We purchased a pre-owned Kia Soul from this dealership in Jan 2026 and were told it had only been in a minor fender bender with purely cosmetic damage. The Carfax report indicated the car had been repaired and serviced, so we felt comfortable moving forward. As entering into the hotter months, we found the AC is not working properly. And we brought the car back to the dealership for a check and they would charge us $400 diagnosis fee unless if the warranty covers it. We decided to go to a different Kia dealership to get a second opinion and issues were found: - The car had a leaking radiator hose and the hose was also not properly clamped prior to sale - The AC system was not properly serviced with too much Freon added, (still had 560g in the system after 3 month leaking) There were visible coolant pink fluid stains in the engine bay at the time of purchase, which we questioned after opening up the front hood and the salesperson dismissed as something they could "clean up" however it was not cleaned when we picked up the car. We thought it was cosmetic and didn't question more. We had to spend $800 out of pocket to fix problems that should have been identified and addressed before the sale. An update, I did hear from the GM and he was going to check into the issues I presented and reach back out, including how I had tried to contact the service manager through phone and email with no response. I never did hear back from him. He did say that the cost I was quoted was book and off of KIA recommendation, if I only replaced part of the exhaust system and aftermarket it would be less. My entire exhaust system did not need replaced, but it was suggested by the mechanic and service writer. I also had just had serpentine belt done and they suggested I have that done. When I mentioned to the GM about this and likely they went off carfax and this was not reported to carfax yet (that it was done a few weeks prior) he concurred. (ummm....?). They also recommended an oil change and said my oil was BLACK and a quart low. I checked my oil on the spot at dealership (as I had just had it done a couple weeks prior and it had about a thousand miles on it) - it was not even close to black and was a little low due to the catalytic converter issue I have no doubt as it can cause you to burn oil. Since this, I have learned that service writers at the dealership are paid commission and I have not confirmed yet about mechanics getting a commission but it was suggested they do. Having a company sell you repair services to extend the life and maintain your vehicle is a very dishonest profession if they are getting commissioned on these sales. This explains the way my vehicle was just pushed through to make a mechanic work sell and not actually addressing the issue. had a reputable mechanic handled this right from the start I would not have had a weeks worth of hotel expense in the area, the multiple trips in to have this issue fixed and also another stay at a different hotel and mechanic. As a consumer, my time is also valuable and having just moved here, on the hunt for a house and living off of savings, this was a major issue for me, not just an inconvenience but a major issue and I do not appreciate the way this was handled from day one. read more

I overall felt bullied and manipulated on multiple points of the car buying experience. Some of it was to their benefit, and some of it was either spiteful or just negligent. Came in for an inspection. Told them in the notes I had an alarm which cause a burning smell with the heater running. Said cant do anything about until basically another week. I needed to know if it was SAFE to drive I was told she can't find that out. Called another kia was told to come in immediately the next day and that I should not be driving it around. Took my car in to service dept. in October to repair a non-working passenger lock and a/c not working. I've owned the car less than 2 years. Door lock was covered by warranty, but a/c repair would cost $3000. Part needed to be ordered so I picked up my car and waited for a call back. No call back. Called a few weeks later and left a message...still no call back. Called back in December...the part had never been ordered and I would need to talk to my service rep. He didn't answer and never called back. Finally got the part ordered in March and requested an oil change and state inspection with the door lock repair. Picked up the car and no oil change or state inspection done. Do not deal with this service dept unless you have to! Terrible service! read more

Don't take your car here for any service or body work. We were told they could help with a fender repair, but almost 2 weeks later, were told they couldn't do it because they don't do body work. Seems like a simple question to answer when you call, but evidently it is more difficult than I thought. We were then also stuck with a $200 bill to do a 'diagnostic' that we didn't need that supposedly was related to the body work, that they couldn't do in the first place, and in no way could be related to a bent fender. We inevitably came back and made the deal but it was only because of the rapport with our salesman. An honest and great experience. I called about a Telluride advertised online. They mentioned there was a markup but agreed since it wasn't the same price as online, it's fair to honor the MSRP online. Sadly, Fred Anderson in Raleigh doesn't have the same integrity and only communicates markups when you've already driven to the dealership, look at the sticker, drive the car, and tell them you're ready to buy. A practice strongly discouraged by manufacturers. But University was awesome during the entire process. Davonte was great, we had our 4 year old with us and everyone was patient, even brought him snacks, and knowledgeable. It was smooth friendly but still professional. This was a very frustrating experience! We liked the vehicles that the dealer offered but the process was very shady. It took about two hours to look at a vehicle and only to find out the true price! The dealership is very shady when it comes to the pricing. Each vehicle has a sticker price, but that isn't the true price. Wasted two hours being lied to. They used the old "bait & switch" move to get us there. Then tried to lie about what they were selling us. Calling them "shady" is a compliment. Called them to get pricing for a Forte LXS. John sent me a work sheet with a great price. While shopping other dealers, they warned me about University Kia using shady tactics to get you in the door. They warned that I was getting price for a lower trim line. When I contacted John at University, I specifically asked about the LXS. He confirmed the trim line. (See photos) When we were almost there, John texted that he had given me the wrong price. We were almost there, so I went anyway and ask him why he gave me wrong info. He apologized for the mixup, then assured us he had a new LXS. After test drive and trade-in talk, he worked up numbers. But folded the paper so we couldn't see everything about the car. Turns out he tried to sell us a USED car while claiming it was new. We walked out. I don't understand what they hope to gain by lying about the cars they're trying to sell. These guys have no interest in gaining repeat business. And they won't get any business from any informed buyers. I do not recommend this place. read more

WORST new car buying experience ever. Vehicle was ordered in February 2023 and finally arrived in April 2024. When it arrived, the car lacked a number of options we ordered and still waiting on options (e.g., cargo area mat and wheel locks). Neither management nor staff know their product. Both tried to pass off the plastic shield located on the underside of the vehicle as the metal skid plate we ordered with the car. This was our 2nd Kia. After getting a 60k mile service yesterday, the car had a shimmy in the steering and the alignment was not right. I brought the car back this morning and they said the shimmy was probably because of the tire rotation from yesterday and they would return those tires to their original place today while we ordered new tires to arrive tomorrow. But, they would not check the alignment issue without an additional fee, even though it was aligned when I brought it in yesterday and now it isn't right. We have had every service done for nearly 4 years and we're about to order tires (and pay for an alignment for those), but when they wouldn't fix what they had caused, I lost faith in their honesty and willingness to stand behind their work. read more

My first encounter with the service department was on Jan 15th, after being referred by University Ford concerning a noise complaint from a 2021 Kia Sedona I had purchased on Nov 3rd. When I brought the vehicle in, I was told by "Josh" that they couldn't service the vehicle because the noise had temporarily stopped. I decided to take the vehicle to a dealership closer to me since Durham is an hour's drive for me. The technicians at Deacon Jones Kia in Goldsboro did a visual inspection of the vehicle and determined that the issues would be better addressed with the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. I made another appointment with University Kia as I was led to believe they were better suited to fix the problems. On the morning of January 9th, I dropped off my vehicle and around closing time I was told that that something was clogging the radiator and that further diagnostics were needed. I was eventually provided with a loaner vehicle which we had to hunt for in the pouring rain since the vehicle was not where they said it was located. Jan 16th I was finally able to speak with someone in the service department after leaving 5 msgs with no return calls. The entire time my vehicle was being serviced there was a total lack of communication. On the morning of Jan 30th, I received a call that the vehicle was ready. I thought fine all was well because the warranty covered all the work. However, upon returning the loaner vehicle a small dent was discovered. As I stated when I received the vehicle it was pouring down rain, so I did not have the opportunity to look at the vehicle. So, for all I know the damage could have happened before I took possession. The wind was blowing hard, and something could have struck it. After pleading my case to no avail, I had no option but to file a claim with my insurance company and pay University Kia a $500 deductible. If this had been my vehicle, I would have never filed a claim for such insignificant damage. My experience with this service department just added to my total disappointment that started with my purchase of this vehicle from University Ford. read more

Worse than a bad service is lying which is what the service advisor did. I walked in for a routine service and was offered different service option of which I picked a "premier service". I waited for a hour and a half and I had to enquire about my car which was parked outside for about 15 mins and no one had the courtesy to tell that the service was done. At this point I had some other queries which was not addressed properly and was asked to bring it back again( it's fine, I was ready to bring the car back in). On asking about the status of the service of the car, invoice was provided. Now I see a reduced price on the invoice for the service package requested. Before payment I asked for the reason for reduction in the price to which I got an answer that "the prices were knocked down because of my inconvenience ......." . Not being convinced by the answer, I read through the contents of the invoice. Turns out only basic service was done. To get another confirmation, I waited for the same service advisor. Since he was busy with another customer, I spoke to the next available service advisor. Upon review of the invoice and system by the New advisor, he confirmed that no premier service was done and offered to do the additional service free. I felt disrespected cause of being lied to and I kindly refused the free service and decided not to come back to this service center again. read more
