Well it's Friday and I stepped out to throw out my garbage. As I closed my front door I just realized I left my keys on the counter. Doh! I just moved here so I did not set up a place or a person to have my spare key. I called a local locksmith but they were closed due to Nevada Days. I called United Lock and Key and spoke with Rob. I told him I was locked out and I live in Incline Village. He said no problem he can be there in 20-25 minutes. He arrived as stated and unlocked my door even though the previous owner put the door lock in upside down. He even gave me advice on installing new weatherstripping on the front door because he noticed it was worn down. I highly recommend United Lock and Key because of the quick and friendly service. I had a great experience with Rob. I locked myself out of my condo on a Saturday morning. I googled a couple locksmiths and they weren't available. When I called Rob, he left me know he'd be there as soon as he could. He was finishing a job on the other side of the lake, but would get to me ASAP. He texted me updates as he was en route. Ironically, only minutes before he arrived, I managed to get myself in. I called him and we had a good laugh over the phone. Just like everyone else who has to call a locksmith: "Damn! How dumb was that?!" Frustration mounts because, well, in most cases you blew it by doing something stupid. Needed to get a MTB off a locked roof rack and had forgotten the key. United answered on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and was here to help in 30 minutes. Job accomplished with great service. We had some outdoor storage locks that were quite old, but had always worked, and now we couldn't get them open. Called Robert and he came over within the hour, opened one lock, but we decided that the other 2 had to be cut off, which he did. Since we had 4 other storage locks, and needed to have one 'matched' set, he was very helpful in guiding us at the local hardware store to get two sets of 4 master lock padlocks with one key for each set of 4. This was a fine solution, and quite reasonably priced. We also had a sticky deadbolt lock on one of the house doors, and Robert was able to re-install it so it worked properly, all within the minimum charge for a house visit. Delighted to work with him, and he'll be the one we call if we ever had another lock problem. read more

Rob was so great. He called me back within a couple of minutes. we had some issues with a person who helps out at our vacation rental/second home this person still had a key to our home and we were not in the area to change the lock. He went to our place, rekeyed the lock and even made extra copies as requested so that the renters coming that wknd would have enough keys. he left another key with our trusted neighbor. We will be hiring him again in the spring/early summer to change our lock and paint our door a more fun color. We will probably also use his and his wife's cleaning services that they also offer. read more

"FUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuu......... I'm such. an. idiot". This was me, verbatim, in the Safeway parking lot one particularly brisk afternoon. Grocery bags in hand and a chill in my bones, I stood staring at the keychain dangling from the ignition of my car with the helpless affect of a toddler below the cookie jar. Locked out. Thank god for smart phones. And thank god I'm at least reliable enough to keep it charged (it's the small victories). Google led me to Aero United. One phone call and ten minutes later and we were standing beside the driver side, window wedged open and some extendable door-opening contraption wiggling its way to the unlock button. Third try was a charm. And If I wasn't so grateful to've been granted access to the cookie jar (guess this is the new pet name for my car), I'd've been a little more concerned with just how easy it was to break in. Aero was professional and extremely fast. I'd use them again in a heartbeat which I'd like to believe will never happen again but I'm a bit more of a realist. Aero's in my contact list now. And, hey, the service isn't cheap. But I guess we all gotta pay the Idiot Tax at some point. (facepalm) read more

I drove into the area on a Saturday mid-afternoon and tried to phone United Lock and Key to see when they could possibly re-key my house. I had trouble making phone contact, so I decided to drive by their address to see if anyone might be around. I saw a gentleman sweeping his porch, so I went up and asked if and when he might be able to come by and re-key my house. Rob said, "Is tomorrow (Sunday) okay?" I was shocked (happily). Rob said he'd be there around 11am. He showed up at 10:30am, which was all the more impressive to me, as I rarely get that kind of promptness from many businesses around here. Not only did he do exactly what I had hoped for, his prices were extremely reasonable and very much worth what I now think was probably a token gratuity I offered him. Pulled a "stupid human trick" and arrived in Incline at Friday at midnight, but had misplaced my key. Called Rob at 7:30 AM Saturday morning -- he answered, was very pleasant and was at my front door at 8 AM (very impressive). Do not go here! this guy was not only absurdly rude from the get go but after 2 min of grumbling while trying to pick the lock on my ski rack he threatened to kick my a** for assuming it would be a simple lock for him to pick. After 5 min at his shop(house) I left for fear of my safety. When I said, "sir i'm trying to be a customer of yours, I don't understand why your so angry with me." His response was, "your from Oregon, we're in California, your not my customer, your just a stupid tourist who needs my help." Little did he know the Oregon plates were from the car I have registered there. I had actually just closed on a house less than a mile away and would have been a lifetime customer had he made any effort at all to help. My husband and I purchased a home in Tahoe City. I was nervous about the fact that the locks hadn't been changed in 30 years and I was troubled by the fact that this home opened to three separate keys.
