Our Whirpool year 2010 Fridge/Freezer's coller keep stopping by its self , we would just usually switchbit back off then after 3-5min turn it on again and it will work. However, it kept doing it again so wr decided to get it repair. Boris came within 2 hours after we called. He was very professional, honest. He fixed the issue and did a fantastic job and we are cery positive that our fridge will last many more years with no issue. We are satusfied with his service and the value seem fair. I called a known contact who said he no longer did refrigerator repairs, but did have a good alternative reference. So I called Mike, and explained my water filter leakage problem. After asking me some questions, Mike clearly explained the two options available, and the accompanying costs. After scheduling a mutually agreeable date and time for the job, Igor punctually arrived to remedy my refrigerator issue. The job at hand was to install a new water filter at the bottom of the refrigerator. This would by pass the damaged water filter socket inside the top of the refrigerator, and render it disconnected and non functional. In essence, a wise, practical and economically sound solution to my headache. Igor worked meticulously and patiently, slowly and systematically, to professionally complete the job. I had used this company years ago and did not have a bad experience in the past. I called MIke, the owner, yesterday afternoon to have my 2 door refrigerator serviced as fridge was not cooling enough. Refrigerator is about 2 years old and just went out of warranty. Boris, the technician called and said he was in the area and can stop by around 7pm. This guy was incredibly rude and very distrustful. Before checking the problem, he immediately diagnosed it as motor problem and quoted around $499 and up to repair. I told him why so expensive, almost equivalent to a new unit. He said a new unit cost around a $1000. It seems like his mind was already set to get around $500 for the repair as he kept insisting on the price to fix the problem. I told him to please check as the motor seems to be working for the freezer was working fine. He kept insisting the freezer was not working. I showed him a broken part by the door and asked if that could be the problem. Without trying to check, he kept on insisting it was the motor problem. I had to show him and insist that he check the problem. He grudgingly did and cannot deny motor was not the problem. I asked again if the problem could just be due to the broken piece by the door. He still kept on insisting the problem was bigger than that. Since problem was not the motor, now he was saying maybe condenser or cooling and wanted to charge me $399 for it. I decided not to let him touched my refrigerator and told him to just leave. He wanted to charge me $85 as service call for doing nothing. I called his boss, Mike, to let him know the problem. Mike talked to him and offered to lower the fee to $250. I said no as I just cannot stand this guy. I simply lost my trust and do not like to do business with them. I called the Whirlpool/ Maytag company today to ask about the problem. Found out that the problem was really the broken part that I was showing that guy. I also found out the cost of the parts is only $40 and that there is actually an instructional YouTube video showing how to fix it. This horrible experience had helped me become more resourceful and not to fall into this kind of scam again! read more

We have been burned by a couple other appliance repair companies. One that just took our deposit and never ever came back to fix anything which was very disappointing so to say the least, I am very apprehensive about this sort of thing. The gentleman that came to have a look, was very attentive to our issues and was able to order the parts, which arrived two weeks after the assessment. I needed my dishwasher repaired and AIG had contacted them but they never showed up to my place. When they said they received an work order they made an excuse that they cannot do work on my dishwasher because another appliance that AIG scheduled had tried to repair it. Then why even bother working with AIG if you know that they have multiple repair companies they work with. I am not too sure about using this company. read more

We have a 20 year old Viking stove. spoke to Mike and he was confident it could be fixed after we gave him the serial number. Oleg came out the next day and was reassuring us that we had a quality stove- much better than the new ones today- and that it could be fixed-he had the parts with him. He was pleasant, knowledgeable and very personable- even a little funny. I would not hesitate to recommend Universal for any appliance that might need repair. UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE SERVICE: Deceptive, dishonest estimates and bad customer service In a time and climate of a challenged economy, where you should be motivated to help small business owners, you would think that customer service, honest and integrity would a mutual respect. It's sad to say that I have to warn future customers of price gouging, and misrepresentation on a repair estimate. After my wife spoke with Mike/Universal Appliance Service, he dispatched his repair man, Boris (Bors), who arrived at our residence around 1145am, to inspect our Whirlpool Dryer. After inspection, he recommended the repair, and rudely rushed my wife to make a decision. So I join my wife, and the Universal Appliance Service rep, strongly recommended the repair, and discouraged us of purchasing of a new Dryer, because the new computer technology, which has a short lifetime, and usually breaks down in two years. He said the repair on a newer model, can run up to $500 because of the electronic technology. He suggested that we go with his repair estimate of $350.00, plus tax. He never defined what the difference of labor and parts costs, which is so deceiving. We asked twice how much the repair service was, and he repeated $350 plus tax, did not define how much labor would costs. We understood the price for the dryer repair, but what is so dishonest, and disappointing is that he never gave us a written estimate, nor defined that $237.00 was strictly for labor (30minutes), and parts were $60.00. Wasn't until after my wife made a payment transaction, the Universal Appliance Service rep gave her a written receipt, that detailed that labor costs was $237.00, he was onsite for less than an hour. Why couldn't Universal Appliance Service be transparent with their business and provide a written estimates, because we had no problem paying for our services, but being deceived is no way to retain customer loyalty, and referrals. Lesson learned, as I've never wrote a Yelp review, this is my first, and unfortunately it evolves from a negative business transaction. After being a loyal customer of Universal Appliance for several years, and gave multiple customer referrals for Universal Appliance Service, we are very disappointed that Universal Appliance Service did not conduct transparent business, to disclose and explain that labor cost was $237per hour for labor. Once again bad business from Universal Appliance Service, and their loss on future business and referrals. Brian & Christine Winnetka MIke/Universal Appliance did a partial refund ($89), and he apologized for his employee deceiving us without a written estimate of the repair cost. The repair and service was still expensive, at $200 of labor for 30minutes, but we accepted his apology. read more

What a great experience. First, let me say that Mike didn't actually come to look at or fix my fridge. How can someone have a great experience not having his appliance repaired I hear you asking your yelp screen? Well, Mike spent time listening to the symptoms, he had me text him a picture of the little identification plate in my fridge. Then he called me back and explained it was a model that he probably couldn't fix. I appreciated that immensely. Honesty is a great trait in a repair person. But, here's what really showed me his attitude towards customer service. He then called me again later after he returned to his shop and had the opportunity to look my fridge up on-line. He gave me more info and told me a few things to try. All of this was after he knew I wasn't going to hire him and he would get no payment from me on this matter. He actually went out of his way to help me anyway. I cold called Mike just now cause my Samsung Fridge is acting up. Of course, I call him when it's 105 outside. He gave me a few tips on how to try and get it working. While i did this, he tried everything in his power to find someone to come and take a look. Unfortunately, he could not find anyone on such a hot day. The simple fact that Mike answered his phone and within 4 minutes of me calling, was finding someone to come and giving me troubleshooting steps at the same time, is amazing. when I first called the company they told me one price when they got to my house it was a total different price they want to charge me $450 at first then change it to 350 for a part that cost $16 for one and $35 for the other There's nothing I can do I was stuck with the job after he had open up the top of my wash machine when I call LG the park or 16.98 and the other part is $35.60. then the repair man told me they had to mock up the prices because they were not allowed to order from LG and when I first talk to him the service charge was $79 and it would be applied to the repair how can I get from $79 to $450-$350 and then he said that's the best he could do if he desn't repair it he's going to charge me 175 for service charge I'm so angry I don't know what to do They are liars it's really bad to Take a vantage of people I will never use them again. read more

So my fridge water dispenser stopped working suddenly and my home warranty just expired. I was contemplating buying a new fridge but I called this company instead and figured id give it a shot before shelling out the money for a new fridge. He asked me a few questions on the phone and told me to try disconnecting the fridge for a few hours since the lines on my ge fridge are know to cause this issue. And he did not want to charge me to come out for something so simple. If this didn't work to call him back and he'd gladly come. What a nice genuine guy. read more

I should have listed to the reviews...the REAL reviews about how inconsistent their pricing is. First, we were told that the service visit would cost $45. No problem. The gentleman gets here, and immediately can figure out that our refrigerator leaking is the Solenoid...a simple valve part. It took him 5 minutes, and that was with me turning on the water and showing him where the leak was. So he tells me that the part is $150 and his labor is $189. That's a lot of labor for four screws. SO we look online and see the part is much cheaper, but figure ok we don't want to figure out how to replace it so we should just pay the guy to do it. We negotiate a little and he is EXTREMELY pissed at this point. Calls his office and they approve of a lower fee. Thanks. But they don't have the part. He has to go get it at the office. But then calls later to say they don't have it either and will need to order it....online lol. So next day they get the part, I sit home all day waiting for them to call or update us. We get a call saying he will be here in an hour. Two hours later arrives and puts in the new part. Then tells me he is not going to push back in my fridge in case it isn't fixed or still leaks. Hahaha. So maybe we just should have tried it ourselves? I get it - every fridge is different and every set up is different. But service and pricing should always be consistent. Me holding my 3 month old baby trying to push back in my fridge is something I can't accept -- what kind of man makes a woman holding a baby do that? read more

Gary was excellent. He was very honest and fixed my bosch dishwasher and gave me tips on how to keep it clean and what detergent to use going forward. Clearly he knew what he was talking about. He took the time to check my washer and dryer and I had no idea where the mold grows inside the tire track. He showed me how to clean it and what type/amount of detergent is needed for front loaders. He gave great tips that I would not have gotten through any other service provider. Will be using them again for sure. My 15 year old kenmore fridge was leaking water all a sudden and I had a party scheduled later that evening. A quick call sent home a tech, who arrived on time ($45 service call). He quickly diagnosed the problem as the thermostat. Once the go ahead was given by my parents (who were visiting), it was quickly fixed for $340 or so. The thermostat is on the back of the fridge and not easy to get to. Its a pricey service, but it got quickly taken care of. You pay for the knowledge and know how to get it done. Sure I could have saved a few bucks and tried diagnosing it to fix it myself, but its just easier to call Universal to fix it. They also fixed the fridge gasket with vaseline and a hair dryer (no more air leaks, may have been the reason for the thermostat to fail). He also removed the virgin ice maker and gave me more room on the inside. The fridge is cooling much better. A few changes on the interior settings recommended by the tech took care of the uneven cooling (somehow the interior airflow window was kinda closed). Regardless, great job! I will ask them to come fix a few more things when they break. read more

He gave me 10% off when I told him I found them off Yelp as the site says. He was done within a hour, put some stickers on the washer $ dryer with their number in case i needed them and told me I had a 3 month warranty if there were any other problems. The washer machine started to leak water , we called Universal and after few hours a very nice and humble technician showed up, he found the leak right a way and charged us $167 for the repair- new pipeline and it will be include labor, material and the service call BUT if you think about it it's include a lot more: his knowledge , his time, advertising on Yelp, his gas, his license , his insurance, and a lot more.... Like taxes and all the over head that a business has. I know a pipe line maybe cost them $10 but people need to understand that there is a lot more expenses, I agree that you guys need to make money, you deserve that!!! Very Reasonable Price! Mike was such a great help to us one Saturday morning! Our refrigerator had stopped working and we had a wet floor because of the defrosting freezer. I sent an email on Sunday morning even though I realized they were closed. I was shocked to relieve a call from Mike minutes later. He was extremely friendly and said it would be no problem to come out first thing Monday. This is the first time i've ever had to call a a repairman (it's good to grow up with handy men around), and i've got to say, i'm rather impressed! Our fridge broke a few days ago and I called this morning to have someone take a look. They came out within an hour and fixed everything in less than 2 hours! He explained everything he was doing (had to consult with the pops a few times to make sure I understood everything) and was very pleased with the work he did. Prior to this I called 3 other service places that could not come today. (I really wanted to save all my food!) The gentleman on the phone kindly asked to describe what was happening with it and after I told him he gave me an honest guesstimate as to what it was and what it would cost to fix. (Very close to the amount of what we paid for the fridge) He said he could still come to the house today to check it out. I decided it was best just to get a new fridge. I'm giving 5 stars because I truly appreciate his honesty and the fact he gave me all that info over the phone instead of coming over to my house to take the service call money and telling me then. I called up the number, no answer so left a message - also sent an email through the contact form. Got a reply from Mike within 40 minutes and made an appointment for the next morning. Gary arrives on time, smart and well presented and gets to work. 5 minutes later the problem is diagnosed as a blocked drain - awesome - best $35 I've ever spent. Not only that he recommends a local plumber who's used several times and who has just arrived and cleaned the blockage for $65. I have had problems with my cooktop for months. My home warranty company sent three service techs from three different companies. Nobody was able to fix the problem. They replaced the module and igniters, but the gas lighting still took forever to ignite. I found Universal on Yelp. I called and spoke with Mike at 10:30 on a Saturday morning and explained the problem. He said if he could find the part he could fix it the same day. Sure enough he found the part and arrived by noon. An hour later the problem was fixed as he replaced the gas pressure regulator. Whoever answered the phone was really rude. His tone was not friendly and I couldn't hear what his name was. Anyways I asked him a question about my fridge (I was asking him if he can give me a estimate and etc)and he was asking me information about my fridge. I told him I wasn't sure because I wasn't at home and that I was at work. And this is how he responded to me. "How am I going to fix the fridge if I don't know what brand it is? That's like bringing a car to a dealer and having them fix the car but you don't know what brand it is." First of all, if you said it differently, I wouldn't be giving you a one star. You weren't friendly either and you didn't even try to help me out by asking some more questions. All you did was being very rude. He did say a couple more things but i couldn't clearly remember because I was trying not to be rude, but whoever the guy was, he just gave me a really horrible customer service. And I didn't even get to get my fridge checked out from them. I know they sound good because of all the 5 star reviews, that's why I gave them a call.
