Tired of dealing with Unity Point. Medical staff treat you like cattle, ER does same thing as Dr office but charge way more and corporate couldn't care less about what happens as long as they get paid. Our medical needs were never even resolved! If you get overcharged, they "look into it" enough to decline any option except pay in full. They absolutely will not take anything into consideration. It's exhausting. I will NEVER use any of their "services" again. Our entire family has switched out of Unity Point and will never go back.​ read more

I waited months to get into this clinic. They have a CMA that the doctor and office manager hide behind. She has no problem telling you where you can get services for a GI. She is working beyond her scope of practice. I am without a doctor now, with some critical problems. They will leave you hanging. Do not wait months to get in. Go to an office that cares . read more

If you are needing medical help and you are in Des Moines, if you are able drive an hour east to Iowa City, do so. The help you will receive at Unity Point methodist is mediocre at best. If you find yourself there good luck to you, you will need it read more

Regarding Unity Point/Methodist West. My wife had both knees replaced this year with Dr. Bremner was her surgeon. The entire experience involving pre-op assessment, the surgery and follow up was EXCELLENT! All staff members and of course, Dr. Bremner were outstanding to deal with. No issues with billing. My wife says the nursing care was very good following the surgery and the food was outstanding. Our physical therapist was outstanding. I am so sorry we don't recall his name. He was a 60 year old gentleman and was the epitomy of professionalism!!!!! All in all, surgery is surgery but my wife's experience at this facility made the entire experience much better than we expected. We HIGHLY recommend them! read more

I was in a MAJOR motorcycle accident, and arrived by ambulance at this hospital. I couldn't walk to the bathroom let alone get home, they tried to administer Fentanyl to me after I advise them I did not want it. The nurse came in saying she had pain meds I asked what kind, she told me where I told that I stated before I did not want those. She argued with me about it and waited over an hour to get me something else. After that, the nurse was extremely hostile towards me and released me after less than eight hours. When I tried to get dressed, I told her I was going to pass out and throw up. I wanted to rest her response was that I needed to hurry up cause I could not stay there and had to leave. They told me I had just a broken arm and two broken fingers, but four days later I ended up back in a different hospital where I found out I had six fractured ribs, a cracked sternum and major breathing issues and ended up having to stay in that hospital on oxygen for two days before being released after four days. when I was at unity point Methodist, I advise them I was having trouble breathing, MULTIPLE TIMES I even told the emt. I was covered in bruises and lacerations and they still chose to release me instead of hold me for 24 hours and do a secondary scan even though I kept telling them I was having trouble breathing. I will never go here again, I watched them force out a homeless man who didn't understand what was going on. I am seeking legal action for malpractice for their lack of empathy, attempt to force pain meds on me, and incorrect diagnoses. From what I understand they do this a lot so if you're a lawyer let me know! Photos anywhere from 4 days up to a few weeks after accident. read more

Poor customer service - bad client experience. I very rarely give online reviews but this one deserves it. We'll also be filing a complaint with the BBB. My girlfriend went for an exam. Three times she was given an estimate for the cost of the office visit and the lab work. After the exam was complete she then waited for 20 minutes while the office worker researched the costs of the labs so that she could decide to approve them or not. Finally, the office worker came up with no information and repeated the estimate. (Fyi, she could have waited one month and seen her usual doctor in Florida so that is why she was comfortable canceling the lab work if it would be too costly here.) The total bill for the office visit and the labs came in at 3 - 5 times higher than the estimate. It is not just that the estimate was grossly under-estimated, but she was very clear that she wanted the details before being charged more than expected. I don't know if the staff was dishonest, incompetent or just didn't care to follow up and verify the fees but it was a costly mistake for us at a time where there is no extra money floating around. Also, the office worker I spoke to today was quite rude. read more

I love the hospital and workers they took care of me and made sure I was ready to go home. They did their best to make sure I would be safe in my home. Care was excellent food was better then surrounding hospitals read more

Terrible experience with nurses and staff. Prep Rooms are terribly small - so small the nurse and a patient are crammed and she can't do her job. The operation I has decided as gal bladder and the staff was disappointed it was a small procedure, so much that their care was alienating and not helpful. I will avoid this hospital in the future. read more

By far my favorite hospital in the metro! They are big, have a world class staff, convenient parking, and just all around organized and clean. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Although there are always packed parking lots, the walk into the facilities are not that bad, which is important in the winter. Their food is amazing, both room service and the cafeteria. (Better in the cafeteria). All of these points are nice, but the most important thing is their world class staff and technology! Great hospital, UnityPoint! read more

Unity Point Health, Hospital billing. The worst professional employees, ever! Their communication methods really need to be revamped as well. I received two letters (even after my insurance company paid my invoice) stating the following "Your insurance company has advised us that they will not make payment for the service you received due to an outstanding issue." ...really? So, I called my insurance company, again, and verified that the invoice has been paid. My insurance company 'tried' to contact UnityPoint Health and their phones were turned off at 8:00 am. I tried to call all morning to no avail, the phone was off well after 9:00 am. Finally, afternoon their phones were turned back on, but hold times were very long. I chose to allow them to call me back by entering my call-back information, but still no callback. I called again the following day, and again long hold times, so again, selected the callback option. I finally received a callback from Dillion. I conference-called my insurance company to get my amount balance straightened out. My insurance company verified my balance due. Afterward, I asked Dillion for a contact person to submit a complaint to, and he stated there is not a person to submit a complaint, he was the only person I could complain to, and couldn't understand why I would have a complaint. I indicated I have many issues when it comes to UnityPoint, this was just the tip of the iceberg. He became irate and could only come up with excuse after excuse and more excuses, he then HUNG UP on me. WoW! read more

The nursing staff at N. Ankeny Urgent Care is unprofessional and childish. They do very generic tests so they can easily miss things. Don't dare question them on anything, as their bruised egos will meet you with vengeance. I got screamed at, over powered, talked over, made fun of, personally attacked, and hung up on when I reached out to get more answers on a very serious illness, pneumonia, That's almost killed me. They never once took me serious. Then when I called back in 5 days later, after my conditio had gotten worse, they send me to a war horse to fight me. She had guns out. Then once she realized I wasn't putting up with her unacceptable behavior, she hung up on me. She was yelling at a very sick person, that alone is not acceptable behavior. They need to get rid of that nasty nurse and they'll be better off. 1 bad nurse ruins it for all the others. What a joke. That's what happened to me. read more

I used the Methodist ER back in Jan-2016. I was having vision problems (one of my eyes was crossed over) with pain running up and down the side of head, sore throat, ear pain, etc. I didnt know if I was having a stroke, or some kind of severe infection. They CT scanned my skull and told me I had sinusitus with mastoiditis. Instead of treating my infection then and there, they sent me home. They reffered me to Wolf Eye Clinic for my vision problem. Wolf Eye Clinic ran tests and came up stumped, suggesting I go to the Mao Clinic. They also contacted my regular doctor suggesting that I might have vasculitus. I told them at Wolf that I thought I had a severe infection of some type. BUT... needlessly in Feb I underwent a temporal artery biopsy, btw It wasn't even a regular doctor at Wolf who suggested to my doctor that I might have vasculitus. No one in this chain would listen, or apply their critical thinking skills. After the biopsy I was still having SEVERE pain along with a very swollen throat and other symtoms. Anyways, I ended up going into a walk-in clinic to have my throat treated, and kudos to the clinic doctor for listening to what I had to say, and then analyzing the information. After a few days on an anti-biotic my symptoms subsided greatly. A few days later I finally got in to see my ENT who ended up switching me to a more potent antibiotic. (more details to this story, but too long for a review) My entire take on this was that the doctor in the Methodist ER could have saved me a lot of pain and suffering by treating my obvious infection then and there, BUT.. I am not a doctor, so you decide. Point is THEY DID NOT SOLVE MY PROBLEM. PS, I recently found out I have an abscessed tooth, but if it was causing problems in Jan...the ER doctor should have spotted it with an X-ray. One other thing that I find strange is - if vasculitus is even suspected then the standard course is to begin treatment with a steroid such as predisone, but that did not happen. read more
