Union Square Donuts arrives closer to home! They have a location in Somerville and one in the Boston Public Market and now they're in Brookline (yay!). Some of the best donuts I've ever had. Always fresh, never greasy/oily, light and fluffy. They have so many flavors, maybe like 10-15 in a day. The hazelnut one is my favorite - you can't go wrong. The Vietnamese coffee donut is tasty too. They also make donut holes. Usually there's one flavor per day. The last time around I had the raspberry chocolate donut holes, tart but sweet, a nice balance of flavors. They also have vegan donuts, sometimes even 3 flavors. They serve coffee too but can't talk about it since I've never had any. Getting there early is always a good bet. There's a chance they may run out. But I've swung by in the hour before they close and they always have at least a few flavors still, and it'll be delicious! Street parking is available. I got the Sea Salted Bourbon Caramel, which was heavy on the salt and bourbon flavors - good if you like that! I wasn't so much a fan of the flavor itself (bad choice on my part knowing I should have tried something different), but I was quite impressed by the donut itself. Loving this donut shop! Went on a Sunday afternoon for a sweet treat and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste of this donut. I got the Belgian chocolate donut - I'm a sucker for anything chocolate. Wish I came earlier in the day though because some of the options were already gone! I love a good local gourmet donut. Union Square was pretty good, but could have been more. I got the sea salt bourbon caramel donut, and my boyfriend got the maple bacon. One review said it was way too much salt, but I honestly forgot there was supposed to be any salt until I was halfway through the donut, I would definitely have liked more salt. (even considered adding my own, but decided to eat it as is) Next time, I would try the brown butter hazelnut crunch donut which seems to be popular here on yelp - and you cant go wrong with brown butter. This location is in the main shopping district of Brookline and easily accessible. I ordered the brown butter hazelnut crunch ($3.50), the Apple crisp ($3.50), and the fluffernutter ($3). All three doughnuts were yeast/raised. The brown butter hazelnut crunch seems to be one of the most popular items on the menu, and I can see why. The dough itself is very fluffy and soft, and the hazelnut chunks gives it a nice crunch. Its also worth noting that this doughnut is huge. The Apple crisp, which is one of the fall specials, was good but lacked real apple flavor and fell kind of flat. There were also chunks of crisp on top that were too hard to chew and tasted kind of stale. The fluffernutter, which was the doughnut of the day, was different than any other doughnut I've had. The inside was filled with a light peanut butter cream, and it was topped with a marshmallow fluff and peanut pieces. Having never had a fluffernutter sandwich before, I really enjoyed this one. I went at around 11 am, and the doughnuts were still warm. They don't have a credit card minimum here, which is great, and there's plenty of seating (indoors and outdoors).
