I am really rooting for this restaurant! Very friendly staff, very modest decor, and some excellent smoked barbecued pork. The red velvet muffin, baked in house, was also delicious. Neat little breakfast/lunch place located near the Oval. The Union Street Grill is a hometown country restaurant/cafe which is nicely decorated with antiques & pictures and serves up the typical breakfast favorites including eggs, omelettes pancakes, TX style French toast, breakfast sandwiches, homefries, hash, muffins, and sides. Lunch items offered include sandwiches, burgers, salads, and soups. A kids menu is offered. Green Mountain Coffee is brewed here. The prices here are reasonable. It's seat yourself with seating at the lunch counter and table seating. The cooking/grill area is behind the counter. I stopped in here for a quick weekend breakfast recently. I needed some caffeine! The place was fairly busy, so I took a seat at the lunch counter. The service staff were younger and the owner was doing the cooking and grilling and bringing out food. I was offered coffee as I sat down. The Green Mountain Coffee was very good and strong. I wasn't overly hungry, so I decided to keep it simple and ordered an English Sandwich ($3.49) with sausage patty, egg, and cheese on a crispy English muffin, which was just enough food for me. I would definitely order a full breakfast next time since the omelets and homefries the other diners were having looked pretty good. The service was good and prompt. I was offered a refill on the coffee, which is the main reason I stopped in. When the crowds dissapated, the owner was talking with his regular customers and thanked me for coming in. Check out the wall in the back corner which has a classic Norman Rockwell print of a police officer and a boy having a meal at the diner lunch counter and a very cool reenactment photo done here at the Union Street Grill. The most expensive bad breakfast I've ever had. The potatoes were undercooked and cold. I don't eat meat, so I asked if I could exchange the meat for hash browns. The waitress said I'd still have to pay for the potatoes, even though I didn't want the meat. My husband and I both had the pancake breakfast with a side of hash browns, and the bill was almost $50 including the tip. read more

Utterly delicious, affordable breakfast with a unique menu in a charming local eatery! Food Highly recommend the crock!!!! It's a giant pot of chopped potatoes, green peppers, onions, a mild cheddar cheese melted talked with eggs cooked any style you want. I absolutely adored the special crock for $10 with spicy beef sausage. The muffins are also to die for! Highly recommend asking them to cut it in half for you with some butter on top. The pumpkin was stellar, but all of them smelt delicious. Peaches and pecan waffles were pretty good, but I wish it had homemade whipped cream on top instead of Cool Whip. And cakes for giant, so I recommend people but the smaller appetite only ordered one. The bacon is thick & crispy. Service/accessibility Unfortunately, they don't offer outdoor seating in the indoor seating is up a large step, so it is not wheelchair accessible. For this reason, I read it this place for instead of five stars. I didn't check out the bathroom. Food came out quickly and the service was great until it came time to get the check. Very small, neighborhood cafe just off the oval. Nothing special. Food isn't special. Service isn't special. Decor, ambiance, and layout isn't special. The bathroom is between the bread rack and the grill. I've been to other small restaurants that knock you out with amazing food - like Northeast Cafe in New Boston. Not this place. It's not a horrible place but doesn't have much room for improvement either. They have added outside seating. But inside is small and looks like no improvements have been made in any meaningful way in many years. One improvement would be telling the annoying guy behind the grill to shut up. He's one of those guys who thinks he's funny and part of the experience. But he's not at all funny or personable and he just won't shut up. When I go to a place with my wife, I want to talk to her and not listen to some loud-mouthed jackass. The food doesnt really stack up to the other offerings on the oval. The only reason we ate here is because the line was too long at Riverhouse Cafe. We'll either wait in line next time or choose a different place. read more

One of the few places worth stopping for breakfast or lunch in a town full of greasy spoon diners. Located just off the oval in downtown Milford, NH Union Street Grill is easy to get to and easy to remember. The Union Street Grill has been in business for roughly 10 years. They offer a variety of standard and special options for breakfast and lunch, Their breakfast sandwiches are top notch in my opinion, when I worked for the town I would stop twice a week for a breakfast sandwich. Lunch options are a great variety and within the working mans budget. Love there Bison burger, menu changes regularly for lunch based on the specials so it is hard to keep a regular item for selection but the variety is nice too. Very quaint country atmosphere, family owned and operated and everyone who works here is always happy to see you come. Would recommend for lunch or breakfast, location is small and seating and parking is limited so I would recommend coming early or late. read more

I was a regular at Union Street when I lived close by (about 10 years ago). I tried Union Street again today for the first time in a decade. The food is at least as good as ever, if not better. I enjoyed a truly unique omelette from the specials board which featured apple-sweetened chicken sausage, red peppers, and onions. SO delicious! I was also impressed at the total lack of fuss when I asked for a side order of fruit instead of the usual toast and home fries and was presented with a lovely cup of sliced apples, pineapple, and grapes (no extra charge). I have to make special mention of the decor. So many diners go overboard with "vintage" decor that is actually only a modern reproduction of original pieces from the 40s and 50s (think WW2 or Elvis-themed pieces). Other eateries feature "hollie hobbie"/rustic/shabby chic decor that just ends up looking cheap, forced, and overdone. But Union Street manages to avoid this problem, featuring an unfussy, slightly rumpled down-home feel that just puts you at ease. But it really comes back to the people and the food. When I walked in for brunch this morning with a friend, Kevin (the proprietor and one of the chefs) remembered me by name, with a smile, after ten years -- I was shocked! The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. My friend and I settled in for a wonderful meal and lingered for two hours, catching up; we left just five minutes before closing, but never felt the slightest amount of pressure to hurry it up. If you're of the uppity persuasion and frequently worry about spilling your $6 Starbucks coffee in your late model European automobile that the bank actually owns, then this might not be the place for you. I've driven by the Union Grill countless times, it's directly adjacent to the Milford Oval, but after years Alex and I finally stopped in for brunch today. First off, we approached the front door to find that it closed at 12:30 on Sunday not 2 as we had thought - it was 12:05. I hate being those people who cruise in last minute, but we saw a couple of diners still inside and figured that breakfast should be relatively quick. Inside is a small cozy very New England dining area staffed by the owner, 2 daughters and at least one son. They were all exceptionally friendly, welcoming and full of feisty badinage. They continued to be great throughout the experience, never rushing us, or demonstrating any impatience whatsoever. From a service and decor standpoint the Grill already had impressed me, the food could be merely ok and it still would have been a superior experience. Alex ordered a special Eggs benedict w sun dried tomato hollandaise sauce that was perfectly prepared and tasted amazing. The home fries in particular worked very well w the sauce. I ordered a "crock" special, sausage, chess and veggies with 2 eggs on top. It was a ton of food and it was amazing. The crocks appear to be a special of the Grill, several other reviewers mentioned them and they did not disappoint. There are an excessive amount of breakfast options in Milford (5 just around the Oval) but the Union Grill stands out as the superior choice and is 100% worth your time and money. read more
