It's not that bad when you have status. The regional jets are painfully small - the seats don't fit my seat and you have to stoop to relieve yourself in the cramped toilet. Do yourself a favor and take care of business before you board. Chaos ensues when there is a cancellation; rebooking with gate agents should be your last resort. If I could do no stars, I would. This is long, bear with me. I booked a trip to see my elderly grandparents in ND from ID. I booked the trip and once I booked it, I saw that there was a cheaper departure flight which consisted of more layovers and a later arrival time but I wanted to save the money so I switched flights and got a confirmation of the flight change. when I looked closer, the return flight from my layover in Denver to id was no longer on my itinerary. I called customer service and after "being put on hold" which consisted of loud banging around and talking to co workers, I was told that I canceled my return flight. I explained I didn't do anything with my return flight, just the departing flight. after going around in circles, I asked for a cancellation confirmation email and she said she wasn't able to do that. I eventually just got fed up and hung up as we were getting nowhere and I didn't want to let my frustrations out on her. I decided to go to the actual airport so I could show the confirmation emails and such and on my way there, I got a call back from united reservations. it was a supervisor who was completely condescending who I eventually hung up on as well as she could not send any confirmation on the "cancellation". at the airport they were also no help and their help desk was unable to assist as it wasn't a "day of" issue. I was refunded 92 dollars when I switched departure flights. I booked my flight last night and they said they could book the return flight now for 170 dollars. What a f***ing joke! The ticket lady in Colorado SPRINGS was awesome helping us to get checked in. The gentleman at the gate as well S the two lady's were all awesome and changed our seating so we could sit together. Don't buy their Basic Economy. It is more than just bag restrictions. They don't even let you check in on your phone or computer if you don't check a bag. This was not clearly disclosed when I purchased my tickets and now they are telling me I should show up 2 hours in advance to guarantee my seat. The basic economy is just a way to try to force you to spend more money later after you are locked into flying with them. There is NO US based customer service. So that means you need to deal with oversees agents that only know a script in dealing with customers. No solutions, just NO! I Am not wanting to see any American business fail but, they better not get a (another) government bailout with my tax dollars. Your money is better spent with Alaska or Southwest. the worst airlines . We booked with Expedia. I was told we had one carryon and one hand bag free. We were booked on Delta. No problem they even checked our carryon because the plane was full free. But our return trip they switched us to United. while checking in we are told we are economy so we have to pay 70.00 dollars for our carryon luggage. Well damn we aren't economy now. Everything was great....until my flight was delayed. All the while I was sitting in the boarding area with the flight status showing as "On Time". In fact, after the plane landed sometime AFTER the scheduled DEPARTURE time the website AND the departure gate still showed as "On Time". Then the gate attendant dropped the 2 hour departure delay on the assembled masses. The gate attendant also seemed to be easily distracted while attempting to reschedule other passengers, walking away without an explanation, leaving the people in line with puzzled expressions, to go back through the boarding tunnel on a couple of occasions. Checking the flight status after the 2 hour delay announcement I see it is showing as departing at 2:34 (a 44 minutes delay - not 2 hours) even though it is now 3:00pm. Unless United has developed some type of time travel machine I'm thinking United has EXTREME difficulty updating data in the digital age. Furthermore, my connecting flight in San Francisco is showing as "On Time" on their website even though the gate attendant (as well as Expedia since I called them for assistance) has confirmed that that flight is also delayed. I find it utterly ridiculous that in the digital age United can not maintain accurate updated arrival/departure information. Speaking of the digital age....I have one digit for United...care to guess which one? I'll be thinking of that when I schedule my future flights with Delta. read more

First time in a log time flying on United. Don't do it!!!! Absolutely find another airline. Completely understaffed and employees are very "snotty". No curbside to help with checkin process. When I arrived, my flight was delayed because the crew needed "rest". I thought they had reserve crews for things like this. What was to be an average travel day has now turned in to a 15 hour day with 3 stops. They put me in another line to wait for assistance and I became thier lowest other priortity. Other airlines in Boise are much more efficient, helpful and friendlier. Take my advice, don't use United!!! Take another airline! read more

The attendant left the check in counter so that we won't have a chance to get checked in. They were overbooked as always(which should be illegal btw). They left me stranded at the airport with a baby and a toddler. I had to pay for additional day of car rental, hotel, meals, and ran completely out of baby formula. What's wven worse is they booked me on another flight the next day which was a connecting flight, cost me additional 7 hours of travel time with two small children. They absolutely refused to refund any portion of my trip that was completely caused by United. United is disgusting and doesn't care about customer service. I will NEVER EVER give them another penny. Paid $1000 each for 2 domestic tickets. They were oversold and wanted to bump one of us to the next day amd miss our next international flight. But their offer for volunteers was only as high as a $1000 travel voucher and would go no higher! Luckily a volunteer emerged at the last minute. I usually only fly United when they're the better option. I typically fly Delta, Southwest, or Alaska. United does not allow a carry on item for basic economy, which is something every other major airline allows, so you either have to pay to check your bag or upgrade to regular economy. Thank heavens for Kathleen Godfrey, the United Airlines agent in Boise who was able to finagle a direct flight to SFO at the last minute! She's the best. Originally the plan was to take a connecting flight from Boise to LAX, leaving at 4:30, then take a flight from LAX-SFO leaving at 6:30. When I arrived at the Boise airport, the flight to LA was delayed. Concerned that I'd miss the LAX-SFO leg of the journey, I got in line at the United Counter in Boise expecting the worst. As I approached Kathleen and told her the situation, her reaction was simple and quick: "Let's get you on that plane (pointing outside) leaving right now for San Francisco. Save you a trip to LA." And within a matter of minutes, whipped up a new ticket for an express flight boarding at that very minute. She even got the gate agent to open back up and let me onboard. As I hustled down the walkway, I yelled, "Kathleen, you are a good woman!". In case she didn't hear, this is my token of appreciation for her efforts. In a world where customer service often falls short, just goes to show you that there's still folks who care. Instead of landing in San Francisco at 8:10 pm, I was on the couch at home ordering takeout by 6:30 pm. Those who travel often for work understand how amazing this truly is... I recently switched credit cards from Virgin America to United Airlines. Maybe it's beginner's luck, but I hope this is just a preview of what's to come when flying my new airline of choice. read more

Here's why I won't fly United ever again unless absolutely necessary. 1) Total discomfort: new seats seem to be recycled dragster seats with only 1.5" of some foam product. So thin my spine rubs the seatback when I lean back. The seat bottom, even less comfortable when you consider how many ppl sit on those things. The aisle is so wide it's almost as if the Flight Attendants complained to the Union and United was forced to give the workers adequate room. I don't know of any other airline that has 4 or 5 inches on each side of the cart when they're serving beverages and snacks. which comes back to the seats, they're so narrow, and armrests are so low that you really can't even use the armrests. I don't even know why they have them other than being a butt separator Miserable 2) Delays and cancellations. Enough. 3) Inconvenient flight plans. 4) Seat amenities completely inconvenient. For tall people the air is blasting right over or behind my head and tonight when somebody was rude enough to let one go in the cab it took me forever to get the air circulated enough to get rid of it. It was just hitting me in the top of my head. The engineers that designed this plane, these planes, certainly don't fly in them that's for sure. Or, all of them must be 5'4". Also on many of their planes they don't even have USB charging ports. How do you design a plane and get it to market in the mid to late teens and you don't have USB ports still? I will say, that the staff were extremely helpful today and very attentive. They were overly kind and polite. For that reason I would give them my service again but unfortunately I'd have to sit in a United torture tube. read more

It's united. The staff does the best they can and are pretty friendly compared to bigger busier airports. Most of the flights I end up on are the little planes. Unlike the others, i love the little planes, i can drop my carry on at the door, no trying to drag it down the ailse, hoping for overheard. All in all the service at the gate is pretty good, i haven't had a flight canceled - yet. Delayed... the equivalent of the length of the flight... that's always annoying! Very disappointed in United Airlines customer service. I helped my daughter check in and she was told she was 3 min late to check her bag. We asked to speak to a supervisor and Marianne handed us a paper stating it was a new rule for checking in bags. My daughter had a baby strapped to her and a toddler. She had a direct flight back to Houston she was told come back the next day. Or they could get her on another flight. The problem was she had a hour wait for the next flight. And then had a layover in Denver for another 1 1/2. I wasn't thinking I could have easily sent her bag back to her house. But we were so upset over the lack of compassion and there attitude was terrible! While my daughter was standing at desk she received a text from United stating she could check in now. I have traveled with several different airlines and United is hands down the worst. They might look like they are the most cost effective, but they will nickel and dime you on everything. If you have to book your flight on the phone they charge an additional $25. Checking in bags is also an additional expense. If you do get sucked into booking a flight with them make sure to arrive extra early to your gate or you will be left, because they always leave before boarding is even scheduled to start. The best airlines with the biggest bang for your buck is American, Southwest or Alaska. read more

I was boarding a United plane, bound for Reno. Just after getting on the plane while still standing, another passenger elbowed me in the face by accident when he was backing up. This knocked my glasses off and they broke. Two nearby flight attendants standing near the door laughed at the incident and neither of them offered me assistance when I asked for it. I searched for my seat with broken glasses in hand and found someone was sitting in my assigned seat. I asked that person to verify my seat assignment and he refused to move. I stood in the aisle asking for help from the attendants and they couldn't care less. I normally hold my composure very well, but at that point I said, "I guess I'll just stand here in the aisle" and I then broke down into tears. Finally, one of the attendants got me a seat right before the plane started to roll for the taxiway. I was a wreck when I arrived in Nevada when my mother picked me up. I filed a complaint with United and never heard back. I will never fly United again... read more

Getting on a flight with co-worker who is seated next to a complete stranger. Flight is less that half full. Co-worker ' I move 4 or 5 rows up to empty seats to sit together. The flight attendant announces over the speaker that all passengers have to return to their original seats. She is standing right next to us. Pretty rude and then when we ask her why we have to go back to our original seats she say that the seats we're in are "upgraded seats that there is an extra charge for" and that we bees to be in the original seats for weight and balance issues?!?!?!?! So in this incredibly dangerous time when we all have to wear masks & be socially distanced because of this incredibly dangerous disease my co-worker is forced to sit right next to a complete stranger on a half empty plane for weight and balance issues. I am horrified at the way we have been treated!!!!I I won't choose United again. Folks if you are heading from Boise to San Fran avoid taking United. I do not recommend United Airlines. I had a reservation cancelled due to hurricanes. Not only did they not issue a refund and offered only a credit when others that were traveling on separate reservations were sued refunds, they promised email confirmation of the credit on which was never received despite multiple follow up calls each promising email confirmation. Today I called to again request a credit and was told I was 10 days too late and the Bebe seen email confirmation of credits. Seriously get it together. Now I'm told my only recourse to hope for getting refunded is their online feedback. Not cool. Stay away from United Aitlines. They only get one star because yelp requires a rating. Worst ever took 30 min to check in because they were manually checking each ticket this is time consuming delayed our flight

We have purchased economy tickets and understand that we have to pay to check any bags that we want to take on the flight. The problem is that we are not allowed to do early check-in online unless we each have a bag to check. Since between the two of us, we only need one bag, this means we can not check in until we arrive at the airport. We flew a different airline last November and had no problems with early check-in, but when I reached an agent (after a 25 minute wait), she just sounded like a good little robot and just kept repeating the policy. I asked her why we couldn't do early check-in without a bag and she just said that that's the way they do things. Definitely different airline next time we fly. read more
