My partner and I had a 6 am flight on a Friday morning. We didn't want to bother friends to take us to the airport but we were also worried that Ubers would not be available at this time since we hadn't tried to take an Uber this early from San Fernando Valley before. I decided to book United Taxi because their San Fernando Valley website said most locations to LAX had a flat rate of $38 or your ride would be below $50 at least. The driver arrived 17 minutes before our requested time, called me because I asked for them to call when they arrive, and drove quickly and efficiently. However, the ride ended up being $77 from Tarzana, right off the highway. I asked about the flat rate and he said it was only for downtown. Weird because downtown is nearly the same time away driving-wise. Although convenient, I checked Uber prices and availability at the time the cab took us, and they were cheaper ($46)and there were drivers around our location. I would like to support other taxi services besides the large rideshare companies but I can't be paying $30 more. Would probably not take them again even though we rarely would require the service. read more

I am going back to Uber and Lyft after this. The driver refused to accept my credit card, didn't have the meter running when I was in the cab, complained about my knee scooter that I had with me, and refused to give me a receipt and just gave me a card to fill out on my own. Felt super shady that he didn't want to have any sort of record of the trip. I will never ride with United Taxi again. I booked the taxi online didn't receive a confirmation had to call about it and then in the morning I got a call that there were no cars available to take me to the airport and can they refer me to another company?. We arrived at LAX and walked over to LAXiT to pick up a cab. The driver of the taxi we were assigned, Martin (Cab 52?), was friendly and professional. Even though our fare was only into a local address (aka short drive) Martin didn't complain or grump at me like some other drivers of competing services have done in the past. Martin was a safe driver and I was never fearful during our short trip. Shortly after I got home and was unpacking I discovered that I left my briefcase in the cab :-O Martin had already left but realized this and drove back to my address after a fare into the surrounding area ! When he came to the door and had my case I was relieved and surprised that a cab driver would go the extra mile. Very happy with Martin. Arrived at LAX in the middle of the night. We got a United taxi. The driver either had an odd sense of humor or was just misogynistic. I mentioned how I like the classical music he was playing, and he scoffed, "WOMEN" and changed the channel. I was traveling with my husband, who he tried to bond with re: women and their bad taste. He asked if we wanted to get home faster or more cheaply, what was the priority. I answered faster since it was 1a and had been a long day of traveling. Again, "WOMEN you don't care about the money." We rode in silence for the rest of the trip. I paid. I tipped him 15%, which is a snub coming from me. I automatically tip absolutely everyone 20% (even when they suck). Driver took me to my location and dropped me off in a unsafe location on a one way street. No crosswalk! I arrived at 245am into Los Angeles last night and got into taxi car 1442 and the driver first berated me because of the weight of my luggage. He was then upset that the distance I was going was only 20 min from the airport. He said I would have to pay a base rate of $25 and wanted cash. He then wouldn't put in my address and kept insisting that he knew where he was going. He was going to turn into the wrong building and I told him that and then had to tell him where my address was. Long wait for Uber, so we were going to give taxis another try - unfortunately, the driver in 161 reminded us immediately why people are using ride share instead of traditional taxis. He attempted to tell us the ride to our spot was a "flat rate" $40. We had taken another taxi in the past month or so and the meter rate was under $30 - We asked him to just run the meter and he refused, so we had to get out of the car. Why would a driver refuse to use the meter? This type of service is literally exactly why ride share is taking over the industry - how have taxi drivers not picked up on it and adjusted to offer a better experience? read more

We just had the ride from hell from LAX 9.24.21 with cab driver #0137. He drove like a bat out of hell angry, accelerating like mad, slamming on the brakes at several stops. When I asked him to be careful he blamed the brakes and got really resentful for the request. When we get out he throws one of the bags so hard it falls over, doesn't apologize. As well, informs us at the end of the ride that he only accepts cash. We're happy to be home unscathed but we'll go back to app-based rides. read more

Driver of car 961 was super confrontational with my wife and I when leaving LAX. We did not tip him for his terrible service and he then attacked us verbally by calling us mother fuckers! He continued with..."Fuck you guys!!! Do you have any idea how expensive gas is out here? This is not like Lyft and Uber and they will take a charge on the credit card. I have a family!" He went off on us giving us the middle finger and made my wife super uncomfortable. At the time it was supposed to arrive, I got a call from the dispatcher saying that no taxis were available, and I should call another taxi company. This is the second time they did this to me. This company us terrible i got a voucher from the airport to use to take a can back after a cancelled flight, called to book 20 mins ahead of time to take me to the airport, was told a can would be there and no one came, called to check and the order and they didnt have the order, placed again and said someone would be there in a few mins, no one came, called again and said there were no drivers, i had to call a lyft and pay out of pocket rather than using the voucher from the airline. I am accustomed to using Lyft and Uber and found myself wanting to spread the business across the transportation services at the Burbank airport and decided to use United Taxi. It seemed quick and my phone was dying -- I was afraid I'd lose contact with the apps. So I approached a nice fellow at the Taxi area who said he was available - I told him my address and the that it was a mile and a half down Hollywood Way - I asked approximately how much it would be. He said 10 bucks - maybe 12 max. Cool, I jumped in his car and after we were on the road, he informed me that the fair was going to be 20 dollars - for a short trip minimum. I said, "excuse me?" He repeated himself and a dozen remarks flew through my head. But I simply said, ok and made a note to myself. ...what a jag off. Never again. read more

It was easter weekend and of course the ride shares were super busy. Didn't wish to wait so decided to take a cab from LAX. I already knew the driver was sussing me out to see if I was new to LA so he could decide what to charge. He took a longer way to my apartment and I called him out on it. He over charged me by $20. I didn't complain because it was a holiday weekend so I kind of expect to pay more but I was really pissed off when we arrived at my apartment and he said his credit/debit card terminal was not working and he required cash. I didn't have enough cash on me to cover his scam fare. I admonished him about not advising me that his pay terminal was down before I got into the cab. He offered to drive me to an ATM. I declined and asked him if he had a manual machine he could run the card on and call for authorization. He said he did not have a manual machine. He asked me how much cash I had on me. I had $15 bucks and he said "That's not enough." He said he can drive me to an ATM and not charge me for that ride. I had just come off a long flight with my elderly mother and refused. I suggested he call his dispatch to come up with an alternative. He said the network was down all day. I called BS and suggested he try it. I ran my card on his terminal and it worked fine. These antics do nothing for United Taxi's business but deter customers from returning. I will wait for Lyft the next time, and should I ever require a taxi again I will never use United Taxi. Family of three for a ride from a Century Blvd hotel to LAX. Five bags, two briefcases and two purses. Driver showed up, new minivan (front desk had requested this for us), said no, I won't take you, my cab is new. I said, really? I'll load the bags carefully and tip well. He said no, I said kiss my ass and then texted Uber. Driver there in five, all transported to Delta Priority One, $25.00 tip to driver, I loaded and unloaded bags. I am teetering b/t 1 & 2 stars. I gave them 2 because driving a taxi is a difficult job. Last week I had 4 rides and 2 of the cars were acceptable 2 were disgusting, dirty, filthy actually and United Taxi should hold their drivers to a standard of cleanliness and presentation e.g., no seats missing, if you post "no smoking" your taxi should NOT smell like an ashtray. Also, the 2 drivers who took the long way claiming it was better because less traffic, I'm on to you. Still, I didn't want to take my car, gas being so expensive and I tipped generously because I just feel sorry for these drivers. Clean up your act drivers. Have some pride. I used the website to schedule a pick up and decided to call a few hours later just to confirm. The morning of pick up at 4am no car arrived. At 4:05am I received a text claiming a driver was 5 minutes eta. 2 minutes later received a call from the taxi administration exclaiming she knew I had a confirmed pick up time but the driver would be 10-15 minutes for arrival because they were coming from another city zone and didn't have any other drivers. My question is: What's the sense in making a confirmed pick up if their not honoring it? In addition to if they knew they didn't have enough drivers why not call before the pick up time so I could have made other plans to get to my flight on time? My debit card was stolen by my cab driver, twice, within a five month period. In both instances I hailed a cab on Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood on my way home from the bar. The first time, he swiped my card and asked me to enter my pin. Stupidly, I did. He then told me it didn't work. He then accepted the limited amount of cash I had and wished me a happy birthday, as it was my birthday. I left the cab thinkn, nice cabbie! Didn't notice he never returned my card. The next day I discovered four separate withdrawals of $100 each and two purchases at two different gas stations over night. I was scammed. Filed a claim with my bank, identified the driver from the atm camera photos, and was reimbursed. This was November. It happened again last weekend. Stupidly, of course, I hailed a United Independent Taxi after the bar without cash and only my debit card on SMB. This time the cab driver made the transaction and returned my receipt wrapped around two business cards, rather than my debit card. I didn't notice. Same exact charges were made over night. NO IDEA how he used my card as I did not give him my pin. The bank will not reimburse me for this one, and treated me as if I was the criminal, rather than the victim. That ended up being a $485 cab ride. You've been warned. These drivers know exactly what they're doing. And Wells Fargo are fuckers. read more

Now, I'm not usually chatty, but this guy was special! We talked about Hollywood old and new. And he proudly told me all about his car. I am amazed that all independent taxi drivers don't have a Prius...and in car cameras to protect themselves! $50 from LAX to Hollywood with a bit of traffic. But, I was home within 40 minutes and was happy to pay him +20%. That beats the crap out of the hell that is SuperShuttle any day, at any price! While she tried to mention this to him he was ranting about Ethiopian politics. Finally was able to get his attention and point out that he had taken her to the wrong part of Los Angeles. It was then she noticed he had never turned on his GPS. He admitted that he was completely lost and finally turned on the GPS and drove wildly to get her back to our apartment. He billed her $100 for a $60 ride and drove off so quickly she was unable to secure her luggage and lost a pair of shoes given to her by her mother. I called the company as soon as I heard what happened and they told me there was nothing they could do but they would have customer service call me this morning - but they did not call. I called this afternoon and was greeted by the rudest phone service I have ever encountered in my life. No one would pass me through to customer service - one time I was told "they were too busy" and the second time "he's probably on a break" - I requested to speak to a supervisor and the person on the phone transferred me to a voice mail mid sentence. I am still trying to reclaim this money and her belongings. I have not been able to reach anyone at the company that will talk to me. I have kept the receipt that shows how many miles out of the way this driver went but what good is a receipt when the company will not talk to you? Made my Mom wait in her wheel chair at first for 30 minutes (first time coming home since her stroke.) Called and said that when you reserve online that you need to call in to verify(never said that). Said they would have a taxi out by 3. Called at 3 to ensure we would have a taxi. The person said their isn't any taxis available and that they weren't sure when their would be one. Called again 10 minutes later to complain and they said that they had a taxi ready. Had to cancel because my mom spent over an hour in a wheelchair waiting and was having terrible back pain. Now she can't come home. Thanks a lot United Taxi. Great job. read more
