Been a customer for a few years, last few times I have been I have asked for simple request and the work doesn't get completed as requested. These are minor problems but starting to get annoying. Example: ask for 5w30 full synthetic and get 5w30 synthetic Example: ask tires to be rotated, rear tires to the front and front crossed going back(standard for rwd/4wd), this usually doesn't happen. Example: get an alignment and when the truck gets dropped off I ask for a print out after the alignment and when I pick up I don't get the print out. read more

Long story short: they tried to steal $3500... I went in because my car was jacked and they quoted me for $5200 in repairs or I could scrap my car for $500. I decided to go somewhere else to see about a different quote and ended up at Coconino motors. They quoted me at $1700. Needless to say, this business tried to rip me off... maybe because I'm a girl or maybe because I'm a college student, but it is completely ridiculous and I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

My radiator started leaking and these guys put in a new one. Then another leak developed in the coolant system. While the repair bill was painful these guys made it as pleasant as possible. They went out of their way to accommodate me and even left me a sucker in my cupholder because they moved my seats. It is an older vehicle and they have it up and running again. Posting a second time because for some reason it was deleted. (Probably because the owners at University knew it was 100% true) If it was possible to give a -5 star rating, I would happily click that button. Shops like University Auto Repair are the reason the Auto Repair industry has a reputation for fraud and dissatisfaction. My daughter's car recently broke an AC/alternator belt. We made the mistake of taking it to another shop nearby her apartment. I told her, "you are a 19 year old co-ed, the problem is relatively simple, but don't be surprised if they try to up-sell you on service and diagnostics you don't need" She told them what the problem was and that she needed those components addressed and when she didn't want the 15 point bumper to bumper once over, they claimed that they couldn't "guarantee their work" I suppose in retrospect, this should have been the point where I walked away and found a different shop, but I knew how easy the fix was, I just couldn't run up there from Phoenix to do it myself. They "fixed" it, but a few weeks later, the belt blew again and when I called the shop to find out if they had anything to say, their response was to remind me we declined the 15 point bumper to bumper inspection so they would not stand behind their work. I told them that they either put the belt on a faulty idler or installed it incorrectly and were now acting as if this was an acceptable way to do business. I reminded them that there is a difference between fixing a problem and "ignore the cause of the problem" and that if they had found the source of the broken belt to be bad bearings or a bad idler, I would have 100% green lit the cost of repair. They still accepted 0 responsibility. I am sure the manager or owner that sees this review is going to point out an invoice that THEY wrote where they CLAIM I said I did not want any diagnosis to why your belt "Came Off". That is clever wording for what was actually said which was "I don't want your bumper to bumper diagnostic. I have a broken belt, I need that fixed. That doesn't mean to put a new belt on a potentially faulty idler or tensioner, and to do so would would demonstrate otherworldly incompetence or petty maliciousness on a whole new level. Eventually, I would have the car examined at Apex Auto (who specialize in European cars) and they did not find any issues with the idlers or tensioners that would have caused pre-mature wear on the belt. Meaning the first break was simply due to the age of the belt, but the second one was due to incorrect installation. So if you are keeping track, not only do the leadership at University Auto lack a conscience, but their mechanics apparently lack an even basic understanding of their trade. If you are in need of honest ethical and honest service. Go to Tag Automotive who agreed that University and their affiliated shops (Heath and Randy's) are unethical and incompetent, and Apex Auto (who seconded those assessments as well. read more

This will be the last comment on this situation. My father O'Ryan already posted a review but seen as the response was full of half truths I, as the daughter who brought the car in, want to relay the actual truth. Yes; the alternator belt was put on incorrectly. I've had the new one from APEX for weeks now (as I've waited to see if it would break as well) and it has run perfectly fine since being replaced. Meaning that, yes, it was put on wrong to begin with. No, I was never EVER told about the warranty when I brought my car in. You had explicit instructions to only work on the alternator and replace the belt. I said 'i know the problem is the alternator and belt and I know it was old that's probably why it came off. So I just need the belt replaced.' To which he asked 'Just replace the belt?' To which I responded 'just worry about the alternator.' Knowing that I, as a 19 year old female am far more likely to be taken advantage of when I depend on my car and don't know much about repairing it. When I called after it broke the conversation was less than 5 minutes in which, to summarize, I was told it didn't matter if I knew about the warranty or not, they would not even look at it again for free. Not ONCE, has your team reached out to me. I reached out to YOU through email to which I got a condescending email back, which basically just restated what I was told on the phone. Only then did we choose to post the review after any acknowledgment that your team was possibly the ones in the wrong was blatantly ignored. There was never any sort of accommodation as you claim there was, not that we ever asked for anything except for it to be looked at again. University Auto Shop provide great customer service with features like their courtesy shuttle and mini fridge that is always stocked. However, in the two times I had been there, they had tried to take advantage of me, and continue to take advantage of college students and their parents' money through various tactics. One of the shop workers Chris, when explaining a diagnostic report or an issue with your car, will speak incredibly fast and using advanced auto jargon in order to confuse customers and scare them into paying for services that are either not best practices and/or are way above market price. Their shop minimum seems to be $155 regardless of the service performed, even if it's less than 1 hour of labor. Was quoted way over market price for just 2 brake pads and apparently new rotors, when one other call to a shop down the street generated a quote at almost half of hte price. When they are busy and know their services are in high demand, their customer service goes out the window and most staff become pretty rude and curt. Jonathan, another shop worker, was nice and courteous, but also gives the impression of scaring customers with the fear of 'risk' and 'what-if' in order for the customer to pay large amounts of money for services right then and there. Just don't feel good about taking my car there anymore even if it's a convenient location and the customer service is good if you overpay for their services. read more

Enough legitimate work to not be reported to the BBB, but just barely. Brought my car in for AC repair, a slow tire leak and faulty tire pressure sensors. They ended up changing my transmission fluid, cleaning my already clean battery terminals, recharging my AC, and replacing my rear windshield wiper. Filter was not changed for the transmission. Transmission fluid was not flushed. They could not do anything with the tire, or the sensors. All they did with the AC was put refrigerant in it. Total cost was more than $700. What a waste. Only figured out how much of a scam this was after speaking to other mechanics. Would recommend Anderson General tire though, they do fantastic work. Will definitely never be coming here again. read more

We had a great experience at this shop. We needed new brakes but summer about an hour and half away from Flagstaff. We were in town for medical appointments. They looked at the brakes and they needed replaced. They were able to work us in so we didn't have to come back. We waited at the shop, they were so professional and helped us out alot! read more

I attempted to replace water pump myself but did not put on timing belt on right. I pushed my car to this place. They looked into it and second day they said that they would not guarantee the car would work without changing out certain parts including timing belt. I decided to pay $1200 for timing belt service and replace water pump and whatever it else it was. Some seals as well. They said that would take care of any oil leak. Today, 6 months later Toyota dealership saying I have major oil leak under my car. I hope they take a look at it and fix whatever leak been caused. read more

Last week our Chrysler Town and Country van developed a hole in a vital hose while on a trip to The Grand Canyon. AAA roadside assistance sent a tow truck and had our vehicle towed to AAA approved University Auto repair in Flagstaff for repair. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendliness and helpfulness of the entire staff at University Auto Repair. This is an extremely busy shop. We broke down on the side of the road about 25 miles south of Flagstaff. We called the Ford shop and they couldn't even look at our truck; but Chris at Universal Auto told us to bring it in. They worked with us through the afternoon, gave us a ride to get a rental car and even stored our bikes in the shop. Chris called early the next day to give us the bad news. Again, the entire shop helped us with getting the truck moved to the Ford dealer and worked with us for several hours getting the logistics ironed out. They are a small shop with a big shop feel. Car broke down near meteor crater had to get towed part of AAA package preferred mechanic also while I was waiting for the tow truck the battery completely died from the heat. So we got to go there I'm thinking all right I'm gonna have to definitely buy a new battery in the transmission line clips blew out they fix the line and it didn't cost that much because it was nothing else wrong but some shops would've you know added on more stuff saying there was problems but they didn't they were quick and professional and ask for the battery they just threw it on the AAA charger and said it was good. I came in with an issue with my trusty 11-year-old car, and the folks here were friendly and professional. While the only repair options for the problem were too cost prohibitive for me to pay for, they were honest and sympathetic about the situation. They even waived the $136 I would have had to pay for the diagnostics and returned my car neat and with a little treat in the cup holder. While I wasn't able to get my car repaired with them this time, I definitely plan on coming back in the future (though it may be with a new car)! read more

I was traveling from out of state and was having a stalling issue, I looked up AAA approved mechanics. With the AAA discount I paid them $112.28 to diagnose a stalling issue. The first thing they said was my battery is bad even though it still started the vehicle with no problem they also said the alternator is no good and I need to replace it as well. After replacing the alternator and battery $500. The vehicle was still stalling out with no difference. I took the old alternator they said was bad to get tested at 3 different places every test came back good. Total waste of money on day one. When I came back the second day they gave me bad vibes / attitude. They looked at it for a little while and said my battery terminals where loose and wrote on my invoice they where so loose they would come off. NOT true. They also said my throttle body was dirty and they claimed they cleaned it. WRONG ANSWER. I took the throttle body off the intake manifold and really cleaned it AFTER my vehicle started to have stalling problems. I was watching the guy he was just spraying Seafoam to "clean" my throttle body and he was talking shit about my mechanical skills and my vehicle while doing so. After treating me like I was a moron the guy at the counter said "I'm good to go". I did not make it more then a few miles before it stalled out in traffic again. I had to go back a third time. They gave my really bad vibes and attitude. The manager told me I can not set in my chair next to the bay my vehicle was in because "It was making there mechanic nervous". He said the third mechanic looking at it "Will Not look at it with ME watching" NOT COOL!!! With COVID-19 going on expecting people to wait in the waiting room is negligent and irresponsible. None of the employees were wearing masks, they did not have steering wheel covers, seat covers nor floor matts. That third guy said it could be the crankshaft position sensor.. But with no check engine light on or codes they did not know if that would fix it. They wanted another $250 to fix something they do not know will work. He said they would put in a new PCM if the crankshaft position sensor did not fix it. There prosses of elimination is by $pending money putting on new parts$$$ I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!! So I can take my vehicle somewhere more professional that can diagnose a stalling issue. read more

Then they proceeded to tell him a bunch of things that needed fixed including new struts which we had just replaced a few months before by our longtime mechanic in our hometown. I had blown out shocks in my Mercedes and a squeaky belt which I had them replaced the shocks and diagnose the belt and was quoted $750 and I had thought that was for both things but apparently it was only for the shocks and got a call later that day that it would be an extra $250 to fix the squeaky belt then another call came in that I need to replace the wheel bearings for $350 which I agreed on. At the end of the day I drove my car out with new shocks, squeaky belt and new wheel bearings and a $1250 bill but a little discount was applied which was appreciated. 1 week later traction lights and ABS light pop up which I took it back and they said it had nothing to do with them and it'd be $120 to diagnose those lights. So I walked away Another week passed and popping and clanking noises started to become very apparent and it was the strut mount bearings and the mount itself that went bad (which should've been replaced with the struts) which I was not made aware of in the first place and now they wanted another $550 to have the same $1250 job done. Granted they didn't diagnose the problem in the first place, it should've still been advised or made known of on the first day as it is a must for replacing with a blown shock. Just a terrible experience and might I add way overpriced. read more

I want to warn other people about my experience with University Auto. I took my car to University Auto on 11/10/21 because I believed my car's heater core needed to be replaced. Josh said he would do a diagnosis within the next few days and call me with a quote for the work that needed to be done. After doing some research online about how much other people with similar cars spent on a heater core replacement, I figured Josh would come up with an estimate of around $700-800, including labor, parts, and the fluid flush. He called me the next day and said that I was correct and that the heater core needed to be replaced. He also said that my radiator was "busting at the seams" and also needed to be replaced. My jaw dropped when he said that replacing both the heater core and the radiator would be $2,900. I asked how much it would be to just replace the heater core and he quoted me $1,250. Shocked, I said I would call him back and let him know if I wanted him to work on my car. After doing more research online, I found that most people paid somewhere between $600 - $700 for a radiator replacement for my type of car. So according to my math, the very highest I should have been quoted was $1,500 for both the radiator and the heater core to be replaced. Panicking that I may have to drop nearly 3 grand and concerned that University Auto was asking for too much money, I decided to call another mechanic in town for a quote. I called TAG Automotive and talked with Gene. I told him that University Auto had quoted me $2,900 for a new radiator and heater core and he was flabbergasted. He said he couldn't believe that price, and that he had just gotten off the phone with someone who had gotten an outrageously high quote from Heath's Auto Service (another shop in town that is owned by the same people who own University Auto). He said that I could bring my car over to him immediately and he would look at it the next morning. I took my car over to TAG Automotive and the next morning Gene called and said that I did in fact need a new radiator and heater core. He quoted me for $1,397 after tax, which I thought was a fair price. I told him to do the work, and TAG Automotive had it done within 4 business days. I saved $1,500 by taking my car to an honest mechanic. I usually don't write reviews, especially negative ones, but I feel that University Auto took advantage of me. I thought that all of the 5-star reviews that University Auto has when you Google their name meant that I could trust them to give me a fair price, but I was wrong. As a young woman, my biggest fear when my car needs maintenance is going to a dishonest mechanic and paying an unfair price. If you want a fair and honest mechanic, take your car to TAG Automotive, not to University Auto. read more

I don't have anything good to say about this company. I have had a 2500 duramax In for cold wether starting problems. they had my work truck for weeks. I was so excited to get it back. nothing changed at all. so we took it back again. And again they had it for weeks. Got it back and could not believe it still did the same thing. spent 4000 dollars on nothing at all. I was sharing trucks working in uncomfortable conditions because they were supposed to fix it. Now it's about two years down the road and the company I work for now uses them for fleet repair. They offer shuttle rides so that if you're dropping off your car for the afternoon they give you a ride & will even pick you back up to get your car. I was amazed at how easy they make it for customers. I would give them minus stars if that was available. I broke down outside of Flagstaff and was told to take my Ram Diesel Truck there from AAA. What a disaster!!!! First of all the manager Damon is a compulsive liar and completely fabricated lies to me as well as the insurance company that was backing the cost of repairs. Then he and his operation lied about working on the truck as it took 15-20 days to even get an update as he never returns calls or emails until threatened then I find out that a UNCERTIFIEED TECHNICIAN was working on my truck with no CUMMINS certifications (like stated in their voice messages as your on hold for ever!!!). Then when the motor was rebuilt (bottom end only) he was going to put a NEW CRANK in without doing BEARINGS!!! No Experience what-so-ever!!! Then when it was all put back together they then took 2 weeks to figure out that it needed to go to the dealer as their UNCERTIFIED TECH could not figure out why it would not start.. So, goes to the dealer and within 3 hours they figured out the when they took the engine out they broke a plug connector that pretty much runs the entire truck!!! then Damon IS NOW TRYING TO TELL ME THAT IT WAS ALREADY BROKEN AND THIS PART HAS NEVER BEEN OUT OF THIS TRUCK!!! BEWARE OF THIS GARAGE AS THEY ARE LIARS AND INEXPIRENCED AND WILL LEAVE YOU HANGING!!! ALMOST TWO MONTHS AND STILL HAVE NOT GOT MY TRUCK BACK!!! WILL BE SUING THIS COMPANY AS WELL AS DAMON THE MANAGER PERSONALLY!!! WILL BE FILLING A COMPLAINT WITH THE STATE OF AZ, AS WELL AS THE BBB.
