First off, NEVER GIVE YOUR LAPTOP PASSWORD TO ANYONE! The actual Apple store would NEVER need this info from you, therefore neither should other "authorized store" I know they're listed as an Apple approved business, but they really shouldn't for various reasons. Background story, my laptop screen stopped working. I have a 13-inch, 2016 MacBook Pro, 2 thunderbolt 3 ports and my display backlight stopped working. This has been listed on Apple's recall service program as of 1/15/2020. My AppleCare has terminated since it's been over 5 years, but on Apple's recall page it clearly states that all recall items have 3 years to get a free repair due to the recall if this is your issue, whichever is longer. Here are some red flags: 1. They told me I was wrong and that recalls don't have this policy, therefore my laptop wouldn't be covered. (Maybe I look like a young female who doesn't know anything, but I do. So I didn't fall for it). They offered to "look into it" if I gave them 7 days to see if I qualified or not -- I said sure. 2. After taking down all of my info they asked for my laptop password aka ACCESS TO EVERYTHING ON MY LAPTOP. Not ONCE does Apple EVERRRRRR ask you for your password to you laptop. DO NOT DO IT. This is how people's information, photos, everything gets leaked. They should be able to do everything without logging in. 3. I was told it would cost $120 for them to try and see what was wrong. Plus the $500ish fee to replace the parts. But $120 to maybe see what was wrong?? (also the family in front of me were not given a diagnostic fee, sooo I'm not sure what their laptop issue was but why is there this disprency). 4. Lastly they were just so rude to me from the moment I got there. When it was my turn to speak with them, they asked why I didn't make an appointment. To which, I let them know I had--it was 20 mins ago because the line was long. But the rudeness is something I can deal with but the others especially red flag #2...those are NOT ok. I digress. I ended up speaking with Apple Support online, asked to mail my laptop to them to have it looked at. They shipped me a box, I sent them my laptop WITHOUT having to give them any passwords, they fixed my recalled laptop for FREE, and I got my laptop back all in less than 7 days. Please be careful with your things. read more

My screen cracked and unfortunately if you live in LA, most if not all of the Apple Genius Bars are closed. I resorted to getting quotes from every repair shop out there and I was quoted nearly 2x from Unitek. Some places didn't even have the screen in stock. So of course, I came here and it is a verified Apple Retailer so that game me more comfort. 10 days later, screen is good as new. The only negative is that I called to ask what time they closed so I can pick up my device. I was given a 530pm time so I get there at 515pm and to my surprised they closed at 5pm. Apple Support recommended I take my MacBook Pro computer to Unitek in Pasadena, California to diagnose and repair it. Unitek is an Apple Premier Partner, Premium Service Provider and Apple Certified repair store with multiple locations in California. Unitek at 705 N Lake Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91104 was the closest store to me in Ridgecrest, California. I called to make sure that Unitek would be able to work on my vintage MacBook Pro Computer. Amazingly Isaac said, "Unitek welcomes walk-in customers!" I told Isaac when I would arrive the next day. I explained I was driving over 140 miles one way and wanted to make sure he could look at my computer, diagnose it, then hopefully order any parts necessary for the repair. Since my MacBook Pro computer was a Mid-2012 model (it may have been challenging to even get the parts.) I was happy and grateful that I found a Certified Apple Repair store willing to work on my computer! Isaak listened to the problems with the computer. Then Isaac took my MacBook Pro computer and started working on it right away! After diagnosing the problem, Isaac replaced the cable that goes to the hard drive. My MacBook Pro computer has worked perfectly ever since! Isaac explained the cable to the hard drive had been replaced. Isaac even had a spare hard drive cable and installed it! Isaac told me, "No data was lost and the MacBook Pro computer was working fine." However, I was relieved that the computer was backed up on an external hard drive before it crashed. I am happy and grateful that Isaac was able to repair my computer in a little over an hour! Now it is time for me to buy a refurbished, or new Apple MacBook Pro computer As Soon As Possible! Isaac was a pleasure to work with and did a fantastic job! Isaac even let me use the High-Speed WiFi in the store to back up my MacBook Pro on the external hard drive after the repair. I highly recommend Isaac and Unitek as a trusted Apple Premier Partner, Premium Service Provider and Apple Certified computer store! Apple recommended this authorized provider. I took it in to take advantage of the keyboard recall program. Turned it in on Monday. I got a text today Tuesday telling me it's ready to pickup. Turnaround was one and a half days!! Fast turnaround even though they warned it might be 3 to 5 days... What what??? Thank you to the techs at Unitek. Five stars for fixing my Macbookpro so quickly. Thanks for the text messages keeping me apprised of the progress. Thanks for creating a user file that you can access but keeps my data private. I'll be back here on Yelp to update on the quality of the repair...but so far. .impressive! Okay so I have retrieved my laptop...it looks like new!! It's a 2017, the recall is good for 4 years, so just got in under the wire for the program. Unitek, at no charge, replaced the keyboard, the tracking pad, the battery. Yay!! When the warranty ended, naturally issues occurred.. the keys got sticky... the S N D C rubbed off...and sometimes letters typed just plain ol refused to appear...ugh...luckily I found out about the recall program in October, but since I rely on my computer I had to find consecutive 5 days to do without...very hard to be without, so had to wait until the holidays. Luckily, Unitek at this location is open regular hours except Sundays...they take walk ins like me...as well as appointments. And there's parking in back. They share the building and a small rear parking lot with the GoodWill at the corner of Lake and Orange Grove. I work in Healthcare and use my MacBook for work. I always take my MacBook home at the end of the day and on my way to work and sometimes, I have to make a stop or two on my way. I took my 2017 15" MBP in for keyboard repair. Was told it'd take 3~5 business days because Apple doesn't overnight the keyboard parts, then pleasantly surprised when they turned it around in 2 business days. So far I can't tell the difference between their repairs and ones I would get from Apple retail store. The staff are friendly (shout out to Peter ), and I really like how they kept me inform of the repair statuses via text messages. I was told I could get my battery fixed and serviced within the same day - and I made an appointment and went in for it, they said 10-15 business days. Do not attempt to get your computer repaired at this place. I dropped my computer off on Monday and was told it would take 3 days for diagnosis, 4 or 5 days for repair. 3 days came and went. Nothing. No call, no email. Finally, I called on Friday and was told they were just getting around to doing the diagnosis and it would be ready soon. When I was finally contacted with the diagnosis and approved the work, I was told they'd order the part right away but probably wouldn't get the part until Monday. I was told I'd be contacted with an update on Saturday, Monday at the latest. Saturday and Monday came and went. When I tried calling on Monday, their phone system hung up on me after 3 rings. Every time I called (5ish times) (but these people do electronics repairs? But their phone system is broken??). I emailed them on Tuesday, and was told they had gotten the part but still hadn't begun the work. My computer is my livelihood. These people followed up with me twice, and only because it was directly initiated by me contacting them first. They contacted me once to ask if I want to move forward with the $500 repair, and the other time was to refuse to service my computer because I was mad about their customer service. Let that be a lesson to you, too. Don't dare confront them on their lack of communication or not adhering to the schedule; instead of apologizing or taking responsibility, they'll refuse to do the work on the computer that has been in their possession for 8+ days. So much ego, so little effectiveness. Zero customer service or responsibility. Stay away. Stay far away. read more

I am so glad I found this place! When I had to replace the battery on my Mac, a couple of people suggested I replace it on my own because it would be cheaper. I am not tech savvy at all and I am not going to risk it to save a few dollars. Unitek has email and text update features, which is very convenient. Throughout the whole process, I interacted with 3 different individuals there (I think one of them was the manager or owner) but all 3 of them provided great customer service and answered all of my questions and concerns. They were so patient with me and understanding of the time crunch I was in with needing my Mac for work. If I ever need services on my Mac in the future, I will def come here again. Apple recommended Unitek to repair a known keyboard issue with the MacBook Pro. They were very accommodating to my production schedule, received the parts in one day, repaired same day, quickly and professionally. The staff was friendly and very helpful. When I realized that the same exact keyboard issue was happening to an older model MacBook Pro that was just outside the time limit, they were very helpful to guide me. Apple made an exception and I was able to get my keyboard fixed. They once again were accommodating, worked within my production schedule, were fast and courteous. Both charging ports on my Macbook stopped working. I am a full time student doing ~zoom school~ right now, and I teach fitness classes online. There was no way I was going to make it without a laptop. The Apple store had an 8 day wait just to be seen for an initial appointment. I wasn't super sure about Unitek having never heard of it, but I was desperate and they had an appointment available the next morning. They had the part I needed in stock and I got my laptop fixed within 24 hours. It was a bit more expensive than I expected, but I also did not purchase Apple Care so I guess I kind of accepted this fate. Had a coworker spill her drink on my laptop & took it in for repair. The laptop came back fixed but with an additional deep scratch that this guy (who I am assuming is the owner, he was short, had dark hair) came from the back all aggressive denying that the scratch came from them & yelled that it's a "scratch free zone"...where they have tools to dismantle electronics & it's a "scratch free zone"? A little accountability & professionalism can go a very long way. I've had this laptop for 5 years without a scratch & he wanted to pin the blame on me?! I keep this in a soft sleeve laptop case & I know damn well when I took it in, there was no cosmetic damage. I asked the front desk guy (the one with glasses) for his name & he hesitated and said "Brian". Sure. Was this clown gonna cover up for his clown boss? What a joke. Don't waste your business on these clowns & their poor handling of customer electronics & customer service. 2 stars for the poor offer or replacing it with a refurbished screen to which I rejected as I need this for work & can't waste time on waiting a week more. I hate doing negative reviews but I did want to warn people. For some reason just felt off about this place when I first came in and was greeted by the rep. He was extremely negative and didn't seem knowledgeable about several things that other Apple reps have communicated to me in the process of trying to resolve this issue. I had to come back the next day and once again felt something in my gut was wrong. He didn't seem to know what to do with my computer and said it would maybe not be covered by Apple even though the issue was clearly a faulty keyboard issue Apple has acknowledged. I had to bring this point up with him and then he agreed that i was potentially correct. I just felt weird and didn't trust him. Furthermore as I was waiting I overheard a customer to my right come in with broken iPods. She told the customer service rep that she had brought them here before to get fixed and yet they were still broken. The rep was in my opinion a bit rude- and said well why did you come here? To which the girl said Apple told me to. I didn't pay attention to how it got resolved but knew I needed to get out of there. I found another appointment miraculously 15 min away walked in and the guy immediately saw the issue typed in my serial number and said as long as we don't find water damage this is fully covered. Completely different experience than the previous place. Just be careful with them and trust your gut. read more

Absolutely terrible! First of all you can't find the address because there is no signage anywhere. They just have a computer print out of their name and hours of operation. Secondly, I get a text letting me know my laptop is ready and when I go pick it up, they're closed even though their hours are posted on the door and online. Had I known they don't honor their hours of operation I would've taken it to the Apple Store. The owner doesn't seem to care about serving their customers. If you need your laptop for work, you're better off taking it to the Apple Store because they actually care about their customers. I filed a formal complaint through Apple so if anyone else has a problem with this crappy third party company they now have a track record. read more

I used to go to Unitek in Santa Monica which blew the Apple Store Genius Bar away. Now I moved out here and went to the Pasadena location and they were amazing. Everyone is extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
