Rating: 4.0 Came to try the place for easter brunch. It's an American restaurant and bars in East Greenwich. They do have parking available which is nice since there area mostly only have street parking. Inside is pretty large and they have lots of tables and counter. It was not too busy so we were sat down right away. They did have some easter specials but i ended up getting Fried chicken sandwich and deviled eggs. Deviled egg came out quickly. It was ok looked kind of sad as seen on the picture. Rest of the food took a while for it to come out which was weird because it wasn't that busy. Maybe short staffed. Finally the food arrived. Fried chicken sandwich was honestly not that great. Looked like it was fried too long, darkened. The cut did not have a lot of meat and it was very dry. The sauce and brioche bun helped it to balance it a bit. Fries were good. Overall the food was ok at best. We decided to try their dessert. We got the easter special egg cheese cake and carrot cake. The desert was excellent. Egg cheese cake had egg and nest looking chocolate frosting which made it look in theme for easter. It had nice creamy cheese flavor with chocolate frosting and good crust at the bottom. Carrot cake was moist and delicious. Service was ok. We had a new server that seemed like was not fully trained yet with knowledge about their menu. Wait was long for the main meal. I can see that she was trying though. Overall the place was ok. Food quality seemed to be inconsistent with the menus. If anything i would come back for the desert if they have the cheese cake around again. read more

Made it to trivia night~ surprising but an enjoyable suprise. Of course we joined for the second portion. Had some shared nachos, wings and Brussels sprouts. Checked out a new local place in East Greenwich - Union & Main. It was the first visit for all of us - and definitely not our last! #1 - so excited to arrive to ample parking - hard to find in EG. We had a choice of indoor or outdoor seating, high top or regular - the bar was also a great option - the whole place was clean and classy but not stuffy. Ambiance and presentation are nice, and the service was great, but the food was a miss for me. I had a bloody mary, fried chicken sandwich and side caesar. Bloody was okay, the mix could have benefited from some umami dimension like worcestershire. The fried chicken sandwich looked good - big piece of chicken stacked with pickles on a brioche bun, but it was bland to me. The chicken itself did not taste brined and the batter was nice and crispy, but it also had no seasoning. I was bummed, but added some Sriracha and ate most of it. A lot of my disappointment was surprisingly around the caesar. It came with SO much cheese on it and a side of dressing. Some people might like a lot of cheese but they put like a 1/4 cup of shaved parm and 1/4 cup of grated parm on it - it was a lot. The server was really great about replacing it, I felt a bit sheepish, but gave it another go with the cheese on the side. The second time there was no cheese on it but this time the greens were way overdressed vs. before the dressing was on the side. The croutons were homemade but stale. I've had plenty of caesar salads, it's usually a pretty safe pick, but after this experience I'll be ordering everything on the side. East Greenwich has no lack of restaurants ... however, they all feel a bit stuck in the mid 2000's. I don't love how narrow and crowded a lot of the good ones are. We were in search of pub grub style food, you know ... the kind that makes the typical size of American pants about 2x larger than the equivalent size in Europe. Give us cheese covered, deep fried, giant portions of meat and a couple beers to wash it all down with. We found it here! First of all, it is the dead of winter ... 15 degrees with some gusty wind. The entire front of the restaurant has a panel of sliding windows ... it must be wonderful in the summer! Winter, on the other hand, the entire front part of the restaurant feels like a walk in meat locker and the top of the bar feels like ice. The atmosphere other than that is nice ... the restaurant is big and cavernous ... even when crowded, it feels comfortable and open. The food here is good. It's not anything you'd blog about if you had a huge audience. But these days, as prices increase and portion size decreases, its nice to find a place that doesn't seem to cut corners. Its funny to look back at past photos of menus on yelp and see just how fast the prices are rising. If I am through the looking glass where $16-$17 is the norm for a burger and fries, at least I know the quality is good here. We had the grilled chicken sandwich (new to the menu) and the regular old cheeseburger. The french fries are the star of the show ... addictive, perfectly seasoned and homemade. The burger is a double smash burger ... nice brioche bun, good bun to meat ratio, and toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickle) all seemed fresh and tasty. No problems with the burger, although to me it tasted very similar to a Shake Shack burger, which is half the price. The chicken sando ( ... a hidden Shoresy reference?) is perfectly crushworthy, if not a bit vanilla. There was really nothing amazing about this ... it was simply a grilled chicken breast cut in half on a burger bun with lettuce and tomato. Ho-hum. We would not have ordered this again, although there was nothing particularly wrong with it. Our bartender (we ate at the bar) was chipper, cheerful and friendly. She was very helpful in recommending beers and the draft list would make any beer enthusiast happy. Some of the offerings at $14 per pint were a bit crazy ... but they did have some good local beers for $6, which, for a restaurant beer, sadly feels like pre-pandemic normality. Overall, if you want a fancy restaurant with better presentation, certainly there are better options. However, for fill you up, calorie-laden American bar food, it's a winner. The menu seems to change with the sesson, which is good and bad, as many of the dishes which we saw on yelp and wanted were now off the menu. We'll be back. read more

The food was very good, I had a French dip which was delicious and a side salad that I have to say was a pleasant surprise. Most side salads are very limited, some greens and maybe one or two cherry tomatoes. The house dressing was also very tasty. Arrived for 6:30 reservations - Party of 3. Server brought water in three plastic solo cups stating that they were out of glasses. Glasses of water arrived later. We ordered three drinks and the Cheese Board. Sevice was slow throughout the experience. Drinks arrived and shortly after a plate of 6 flatbread crackers arrived. It took 45 minutes for the cheese board to arrive. We ordered entrees while waiting. Cheese board was understated and over priced. We asked for additional crackers when it arrived as we had eaten the first ones to arrive. Entrees included a French Dip, Slamming Salmon Burger and Chicken Milanese. Food in general was over cooked and dry. When my chicken arrived, it was covered in the arugula salad. upon moving this I would find the piece of chicken. Allow me to review. Paper thin chicken not breaded and pan fried as the recipe requires, but grilled instead. Lack of moisture chicken was accompanied by an underdressed arugula salad. The chicken was so dry I had to ask for some kind of "sauce". They offered "homemade" honey mustard - which it was not. At the end of the night, the $142. bill was way over priced. Upon reviewing the bill after leaving I discovered they charged us $3.50 for the extra crackers and .50 cents for the honey mustard. Quite laughable. I called the restaurant to find out what happened, and was told they had run out--but no one contacted me to let me know. When I spoke with the manager, she claimed they "didn't have my number," even though it was printed right on the receipt attached to the order. I've been here before and decided to bring a couple colleagues back. It was just as good as the last time and is definitely going to be a place. I continue to bring my colleagues when they visit from overseas. It's a wonderful restaurant with a great atmosphere. It's especially awesome when they have great weather. It's great to sit next to the open windows and enjoy the fresh air. This visit I went with the salmon burger, which was incredible. Easily the best salmon burger I've ever had. Most salmon burgers seem dry and smashed together. The salmon burger was loosely packed with fresh chunks of salmon. The texture was amazing. My two colleagues decided to go with the fish and chips, which is always a winner. As usual, the service was excellent. I look forward to coming back again in a couple of weeks. read more

Writing this review still in utter disbelief ... as I have never encountered such mistakes at a restaurant before. My family and I walked into Union & Main for lunch on a weekday and complimented how open, modern and beautiful the space was. We ordered 2 coffees, a mac n cheese with mashed potatoes from the kids menu, a beef quesadilla, a New England Clam Chowder and a crab cake. Our coffees arrived shortly, looking very diluted (upon tasting them, I confirm that they were) ... but what's worse was a dark pink, full lipstick stain on the edge of my mug. I was surprised, given we are still undergoing a pandemic, when hygiene and cleanliness are necessary and very much appreciated. I sent it back to the kitchen and our waitress apologized, then I went ahead to tell my other half "it's okay, I'll give them a second chance," although it was pretty unacceptable. We waited a while for our orders, despite the restaurant being pretty empty. Our waitress came by to let us know they don't have mashed potato, which came as a shock to me since many entrees are accompanied by mash, but I asked that it be substituted with broccoli. When our food finally arrived, I noticed that the broccoli on my kids plate looked pretty crispy, almost to the point that they're raw. So I popped one in my mouth ... and they were indeed RAW! The ends of the broccoli also looked untrimmed and several were brownish in color. I sent it back to the kitchen, the waitress was shocked and said it was "so weird," then the broccoli came back undercooked. SMH... As if lipstick stain, no more mashed potato and raw broccoli weren't enough, the food were mediocre at best. The clam chowder was sandy, from overcooked potatoes (I wonder why they didnt save some to make mashed potato?) and tasted nothing like a bowl of creamy, clam chowder. The crab cake also didnt contain much crab. The best thing we ordered was the quesadilla, which tasted decent. The 2 stars I am giving goes to the quesadilla and the service. The staff checked on us a few times and the manager stopped by to ensure we were doing okay, also removing a few items off our tab after learning of our experience. We appreciate it, but highly hope that the restaurant learns from this and improves hereon. While I don't think we will dine here again, I wish this establishment the best of luck. read more

The staff goes above and beyond accommodating guests. I reached out to Erin, the manager, to see if I could make a reservation for 18 of us after my son's high school graduation. Our arrival time needed to be somewhat flexible since there were factors outside of our control. We made it for 9pm, and she assured me that if we were a little later, it would be ok. We just needed to order food before 10pm because that is when the kitchen closes. Our group arrived somewhat staggered. We were given seats in the side room area by the back bar. It was plenty of space for our large group and offered us privacy from the rest of the restaurant. Our food came out quickly. Drinks were made perfectly, and our server EJ flawlessly juggled our many requests and made paying for our meal super easy by separating us different checks ahead of time. I highly recommend using this establishment if you have a private function or if you are looking for a restaurant that can accommodate large groups. Went to Union and Main on a Monday night for trivia, and it was wonderful! The drinks here are fantastic and the food and dessert (Irish cream chocolate chip cheesecake - yum!!) was great! Our waitress Gianna was so friendly and gave great drink and food recommendations. The service we received was amazing and we will definitely be back again. Gianna made us feel welcome and gave us an amazing experience. Overall a great spot to go to. I used to love this restaurant until one day when I went to get my favorite food they had changed the entire menu. This restaurant always had a bunch of people in it it was a fun bar type of restaurant but appropriate for kids. They had amazing food. Wow! This place is awesome. I went on a Monday and there was trivia which was cool. I loved the big open window concept they have in the front and the nice summer vibe it creates. Parking can be a bit tough but there is a parking lot nearby for paid parking. Their cocktails are really good! I'm not big into the alcohol flavor so the ones I ordered--royal blush and taste of paradise--were subtle, not too sweet, and fruity/citrusy. For my entree I had the union burger andddd.... my oh my! It was good! I did replace the fries with a salad since the fries didn't look too good and it was good and made my feel better about the burger. First, I'll get my only critique out of the way which was the grilled onions. I wish they were sliced thinner for a crispy and more caramelized effect instead of the thick chunks it had. But the best part had to be the buttered toasted rolls. Never have I ever been excited about eating the bun but this time I was. The patty was a bit thin and a little too tough to be a true smash burger but still was really good. The cheese was awesome. Located right on Main St (old Red Stripe). Parking can be a bit tricky. They have Valet, but this was a Monday night so didn't appear to be available. Sat at the bar with a friend, served drinks in what seemed to be a minute. Food was delicious...Only complaint was the Calimari. It was mostly tenticals slightly under cooked and salad and waitstaff forgot to provide eating utensils. Wish we knew about fun events before, as we went at 6pm so couldn't stay whole night to play along. I look forward to going again! read more

A friend and I had breakfast here twice and each time it was very good. The portions are on the large side and the presentation is beautiful. We had the Irish Omelett, the Short Rib Poutine, the corned beef hash and one of their sandwiches. The food was really fresh and very well seasoned without being too salty. The bread was great and the pot roast on target but there was Way too much cheese and it was the cheap yellow American cheese. I decide to check out the sister restaurant so my last review of back 40 I want to check out if the other branches of their franchise had the same policy on people with allergies food allergy is that is. Fish Tacos, fried chicken sandwich, etc. The menu has lunch/brunch on one side and drinks on the other. I didn't eat too much of the potatoes because I usually don't start the day with lots of carbs and anything fried. The Meat Lovers Omelette was pretty good: Italian sausage, bacon, ham, banana peppers, and onions, American cheese and Country potato. All and all it was hearty meal. First-time I could finish the plate. Customer service: Good. waitress Gianna seems nice. Welcomed me with a "Happy New Years Eve!". Food: it was ok. I can usually finish a side salad but this case I couldn't. So left with without cleaning any of the plates. Ambience: was busy and seems like it's filled with a lot of locals.
