Very negative experience with Universe which caused us to miss a vacation, move multiple scheduled appointments, etc. because they could not complete the work in a timely matter despite consistently communicating it would be done. We had to bring our car back multiple times due to it not being fixed completely the first time, after 3 times it is still not fixed. I do not recommend Universe and will be encouraging Gieco to remove them from the list of shops with whom they do business. read more

Just want to give a shout out to Universe Towing and their wonderful driver Rob. My daughter was driving alone on the FDR 11:00 at night when she got a flat tire. She was in a panic and tried contacting AAA. They don't cover the FDR, so referred us to Universe Towing. I contacted them and they dispatched Rob, their driver right away. He called me back to get a more specific location as to where my daughter was stuck. He was there in no time and saw that my daughter was upset and crying. He calmed her down and was so kind to her as he hitched up her car. He made a dangerous and scary situation much less frightening. Thank you so much for your help and compassion! Would give 0 stars if possible. They are the only towing service who can tow from the Hutch. I was on a very dangerous area of the Hutch with a child at night. The woman on the phone said 40 minutes. We waited two hours. Every person we came in contact with from this company is incompetent. Read the reviews. Use any other towing company if possible. Caught a major blowout in my Smart on I-95 in the Bx today -- we're talking fist-size hole in the tire -- and the Universe provided, as they say :). I am chastened to say I didn't get the man's name, but my driver helped me hook up the car, was super-friendly, and stopped at literally every tire shop on Boston Ave (pro tip: there are dozens) to see if they had the specialty tire I was going to need. It was kind of a scary situation and he was a definite calming influence, plus the tow rate was reasonable. Definitely grateful for Universe Towing and my anonymous driver ("Mr. Universe"? heh) this Thanksgiving week. UT: give this guy a raise. Be carful and AVOID this company no matter what! They estimated my towing $350 and ended up charging me $800.23. If you put your car in their yard which located at 254 3rd street, Brooklyn, NY. Be ready to be taken advantage of. They will milk every penny you have and will not release your car until you pay them. Also I have noticed that they have three different names. Online you will see them as "universe towing", the receipt says metropolitan towing, the sign on the truck is actually "Mike heavy duty towing" and the girl that picked up the phone at their shady office on flushing Ave answering the phone as " authorized towing". This company is the only Authorized Tow service for the Hutchinson River Parkway in Bronx, NY. As such, there are strict rules and regulations that they must follow. THEY DON'T! Before you are towed, they must give you a Customer Bill of Rights. Insist on it. They must tow you to your requested destination within the borough of occurrence, but their drivers often refuse. In my experience, their drivers are lazy and dangerous. Mine didn't secure my vehicle to the flatbed. I saw another tow a vehicle with passengers inside. I attempted to contact the owner, Mr. Anthony Aquilino, several times to pleasantly inform him about his drivers. Although I left messages on multiple occasions, he couldn't be bothered to return my call. Broke down on Queensborough Bridge, found out that Universe Towing is the only company that can tow you off the bridge, they have a city contract. I asked to be towed to my home in Queens and the driver Chris told me "they don't do that, they only tow you off the bridge." I called another company to tow me from York and E64 were he left me and when the driver picked me up he told me they Universe Towing was obligated to tow me anywhere in the five boroughs. I then read the back of the receipt that I was given as the Universe Towing driver left. Saw that he was correct, in between rush hours, which it was. On Friday, April 22, 2016, around 2pm, my motorcycle died on I95, Cross Bronx Expressway. I called my insurance company, which called Universe to come get me, and gave me their number. After about 15 minutes, I realized I might have made a mistake on the location. I had asked three different passing drivers who had come to a stop in the heavy traffic, who all gave me the same inaccurate info. Apparently, many locals confuse this spur of I95 with I295, since the route number changes without any turns. The person at Universe who answered the phone was terse, rude, kept interrupting me, wouldn't listen, and hung up on me. I tried to talk to the guy to figure it out, but he would not listen and kept interrupting me. He said he knew exactly where I was, and that "We have you on camera" which turned out to be a blatant lie, then hung up on me. When no truck came after an hour, I called again. This time I had asked more drivers, and had gotten some signal on my phone so I could use the nav system, and had precise info. Got the same guy. He got all excited and yelled at me, then said, I will take care of it and call you back. He never called back. I waited a half hour and called again. He said he had called a different tow service that's in the right area, and got off the phone as fast as possible without telling me the name of the service or their number. Another long wait, and no tow truck, so I called Universe again. Same guy answered, now really irritated, but gives me the number of the other tow service and hangs up on me (again). So I call the other number, which turned out to be Autorama, also in the Bronx. A very pleasant and helpful gentleman named Angel told me yes, he got the call from Universe, but the guy who called was so unclear and hung up so fast, that he (Angel) couldn't get the exact location. So finally, working with Angel, they came and got me. All told, I was sitting on the shoulder of I95 Cross Bronx Expressway for almost 5 hours. While I did make a mistake at the beginning, I tried to rectify it early on, but the extremely rude, impatient dispatcher at Universe simply would not take the time to listen, insisted he already knew where I was, and told me he "had me on camera" just so he could get rid of me. When people call a tow service, they are often in trouble, nervous, and need help. This idiot is in the wrong job. However much he is getting paid, it's too much. read more

I ordered a $38 extended ball mount. Received the wrong item: a $20 hitch adapter. Attempts to contact TowUniverse was unsuccessful. Opened a Paypay Resolution. One week later, still no response from the seller through Paypal Resolution. No return authorization. They tried too tell me my car was totaled after they realIzed my insurance wasn't gonna pay for it. The cars engine only had 20k on it , untouched. They inflated the repair costs hoping I couldn't get the car off their lot and keep the car n sell. Wrong. Very rude and unprofessional driver! We were involved in an accident on Bruckner Expwy and, because it is restricted highway for towing, only state approved company can tow your car, which sadly happened to be Universe Towing. While we were waiting for the towing truck, the police officers kindly helped us push our car to the nearest exit to avoid creating traffic and to reach safer spot for waiting. When the towing truck arrived, the driver asked me if I want to use my insurance to fix my car in his body shop. I said that I prefer to tow the car to the destination we specified in our request, because the accident wasn't our fault and we will go thought the other driver's insurance to fix it. The driver kept insisting to take the car to his shop saying that, regardless of whose fault it is I would still need to pay. When I refused his offer, he said "well, then go find yourself another towing truck, I was told the car I need to tow is on the highway and you are not" and left! Pure scam! Beware! read more

Yesterday I my car was stuck in ice. A competitor was called at 2:45pm and we were quoted a 90 minute wait. After calling the competitor several times and being assured that a truck was on their way, I called Universe at 6pm. They arrived 30 minutes later, only 3 minutes after the competitor had finally shown up. Despite not using their services, I still would recommend Universe for their good communication, quick response and being true to their word. And yes, I wrote a review for the other company but it was not as generous as this one. read more

Terrible service. The driver attached the chain to the arm of the right wheel of my car and broke it causing my car to shake uncontrollably. I called them and they said it was impossible they could have broken it. When I took it to the mechanics they said it was the tow and it cost me $175 to repair. Do not trust this company! read more

I got into a pretty big accident on I95 while passing through the Bronx. My car was totaled, but the team at Universe handled my car (including all of my possessions inside) with care.
