I'm 5 " 135 lbs and very disabled due to post polio syndrome . Can do personal cares only . Yet two nurses falsified witness statements saying I grabbed a 160lb stocky young nurse and dragged her around the roomtotally impossible. But that wasnt part of their criteria. Old boomer nurse former state inspector, claims analyst. I told Dr Dr defransco , I was up crying all night .,. Told three different staff and gave state their names . I reported to abuse advocate nurse. She agreed with the falsified witness . Got all my records and billing . Reconciled everything . Those two false statements were the only documentation in my chart about my abuse. Where's the missing documentation? Dr defransco knew . No documentation from him about it? I was so upset he offered me to go home early which I took. But I had been telling everyone about my abuse . But he failed to tell me my labs were not even in the low range. . Found that on my labs . Not a safe discharge . no documentation in any records I had called my gp after the abuse . He was the only one that protected me . He documented every word I said. Found Dr defrancso and methowest er billed the highest trauma code for my visit a trauma code? That way they get paid more for their services but u get stuck with what insurance doesn't pay . That called fraud. I was charged for many services I never received yet Medicare paid for . Dr defransco charged full h & p when he never touched me . Missing controlled meds I never got but were billed no documentation about my requests for care, my abuse , my trauma, my crying all night ? They did have a Medicaid review due to this . This is my opinion only but I'veI done this type of reviews for many years my opinion only . This is a total abuse coverup and fraud story . But that just my opinion. I'm just warning people . With Reynolds s restructuring the board of nursing is behind and due to the high number of an abuse cases in nursing homes we are in a real crisis! . She has a significant cardiac history, including a double bypass and heart valve replacement. Despite repeatedly informing staff of her symptoms and medical history, she remained in the waiting room for more than 8 hours, until she eventually left without receiving care. During the 8 hours that she sat in the waiting room her concerns were dismissed rather than taken seriously. Most troubling, a nurse stated to her that patients often "abuse ambulance services" and indicated that my mother was not a priority. While we understand that emergency departments must triage patients based on severity, it is difficult to understand how a patient presenting with chest pain and a complex cardiac history could wait so long without care. This post is not intended to criticize individual caregivers. It is intended to raise concerns about the patient experience in the ER and to seek a better care experience for patients. My hope is that Methodist Hospital will review this incident and ensure that patients with serious cardiac histories and concerning symptoms receive timely assessment and care. Plain and simple, what happened today at Methodist Hospital was bad care, and a patient considered as a number versus a person in need of help. We can do better.

My mom died when she was 100. The morning of her death, 9/22, she was talking - alert and…read moreoriented, it was charted. My mom's daughter-in-law was with her. They were just chatting. My mom had a pain score of 3/10, according to the medical record. Instead of giving her Tylenol for her arthritis pain, she was given Dilaudid 2 mg and Ativan 0.5 mg at 938 AM. At 10:30 AM it was charted she was sleeping but easily arousable. At 11:30 when I was present, she was unresponsive to any stimuli. Her 92 year old brother and sister-in-law from Duluth came to visit about 4:30. She never awaken and died that evening at 11:25 PM. There is a Black Box Warning against giving these two drug categories together. They can cause respiratory depression, coma and death. This occurred at Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines. These people we trusted to protect her, gave her drugs that most probably killed her. I said to my mom "see you in the morning" when I left the night before. I failed to anticipate the danger my mom was in from her caregivers. My mom had her daughter, (me - an RN) and her daughter-in-law, visiting much of the time. Still, she died from an error. Someone had to prescribe it - a physician, NP or PA. Someone had to fill it - a pharmacist, and someone had to decide that a 100 year old with wacky liver function tests that had a pain score of only 3, needed Dilaudid and Ativan. Twice I have contacted the hospital. I didn't hear anything after the first complaint. After the second complaint, two nurses called on two different days. I have received no contact information, no follow-up, no apology, no explanation. There is an Iowa law called the Candor Law. The hospital and the Iowa Clinic could invoke this. But they haven't. My mom was pretty special to everyone who knew her. She lived independently, she did her own cooking and chores, she and I went out for lunch 2-3 times/week. She was engaged with the world. She did not deserve this. I was with her while she was dying. She was choking on her secretions. I don't know why these drugs were ordered; I don't know why they were given. Whatever reason, she was alert and oriented at 938 AM and unresponsive 2 hours later and dead that evening.

I know this is a job or career for them but for their patients, it is their life. And it means the world that they treat it as such. It is encouraging that there are human beings in this world that understand their job is to work with people during one of the most trying times and have complete compassion and understanding for that. Dr. Jawa and his staff are no exception. When appropriate he would talk to her person to person, not always just doctor to patient. We really appreciated that. Her diagnose and treatments brought my mom (and myself) in contact with many different doctors and healthcare professionals. We always felt heard and found that so many of them would take ample amount of time to answer any questions. I know some days were extremely tough for my mom but I personally witnessed true professionalism with a perfect amount of humanization. In addition, medically I feel like they have taken great care of my mom and her cancer is now gone! We can't thank John Stoddard enough.

To get a Dr. as a new person is a minimum of 6 months but on most told a year. I said want if you are sick and have more than one health problem. They said go to an Urgent care. Made no sense Urgent care takes urgent care not diabetes or thyroid. I view the place as unhelpful and uncaring. They wanted me to go somewhere else. Medical care is really sad because you can't get help there
