I stopped in to find out about getting my brakes done. He gave me a quote of $199 per axel. I thought that was fair. There was not wait time to get my car in, but I had an issue of getting a rental car. He said they have them ONSITE and at no additional charge. Now, I am not sure if that is for everyone, or just a cute local girl. I was getting some stuff done next door at Charlies and would like to drop it off the same day to get everything done at once. He said that would be perfectly fine. They completed the brakes and also did an oil change at my request. It was done in roughly 2 hours. I have had my car back for a few months with no issues. There was no additional fee's and I paid exactly what I was told. I would hate for this place to get a bad rap because little Miss "I can't do Math" and I like to write books on Yelp has a bone to pick. I would definitely do business with them in the future just for the rental car alone. read more

I am amazed that Unique doesn't have more reviews here and that the one that is here is a 1-star. My family has been taking our cars to Unique for over twenty years. We have had all of our service on the six cars that we've owned in that time done by Unique. We are people that hold onto our cars until they're nearly dead, so having an auto care professional that will be cognizant of that and honest about when the investment into an older car may not be wise is important. Two of our Toyotas made it to 250,000 with Unique's maintenance and repair. Mike and his crew have always been very reasonable in price. Routine maintenance there vs. the dealership is not even comparable. We gave up on servicing our new cars at the dealerships early on when we realized that they overcharge significantly. The Unique crew goes out of their way to keep repair costs low and will find good used parts as an alternative to new parts when possible and with our approval. Mike will always get me in at a moment's notice when there's a problem. I've even called him from out of state to ask about car issues. They've driven me home when I didn't have a ride. They've let me borrow a car while they were repairing mine. They've stayed late for us. On the few occasions that the repair did not seem to completely fix the problem, they've brought it right back and completed it either at no charge or for just the price of parts. There are some jobs they don't do like alignments and have even taken our cars to Firestone for an alignment if they were doing related services. They do great with hybrids too; our two new Prius's have had all their service here. I have always felt that auto repair places could take advantage of customers with no experience in auto repair. But I have always felt that Mike is completely honest and invested in completing the job perfectly and at as low a cost as possible. I would recommend this place without hesitation. I feel fortunate that I live in the same town, but I truly feel that their service is worth driving for! read more

I am the proud owner of a 1988 Porsche 911 with a 3.2 liter h-6, which is an incredibly difficult motor, after months of research I found three people Qualified to work on such a car, I interviewed all 3 people several times at length, price was not the issue, although mike was right in the middle, knowledge was everything key to success I just couldn't trust a $50,000 classic Porsche to anyone, it had to be a European craftsman, someone who would be passionate about the job ahead, it was a massive restoration with many unforeseen issues ahead, nothing found in a book could prepare anyone to restore and rebuild a complex motor such as this, it would have to come from the heart, from passion, from the trill of perfection that only years of knowledge could provide. After 8 weeks of polishing, grinding, replacing worn and broken parts, refurbishing valves, pistons, timing chain, clutches ,flywheels hoses, belts, oil returns, painting, this motor looks like it just came out of the factory, right from Germany, the motor sounds like something out of a James Bond movie. in its day this car was 0-60 in 5.6 and 156 top end from the factory with the restoration from unique auto am sure to do even better, so with that said we were done on time and under budget, far exceeding my expectation's. so if your driving a Porsche this is the only place to go here in New England. Worst auto repair experience ever, very unprofessional! I brought my 2003 nissan maxima in because of a rattling pre-cat (also part of the manifold on these cars), that made a noise as the engine revved down to idle. Went to pick up the car after the service was done to find that the noise was still there! After a quick peek underneath the car I noticed a nice shiny brand new catalytic converter under the middle of the car. They randomly replaced that instead of the pre-cat manifold on the engine bank 2 (which anyone with a set of ears could have figured out was where the noise was coming from). So I leave the car there over the weekend to put the old catalytic converter back and replace the correct part. When the car was finished I started it up and immediately noticed the exhaust being much louder than it previously was and sounded like a hole somewhere. Once again I look under the car, this time to see gray exhaust putty smeared ALL OVER my exhaust, including on the flanges and in between the gaskets. Completely unprofessional! I had to leave the car there another day for them to clean up the putty, use the correct gaskets, and do the job right. Unbelievable. So in light of my bad experience, they gave me a $150 credit towards my next service. Fast forward 3 months later, a rusty exhaust pipe right before the muffler fails and now has a hole in it. Although skeptical I go back to Unique Foreign Auto to use my credit and get a new pipe welded in. This time they performed the work correctly but charged me an extra $51 on top of the $150 for a job that should've costed at most $100. Everything should be all set now right? Wrong. I go start up my car, get ready to leave, and some guy from the shop knocks on my window and says for me to open my trunk so he can get his kids car seat out! I am so caught off guard I didn't know how to react. So, I opened the trunk thinking maybe he got locked out of the shop last night and had to leave the car seat somewhere. NOPE. I look at my gas gauge and see that it is now below E! It didn't have a lot when I brought it in but definitely was more than that! I'm pissed now. I look at the service receipt to see that not only did someone take my car (before it was fixed) home for the night and use as their personal car, not put any gas in it and hope that I wouldn't notice, but then they doctored the mileage on the report to show mileage in as the same as mileage out. Not only that but my car is a manual and has leather seats. 1. I don't know how good or bad of a driver this guy is with a manual, or how hard he drives. I'm very particular about my car and never beat on it. 2. I don't ever want a car seat on my god damn leather seats! What a bunch of lying, unprofessional, scumbag mechanics! What person in their right mind thinks that any car at a repair shop can be used as their personal taxi cab. Called to discuss a front end alignment problem, described shaking, dropped off the vehicle. Then later added that could be a caliper problem(not releasing). I got a phone quote for 750-800 range. The bill was 1160 upon pickup that Friday night. There was no call or notification. A discussion ensued and after 20 minutes of arguing the owner Mike would only agree to credit $60. Mike, the owner, did agree(more than once) that it was unethical to do this, but complained that he only charged 200 for labor and he could not tolerate make nothing on the job even though he agreed he should really eat the difference between the quoted figure and the actual. This is a 2000 BMW with 210,000 miles. Each purchasing decision that is made on this car, is evaluated against the logic of investment. The bill was close to 50% over the price of the quote. Upon researching on-line available parts that were installed in the vehicle, it was discovered that of the approximate $900 in parts, Unique Foreign Auto charged between 2 and 3 times the average cost of the appropriate available on line retail parts. The calipers that were installed in the car were refurbished, not new. The price on the on-line vendor was for NEW parts. After driving that car home there was a very noticeable veer to the right of the front end. This WAS NOT A SYMPTOM before the car was serviced at Unique Foreign Auto in Wilmington, MA. It is obvious that no test drive had been done on the service work. We called and returned the vehicle to the shop on Monday morning. The vehicle was not driven over the weekend except to get gas. The car was examined and 2 tires were switched around. The problem persisted and we were told that their alignment machine was "broken". Scott told me to take the car to Firestone for an alignment at our cost. Scott said that the alignment problem had nothing to do with the service work on the car. As suggested we took the car to Firestone up the street from the Unique Foreign Auto. Firestone did not have the proper tools to align the car and sent us to BMW. The gentleman from Firestone told me that he was fairly confident that Unique Foreign Auto did not have an alignment machine. so why would they service a car whose primary symptom was misalignment???humm read more

STAY AWAY. I brought my BMW to Unique to have fixed and literally everything they touched was either worse or broke within a week. I had valve gaskets replaced and the car continued to leak oil. I brought the car back to give them a chance to do the right thing, only to be laughed at and told that the rear main seal needed to be replaced (a 2k job). There was no way I was letting them gouge me for unnecessary repairs. I brought the car to a trusted mechanic to find out that the gasket was folded onto itself casing the leak and was visibly noticeable (of course it must have been the rear main seal). They also fixed a broken window motor. Except when I picked up the car, the door handle no longer opened the door. When brought to their attention, they said it was broken when I brought it in. Three weeks later, the window stopped working. To top it off, my car overheated and needed a new water pump. They changed the water pump but the same day the car continued to overheat. I called them and they said it was air bubbles and to top it off. After a week or so of topping of the coolant, I brought it back to them. They found a hairline crack on the top of the radiator on a plastic hose adapter and recommended that I buy a new radiator. The radiator was fine before they leaned on the top of it to change the water pump. It is amazing that this company is still in business and I would sooner bring my car to my kids nursery school to be fixed. read more
