I am writing this review for Unique Air Duct Cleaning. I saw a lot of reviews saying this was a bait and switch, but that was not my experience. Yes, the mailer says $55 for whole duct cleaning and $65 for the gold package, but when I called to schedule the appointment the receptionist was extremely nice and explained all the pricing and packages. It is $55 for a basic cleaning where they hook up a commercial shop vac to your return and suck out everything they can. If you want a deep cleaning, which involves putting a hose down each one of your vents, it costs ($199 for 8-10 vents and $299 for 15 vents. If you get your entire house done (please note you probably don't need upstairs vents done because they are in the ceiling and very little gets trapped up there) it will cost much more because it is $15 for each additional vent (they charge $299 for 15 vents). I really appreciated them explaining all of this over the phone so I was not surprised. The couple that came to my house (Christian and his wife) were AWESOME! They wore masks and put shoe covers on their feet before coming in the house. They looked at everything and went over the pricing again, provided a free inspection of my furnace and then recommended a package. I needed my dryer vent cleaned and Chris explained he would only charge me if he was able to clean it. Man am I glad he did, there was a birds nest trapped in there! He was able to get the nest and a bunch of lint out using tubes, a couple brushes and a blower. He and his wife were a great team, and they cleaned everything up when they were done. He was very thorough and showed me videos of every vent he cleaned, they added a deodorizer for free that smells nice. Everything was very professional. I only gave 4 stars vs. 5 because it is a little pricey (I paid a little under $400 with a military discount) but looking online this is the industry standard for deep vent cleaning so I am happy with the service I received. I contacted this business based upon a flyer for air duct and vent cleaning I received in the mail. I did not go with the flyer promotion because it did not provide the service I was looking for. I opted to schedule an appointment for a larger service that I thought would meet my needs. My appointment window was from 10-2. The technician phoned me after 2:30 to inform me that he was on his way, BUT an hour away. First impression, set the tone for the appointment. I did not use this business because the price that was quoted over the phone changed the moment the technician arrived at my door. He apparently was in a hurry to end his day because he was not interested in trying to understand the discrepancy of the services to be rendered and the price quoted. He had the audacity to suggest that I reschedule when the office and I could agree upon a price. The PRICE was already established when the appointment was made. While the company came and claimed to have cleaned our ducts and install a UV light, there was no verification of the cleanliness of the ducts when requested. This is NOT an honest company, they installed a faulty UV light in our duct system that we had inspectors come and check that wasn't working. They keep giving us the runaround on coming back to exchange it and they haven't as yet even though it's under a lifetime warranty. Worst of all their customer service is atrocious. The lady we spoke to had such a nasty attitude, asked us to call back, then refused to answer the phone when we called back. When we finally got a hold of her again she had a terrible attitude asking "what do you want us to do about it?" essentially implying it's our issue now and we have to deal with it then hung up the phone. The tech shows up and the first thing he does is look at the blower motor and fan blades... low and behold they need cleaning... Twice the kind representative was able to schedule me in last minute for emergency appointments once when my heat stopped working in below zero weather they arrived early morning to fix my heat so my kids wouldn't have to get out of bed in the cold and once recently in the heat of this summer when the ac stopped working they were able to come right away to fix the issue in a jiffy so everyone could go to sleep cool that night, they truly saved the day! We used this company, as others, we saw a coupon in ValPack. When I presented the coupon the day of the cleaning, they told me no, they can't use it because my "package deal" was different. What was supposed to be $200 turned into $1400 dollars. In small print they say if you turn them away when they get there, you still have to pay a fee. Now I understand why, they showed up in a van with a shop vac. Not the same equipment that others use for duct cleaning, and of course, they found that my two HVAC fans needed to be cleaned, CHA-CHING, another $1200 for that. Such a rip off. My dryer stopped working and the appliance technician recommended that I check my dryer vent because it was completely clogged again, it's an older dryer and the lint was building up faster then it should been to our dryer vent creating a major clog to the point it was overheating. I called this company today about a scheduling an air duct cleaning. They put me on hold as soon as they picked up. Ok, perhaps it's a busy time of day; I'm ok with the long wait time. I get it. But then when the receptionist returned to the line she proceeded to act incredibly rude about me asking if there were hiding fees for the air duct and dryer vent cleaning they advertise in the mail. (I'll attach a pic of their ad.) She told me the "free" dryer vent cleaning that comes with the air duct cleaning only includes up to 4 ft of line. Ok, again, I'm actually fine with that if it's their policy. That's why I asked for specifics of their advertised "special." So since I only need my dryer vent cleaned I asked how much that alone would roughly run. This is when she got more short-tempered and clearly annoyed by my reasonable question!! We are military family with a and capped income that we BUDGET responsibly with. Asking for an estimated price and wanted to know up front roughly what it will cost is completely normal and fair to ask a service company! Anyway, I asked about getting an estimate and she curtly informed me it was a free estimate if I agreed to have them do the job. But if they provided me with an estimate and I didn't agree to the terms and cost THAT DAY then it would cost me $40 for just the visit for the estimate. So I said "no thanks, I don't think I'll schedule at this time" (that's over my budget honestly) and she rudely said "BYE!" and hung up the phone. There were two guys - one of them went right to work and the other looked around at everything and came to me and started telling me all that needed doing. A few attempts at upsell for cleaning other aspects of the furnaces - but that's to be expected. Since we have 2 furnaces, they charged us $69 for each. On Friday morning-the day after Thanksgiving, David and another worker arrived at my home around 9:20 a.m. for a 10-2 appointment. I'm thinking -great! I had one of those $79 coupons-and I really thought I was in luck. I needed the vents in my home cleaned-to include the dryer vent. It was the dryer vent that I was most concerned about-I was told my clothes aren't drying fast enough because the dryer vent needs to be cleaned. Fast forward-all that happened was -David opened the furnace-told me it was "very dirty." The other guy was upstairs-vacuuming vents. David then had me fill out the paperwork. I think this is when the upsell started. He told me that the furnace needed a blower cleaning and coil cleaning to the tune of $170 and that the return vents were $45 each and I have about 4 of these. David then pulled my stackable unit out -to try to clean the dryer vent from the inside. He started the dryer-apparently- and began to look for the dryer vent (there are 3 dryers in the house) that went with that dryer. He didn't tell me what he was doing. HE DIDN'T MOVE THE DRYER BACK IN PLACE, However. The other guy asked me "do you know where David is?" I told him that I thought I caught a glimpse of him outside my bedroom door. Apparently David had gone outside looking for a dryer vent-the one that went with the dryer he started. Unbeknownst to me, David opened TWO (2) safety gates outside-and left them OPEN and AJAR. As you can think ahead and realize that people have GATES for a reason. Namely-the 55 pound lab/greyhound mix who lives with us. After he asked, I showed David where the dryer vent was, he determined that he would clean it from the outside (5 feet)-because he couldn't move the stackable unit to clean it 5 feet on the inside. He told me that I needed to get a dryer vent cleaning on the inside and outside-25 feet-to the tune of $299. I told him that these prices sounded high-and he said "my company is one of the more expensive ones." So-you know I told him to just clean the 5 feet of dryer vent (big scam)-from the outside-so he didn't even push anything out that's blocking the vent from the inside. In any event-they seemed upset that I wasn't going with the $700 package. They stomped around-were very ungraceful-and not even nice. They left. About 30 minutes later I let the dog out into the backyard. About 30 minutes later my daughter went out -and came back in screaming-"mom-Athena was outside-standing in the driveway-looking at the street." Athena is that 55 pound- TWO (2) year old dog-forgot to say she's 2-and a runner. She runs like the wind. Once it took 4 men 45 minutes to capture her in an enclosed yard. She was boarded and they let her out (in an enclosed space)-and they quickly realized they would have to sit it out-until she stopped running. My 12 year old's quick thinking-she lured her over with some cat food-averted a real tragedy. So-all I have to say is this-1) the washer/dryer unit is still sticking out-and I can't close the door to the closet it's in. It requires 2 men to do this-and I'm a disabled woman-5 spine surgeries, 2 hip surgeries and a total knee replacement; 2) the dryer doesn't work any better-of course-because it only got 5 feet of cleaning-what a scam-why would you even bother?; 3) two (2) gates were left open-and my dog got out of her double-gated enclosure; and 4) the cost according to these Unique clowns is over $700 to service the furnace, the return vents, and the dryer vents; 5) basically I paid $79-the cost of a service visit-so that I could have my vents vacuumed. That's all that was accomplished-and I'm left in a worse situation-with the washer/dryer unit-sticking out. I would tell you to RUN-do not let these clowns in your house. They are there to perform a service call-not to perform any service -or do any job-save vacuuming the vents (which I think I can do with my vacuum cleaner's tools). They are disingenuous -and I will go with another company to clean the furnace, return vents-and of course-my dryer vents- and I suggest you do too. read more

One of the worst experience I've ever had with a vendor at my house. First, I received a coupon for the air duct cleaning w/ the dryer vent cleaning. I chose the $79 cleaning which came with an A/C and furnace assessment. I was informed by a really nice customer service rep when making my appointment that the technician would only clean the main vent (no biggy my house is old and I'm only pay $80) and he would clean the dryer vent, check my A/C unit, etc. However, when the technician arrived he was very rude and aggressive. He had the workers going to each room doing mediocre "vacuuming" in my vents. He kept making offensive comments regarding my home and was unprofessional which Im guessing is his idea of an assessment. To make matters worse, their idea of "dry vent cleaning" was running a vacuum inside my dryer and lent trap. Im not sure where they get dry vent cleaning from but Im pretty sure thats not it. He was argumentative and aggressive with me and my husband on the service that we were told we would be receiving. After about 15 mins of enduring such harsh treatment, I dismissed him. So we called this company for an air duct cleaning and dryer vent cleaning. First they show up an hour an a half late with no phone call letting is know when they would be coming. When they cam into our house one of the guys asked where our furnace was so we took him down to the basement and he asked us when the last time we had our ducts cleaned as we are renting we weren't sure. He then looks inside the furnace and take a picture with his phone and says "look at this it's all mold" (the so called mold in the picture look to be just dust but what do I know right because I'm not a mold specialist but apparently he is) and then tells us that "cleaning your ducts today wont do anything until you have the mold cleaned out" then he says that he can do that today for $1700. And when we tell him no we dont have the money for that today, he tells us that he has to do the duct cleaning because he already has the machine out ( and remember that was after he told us that it wouldn't help because of the "mold") so they go ahead and run the vacuum that's hooked up to the ducts for about 3 to 5 minutes pack up and leave and never even looked at the dryer vent. This was a scam these guys have no clue what they are doing and are just trying to take your money. The reason we went with this company was because of a coupon we recieved in the mail. Just a heads up if your going to hire anyone to do any work at your house make sure the company does just hire anyone off the street. UPDATE: I have since been contacted by their Customer Service department (Sunday, 8/5) who offered to send a crew back to redo the job and also offered a refund. I accepted the refund but did not see the need to have a crew come back to my house. This company is the most DISHONEST company I have ever dealt with! We got a coupon in the mail for duct cleaning, dryer vent cleaning, bathroom fan cleaning, and a unit check-up for $79. We scheduled this service for 8/2. The technician, Nick, called ahead and arrived when he said he would. He cleaned our ducts (and left tape residue on my ceiling where he hooked up his machine), and found one register (not the duct) that had mold on it, from condensation/dust buildup. He immediately stopped cleaning and told my wife (I was not home at the time) we needed to have all our ducts treated for mold or it would be growing in our walls and everyone's health would be at risk. She thanked him for the information and said we would have it checked out, but would not pay him $1,400 do to it that day. His demeanor immediately changed and he became very unprofessional, which made my wife uncomfortable the rest of the time he was there. He disconnected our dryer but did not clean the duct. He wanted to replace the flexible hose coming from our dryer instead (for another $50 - we didn't do that either). After not cleaning or replacing the hose, he pushed our dryer back to its spot and said the hose was left disconnected because it was "broken" (it's not). When I got home from work and looked at our system, expecting every square inch of duct to be covered in mold based on what he told my wife, I found one sticker in the unit with a spot of mold, and some on the registers, which I have since replaced on my own. It is clear, especially with the technician's change in attitude when we refused the additional services, that this coupon is nothing more than a way to get in your house and find/manufacture as many additional "problems" as they can to do work they actually make money on. I can't help but wonder how much money this company has made my scaring people into hiring them for services they don't need. I had my air ducts cleaned for 2 separate HVAC systems which included checking my HVACs. When the job was almost complete, the lead technician informed me that my upstairs HVAC had mold and it needed to be cleaned along with sanitizing the air ducts. He texted me a picture of the mold in my HVAC. Upon completion of the air ducts cleaning, he asked me if I would like the mold removed and air ducts sanitized. I told him that I would be getting estimates from other companies. Well, today another company inspected my HVAC (and this time I wanted to see for myself and not via a picture from a text message). There was no mold or any evidence of mold nor does the inside of the HVAC look like the picture that the technician sent me. I checked the inside of the downstairs HVAC too...nope, doesn't look like the picture. So the lack of integrity of the technician has put a negative light on this company. This business is a total scam. Called them with a coupon in July. We fell for their gimmicks of telling us how unhealthy our home was. Before I had a chance to look them up and see if they were licensed (which they said they were) my husband had agreed for them to do some work. What they claimed would take 3 to 4 hours ended up taking less than 2 hours and they handed him a $2700 plus bill. As soon as I got home I confronted them in the driveway and they agreed to give us the $600 UVA light for free! Oh my this was the smartest house 'investment' that I ever made! Solomon the Serviceman came out on a sunday to check my dryer vent, heating and cooling systems and he did an outstanding job. He showed me the mold that was growing throughout all of my a/c vents which now accounts for the asthma breathing events that I have been recently experiencing! My dryer was taking forever and I called these guys after seeing their coupon. Once they told me would take 2 guys with heavy equipment 1.5 hours to do the job, I figured the upsell had to be coming, and indeed I was shown evidence of bacteria from a mold test and a quote for a whole lot more than the coupon. But from other reviews elsewhere, and some additional research, as far as I can tell I was treated fairly. They certainly seemed to be thorough in cleaning everything and when they left there was no mess. My deep cleaning entitles me to have them come back twice a year just for a $39 trip charge for 5 years. The dryer now works much better, and if there was mold I'm sure glad to have found and treated it. read more
