Outstanding Food, incredible service, and great ambience! That's the experience you get at University Grill. I have been eating at the establishment since it opened 29 years ago in 1997. My guest and I yesterday July 3 had an incredible meal of haddock with french fries and coleslaw for me, and my guest had the delicious breaded coconut shrimp. We each had a soup of New England clam chowder for me and my guest had the bisque soup. Drinks were unsweetened iced tea. The bread that is brought to the table is absolutely the finest made in a restaurant bread I have ever eaten! Service was absolutely outstanding, over the top incredible! The other people within the restaurant were all having a great time, enjoying the great ambience and socialization. Honored to have been a part of eating here for 29 years. However, we have gone there twice recently and the quality of the entrees has been equivalent to lousy diner food. They clearly don't have a trained chef there any longer. The meatloaf was unedible and some of their chicken dishes are untrimmed with lots of leftover fat and grizzle fried in, poor quality chicken and cutlet entrees are soggy not crispy. French fries look like they were left overnight in cold oil and then reheated. The result of untrained kitchen staff. The eggplant Parmesan head barely any flavor. Last night before going to the Player's Circle Theater, my friends and I stopped here for dinner. This was my first time and I was impressed. We had a reservation for 530 and we showed up just on time. Two of my friends were already at the table so we joined them. The server, Scott was so kind, he offered us the early bird special!!! I was blown away by the offer and very appreciative. I got fish and chips and wow was it great! The batter was perfect as well as the portion size. We went recently on a Wednesday when it's happy hour all day. We were fortunate enough to get a table in the bar area, which is where their happy hour pricing specials are applicable. Tried University Grill for the first time based on positive reviews from NextDoor. We went on a Friday right around 5:00. The place was already very busy. But even with no reservations, they were able to accommodate the two of us right away. The atmosphere is old school and reminded us of some cool restaurants that used to be located in downtown Denver (The Broker and Marlowes). It is quite loud, but it didn't take away from our experience. We both ordered fish and chips, which came with a salad. I did not care for the Caesar dressing, but my husband liked his garden salad with ranch dressing. The fish and fries were quite tasty and it is a good size portion. The real star for me was the bread and dipping sauce. As a result, I ate WAY too much bread! The service was friendly and we didn't wait long to order or get our food. Nice place, very clean, however it is a bit dated, 1980's dark wood and carpet aesthetic. 3 menu types, early bird til 5:30, $21 specials all night and the regular menu. This place is definitely a local hangout. Lots of regulars are in the bar area. We sat in the bar area and the servers honored the bar menu and also the dining menu. Such awesome choices. We met a friend who recommended the place and we were very pleased. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly & prompt. Being in this atmosphere ,felt like a martini kind of place so I got their Re/Max Appletini. The Appletini was strong! WOW! I'm a lightweight. I ordered water for sure and managed to sip it. I ordered Buffalo Chicken tenders. Wow! So delicious and I think I had 7 tenders. I also got their mashed potatoes. Soooo yummy. My friend ordered their meatballs and mashed potatoes. I have been by this place many times. It is on the way to where we pay homage to the Great Costco God. They open at 3 pm most weekdays. We arrived shortly thereafter. Checked out the menu they had hanging on outside the front door. Pretty quickly determined that if you couldn't find something there you could eat, well, you were just too darn picky We went inside to be seated. Got asked if we had reservations. Nope! I mean the place is empty except for the workers there. So I am like incredulous that I am being queried about my lack of reservations. So as greeter ponders what he is going to do, I look around. Despite it being a sunny day, it is rather dark inside. There is a lot of real wood, darkly stained throughout. The bar is intricate and inviting. As we were seated, noticed the wait staff were older and all prim and proper. And then it dawned on me! As we entered the door for our dining experience, we had been transported to an earlier time. This was an "Old Florida" restaurant. The world had built up around it yet it steadfastly remained. The only thing missing was a Kapok Tree or two. The food was excellent. They have an early bird menu too. Everything we ordered was good. The service was as you could imagine--impeccable. Bar drinks with called were very reasonable. Went there on Saturday night September 13 we had 6:00 reservation. We got there early at 5:30 we were told being we early we could sit outside on some covered patio or a high top in the bar. I told her the outside was pretty warm and we would wait for a table inside. The 2 girls in the front and the bartender told us it was that table outside or nothing even though there were open tables inside. The so called manager said they were for other people. We called in an order to go, and when we picked it up and left, I looked in the bag and noticed that they had given us the wrong salad dressing with the order. We drove back and requested the dressing that was supposed to come with the salad and within a few feet of me, the bartender told the hostess who took my order that the dressing order was wrong and yet she INSISTED that that was what we had ordered. Found a place I really like. The menu is pretty complete. A lot of items on the menu I really fancy. So I started out with a Cesar Salad (with fresh Anchovies) - "delicious" and some Crab Bisque soup - "awesome". For dinner, I had the Sunday Special - Prime Rib topped with a Gorgonzola sauce. Cooked med and it was perfect. My wife had the Boston Baked Haddock. I had some of that too. Excellent. I was surprised as I was sure she would have gone with her favorite - Coconut Fried Shrimp. My one daughter had the Bronzed Salmon. Had some of that too. It was very good, although I prefer Alaskan Salmon - not Atlantic Salmon. And finally, my other daughter had a Crispy Grouper sandwich. Yes, I had some of that too. Not bad. So I got to try 4 things off the menu. The only thing that wasn't great was the Key Lime Pie. Wasn't a big fan. Publix makes a better pie. The service was great. Attentive and available. Never had to look for Andrew. I'm looking forward to going back because I want to try the Parker House Scallops. Scallops are my favorite. Last night my wife and I went to the University Grill. It was a Monday night and the place was packed so we sat at the bar. Our server was friendly and experienced. Our issue was with the food. We started with the Crab Bisque. It was cold and resembled wall paper paste. I had a burger that was cooked perfectly, yet lacked any seasoning and the bun fell apart as though it was left over and was not fresh. After we paid the check I asked our sever if I could offer my concerns regarding the meal? She said please do. I recapped our concerns and was somewhat taken aback by her responses. She said that we were not the only ones that complained about the soup being cold. She said she noticed that another of her tables were being served cold soup, so she brought it to the attention of the cook staff and then personally "nuked" the soup. I could stay home and microwave my own soup, I do not expect my soup reheated at a place that is billing itself as fine dining. Yet, she did not do this to ours. She defended the food and was surprised that we were unhappy. But, never offered suggestions as to what they were supposedly good at. Needless to say, we will not be back. read more

My wife and I stopped in on a Tuesday night and they were quite busy! We got our name in and got a pager, but were able to snag a couple of seats at the bar pretty quickly, so we decided to dine there. My wife got a glass of wine from their pretty thorough wine list, and I got a very inexpensive, but good martini. We place our food orders and the food came out very quickly. I got the Crispy Grouper Sandwich, which was quite good - fresh fish and a light breading. My wife got the Beet Salad, which she said was a solid '5'; beets, cranberries, kale and spinach, walnuts, goat cheese, and oranges. The dressing was excellent - a nice tang. We got a loaf of bread to snack on as well, and my wife thought the dipping olive oil had one of the best flavors she'd had. Service was very good and very efficient at the bar. There is definitely a predominant older crowd, and from what I could tell at the bar, quite a few regulars, but that didn't detract at all from our experience, as others have mentioned in reviews. I'd definitely recommend it, and would say to get a reservation almost any night during the snowbird season, as they appear to have a pretty loyal following. read more

My twins are just shy of 8 months old. Booked a reservation around 8 o'clock, so I knew the boys would be sleeping. This was really Mom's first night out since the babies were born. It's probably has been over a year since I've been out. I feel like my waitress, totally understood the situation, as I was very clearly over dressed for the outing compared to the rest of the party. My cosmo was strong and she was willing to work with me, and asked the kitchen to let me make a substitution on one of the specials As requested we were seated in covered "out side" area. She really made this first time outing for a new mom of twins, special and meaningful. The food was great and she kindly sat us in a quiet area so the twins could sleep.
