Which is perfect because there isn't a designated waiting area - so arrive a minute or two before your service begins. As for the service, my masseuse skillfully kneaded knots out of body, leaving me ripe for a nap. I was then transitioned to the head spa portion of my service. You lay in a comfy massage chair while your scalp gets squeaky clean with products that smell amazing. However, please note that detangling is not included in the service. So, if you have a lot of coily hair like me, bring your own detangling products and tools for styling segment. After the wash you're given the option of a regular blow dry or blowout. The blowout is equivalent to a silk press. I opted for the blowout and left with my hair falling off the bone. The blowout is extra, but so worth it! What usually takes 7 hours at the Dominican salon, took less than an hour here with less heat damage It is now day 3, and my hair is still pressed and has a beautiful shine. Truthfully, I was not expecting my hair to be laid as it was, but my expectations were exceeded. This may very well be where I get my silk presses moving forward. After going back and forth, she became flustered, said she needed to contact the manager, and promised to call me back. I never received a call. It is not about the extra it is about the principle and the lack of transparency. My best friend and I tipped both massage therapists well, so being overcharged and then ignored afterward felt extremely dishonest. Please review every charge carefully before paying.

I thought I had been taken in by bots on the internet claiming the place was great. I emailed. I texted. Apparently there is a floor "12A," the button for which I could not see in the crowded elevator. (This is probably a very old NYC building, where sometimes the 13th floor was not labeled as such because of the superstition behind #13 being unlucky.) (12A wasn'tg any luckier for me, sorry to say.) Finally found it, and another customer came right behind me. Receptionist was on the phone. No one to greet you otherwise. Customer behind me tried to push in ahead of me, but I stood my ground and waited for the receptionist to get off of the phone. We were now 7 minutes into my appointment, and I was miffed that there was no one else to take care of you. The pictures on the internet are very misleading. The space is TINY. Receptionist looks towards a clinician blowing dry someone's hair, when I indicate the Skinceuticals facial I had booked. Oh no. She's not done. In a very disorganized fashion, after I had specifically requested someone very gentle for my facial, a random clinician was recruited to do my treatment. She opened the door, and the room had another client in it, on another bed, with a barely a 1.5 feet in between the two beds, a curtain strung between. You have to be kidding me. You want me to pay (with tip) $200+ for a facial and you can't give me a private room? This was infuriating. By the way, the customer who had flown in behind me was taken first and given the private room. For what service, I don't know, but I was first. It was too much. Now we're 16 minutes into my appointment time. When I complained that (1) the person behind me was taken first ("Oh, your appointments were at the same time" -- I shot back "I don't care about that. I was here first.") and (2) she was given a private room, the receptionist said she would ask the clinician in the private room to switch. Fuhgeddaboutit. I asked for a refund. To her credit, the receptionist didn't argue. She refunded my $50 deposit and I left. This is what happens when people who claim to be professionals let their appointments run late, and don't apologize. And when customer expectations for a $200 service are dashed completely by being offered to SHARE a room for an expensive treatment, when you want to talk about difficulties you have with your skin, problem areas, PRIVATELY -- not so that the client and practioner next to you can hear what you're saying. If you don't care about privacy, lateness, lack of professional courtesy, chaos because no manager is on site, I invite you to try this place. I was disgusted and had traveled over an hour to get there. NOT WORTH IT.

I booked my session online for the earliest slot, which was 9 AM. Finding the studio was not difficult at all and they were ready for me as soon as I came in. The studio has a mini fridge with drinks, as well as some cookies and candies on display for clients to enjoy. I changed into rubber slippers and was escorted to my treatment area, which was divided by a curtain and changed out of my top into a strapless spa towel and laid down on the bed. Serena then tucked me into the bed and began the treatment, starting with a quick hand, arm and shoulder massage with lotion (note this was done very quickly haha). This was done while my face was steamed. She then moved onto washing my face and applying a mask and a warming eye mask. She then began massaging my scalp, which was so nice but a little rough. She then washed my hair for a LONG time, really getting in my roots and cleaning everything. She then removed the mask and put something else over my eyes and went in for conditioner on my hair. Afterwards, she rinsed both my hair and my upper body. This was a little surprising and I wish I had gotten a heads up they'd be running water down to my armpit level. I did feel very clean though! She gave a chest and neck massage afterwards. I awake for most of this but did start to drift off near the end. Right at this point she woke me up and instructed me to put my top back on and meet her over at the blow drying station. Here, she quickly blow dried my hair using a little hair oil I believe. I was a little disappointed that no styling was involved in this part and while my hair looked and felt very clean, it also looked quite flat. Overall, I really enjoyed the service and would like to get another one, but I would like to try another spa for this as I have seen different price ranges online and this studio definitely is on the higher end. From there it's a short flight of stairs to the entrance. Inside it's so warm and cozy and clean. There was relaxing music with water sounds and I took off my shoes and changed into reusable slippers they provided. They also poured me a cup of water. So I will admit it was a bit different than I expected from other videos I've seen of scalp treatments, as my experience was more like a massage and facial and intensive hair wash. Other places I've seen will have a camera to zoom in on your scalp and talk through what they're seeing but they didn't do that. So first, I changed into a cute little strapless towel thing and then Emily gave me an arm massage followed by washing my face and putting on a sheet mask plus a heated eye mask. Then she used a wooden scalp massager which felt nice and shampooed and lathered / massaged my scalp for a while before pulling out a cool almost like rainfall contraption to rinse my scalp and she also washed my décolletage. Then she towel dried my hair and asked me to change back into my clothes and then someone else took me to a blow drying station and I noticed there was also makeup in case anyone wanted to touch up their face afterwards (the brushes were clean and they had a couple makeup sponges too).

It was during this visit that I REALLY learned why it is important to stick to what you know.    I got three services: a chocolate bikini wax, eyebrow threading and upper lip wax. The only one that went right was the upper lip wax.    Eyebrow threading - I woke up with little scabs underneath one of the brows. This has never happened to me before. I don't have a lot of eyebrow, let's get that clear, but I do know they could have been shaped better. Other places I've been too may take an extra minute or two to make sure the shape is perfect. This was super quick and you can tell.    Bikini Wax - I get this type of wax all the time, I've got a wax lady and god do I regret cheating on her. The lady literally left me bleeding. I have NEVER bled before. And she had the audacity to tell me that my skin is sensitive and that this is normal. Maybe it is, but I have definitely never bled before. Like... what the hell?! The wax wasn't even super clean so I had to go back in a day or two later to fix it up a little.    Safe to say I will not be going back and I genuinely couldn't even try to pretend to recommend it. There are other places with similar prices that I'm sure will do a better job.
