. The staff were acutely aware that service was not up to par and made apologies and comped part of our meal. Not sure I would come back. read more

Is it a wine store that serves amazing food or a restaurant that sells amazing wine? The answer is BOTH. Most of the restaurants in SF are overpriced with mediocre food. If you love wine or food, this is the place for you! Must haves: hanger steak, za'atar bread, roasted beets with burrata, and churros. We tried Bedrock Red Wine (Sonoma) and Cotes-du-Coast Viognier (Paso Robles). Both were excellent. read more

Stopped in for lunch and a drink after leaving TAD. Fish and chip fries. They were incredible. The Star was the fried chicken. Been there 3 times. The first time was fabulous. The next two times the staff was so in the weeds, late, all over the place, wrong orders, wrong timing, etc etc etc. Just a total mess. Same thing, twice. And each time no break on any item was given either despite the extra 45 minutes and poor execution. It looked to me to be the sort of place that would not make it. I hope that's not the case because when they get it right they're very good. But they have major problems. read more
