My darling boyfriend ordered roses from University Flower Shop for my birthday - 1/2 dozen red roses in a glass vase with a teddy bear and a balloon. The flowers were delivered in time (to my knowledge at least), and were nicely arranged. My office smells like roses now which I love! The only thing I would suggest/recommend is the string that held the balloon and bear to the vase was simply cut at the end - a quick curl using a pair of scissors would've kicked it up a notch. BUT that's just a silly small detail my hypercritical Virgo eye caught lol - otherwise, I was very happy with my birthday flowers!!!! read more

I was referred by Herndon florist who I've been going to for years recommended this shop for Valentines day. The selection for flowers/gifts were okay, not spectacular. The day of delivery: I wanted to keep this a surprise but what I was given was a disappointed significant other. They gave her a call to see where it could be delivered but didn't respond back when given a call. They didnt bother to give me( person who ordered it) a call before this all happening. I'm not sure what the negative reviews are from, they seem to be outdated or possibly issues with the company the orders were placed with. University Flower Shop has delivered numerous bouquets through Teleflora (and my husband) and I honestly have loved every single delivery. I'm shocked at the negative reviews! My bf ordered last minute Valentine's Day flowers for me the night prior, and they arrived at my office today at lunch time and are beautiful!! He was a bit worried that they wouldn't arrive timely, or at all with it being a holiday and a last minute order, but that wasn't a problem at all. Last october my boyfriend ordered a corsage for homecoming and it was fantastic- held up the whole night colors were beautiful!! Fast forward to April 2023 and he ordered another one- supposed to be purple flowers for both the corsage and the boutonnière. he went to go pick them up the morning of our dance and was told they were out of purple flowers, so they substituted white flowers with a purple ribbon, completely fine, they still looked beautiful! The only problem i ran into was for whatever reason this set started to fall off the wrist band after i put it on, as well as every single flower falling off immediately. I get it, things happen!! I picked up a $60 order of flowers. The small pink roses were brown and the arrangement was very small. Many of the other orders there looked normal. I asked why it was such a small arrangement and that I was displeased with the browning roses. I was told, "These are fresh because I just got them today." My family friend's relative unexpectedly passed away and I needed a sympathy bouquet ASAP. I called to place an order expecting to pick it up the next day due to short notice. However, I explained my situation and shared my urgency; they were so understanding and told me they will fit in my order that day and I can pick it up by the end of the day! When I got there, I saw a beautiful bouquet in a basket and I didn't think it was mine because it definitely looked a lot more expensive than what I paid for but the florist handed me the bouquet and told me that it was mine! I couldn't believe it! I couldn't have been more happier. The flowers looked so fresh and beautifully arranged. I wish I took a picture of my flowers to show how gorgeous they were but I was in such a rush to deliver them and didn't get a chance to. :( The service was incredible as well. What was delivered was wilted and on the small-side of an arrangement. I could take the small arrangement since it's from Telefloral but the owner (I called the flower shop directly) would not take responsibility for the poor product quality delivered. She wanted me to ask the recipient (it's her birthday) to take the brown pedals off the roses that were delivered an hour ago? If this business losses one order my time here is worth it. I was disappointed with the delivery on 8-8-2020. If the delivery person rang the bell or knocked on the door, I did not hear. I was not alerted by phone that flowers had been left at the door. Additionally, the flowers did not appear fresh; they started to wilt within two days. I did not receive a package with material to fresh the arrangement. If I could give them a zero, I would. They promised to deliver flowers by 2 pm. When they hadn't arrived, I called, and they had lost the order, but promised they would be there by 2:30. By the time they delivered them, the recipient was no longer in the office. I had told them she was leaving at 3 pm. Since I had to call them several times, and they had promised to get them by 2 pm, and then 2:30, I wanted a credit for the flowers. They said they agreed since it was their fault. But, they went back to the recipients office and took the flowers back and didn't tell me they were doing that! What an absolute embarrassment this was. Never again. read more

**Tip** flower websites (FTD, 1800flowers, telefora, etc) are actually the MIDDLE man. meaning they take commission off of your money and local shops themselves have to make up for that by giving you less than what you paid for. the best way to order and establish connections with local flower shops is to call them directly. that way your recipient gets every petal that you paid for, and hey flowers are expensive! if you live in the fairfax square apartments, then you know about sunny's deli, but then you also stumble upon university flower shop. passing by the shop every now and then, I rolled in when i wanted to surprise the fam with a thanksgiving centerpiece. I struck up a lovely conversation with Grace and i love making personal connections with businesses. I always admire hard working small business owners and she reminds me of my own mother. Im a broke college student just trying to impress my family over the holidays, and she made one WOW of a centerpiece, definitely more than what I paid for. My family and I were stunned at the beautiful arrangement at our thanksgiving table i had to surprise everyone again with a Christmas arrangement. flowers are beautiful individually, but it really does take craft and skill to arrange them beautifully. good luck to any suitor who brings me a plastic wrapped bunch of flowers that are clearly from the grocery store. theres nothing wrong with having a fine taste in things beautiful. read more

I went in to purchase a dozen roses with no vase as I live in walking distance of the shop. I had to tell them three times no vase and on top of that they made the bouquet in a vase and I had to tell them once again to remove it. After that they tried to charge me 70 dollars for the dozen roses in a vase. After once again reminding them I didn't want a vase, they said they could knock it down to 58$. That is still a ludicrous price to pay for a dozen roses when I can get 8 roses down the block for 5 dollars! I wish I liked this place as I live so close, but the price and service were deplorable. Would stay away from this flower shop. My husband ordered me flowers there for Valentine's day (through FTD, and they assigned the order to this shop), to be delivered the day before which was a Friday. The flowers arrived looking bruised, beaten and with some already sagging. I sent my husband a photo taken with my phone and, much to his surprise, they weren't anywhere close to the flowers he had actually ordered for me. They were much lower in quality even if they had been fresh, the vase was very cheap-looking, and the whole arrangement was a failure. When I called the shop, they would not re-deliver to my home because it was "out of their delivery area" by just a few minutes; and they wouldn't re-deliver to my office until the following Tuesday. Horrible service. My husband called FTD and they were so apologetic and immediately issued a refund. The only thing I can think of is how many other people receive poor quality flowers from this shop, especially arrangements well beneath the quality ordered and paid for by the customer. Take your business elsewhere...and probably a good idea to check any flowers you send to make sure the shop delivers as ordered and promised. read more

I called the shop and told them what happened and the owner immediately said that was not acceptable and that they had just received a new shipment of flowers and she would deliver a new dozen immediately. The first time they were delivered, the roses were completely opened and were drooping by the next day. I called 1-800-Flowers immediately upon their delivery and placed a complaint. The florist called me the next day and said she could not redeliver until Saturday (this was Wednesday). She told me they would be delivered at noon. After waiting around for 3.5 hours on Saturday, they were finally delivered at 3:30 pm. Again, the roses were completely opened! I have placed another complaint with 1-800-Flowers but I would not encourage anyone to order from this shop. Again, extremely disappointing and such poor customer service. read more
