I had a partial pleasant flight experience with American Airlines, but in the beginning of the pre-departure, I had some ticket issues that I had to let go for my peace of mind . The flight was booked, and unfortunately my daughter could not make the trip due to work reasons. So, I had to cancel which was done early on, abiding by American Airlines cancellation policy, but they issued a flight credit instead of a refund . I was on the phone with them going back and forth trying to make them be accountable for their own legal travel guidelines, and I was on the phone with various representatives who loved to tell me they can help and issue the refund, but they never did refund me! I could have complained to my bank, but they took out all the mental energy in my system that I just let it go! I was on the phone with them trying to get the refund about four different occasions (each representative) assuring me they could help, and some could not, that I gave up the fight to preserve my mental health. Why did they not follow their own travel (legal) guidelines)? They can get in trouble if they continue to not abide by their own legal travel guidelines. I was already taking time to prepare for this important trip and did not need added anxiety and stress on my plate. How many times does a customer need to be on the phone to get successful and satisfactory results? It should take one phone call to do that. Due to this inability to refund my money, and not abiding by their legal guidelines, even having their own customer service representatives on the phone telling you don't worry we will get you a refund, and it never happened. That is a real problem! The flight itself was smooth with no complications, but it needed to be effortless with my entire experience! In the future, I might fly Delta. Hopefully, American Airlines will take steps to improve in the areas that need attention to regain the trust of their travelers. read more

Never doing any business with American Airlines again! I purchased tickets to Japan from AA, with the flight operated by Japan Airlines AA's email states: "If your flight is operated by a partner airline, see the other airline's website for carry-on and checked bag policies." Japan airline states "2 free checked bags" But they charged me extra fees for every checked bag I had, stating it was AA's decision. Both airlines had no idea what the policy was and they had to call each other to figure it out for 30 minutes. If I don't sign for the extra charges, my luggage doesn't go on the flight. The service being sold had very unclear terms and they have denied the dispute, stating I knew what I signed up for initially, and that I had signed for the charges at the airport. Total Catch-22 THIS COMPANY IS A TOTAL SCAM 0/5 stars. Fool me once shame on me. But I won't let them fool me or anyone else twice. Dear American Airlines, I am writing to formally bring to your attention a very concerning incident that occurred during my daughter's recent flight from San Diego (SAN) to Miami (MIA) At check-in, an American Airlines employee behaved in a manner that is extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. My daughter, who is 15 years old, was initially assigned a seat next to an adult male passenger. My sister requested that she be seated closer to children her age. In response, the employee made a comment to my daughter stating that she was "dressed inappropriately" and should cover up "if she didn't want attention from a grown adult & if she was touched that was was looking for it". This statement was completely unacceptable. First and foremost, my daughter is a minor. In the United States, a child is not considered an adult until age 18. For a staff member representing American Airlines to speak to a young passenger in this way is highly unprofessional and deeply concerning. No minor should be spoken to or treated in this manner. While my daughter was ultimately reseated, she was placed directly behind a morbidly obese passenger, which severely restricted her space and made her six-hour flight very uncomfortable. She also reported that the conditions were unpleasant due to odor, making the experience even more distressing. My two main concerns are: 1. The inappropriate and unacceptable comment made by your staff member. 2. The lack of care in ensuring my child was seated in a safe and reasonably comfortable environment for the duration of the flight. I would like this matter to be fully investigated, and I am prepared to provide photographs of both my daughter's attire (which was entirely age-appropriate) and her assigned seating conditions. I have been flying with American for a decade. I have never been more dissatisfied with their standards, especially regarding service and hygiene. On my last flight, I was smelling all kinds of smells, including urine and body odor to the point where I had to vomit mid-flight. In addition to that, my return flight was a nightmare, they cancelled my flight at the last minute and rescheduled my flight without any consideration to the point I needed to run through the airport all night. We get delayed at DFW due to a mechanical issue with a plane stuck at the gate we need to disembark. Result-missed connection. I used to be very loyal to America West Airlines out of Phoenix with a hub at one time in Columbus, Ohio. Then, it was US Airways flying across country, again from Phoenix, and I was getting upgraded regularly. Now, it's American Airlines that I frequent along with past America West Airlines and US Airways patrons. I find that similar to any other airline, customer service is often better than not, but there are always those few hiccups. With American Airlines, you can get someone on the phone, on a chat, on social media, or in person to assist, and with some respect on our part, we can often get what we need. I rarely have luggage issues though there was one time where my bag was broken, and American Airlines gave me a replacement bag while they had my original bag repaired. I find myself regularly flying in and out of the American Airlines gates at Phoenix Sky Harbor and frequenting hubs like Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Philadelphia, and Charlotte. I even make it out to San Diego on occasion, as I have at least annually either on my own or with my wife. Often, my travels require a connecting flight, and my flights are more often than not on time and without delays on departing or arriving. With status, an American Airlines credit card, and membership in CLEAR and Global Entry, I do not pay for luggage, I receive priority luggage handling, I board early, I speed through security, I sometimes receive upgrades, and I access lounges. Traveling has become more of a hobby and habit at the same time, and using American Airlines as my regular go-to airlines, I accumulate miles quickly while also receiving status and Loyalty Point rewards. I have two travel premium credit cards: the AAdvantage Executive Mastercard offering complimentary Admirals Club access and the American Express Platinum card offering other lounge access along with travel credits along with complimentary CLEAR and Global Entry membership. The Airspace Lounge at the San Diego Airport is one available lounge near the American Airlines gates that can be accessed by both American Airlines Admirals Club members and American Express Platinum card holders alike. Also, through T-Mobile, I receive free WiFi on American Airline flights. Through my American Airlines AAdvantage status, I get upgrades or free paid snacks and drinks on flights along with other benefits. To retain status each year, you need to earn Loyalty Point through flying, credit card spending, and promotions. You also can earn Loyalty point rewards after hitting 175,000 points, 250,000 points, and so on. While it is difficult to receive upgrades due to so many people at the Executive Platinum status tier, the benefits I do receive is worthwhile. I also have experienced technical issues on flights but not enough to cause me to abandon American Airlines, especially when every other airline has these same challenges. All in all, American Airlines is a great company and does as well if not better than any of the other major airlines. read more

Long story short. We were headed from San Diego to Philadelphia for our 3 and a half layover to Lisbon Portugal. There was a Karen who complained about her first class seat not reclining properly so she could sleep comfortably. This delayed us about an hour. Then AA had to divert us to JFK. Now waiting to hear if we will make it to Philly for our connection, we were told the flight crew was over hours and we would have to wait for another crew to come in. Now off the plain in Philly everyone lined up to try and figure out what they can do to get to their destination. After waiting in line for 2 hours we were cut off and told to re-board the plane. Now after midnight and not knowing what we were going to do and exhausted we head to Philly. Now in Philly people line up again. We are told we would get a message for a hotel voucher. They exhausted all vouchers and we could not use one. The AA person said that we should keep our receipts and AA will reimburse us what they feel reasonable. Had to find a hotel at 3AM, could not fly to Lisbon for 2 nights, no luggage, no toiletries, nothing. Get to Philly Airport and asked about our luggage. We were told it would not leave without us. WELL, all of it ended up in London. We got to Lisbon and were in the airport for 4 hours at the lost and found to see how we were going to get it to us. 10 days after the start to our trip I received my bags. Both were damaged, wheels broken off. The entire trip was spend on hold, calling multiple numbers, downloading receipts, filling out online forms, shopping for cloths because we had none and lots of anxiety. I thought AA was trying to redeem themselves when I received two travel vouchers, one for $300 and another for $500. Then one for $50 due to our luggage delay. Only to find out they voided the $500 one and said it was a mistake. After all the online and phone calls I didn't receive a quarter of what I had to spend and luggage that I had to throw away. All in all, I will never EVER trust this airline again or recommend flying with them. read more

This is a review strictly of Flight AA 1367 that leaves daily at 6:25 am from SAN (San Diego) bound for PHL (Philadelphia). I needed to be in Philadelphia for a memorial service for a dear friend from Los Angeles who recently passed away, who originally hails from Philadelphia. I had heard the ground personal of American Airlines can be crabby, but I only experienced efficiency and kindness. When I was having trouble tagging my own bag, someone was right there to offer a helping hand. The plane boarded on time as scheduled. First Class is the first five rows, two abreast. I was in seat 3F. Be aware it is not international First Class, so don't expect vast comfort. Nonetheless, it was roomy and just fine for the anticipated five hour flight. A glass of Champagne and a Bloody Mary were perfect for the 6:00 am boarding and they are offered before taking off, which is always a luxurious touch. There was a bearded steward who was in charge of the First Class cabin and he did a good job, with a mixture of efficiency and humor. The Cheese Omelette served for breakfast was good and the drinks were offered non-stop (many people opted for Mimosas). We arrived in Philadelphia early. What more can a passenger ask? read more

Nov 9 our flight back home to San Diego was connecting in Charllott No Carolina. Instead when we got to Char, American Air said "Sorry no plane to SDm maybe tomorrow'. We. are a senior couple were stranded at night in a city we did not know , had to get a cab and hotel until the next day, We had paid for first class but to get home my husband had take a coach seat, AA said they would refund the balance. Instead of the $500.00 plus difference they gave $220 and no compensation for hotel and cabs. We have called and written with no response of consequences. Flight 1215 from Philadelphia to San Diego was supposed to arrive in San Diego at 7:22 PM. Ask me why I am mentioning at currently 2:23 AM that Flight 1215 was supposed to arrive in San Diego at 7:22 PM. Because according to the last update the passengers from that flight will not be arriving in San Diego until 7:20 AM Thursday 12/19/24. Mind you they left Philadelphia on 12/18/24 @ 5:30 PM a whole hour delay of sitting there waiting to take off. One agent said we would be put up in a hotel until morning, but we were told later we had ro make our own arrangements to get to San Diego. How is it that the representatives for thus airline aren't even on the same page. This was a horrible experience. American Airlines use to be great, but sadly a whole lot has changed. I feel sorry for the elderly passengers that were in wheel chairs and such. Horrible experience, but they took our money and never offered any type of professional accommodations or discount. Every staff member from customer service to the flight attendants are rude. They treat you like you're supposed to know what they know. I have traveled with my duty weapon several times and the St.louis airport wants you to have it in its original container locked up of course. After waiting an hour with no one attending the front desk in San Diego I was told I had to get a different container for my duty weapon or to choose A DIFFERENT AIRLINE. I had to leave the airport go to a store and find a different container just to get back in line and wait another hour. The flight attendants were rude. This is about my experience with American Airlines, the WORST OF THE WORST. I'll drive before I ever use American Airlines again. Use them at your own peril. My story: My wife and I purchased a vacation package with flight and hotel down to New Orleans flying on American Airlines. We booked First Class seats. The whole package cost over $5000. Mind you, we spent a lot of money and were entitled to a great product. However, on the return trip, we were bumped from First Class to Coach Class for one of the two legs of the flight with the explanation that First Class was sold out. However, we had already been assigned two First Class seats when we originally booked. I had the itinerary with me which showed the seats. We had arrived at the airport well before the recommended two hours, so it wasn't like we didn't show up in time. When I complained at the gate, I was told to go to the American Airlines website to register my complaint. Thanks!! In today's computer age, this was no accident. There is no way their scheduling system can accidently over book seats. When I had booked the flight online, I was able to pick which seats I wanted and see which ones had already been reserved. This is outright FRAUD on behalf of American Airlines. I later contacted their customer service and was offered a $75 dollar credit on a future flight. That was a slap in the face. Why would I want a credit for a future flight on American Airlines? Why would I ever fly again with an airline with such terrible flight service and terrible customer service, i.e. American Airlines? I complained and demanded a refund. But I was told that when this happens their policy is to refund the customer with 40% of the cost of the flight. What? So they have a policy to address this situation? How often does this type of thing happen? Maybe it isn't accidental after all. In other words, how is it possible to schedule more First Class seats than are available? Something doesn't seem right. Not only that, the Coach Class seats they assigned to us were not even together. Fortunately, somebody offered to switch seats so we could be together. By-the-way, I eventually got $62 dollars back. Moreover, on the initial flight, for meals we had to settle for a vegetarian stuffed bell pepper because they had run out of the chicken enchiladas. Also, they didn't have Pina Coladas or Margaritas for drinks so we had to settle for Gin and Tonic. This was First Class? We were told that the customer needs to go online before the flight to reserve what they want to eat. Thanks for letting us know. So, we tried to reserve our meals for the return flight. However, it turned out that the return flight was delayed and meals were not available because it was a late flight. What? No problem, right? As long as you don't mind not having dinner. Fortunately, they did give us some cookies. Oh boy. My dealings with their customer service were also reflective of American Airlines' overall lack of concern for their customers. When I complained about not getting a refund, I was told that the full ticket value had been used, it had no remaining value and a refund was not applicable. What? They told me the upgraded seat was voluntarily purchased and fully utilized for my trip. What does that mean? This was not an upgrade, it was my original purchase. When a customer books and pays for a First Class seat, they expect the Best of the Best, not the Worst of the Worst. American Airlines is the WORST OF THE WORST. Their customer service slogan is 'The Customer is always wrong. Always!' The owe me a refund of the cost difference between First-Class and Coach-Class. Not a measly $62 or a credit for a future flight. NOTHING else is acceptable. I know I don't owe American Airlines anything, but out of the goodness of my heart, I'll offer them some free advice. Save yourselves some money and get rid of your customer service department. It is not needed. read more

the most horrible flight experience I have ever encountered!!! Departed McAllen Airport flight. After boarding, passengers were told a light bulb needed to be fixed - we all sat in a warm, poorly ventilated plane for about 30 minutes. Uncertain Why this wasn't fixed before boarding. I was instantly ill from the heat and lack of ventilation. Upon arrival passengers were informed we had to wait for another plane to move before we get off to our connecting flight. This caused delay and panic running over to gate 37. I have a heart condition and by this time thought I would faint with layered illness from sitting in a warm delayed plane. Upon arrival to SD the plane sat on the tarmac once again but for about 40 minutes now before letting us off. I was the last person to get off the plane as my legs were cramped with poor circulation, as the staff just stood around, heartless, and never bothered to help me. To make matters worse my luggage did not arrive on my flight and my heart medication was inside of it. At this point, just wanted to cry as the AA baggage staff just looked at me without expression and said "your bag will arrive at midnight ". The delays were AA's fault, so I would at least hope they have the integrity to refund my ticket and baggage cost. My family Suffered so much for such an expensive airfare, along with paid baggage fee only to have everything delayed. Never thought I'd say this but next time me and my very large family opting for Southwest if AA does not try to rectify this matter. The one star I give is for landing safely and offering a whole can of beverage instead of just a cup. The staff does not appear to enjoy the career they have chosen. read more

There is the scent of resentment among the employees, from the gate attendants to the flight attendants and everyone in between. Everybody gets a middle seat unless you pay an upcharge, and we flew with an empty row a few seats up from our entirely full row. None of the flight attendants asked if we wanted to spread out a bit! They were too busy joking and essentially ignoring us! I won't ever fly Spirit because it's known to nickle and dime you to death, but at least it's a known issue.
