I usually get it with their steamed vegetables love that the server gave me extra butter. One thing I will get every time I visit Mel's is the chicken soup. Nothing puts me in a better mood than chicken soup. Dealing with soup. I am 16 years past 60. I decided that when I turned 60, there is an unwritten law that you must eat soup. I still obey this rule. I like this location because of the total 50s vibe on the exterior.

Man, I love Bonita Mel's. It's got everything I need from a diner - lots of choices, fair prices,…read moredecent service, and good food good portions. I'm a pescatarian, so it's hard to find a diner with enough options to fit the bill. Mel's does. I am much closer to the Naples locations, but the Bonita Mel's is so much cleaner and nicer. Some dishes are made with different/better ingredients here. Presentation is better. The interior is really nice and actually comfortable. The staff here is really great, too. We make the drive for those reasons. I tend to get shrimp in various forms, favorite being Boom Boom (although they're too heavy on sauce). Grouper sandwich is good. The fried apps are really really good. Salads are good. Husband likes the soups. Burgers and other sandwiches are repeat orders at my table. Most things on the menu seem to be hand cut/made. Certain things are locally sourced (says on back of menu). I think it's good food and large portions for the price. For the area, definitely!

They were packed and they were doing their best to get people in and out! It would be legit if they added big ceiling fans to the outside seating area for days like this to keep the air circulating. We got a variety of dishes: the chicken fried pork tenderloin, eggs Benedict, chicken & waffles, the kids pancakes, the kids breakfast sandwich, and fried okra to share! Everything was fresh, hot, and fantastic. The only thing I don't recommend is the kids breakfast sandwich. It is just eggs on white bread! My favorite was the chicken & waffles. My kids ate half of it, it was that good! Our service was amazing from both the hostess and our server. I definitely recommend and would come back in a heartbeat. Even though we didn't get to sit inside, we went in to look around and it's super adorable. I love the ambiance of an old fashioned diner, especially the bar that overlooks the busy kitchen!

Love that! Decided on lunch. The order: grilled fish sandwich with extra lettuce; a side of Mac and cheese (how can you not get Mac and cheese at a diner? It is what diners are to be judged on!!); and a piece of banana cream pie Probably one of the best grilled fish sandwiches I've ever had. It had the lettuce, some coleslaw to keep it interesting and a piece of fresh grilled fish. The Mac and cheese was death row meal worthy! Loved the banana cream pie too! My waiter Avery steered me right on the selection. Went back another day for lunch. I had the fish on the Ellie Mae salad and it was good. And the key lime pie. Avery waited on me both times and is a gem! Very pleasant, attentive, and dead in with his suggestions. Wish I could return! Need to try the breakfast!!

In 2007, I commissioned a small job from Sew Shore -- custom embroidered hats for my husband and…read moreour immediate family to celebrate his new boat, *The Mighty Terrapin*. At the time, the company was owned by my brother, Steve Sherman, who founded Sew Shore in 1986 and poured his heart into building the business. My husband loved those hats almost as much as he loved his boat. Sadly, we lost my incredible brother in 2019. After his passing, his longtime colleague, Jason Marshall, took over the business. Fast forward to 2026: *The Mighty Terrapin* needed repairs that would have cost more than the boat was worth, so we made the bittersweet decision to replace her with *The Mighty Terrapin II*. And of course, a new boat meant my husband needed new hats. I reached out to Jason -- whom I hadn't seen since my brother's Celebration of Life -- and asked if there was any chance the original embroidery file still existed. Within 20 minutes, he found it. I was honestly stunned. I contacted him on April 13, and by April 23 the hats had arrived via UPS from Naples, Florida, to Northern Virginia. I gave them to my husband for his birthday, and when I told him that Jason had GIFTED the hats to him, he was speechless. It wasn't just the hats that meant so much. It was the kindness. The loyalty. The fact that, years later, Jason still cared enough to help preserve a small piece of my brother's legacy. In a world where genuine customer service and personal connection can feel increasingly rare, Jason went above and beyond. If you are looking for custom embroidery, I cannot recommend Sew Shore / United Uniforms highly enough. Jason is doing my brother, Steve, proud.
