So, we had lunch reservations on Sunday for 11:30am. I was looking forward to it since many people recommended it. It looked popular but they were seating everyone. Not sure what was happening with staffing. It took a while to get menus and even longer to get our order put in. The waiter did check in on us to apologize for the long wait but it took over an hour to get our food. We saw other people waiting forever too and next to us, they were frustrated waiting a long time just to get their bill to pay. Another party had a woman finally flag down a waiter telling them no one has even taken their order. Where was upper management? It's not necessarily the waiters fault. Are they over-seating for short staff? The kitchen isn't keeping up with the orders, want to comp something from the bar maybe? One hours for food to come out is really disappointing. The food was good but not amazing or unique. The drink was suppose to be a blood orange old fashioned but tasted horrible so, probably not going to return for any mixed drinks. Friday evening - night before Valentine's Day. Been here many times before and enjoyed. However, they have a new GM, chef and kitchen staff. Started off being seated at our table on no waitress for 10 minutes so we had to ask. Ordered the brussel sprouts but failed to notice they changed the recipe. They were bland and no where near as good as previously. Steak was ordered medium rare and came out looking like it spent 5 seconds cooking - almost completely rare. Sent it back and they made a new one. Manager brought it out and just about same rare cooked steak. She took it back and I simply told her I was not interested in another one. My wife finished her trout (which she enjoyed) and they comped us a dessert. Don't think we will be going back again. What happened to this place? The area is huge and well spaced out. The property and landscape stunning. We came for dinner to enjoy the buffet during a conference held at the facility. Everything was good, except for the server who was carving out the BBQ prime spare rib. The look on his face and the way he was disgustingly serving the prime rib was as if it was painfully being carved out of his own ribs. Jokes aside, he was not the right person to interact with the customer behind the counter. We lost our appetite for the prime spare ribs which was an added cost on the buffet menu. read more

Driving up to this huge estate is a delight on the eyes. The grounds are phenomenally maintained and all the buildings are perfectly preserved. This is so much more than just a restaurant. Allenberry is a massive estate with lodging, fly fishing, pickleball courts, salt water pool and The Barn Restaurant. You'll find casually dressed to suit and ties and evening gowns as the main attire. The staff are super friendly, funny and helpful with menu options. Tons of drinks to choose from with several specialty drinks available. The prickly pear mojito is delicious and refreshing. Menu options are plentiful with hamburgers from $12 to filet mignon upwards of $40. So depending on your spending, there is something for everybody. Plenty of seafood options too. I had the deviled eggs for an appetizer which were delicious! For my main dish, I had the lobster tortellini which was perfectly prepared and delicious with large lumps of lobster and fresh juicy cherry tomatoes perfectly prepared. For desert, I couldn't decide so I picked the crème brûlée which was creamy and exquisitely rich with a perfectly torched caramel crust. I also had the sticky bun with side of vanilla bean ice cream. The sticky bun was gooey delicious and almost like a cake rather than a bread. The ice cream was homemade with a rich and creamy texture. I highly recommend The Barn for anyone looking for an elegant, but not over the top stuffy restaurant with wonderfully prepared food and drinks. read more

Love hate relationship with this place since the change of ownership a few years ago. It's a beautiful setting for a great restaurant, but they need to do a complete shutdown for a couple weeks. Overhaul management and staff. And hire a chef for the prices they charge for bad diner food. Oh, wait, didn't they just do that? I recommend eating somewhere good and stopping by for a drink. 1-star for now, but fingers still crossed that they eventually get it right - or at least as good as it was last summer. read more

Reminiscent of something Id get at Applebees. As were the overly doughy and dry korean pierogies topped with a mound of shriveled scallions. Our entrees - the cornmeal crusted trout and orange sesame salmon - sounded amazing but were dry and flavorless, severely lacking seasoning. The "rice pilaf" was a mix of orzo and quinoa, which was super annoying because i hate quinoa and never would've ordered the dish had i known that was being served in lieu of pilaf. They can save the pile of shredded lettuce and lemon slice theyre using as a garnish. Very 90s country club. The ceo martini was coyingly sweet. The complimentary birthday dessert was generous and fine, likely from a freezer. The espresso martini (yes i drank a lot, ok?) Was also fine but the menu calls it chai and there was nothing chai about it. The setting here is very nice. Upscale with good views of the surrounding wooded areas. The food is OK. We started with crispy calamari & the hummus plate. They were OK. For entrees, I had the trout amandine & my husband had the ahi tuna. Mine was fine, Tom was quite happy with his. Our friend Jack had the cowboy pork chop, which looked great. We visited this restaurant on a Thursday evening when they have live music on the patio. The band that night was an oldies mix and added a really nice atmosphere. Serivce on the patio was a little slow, but the waiters were very friendly. I ordered the banh mi, and what I got was a smoked pulled pork sandwich, which was amazing, but definitely not a banh mi. If you're looking for pickled radish and carrots, this is not the sandwich, but if you want a really good pulled pork sandwich smoked to near perfection, then I'd go for it. As another reviewer noted there was no mention of a $60 pp prix fixe menu. We were kind of blind sided by that but decided to stay. As a note we have been to Antrim and several other fine dining prix fixe experiences in the last several months so we have pretty good expectations for this price point. I wasn't going to leave a review but I would want to know what to expect more myself in the future. Our appetizers were the tuna and smoked buratta. The tuna was fine. Not particularly refined and the wasabi drizzle was exceptionally mild, but excellent salt content. The "buratta" was a cold piece of hard mozzarella. At no point was it ever buratta. The flavor was ok but it wasn't what we ordered. Our main was delicious but again the execution was just a bit off. We both got the hanger steak, both were cooked to different temperatures very well. The steak had a chimichurri with it, but it was not placed on the steak but in the potatoes. This made it hard to actually enjoy it with the steak. Our desserts were fine, but again execution. The creme brûlée did not have a hard shell to crack, it was barely torched. The pavlova was good. Our drinks also were not great, and another stumble with the menu. Two of the signature Valentine's cocktails had milk bases- rumchata based and a mudslide. That is a pretty clumsy signature cocktail. The third was a mule that was not at all well balanced. One of our beverages also had a fly in it. In all, our service and server was great, the location was really cool and the meal was ok, but not 200$ with tip at all. We've eaten here several times, including twice in the last couple of weeks. Food has been excellent, and no issues with service. We were a little disappointed that we had reservations for 'outside' for our last visit, and rather than seating us on the 2nd floor balcony as we expected (perhaps that was our mistake, but that's what we interpreted 'outside' to be when we made the reservation online, and what it had been the previous time we'd been there), we were seated in the lower patio area where the band plays (and the balcony was open the entire time we were there). Ultimately, we did enjoy the people that were performing that Friday evening, so it wasn't so bad. BUT, and this is a BIG BUT, if anyone from the restaurant reads this, please, please, please put some more comfortable chair out there. Did whomever purchased those things even sit in them beforehand? VERY UNCOMFORTABLE (I'm talking about the ones with the rounded lower back). ALSO, what's with serving plastic cups? Hardly a fine-dining experience, and the floors are just as hard on the balcony, where normal glasses are used. We're likely to return, but we definitely do not want to sit in those chairs, and will get some clarification as to what 'outside' means exactly when we make the reservation. read more

Overall a really unique spot! Visited the grounds last weekend and we were not disappointed! It is very beautiful, if you've never been you can order drinks to-go and walk the area! We started with drinks which were very satisfying and the octopus! It was fork tender! Moving on to entrees, I got the special which was a duck carbonara and my SO got the crab cakes! Enjoyed a lovely brunch on the outdoor patio. Great ambiance, and had patio heaters to help with the fall temps. Western omelet and meatless Eggs Benedict tasted good, especially with a little hot sauce for zest, and tummy home fries. read more

Atmosphere was the only upside to this visit to Allenberry. It seems that the quality of the service and the food have begun to spiral downward. We were met near immediately as we arrived at our table. The restaurant had 7 other couples inside at this time. A few people filtered in and out, but this was no where near to even half capacity. We ordered our drinks and appetizer, this was the last time we had good service throughout our visit. Our server came back to take the app and never refulled the water. We waited and he came to get the entree orders, he was not versed in the menu nor the preparation of the dishes. Our entrees arrived and I finally had to ask the runner for water. The server came back to fill the water and I asked for a steak knife for my large overcooked pork chop, shocker that this never arrived. My wife order scallops which we thought would be drizzled in a white sauce, to our surprise what arrived was best described as a weird thick and heavy souped laced with pungent fish sauce and whole mushy textured scallops mixed within. The mushrooms (which she asked to hold) where very moist and burst with a dirt like flavor( I normally love mushrooms) we let the server know that the meal was subpar and his response was " if its any consolation, I didn't prepare it". I muscled through dinner and wanted a drink to wash this taste of failure out of my mouth. I had to repeat my martini order twice and the bar tender in a seemingly upscale establishment had to ask for multiple particulars on a Gin Martini and a Gin Fizz. To say the least this eas our third time in, our most unpleasant experience and likely our last to visit this once great. I write this sitting waiting for my Hendricks martini and it arrives with a large gap to the rim, if you know martinis you know what's missing. read more

Solid 3.5 but I need to round down to 3 because I was very disappointed overall. We made a reservation in their private tasting room for a party of 12 before the Mamma Mia show on Saturday. The reservation was for 5:30 and the show was at 7:30. I pre ordered a dessert sampler and hoped we'd have enough time. We were greeted and sat promptly and our server took our drink orders. We also added appetizers then. Shortly after we ordered our food. So far so good. Well now we're getting to 6:45 and we have not received our food and I began to panic especially because the dessert was something special I had planned for the birthdays we were celebrating. When I asked our server she seemed panicked but told us that she'd go check on it and its just because the kitchen often gets backed up because everyone comes there before the show. Well if that's the case wouldn't they be prepared? I've worked in the restaurant industry I know how this works. So for a few minutes after we had staff peeking in on us and finally the doors opened close to 7 with our food. All of our food except my Uncle's which we were told was given to someone else. We were all finished with our food by the time he got his food. By then it was like 7:10 and we started the desserts which were delicious and beautiful but we were so rushed at this point. She brought us out the checks and boxes to move it quickly but for the price we paid for this experience this was not good. Also during the evening she never checked on us to see if we wanted drinks. We never got refills on water, we had to almost flag her down to get anything and I know we weren't high maintenance. When I followed up with the events coordinator she told me that that's why they have a smaller menu for these kind of things? Well then why did she give me the option? She asked if I wanted to do a private dining or order off of the regular menu. I asked if it was okay to order off the menu since we had varied tastes and kids too and she said sure. If I would have known that THIS decision would have rushed our evening I would have worked with them. I don't like being made to feel that this was not their problem. The food overall was meh. Not worth the price for sure. All of it was cold or room temp. Nothing came out hot. Maybe that's also my fault I don't know...again communicate that when you plan with me and I can work with it. And my husband's kale was charred which was supposed to be I guess but it literally tasted like charcoal. It was inedible. Same with my mom's root vegetables with her fish. None of us ordered anything complicated but no one really liked their dishes and had no heart to say anything because we were trying to celebrate something special and had to make it to the show. On a good note the grounds are wonderful (I will review Allenberry separately) And the staff who took the older members of my family to the playhouse in a golf cart were so great! The play we saw was awesome and the playhouse is just so cute! I'd definitely go there for a show...But I'd sadly select another venue for dinner with a larger party. read more

My partner and I went to the Barn Restaurant at the Allenberry for Valentine's Day. I didn't realize there was a limited menu for the occasion at first, but there were a good selection of options to choose from and you could pick either soup or salad per person, an appetizer to share, two entrees, and a dessert to share for $105 (add $20 for two glasses of local wine). The Space: Our reservation was early enough that we could get a good look at the grounds in the daylight, which was beautiful. We were definitely interested in seeing more. The interior of the restaurant was also very nice. Our table had candles and a small vase with flowers. Nice touches. The Food: We both ordered the Fried Green Tomato salad. When it came it seemed more like it would be the fried Green Tomato appetizer than a salad, bit we ate it and thought it was delicious. We ordered the truffle fries as an appetizer and I could barely stop eating them. Super tasty. For entrees: I had the barn pasta which was described as handkerchief pasta in a beef ragu and ricotta. There was no meat in the sauce and while it tasted okay I felt it was underwhelming. My partner had the strip steak with potatoes and broccolini. She really enjoyed her meal and all of the food overall. I would probably rate the food itself a 4. For dessert we had the chocolate lava cake. Also very delicious. Service: I will start by saying that eating out on a holiday we expect the service to be shotty, but it felt like it was more so for us than other couples in the dining room. When we ordered we placed our entire order at one time. Tables arriving after us were getting baskets of bread before us as well as all of their courses. It seemed like service was far more attentive to others as well. This was disappointing as I had hoped for a nice romantic experience that was equally as good or bad as anyone else at the restaurant. Overall I think we may come back and give the Barn another chance as the food was pretty good and grounds were on point. Hopefully the service will improve. read more

Tonight went out to dinner here with fellow co-workers and had a very good meal here. I would recommend the Parmesan Truffle Fries. The dipping sauce was great. I had the Grilled Pork Chop and it was juicy and tasty with a peach BBQ glaze that I thought was quite tasty. I finished with a cinnamon roll and vanilla ice cream that was also quite good. Looking around the table everyone's meal looked good. I thought the atmosphere was elegant but not smothering. It was busy and our waiter did a good job. The only minor thing I would suggest is to get rid of the clipboard that the check goes on and get something more elegant. read more

A little slice of heaven in our backyard! After driving by dozens of times over the last few years, my wife and I finally had a chance to check this place out and it did not disappoint! From the moment you enter the resort's driveway, you can feel your blood pressure dip. The grounds are beautiful and the buildings all appear inviting with a perfect combination of vintage charm sprinkled with modern renovations. Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by a trio of smiling hostesses who sat us outside on their gorgeous deck. The views from the deck further place you at ease as you overlook the creek, beautiful foliage and the sprawling grounds. A live band could also be heard playing some tunes on the patio below which was a nice touch. Shortly after being seated, we were greeted by a server who filled up our water glasses and provided some bread & butter. The butter was a yummy and unique blend of some kind of citrus and thyme. A few moments later, our waitress, Amanda introduced herself. Her incredible service and friendly personality perfectly complemented our dining experience. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts for an appetizer which were tasty. For dinner, my wife ordered the scallops which she enjoyed and I ordered a Wagyu Burger with a side of truffle fries, both of which were solid as well. For dessert, we split the Molten Lava Cake which was decadent. They also have some unique cocktails, decent wine list and great draft beer selection. Overall, we had a really enjoyable evening at the Barn and look forward to our next visit. We both agreed that being there almost felt like we had been teleported somewhere much more glamorous than Boiling Springs. read more

A very lovely setting and most enjoyable brunch. We sat outside which gave us a nice view of the river which flows along side the restaurant. Seating outside in the Summer or fall is the best. We stayed at the Allenberry Resort during a recent trip to the area. While there, we took in a play and decided to have dinner. The food was absolutely amazing. We liked it so much that we came back for a second night. Here is a run down of what we had across both visits: Fried Brussels Sprouts - While this is turning into a must have on any modern menu, their take on it was a bit elevated. It uses a preparation of pickled ginger resulting in a slight Asian aftertaste. Fried Green Tomatoes - My wife and I are huge fans of this particular dish. It is quite easy to make a mistake, but they did it justice. The accompaniments really set this apart from the standard aioli. NY Strip and scallops - This is my go-to cut of steak. The first night their steak special was a locally sourced wagu NY strip. It was absolutely amazing. Literally I would go back just for this steak. The scallops were perfectly cooked and added a nice flavor to finish it out. Beef Filet - The second night they swapped the cut of steak to a filet. It was perfectly cooked. This was my wife's favorite dish. Cioppino - This was an interesting dish to put on the menu. When ordering, I will typically choose something different than my wife so we can sample. In addition, I REALLY love seafood. This did not disappoint. It stayed true to the spirit of the dish, but used some locally sourced products to bring it home. Spiced Old Fashioned - Finishing out our experience was the spiced old fashioned. It reminded me of a drink we would have in Seoul, South Korea called a Tree House Old Fashioned. Using a cinnamon stick added a completely new dimension on one of my favorite drinks. But I leave the best to last.... The wait staff was on point. The second night we had a waitress named Michelle who did a fantastic job. She was able to pace the dishes to where we had time to enjoy it without waiting too long. Well done. What really made the experience special was Jasmine. She was our waitress the first night, and clearly had a complete command of what customer service means. She helped us select some of the best things from the offerings for our particular interest, and was always proactive about trying to help meet our needs. On the second night, she even came by to say hello and welcome us back even though it was not her assigned table. That kind of attention to detail is what separates a great service person from simply one who is doing a job. She truly seems to view her craft with pride. If possible, I would recommend you ask for her when visiting. Overall, it exceeded my expectations and I look forward to a return visit. read more
