After months of dealing with a mysterious gurgling toilet and occasional unpleasant smells from our upstairs bathroom, we finally decided to call in Brightside Plumbing -- and I'm so glad we did. From the start, they approached the problem methodically. Dalton and Jeff ran a full smoke test, cleverly blocking all vents except one to locate the issue. Sure enough, they found the leak right where another "professional" plumber had previously worked: under our master bathroom toilet. That plumber had used an auger months earlier and failed to notice the wax ring seal was damaged -- something Brightside diagnosed quickly and resolved properly. Dalton was fantastic throughout. Friendly, professional, and very clear in his explanations, he made us feel completely confident in the work being done. He and Jeff went above and beyond, replacing the damaged bolts from the earlier install and properly capping the toilet to ensure everything was sealed and secure. Brightside wasn't just competent -- they were also fair. While weather caused a slight delay in the actual repair, they proactively offered a discount and applied a portion of the initial diagnostic fee toward the final fix. That level of transparency and goodwill is rare and greatly appreciated. Now? The toilet is quiet, clean-smelling, and working exactly as it should. Updating this review to share that the sump pump installed by Bright Side last year failed at the worst moment during a torrential downpour while my husband was out of town (enter facepalm here). I was convinced it was broken and called Bright Side once I had the flooding under control in the basement. I can't understate how impressed I was with them from the phone call to the plumber showing up later that afternoon. First of all the person on the phone was so kind, told me I was still under warranty, and assured me that they'd have someone out that day to take a look and fix it. The plumber arrived on time, listed to my whole sad story about the basement and the pump, and figured out the issue within a few minutes. He fixed the pump, assured me it should last a long time with the fix, took a look at our other pump, talked me through what had happened, sent me some estimates on things we could do to improve our set up, and was out the door within a reasonable amount of time. The things I loved was how low pressure it all was and how friendly he was. Other plumbers would have upsold me and likely made me feel pressure to purchase something else. I really appreciated that they came out day of, stood by their warranty with no questions, fixed it, and was honest about the situation, giving us options but no hard sell. This is the kind of service that will keep us as customers. It's always hard to know if a company is good after one visit, but this being our second, and on a call when something bad had happened I would not hesitate to recommend them to others. I called Bright Side out to unclog a sink drain. They came out and could not get it open stating that there was something wrong with pipe. I agreed to a price to replace up to 20 ft of pipe. The rep even indicated it would be out to my second support post. I signed on his phone, and they were to come out the next day. When the techs got here, I moved everything out of the way for them. The two that were here all day were great to deal with. As I talked to them, they thought they were only going out 10 feet. I went and found an email that had the estimate on it only to find out the rep wrote it up for only 15ft from the wall. This was upsetting to say the least, but it was my fault for not checking. The good news is when I went back down to talk to them, they were only about 8 ft from the wall, and they said that the next section of pipe looked good. They snaked it and said they ran out 40 ft and no blocks, so they were going to stop there. I was happy at that time I went into the other room to clean I could hear them they went to jackhammer and then the guy stopped and said something happened the other guy said it happens. The next thing I hear is them on the phone with rep stating that the pipe was crack and they are going to have to go another 8-10 Ft. The rep said to talk it over with me. I came out at this time, and they told me what they told their Rep and told me the price would need to go up by almost double. I asked why since it was supposed to be 15 ft. They told me I would need to talk to the rep when he gets here. I wait for the rep who got here about an hour later. At this time the techs told me that they found out the crack only went 4 more inch's and that they just went ahead and fixed it. At this time, they were already reconnecting the pipe I heard them say something about doing a flow test but never saw one done. They did say that there was grease in the old line still, but they could see down the pipe. They went ahead and finished the pipe having to come back the next day to pour concrete. I went down the next day to clean up since we needed to wait for concrete to dry. After running the water in the sink for a min I turned around to find my floor drain backing up. I called the company they said the rep would be out between 2-4 that day No one showed up I got a call from the company asking what was going wrong. He told me in the notes that I refused to do any more work. I asked him why I would do that if there was still another 8 ft on the estimate. I told him what happened and got told he would have to talk to the rep. He informed me that he was on a big job and would get back to me. It has been a week now with no response I am not able to do laundry, dishes, or dump anything down the drain. It will back up in the floor drain if it is too much. and I have to wait for it to go down. My recommendation is to stay clear of this company. A warranty is only as good as the people who stand behind it and this company rather move on to the next job instead of making sure the work is done right. read more

Bright Side is the only plumbing company I can give a positive review. We have an older home and this wasn't our first issue with plumbing. We had a leak we couldn't locate but James found the problem. It was a complex problem involving old copper drains in unbelievably tight places. James and his assistant, Tristan, worked tirelessly and accomplished the impossible. They are professional and we appreciated the way they kept us informed. I called to make an appointment for the "$49" drain cleaning special. The plumber looked at the clogged drain in my garage without attempting an actual repair then quickly began looking through his computer to write a new quote for $200 . I was told that the floor drain didn't qualify for the special pricing. Can't say that I'm surprised. Can anyone recommend an honest plumbing company in the KC area? Let me tell you all about Brightside Plumbing. I had the pleasure (yes, it was indeed a pleasure) of meeting Anthony, one of Brightside's brightest stars! I needed an estimate for under basement floor sewer line replacement on a rental house I own. Another "famous" local company gave me a hellacious price to repair. Anthony came in lower than the other company, but included in the bid was repairs to all kinds of "non-code" plumbing repairs done previously! From unnecessary traps slowing the kitchen drain down to angled plumbing lines that caused used water to try to go uphill! Yes, uphill. The "famous" company tunnel visioned on just the sewer pipe without even looking at the rest of the house plumbing. As Anthony said, you wouldn't take your car to the dealership and not have them check everything on the vehicle, right? So that's what Brightside did...they checked for everything "under the hood" per se. As far as the pipe replacement and everything else they fixed, they made sure my tenants were not inconvenienced at all. This was a 3-day job, and Anthony made sure everything was operational for my tenants before he left at the end of each day. We moved into a house with lots of plumbing issues and James from Bright Side Plumbing has helped us IMMENSELY. Service has been reliable, affordable, and high quality. The first plumbing company we had out here (not Brightside) was for a water heater install and I had a couple issues with them. I feel like I was being gouged and the installation was missing a few finishing touches that James from Brightside noticed immediately and fixed for us. James has also been very friendly and given great advice so that I can do some of the more simple plumbing repairs myself. So far, we've had him out for a sump pump installation, to fix a leak in a kitchen sink, and to repair a faulty shutoff valve from our main water line. They redid all the plumbing in my house, they had to dig out collapsed drains in my basement and replace them, they installed a new sump pump system, and had to replace the sewer line. It was a big job and unexpected. Kelan was very professional, friendly, informative and flexible. The whole crew was also great! We recently purchased We recently purchased our home and knew from our inspection that the water heater was past it's useful life expectancy and should be replaced. Not only were the sequential 40 gallon heaters in need of replacement, but the plumbing connecting them together and to the waterlines in the home looked like it was completed as part of grade school art project. The work that Kalen completed was not only extremely professional and functional, the aesthetics are so much better than I even thought possible when looking at the old mess. He removed both old water heaters, installed a new larger capacity single unit, replaced our pressure regulator and brought the whole system up to code. And with their warranty we don't have to worry about the hot water heater for the next 20 years. The icing on the cake was how clean and tidy the area was left when the work was finished. Bright Side Plumbing came out to replace my sump pump. Our old one was not working anymore and our basement flooded. Kalen came out and and recommended a new pump with a backup pump with battery system. We have been thinking about one for a while and we knew it was time to make the investment. Not only did he replace the pump with the fancy new one, but he cleaned all the mud out of the old pit it was in and there was a lot. The new wires to everything were neatly zip tied together so it didn't look like a rats nest. He explained everything to us when he was done and we are impressed with the new system. He said we could add on a thing later that would alert our phones if there was a problem but we don't think we need that right now so we didn't get it. We noticed that he also swept the closet that the pump was in and he even vacuumed the cobwebs that were everywhere. The whole time he wore shoe covers and was careful to keep the work area contained. We felt bad because it was late, but he stayed upbeat. Would use again. read more
