We chose this place for lunch on our way back to Connecticut after visiting the Providence Zoo. Unfortunately, it's not somewhere we'll likely stop again. Before going, I noticed several reviews mentioning that the food lacked flavor. After eating here, I'd have to agree. We started with the Strawberry Burrata appetizer. The burrata itself was good, but the strawberries tasted like they came from a can or pie filling instead of being fresh. It's the middle of summer, so that was disappointing. The focaccia served with it was fresh, but completely unseasoned and bland. A little olive oil, herbs, or flaky salt would have made a huge difference. For our entrees, we ordered the pasta special with chicken, peppers, and "broccolini" in a garlic sauce, along with the short rib grilled cheese and garlic Parmesan chips. First, the dish didn't contain broccolini--it was regular broccoli. That's not a huge deal, but the menu should be accurate. The penne was undercooked, the red peppers tasted like they came from a can, and the broccoli seemed straight from a frozen bag. The entire dish arrived tasting like it had been reheated in a microwave rather than cooked to order. There were only a couple of other tables in the restaurant, and they had only been open for about an hour, so that was surprising. On top of that, the dish was very bland. The short rib grilled cheese was actually the highlight of the meal. The short rib was tender and flavorful, and the sandwich had a lot of potential. However, the plain focaccia made it a little dry, and it really could have used some type of sauce or spread to bring everything together. The garlic Parmesan chips were stale, bland, and also seemed pre-made. To top it off, the menu clearly advertises that kids eat free all day on Mondays, yet we were charged $8 each for our kids' penne with red sauce. This restaurant has the potential to be really good. The ingredients and menu ideas are there, but the execution falls short. Fresher ingredients, cooking food to order, more seasoning, and a little more creativity would make a world of difference. read more

The place was crowded ... that's for sure. So they must be doing something right. Sadly, not sure what that is as this was as mediocre (if not slightly below mediocre) a restaurant as we have visited in a while. The food ... Probably the least impressive part of our meal was the food. Everything tasted bland and thrown together with no care. The menu has all the typical bar food staples ... nothing really imaginative or special. Including the taste. Seasonings are minimal. We had the grilled chicken Caesar salad ... bland and zero taste other than the lettuce. The best thing I can say about the salad was that the lettuce seemed fresh. The $8 add on chicken was half a chicken breast ... very dry and zero seasoning. No herbs, no salt ... no flavor. It had just been tossed into some kind of panini press and had some weird crusty reaidue on it that didn't look like chicken. The salad dressing was basically white mayonnaise. No lemon, garlic, etc. flavours ... just mayonnaise. It was described as 'house made'. Better to buy bottled, in that case. The pizza was bland too. The cheese had no flavour at all. Not even cheesy ... it was just kind of on the pizza. The crust was like a cracker. The chicken had some onions on it, which was really the only existence of any taste ... the rubbery chicken bits were probably the other half of the panini pressed chicken breast from my Caesar salad. The beer and cocktail list were good with a lot of IPAs, although not as many local names as we expected. The beer was shockingly expensive. A single can of Greater Good IPA was $12. With the tip and tax on that, you could buy a 4-pack at the store. Cocktails ranged between $16 - $18. The food prices as well were in the stratosphere. We just got back from a wedding at Disney World and the restaurant prices here were actually more than the prices of the Disney restaurants! If the food was good, I wouldn't complain about a $25 chicken Caesar salad or $24 burger. A salad with steak tips added would cost almost $35. For average food that didn't taste very fresh ... this isn't a place we'd return to. It's kind of a 'hey brah' vibe at the bar and the 'restaurant' space isn't very big. Most of the tables even in the restaurant are high tops, so be okay with that if you plan to dine there. The best thing I can say about this place is the vibe was cozy and the music was good. One real big red flag was that we watched a staff member drop something on the dirty floor that would be used on the tables by diners ... pick them up and continue to put them on the table. We also watched a food busser empty trash cans and then pick up plates of food and bring them to a table without washing their hands. Otherwise the staff was very personable. read more

When I first moved here I used to love this place. Every time I've gone in the past year the food has been subpar. $$-$$$ This was definitely an upscale pub and restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious! I was there with my daughter and my brother, and we sat outside. Even though it was slightly chilly, they had the heat lamps going for comfort. We were not rushed at all and sat there and chatted and had supper which was really nice. I had the pumpkin bisque as an appetizer and the lobster macaroni and cheese for dinner. I ended up bringing some of my macaroni home for a second meal. It is always nice to be at an establishment that does not rush you through your meal and allows you to enjoy the company of your family and friends without being interrupted. If we are ever in Rhode Island again, we will definitely be visiting this establishment during our visit. Make memories and safe travels! read more

My family and I had an awesome dinner at The Trap! We went on a weeknight and sat on the patio. Love that they have a kids menu. The menu has a ton of great options, it was hard to narrow it down. Service was also friendly and fast. My husband and I both went with pasta dishes. They have homemade pasta from their sister restaurant Pasta Patch. The pastas were delicious. I got the cacio e pepe and my husband got the short rib pasta. Their homemade fancy mozzarella squares were also spot on. We loved their marinara sauce. Got there shortly after opening on a beautiful Sunday and really appreciated the umbrellas over the tables and ability to pick our seats- in a corner so the overly friendly dog didn't trip people. Shared apps only and found the food to be really good- a little pricey but not that much more than anywhere else (and wings were a solid price). Variety of apps was great for our group. Issue was with service- great at first but waitress never came back after taking order. Someone else brought food and then we never saw anyone- no refills on drinks/waters and it took about ten minutes to flag down waitress when we wanted the check to leave. Place was filling up for Pats game but all our beverages were empty for about 30 minutes before we left and it seemed to take forever to get the check. Came here for dinner with a friend and we sat outside. Food was okay, I had a pasta special with some chicken and veg in a garlic sauce. The portion was large, but the veggies were overcooked. My friend got the veal chop parm and it was a huge portion, like the chop was bigger than my head. She said it was good. We shared the shishito peppers which were okay. Had an excellent late lunch. I really enjoyed the fish and chips which I washed down with an ice cold brew. Service was great and efficient. My wife had the grilled cheese with apple. Had the worst experience at the Trap the other night, our wings were not cooked after asking for well done-I had to send the chicken back on my salad as it was also not cooked and rubbery, they brought me a steak but the pan must have been too hot when they seared it as it was completely charred, my salad had so much dressing it was like soup! Then to top it all off we went to use a gift card, and the gift card system was down so we had to actually pay for the horrible food! Definitely a place that pushes the idea that getting drunk is great. So if that's your intent then it's probably a good place. Server asked our 13 YO kids what they wanted to drink and considering that there were no non-alcoholic items listed on the drinks menu we were wondering if she thought they might enjoy a beer. Ambience is trying a bit too hard to be "brew pub" like. Loud music made conversation a challenge. The worst part of our evening was the food. The Fish and "Chips" were actually okay. The fish was fine, the french fries were uninspiring. (Hand cut fries would work great!). The Parpadelle Bolognese was awful. Taste okay (if I'm generous) but presentation careless. A bunch of fresh pasta thrown on a plate with a some sauce on it, heated up in the microwave. All the pasta was stuck together in a lump so that I had to try and pry a ribbon at a time away so I could eat it. The fresh parm on top was a joke. Pizza was "okay." Quinoa Pear salad was dry and sad. Never coming here again. Waste of money. read more

We waited between 45 min to an hour for our main courses. Two other tables came, had their food, and were waiting for their checks while we were waiting for our food. When the food did come, it was cold. I had ordered an apple grilled cheese, and it had very strongly flavored cinnamon applesauce spread heavily, and the sandwich was cold. It was not good at all. The other members of our party said their food was ok. While we were waiting for our food it seemed that the waitress was avoiding us. A manager came and said our food would be out in 3-4 minutes, there was food but one order was wrong. We had our granddaughter with us, so we were not unpleasant in the least. Beautiful Sunday afternoon in mid-October lunch at The Trap sounded like a good idea. We have been no less than ten times and have consistently had decent food and drink. The Patriots were playing and a charity was having a post-race gathering. The staff were completely overwhelmed. We waited twenty minutes before a waitress came to take a drink order. She returned with the wrong drink for me. We did not see her again for another ten minutes. A manager stopped by to check on us and got me the correct drink. We finally ordered the food. No exaggeration, one hour later, the appetizer and lunch entree arrived. The young waitress stopped by and apologized for the delay reporting that "the kitchen is backed up." I was so excited to try this place out for Wing Wednesday. 35 cents wings?! You can't beat that! My husband and I ended up ordering the garlic parm, naked, and buffalo wings! Our first time here and we wondered why we took so long to get here. We started with the Shirt Rib Potato Trap. This is not your ordinary potato skins. It's potato cup filled with ooey gooey goodness. Braised short rib, beer and cheese sauce topped with Gorgonzola. OMG - I'll never go back to normal tater skins. The green apple, prosciutto and fig on ciabatta bread, grilled and brought to perfection with the drizzled balsamic reduction was nothing I'd ever tasted. The portion size is good enough for two. We've eaten here many times and had mostly good experiences, but had a bad one last weekend. Ate outside on Sunday. Our server seemed like she did not want to be there. Took forever to get her to come over and take our orders. Then she proceeded to sit at a table inside with other waitstaff and another guy and ignored us. There were 2 people outside but they also ignored us (probably because we weren't their assigned table). We had to get up several times to chase drink refills and to fix order mistakes. My wife had a wrap with bacon that was essentially raw/barely cooked. My son's chicken tenders were barely edible from being over cooked. We were a group of six. First time here. Plenty of parking. Came on the Monday all you can eat pasta nigh, which was so abundant in the first serving, no one could order more. My selection was Martucci Alla Claire, garlic chicken, broccoli, roasted red peppers, in a Pecorino and Romano garlic sauce. The pasta selection was Cresto de Gallo. This was a pasta I had never tried before. Except that it was cooked a tad more than I would have liked, although I didn't request it cooked any particular way ( my fault) it was delicious. The garlic, cheese sauce had the just the right amount of garlic for my taste and I love garlic. Everyone enjoyed their pasta selection. All but one got pasta. We also enjoyed salads and calamari. I can only tell you about the calamari as I didn't have salad, but all that did, said, salads were good. The calamari had a great flavor, spicy, and the peppers, hot and banana were very tasty. They also have a great menu selection besides the pasta. I also loved the fact that they had a few outdoor fireplaces with chairs, tables and rockers to enjoy outside time. Loved it! Came here with some friends for Monday night all you can eat pasta night and was not disappointed. The restaurant itself is lovely and it has an outdoor fireplace and skating rink. You can bring your dogs there and sit outside and have a drink in the good weather. Inside is very cute and the service is excellent. We had the all you can eat pasta and there were about 6 choices of homemade pasta. It was pretty difficult to decide but I stuck with the fusilli with meatballs. They came with the marinara sauce and usually I have to ask for extra but I didn't here. We also had the calamari which was a generous portion and had a lot of hot peppers so make sure you like spicy. I thought it was delicious. We also tried pasta with chicken and it was very good as well. Although it was all you can eat pasta the initial bowl that they served to me was enough for dinner and included two very large meat balls.
