I was feeling under the weather and was looking for a mask and one of the agents tracked some down for me and found me again which was really sweet, compared to the Delta agents who didn't care at all. The only issues I had was that I was sat at the back of the plane for an international flight from Paris to San Francisco and for both meals they ran out of one of the options for meals. I wish they had the option to preselect which meal you want when you check-in for your flight so that they can calculate the number of dishes for each meal selection, rather than estimating it and for people to not be happy with their choice. The first meal was great with it being an English breakfast with eggs, hashbrown, sausage, and baked beans, with a side of fruit and a brownie. They ran out of the pancake option which was unfortunate. For the second meal it was smaller with the option of a pizza pocket (cheese or chicken) and only fruit. They ran out of the chicken option which was very disappointing and not filling. As someone who is quite small and does not require a lot of food to be full, I was not satisfied with this meal, I can't imagine someone who requires more food to be satisfied by that second meal either. I'd be starving. Also I was in boarding group 4 and they forced me to check in my luggage bc there was limited overhead space but when I got onto the plane, bc I was sitting in the very back (literally the last seats at the back of the place) there was still overhead space that would have fit my luggage. I understand needing to check-in baggage just in case of running out of storage, but next time I will try to get a seat closer to the front of the plane so that I can avoid the issues of being forced to check-in my luggage and to have the ability to choose which meal I want to eat. Aside from those complaints the seats were pretty standard, and the movie selection is good, they also provide the small pillows, a good quality blanket, and earbuds for the in-flight entertainment. You can also connect wirelessly to their system which is pretty cool too! ---- Overall: the customer service I've experienced has been very helpful and good so far, my complaints come from being forced to check-in luggage when there is still overhead space available and limited food options if your seat is placed towards the back of the plane read more

This may sound crazy, but I'd choose Southwest over United any day. I regularly fly back and forth between San Diego and the Bay Area, but given that United has some more non-standard flight times, I've found myself on United flights more frequently. Some gripes I have is that they charge $8 for wifi where it's free on Southwest. The feel on the planes also just isn't the same as it is on SW. I do appreciate the added flexibility that because they have more extended flight windows, I can make a trip a day trip as opposed to needing to stay overnight. United flights fly out of Terminal 2 at the San Diego airport, which used to be the better and bigger terminal, but now that Terminal 1 has been renovated, they are a lot more similar in terms of options! read more

Like how they send reminders for your upcoming flight to make sure you are Travel Ready especially if you need to scan your passport if your destination is not Domestic. United We had an afternoon flight with United Airlines out of San Diego International Airport heading back to the East Coast. We arrived almost five hours early, expecting long lines, but were pleasantly surprised there was virtually no wait at baggage check or security. We ended up with about four hours to spare. One area that could be improved not just for United, but across all airlines is the boarding process. Boarding from the back of the plane to the front would likely make things more efficient, since everyone already has assigned seats and it would reduce people needing to move around in the aisle. Another issue is carry-on limits. It often feels like some passengers bring on multiple large items, which slows boarding and takes up overhead space. A stricter and more consistent enforcement of one carry-on and one personal item (such as a backpack or purse) would help ensure there's enough room for everyone. Lastly, deplaning could also be more orderly. Passengers seated toward the back rushing forward only adds to the congestion and slows the process for everyone. Overall, the airport experience was smooth and efficient, but improvements to boarding and deplaning would make the flight experience even better. read more

So, our flight was delayed a couple times until we were able to board the plane. At this time, we just walked around the different terminals. Then, as we got closer to Chicago, it was delayed again. However, this time we were cycling in Iowa for a couple hours. Then, we were able to land at O'Hare. We had to wait for a gate to open before we could deboard. I know people would automatically give them one star, but it's a good thing that we didn't have to stay in San Diego overnight. Plus United Airlines has great customer service compared to American and Southwest. 3.5-4.0 in my book because the weather was pretty bad in Chicago at the time. The first time we missed our flight, I was so worried, but they put us on a different plane, provided a complimentary hotel stay, gave us a bunch of goodies that came with toiletries and a refillable water bottle container, plus $180 worth of food vouchers available for purchase at the hotel and the airport. That was amazing! Just when I thought it would ruin our entire flight and cost me more money, they compensated us, making the wait worth it. They even provided a free shuttle to take us to the hotel and back. They have the best customer service. read more

If I could give zero stars I would... This morning I took my 82-year-old mother to check in to her flight in San Diego. Every single United staff person that we interacted with was rude and dismissive... My mom needed wheelchair assistance. They made her stand in the long general line... Then sent her to a computer kiosk that didn't work, Everyone we asked for assistance was awful... They expected her to lift her luggage onto the scale and she would not be able to do it had she been on her own... I have been traveling around the world for 30 years and have never experienced such horrible customer service in my life. I called customer service and the agent Juvy put in a request to assist and provide lounge access as compensation when she arrived at Chicago. They would not honor what was promised under complaint and compensation number 178569402782893. I was told she would not have to pay and they tried to charge her $59. I highly recommend choosing any other airline as United clearly doesn't care about their customers especially those with disabilities. I will remove this review if someone contacts me from United and make it right but I refuse to wait on hold for the run around. read more

I picked United solely on price and time of departure. I don't like that they are the only ones who charge for a carry on. That said, I was flying one way to Chicago on a red eye. I didn't need a carry on a it was only a weekend trip. The price was right. The day I flew, all Alaska Airlines was grounded due to an IT glitch. I was thankful that I was not flying Alaska Airlines. We flew out one minute late due to the traffic on the runway. We managed to arrive on time. The crew were fast the flight. They had a cart of wet wipes and masks at the entrance. They provided blankets for everyone. They had screens on the back of the seats. Bravo! We received 3 choices of snacks and plenty of drinks. The lights were turned off for a red eye flight. The seats were uncomfortable but that's what you get in economy anyway. It was a short 3 hour flight and deplaning was easy. I was pleasantly surprised by United and would use them again. read more

let me start with the only good, the pilots were excellent. now to the bad. the flight attendants were surly, rude, unhelpful. the seats had no cushioning, narrow, I am 5'3" and had no leg room. the food was so sub par it was inedible. A check-in agent (an African American woman) at the United Premier Access counter appeared unfamiliar with several procedures and neglected to attach priority tags to our checked bags. Both she and her supervisor assured us that they would track down the luggage and tag them. They did not follow up on what they promised to do. One of our bags--a nearly new TravelPro used on only one or two previous trips--arrived at our destination with a missing / broken wheel. United needs to ensure that only well-trained and knowledgeable staff are assigned to the Premier Access counter, as it is intended to provide a higher level of service for their premier status travelers. read more

Unfortunately, they have the single contract for my business and I'm usually required to fly with them as the lowest cost carrier so I've been to San Diego several times with United. My most recent trip was without incident and all flights were on time, no delays, and no issues even with a shorter, 1-hour layover in D.C. for one leg. Since my last trip, they have improved some things like their bag tracking on app, rebooking on app, text updates for gates arrival and departures, app updates, and the boarding process seemed much smoother.
