Do not even dare to go here! They are terrible! Beyond terrible not only is the whole staff rude, unhelpful, and negative! The dentist Rita busted my lip last time I went and it was bloody. After going to a new dentist I was told she left gaps in my teeth, only extracted cavity's half way (so I could go back and they can take more insurance funds)! My root canal is bright yellow with grey paste that never matched my teeth as well. They are very unorganized and unprofessional this place should be shut down I know so many people who talk horribly about this place. The reception staff is even terrible horrible attitude and will book you wrong dates. Rita is also negative and emotionally abusing when trying to book an appointment they always have excuses to their hours and are not flexible then she will complain to you the whole time why you didn't come sooner! I'm now left with gaps in my teeth after asking her why she said it was normal little did I realize when I went with the new dentist it's far from normal, and crows that still have cavity's that we're not extracted correctly ! She also extracted my dads front tooth which was not needed and shaved it down very short and crooked for him ! Then proceeded to have an attitude ! I now have to pay double and my teeth are a mess because she did not do her job the first time! Her own assistants would talk bad about her when she left the room to me! Pathetic FUCK YOU RITA ! Just had them cancel my appointment just five days before a cleaning. I waited six months. They cancelled their agreement with Kaiser for DeltaCare and said they were now not taking Monday appointments, and their agreement for insurance is cancelled as of 3/31/22. And they have no appointments available before then. But, miraculously, they will be happy to get me an appointment for cash payment after April 1st... Very sleazy way to do business and I would not recommend. read more

I got DHMO from Delta and selected Unismile(037313) as the preferred provider. I called the Dentists office to make an appointment. They told me that their records show that I am not on their list. She says she double checked on Delta's website and it still is not there. Well, I double, tripple checked on Delta's site it clearly States that my "DENTIST" is: Dr. Rita Mitbavkar UNISMILE DC037313 I told the receptionist that we need to see the Dr. urgently, and I was willing to pay out of pocket should the Insurance not pay. She denied making an appointment. I then skirted around and got an appointment after some trying! I go there, and there is a different doctor there. Dr. Rajoota Karmarkar. She takes two X-Rays, says that I need a root canal and she would do it right away. Of course with a small bill for $2800 for two teeth. All this in about 3 minutes! I ask her to fill it up temporarily so, I can get a day or two to think. No, she cannot as it is a liability for her! I walk out! I wonder if the experience would have been better if I had met Dr. Mitbavkar. I have to get a new doctor next month as the DHMO does not permit change in between! Unfortunately until the 1st of next month She is still our preferred provider who prefers NOT TO Provide. read more

In August of 2018, the receptionist scheduled an appt for me for March 1, 2019. I contacted the office on the morning of March 1st. I spoke with the receptionist, Victoria to confirm the appt and was told that my appt was cancelled. Victoria claims I was contacted by the office however no one left me any voicemails notifying me of the cancellation. The office has been aware of this change since January 1st. However I found out only after I called to confirm on the day of my appt. This lack of communication should not be tolerated. I have never written review but because of my personal experience and how much I look to Yelp for recommendations I thought I would put my 2 cents in. Our original dentist (Dr. Lawani) was great. She had made sure that work would be covered by insurance before making future appointment for work to be done. She sold the practice and I thought I would give the new dentist a shot. It was fine for a while but the new dentist brought someone new to also see patients. Really bad experience, didn't wait for shot to numb enough just kept giving more injections. She ended up hitting a spot that was never numbed. I reacted, no apologies or asked if I was alright. She and the assistant let me bite my tongue quite a bit -- still not all healed. They were not suctioning properly so I had to swallow my saliva and that's how I ended up with an injury to my tongue. They didn't question me why I kept swallowing -- sorry logical most people would have inquired. The practice of getting approval for additional work before setting appointments was no longer used. So ended up paying out of pocket, when I could have waited until insurance covered or explained why they couldn't cover services. One spot that they filled is still sensitive to cold. I have also noticed that I only am using one side of mouth to chew because the other side isn't comfortable to do so. My daughter has enjoyed going to the dentist and I am not a fearful patient but I had enough red flags so I'll keep looking. read more

Dr Rita is good and the services were good for both me and my wife.. sometimes when the patient cant turn up for some reason for the appointment then it should be considered and surprisingly there is a charge of 25$.. which is not considered even if there is an emergency.. thats the only part which i did not like at the clinic ... rest all were ok.. not great though.. read more

Thank you Dr. Rita for your honesty and professionalism. I went to Unismile for a couple of years before I moved to gilroy and transferred to a dentist by my new house. Worst mistake ever. Gilroy dentist was run like a used car dealership and tried to up sell me dental procedures that were unnecessary and even told me I had a cavity that needed surgery when I didn't. I returned to Unismile and Dr. Rita was great about it. I will drive the extra 30 minutes to go to a dentist I can trust. Staff is great here. Online / text message appointment system is convenient. I recently had an appointment during COVID and they took every safety precaution they could(IE PPE etc). Won't be leaving this dentist office again. read more

My husband and I just changed dentists after moving and are pleased to have found Dr. Lalwani and her staff. Her office has state of the art equipment. The office is relaxing, no wait period, and her and her staff are very professional and friendly. She could tell from my x-rays that I have had multiple pregnancies and explained to me the effects that causes on my teeth, jaw, and gums. Our follow up appointments have been a breeze to schedule. I really enjoyed the Dr. She had to fix a HUGE chunk of my tooth that chipped off. They got me right in and took an x-ray even though I was a new patient and they were pretty booked. Dr. Rita is awesome! She's thorough on sincerely pays attention to her patients! She's always remembers what's going on in your life and asks about work and the family and even remembers stories your spouse tells her when he came in for his cleaning. The staff is all very friendly and talkative to keep you feeling comfortable. I've always had bad anxiety going to the dentist but I don't feel that way after going to Dr. Rita! She's got top of the line equipment and is able to put your X-rays up right in front of you and discuss the status of your teeth with you. Firstly, Dr. Lalwani is one of the most honest and ethical dentist that I have met in a long time. After visiting several dentists in the bay area I finally think that I have found a dentist whom I can trust. Going to another dentist; the new dentist always seems to find so many things wrong with your teeth. This dentist was great. She did an exam, cleaned my teeth beautifully and talked about fillings that need to be replaced (what I already knew from my old dentist). "The old filling could be replaced with the next cleaning" she told me. No pressure!!! I took my children there. They went in by themselves leaving me behind in the waiting room. It would be nice if the dentist told me a little bit more about the results of my children's dental exam so I know the results too and not only my children. read more

As dentist visits go I am not usually a happy camper. Dr. Rita is exceptional and I left no worse for the ware. Had I found this office years ago I would not be needing the work that I need now. I do not recommend using this dentist because of rushed and incomplete service. Pros - Overall the office has a nice appearance and is clean. The staff is friendly and treat you kindly. Cons - While the consultation seems fair, the service is lacking. My wife had a crown and shortly after the crown fell out and needed to be fixed. Overall I can understand things like this occasionally happening, but I started to question her work. Later my family, 5 in total, all had an appointment to have our 6 month cleaning/checkup. During my visit I received the same advice as other past dentist, which is, I need to floss more, and because of my tarter I should schedule a "deep cleaning". This I questioned because I felt my teeth and gums were in better shape than most of my prior visits with other dentist, and they always just scraped the tarter off. So they cleaned my teeth with the electric brush. No scraping, no floss, nothing but the electric brush! Are you kidding me? Wasn't I told earlier I needed to floss more? So I thought maybe this is because I was asked to come in later for a "deep cleaning" (at a $200 insurance co-pay mind you) they could skip on my flossing and real cleaning. Later I learned all 5 of us received the same "cleaning". NO FLOSSING or tarter scraping for all five cleanings. FAIL! So in summary if you want your teeth cleaned, plan on paying extra because you can save your money and buy an electric toothbrush to do the same job as this dentist. And if I follow their advice I can just skip flossing altogether because actions speak louder than words. So I give this dentist two stars because at least they didn't drill holes in our teeth without us having cavities. I took away a star because I learned from another dentist that California requires dentist to correct problems with fillings/crowns for 1 year, which she charged me for. read more

I had a terrible experience with this dentist office. The receptionist here is very rude and does not want to do any work. I had a similar experience as compared with another reviewer when I called the office for my son. Since we have HMO, the receptionist first mentioned that my son is not on her list of HMO patients. Finally, she found his name after repeated requests from me. When we finally visited the office, they charged us for services that should not be charged under the HMO benefits. On top of this, they did not give a receipt stating the dental work that was done. For the other work that needed to be performed, the estimate included work that was not necessary according to the HMO provider (Delta Dental). After talking to Delta Dental and calling the office again, I was refunded the erroneous fee, but it seems that this office's folks are either very ignorant or charge erroneously on purpose. Also, the office refused to give me a copy of the estimate of work required until I sign for it first. It was veryf frustrating to deal with this office - I visited another dentist office and got the dental work done. Unismile had suggested 4 cavity fillings, but the other dentist mentioned that there were only 2 cavities, not 4. It just seems like Dr. Rita Mitbavkar and this dentist office is only concerned with making money and charging for services that are not required (they could care less for the welfare of the patient). Also, there were way too many X-Rays taken (a couple of the X-Rays were taken again since they did not take the first one correctly). Delta Dental asked me to file a grievance report with them. I was a patient an Unismile when it was under a previous doctor/owner whom I absolutely loved. When the new doctor took over, I was happy to give her a try. I have been extremely disappointed. Without getting into the whole drawn out story, the front desk made a mistake when billing my insurance, overcharged me $500, saw the mistake and said they would refund it, but when they found out because they made the mistake they have overcharged my insurance yearly allowance, they refused to refund me the $500. I called and wrote them trying to reach a compromise to the issue and they were completely unresponsive. I think that equally as important as the dentist's dentistry skills and chair side manners, is the office front staff and billing staff's competency and customer service skills. This office lacks in all areas. I would absolutely not recommend this office and will be searching through Yelp for a new family dentist. read more
