Would give 0 stars if possible. Went in for an oil change and tire rotation (routine maintenance). As soon as I get out of my car, immediately pushed for additional services I did not request, declined and asked just for oil change and tire rotation. I purchased a routine maintenance package from Mopar when I purchased the vehicle from a dealership in Northern VA. They stated that they only saw where the oil changed is covered, which I called the dealership in NOVA and got them to send me in writing the details of the plan I purchased. When I showed this to them, they stated it still only covered "10 oil changes / oil filter changes" and the rest isn't covered, and the fact that all other Mopar dealerships have never had an issue with this, including the NOVA dealership who explicitly stated to me on the phone that tire rotations are included. Even told me that the fact I got tire rotations included up to this date was "lucky that I got that over". The blatant disrespect, ignorance and disregard I was treated with is infuriating. Please do not do any business with these crooks, it's all a money grab for them. Photo of maintenance program purchased for reference.

My wife drops the car off for service and tell her to get approval for anything beyond what we've asked for (check out a wire dangling from the bottom of the car and an oil change). They call back and say that the car needs some $700 service work done at the 30k mile mark. This apparently is an oil change, tire rotation, AND they change your air filters and windshield wipers. I tell them NO and stop by the Advance Auto Parts down the road and replace the air filters and wipers in their parking lot and save about $500. They did suggest a new battery but wanted $190 to replace it. Advance Auto Parts sold me one of their best for $90, installed it free and gave me a 3 year replacement warranty. Another $100 I'll keep. I know it's an Acura and all, but this place never fails to shock me at the prices they charge. i guess some people must let them do this otherwise they wouldn't tell me these ridiculous prices with a straight face. I'd have given them 1 star, but they did fix the wire for free.

Months back I started hearing noise that sounded like rubber on rubber while turning. I had the car services several times, changed breaks and such, I never mentioned that to anybody and nobody said that something needed to be fixed so I did not worry about it much. Noise got significantly louder over the past two months, so I decided to take the car for diagnostics at University Ford. I made an appointment online for one Friday at 1 PM. I get a call from them around 3 hrs before the appointment that they need a car in the morning for diagnostic. Ok.... So why was I able to make an appointment online?? Anyways.... I dropped off the car that Friday at 2 PM and left it there. I was informed they would try to have the diagnostic done by Monday morning. So they had 4 hrs on Friday and 8.5 hrs on Saturday. I was waiting for a call from Daniel with an update. He did not call so I called him and left a message. No call back. I called the service department number and left a message. No call back. Monday morning, I got a text with a report: replacement of rear differential, cost $3685.34 plus tax. What?? I called Daniel and I asked questions. Finally, I said ok. But it did not sit with me at all. I started researching that particular problem extensively and my car had NONE of the symptoms that would suggest such repair was needed. NONE. So, I called again and asked what exact part was failing and I was told they couldn't see the part because it was enclosed. They decided on that repair based on the sound. I asked: you do not see the damage, but you want to repair it??? I said: I want back every single part that is going to be replaced in my car. Then I did more research and it did not sit with me. According to my research, a failing differential makes a metal-on-metal sound, not rubber-on-rubber. And again, my car does not display any other symptoms. I called a friend who used to work for Ford for years and now trains mechanics at the community college. I described the situations and he said that I should have replaced fluid in the rear differential and see if that helped (I found the similar suggestion during my research). I called Ford late Monday and said I wanted my car back to get a second opinion. Since it was too late to pick it up that day, I told them I would be there on Tuesday. Tuesday at 7.30 AM I got a call saying that I had to pay 20% restocking fee for parts. What??? I said I wanted to talk to a manager. I had to wait for him to call me back. And off I go to do research again. According to NC Motor Vehicle Repair Act Paragraph 20-354.3 (in short) a repair shop has to provide an estimate for the repair and ALL fees associated with this repair, including parts, overhead, taxes, etc. If there is no written and signed estimate or if a fee is not included in the estimate (any fee, including restocking fee), the shop has no legal right to charge you that fee. The same thing is also mentioned in NC Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices: business cannot charge an undisclosed fee. I printed everything and was ready to fight them, but interestingly I got a call from them that the manager decided to waive a restocking fee. Hmmm... Cool. I got my car. Next day I took it to Green Ford in Greensboro, had the fluid changed and guess what... NO SOUND. I also had it inspected by my friend on a lift and he said there was absolutely no reason to replace the entire differential assembly. Now I wonder, are the mechanics at University Ford educated enough or did the services department intentionally tried to rip me off. THEY TRIED A WRONG GIRL!

The Carfax report indicated the car had been repaired and serviced, so we felt comfortable moving forward. As entering into the hotter months, we found the AC is not working properly. And we brought the car back to the dealership for a check and they would charge us $400 diagnosis fee unless if the warranty covers it. We decided to go to a different Kia dealership to get a second opinion and issues were found: - The car had a leaking radiator hose and the hose was also not properly clamped prior to sale - The AC system was not properly serviced with too much Freon added, (still had 560g in the system after 3 month leaking) There were visible coolant pink fluid stains in the engine bay at the time of purchase, which we questioned after opening up the front hood and the salesperson dismissed as something they could "clean up" however it was not cleaned when we picked up the car. We thought it was cosmetic and didn't question more. We had to spend $800 out of pocket to fix problems that should have been identified and addressed before the sale. Total scam and trie to get rid of their broken car. Do not buy from this dealership!

What has been most disappointing is the lack of communication and follow-through after the sale. She suffered a radiator reservoir explosion, and I had to pull over ASAP before a fire started. I had already been ready to retire her due to other future repair costs, but circumstances forced my hand early, so I got to work researching available and newer Subaru Outback models. I visited one large dealership within five days, but their staff were extremely duplicitous, so I promptly left feeling very misled and annoyed. Enter the exemplary and professional staff at Durham Auto Mart: Chip, Toby, and other colleagues who I did not have the pleasure of meeting. I found a listing on Carfax to Durham Auto Mart for a 2013 Subaru Outback that looked in great shape, awesome Carfax report, low mileage, and in an excellent price range. I called Durham Auto Mart to inquire, but Chip sadly and graciously informed me that another buyer had already made an offer. He promised to call me back if it fell through though. And that he did. I was sitting at home pondering how long it would take to find a better deal, when suddenly my phone rang, and Chip gave me some excellent news. As my luck would have it, the other buyer was militantly insistent on trading in his very, very old car, which was not in good enough condition to be of any resale value, and somehow this condition completely undid his commitment to the 2013 Outback. Chip and I spoke for over 30 minutes. I asked him intensive, detailed questions about the vehicle, and he answered all my queries with specificity and patience, and he deeply impressed me with his knowledge and passion for all automotive matters. He was so authentically convincing that I (wisely) chose to immediately book an Uber and head straight for Durham Auto Mart. On arrival Chip greeted me heartily, and we got straight to business. I took a long look at the Outback and its myriad new features, then Chip and I took it for a test drive. I absolutely loved how it handled and was sold on it within minutes. On return we began the long and laborious process of certifying credit, transferring insurance, signing innumerable documents, and even hit a bizarre snag whereby Equifax decided that I didn't exist! Chip handled the problem ably and with determination. We learned that it was simply an issue with my name (I have two middle names) and eventually the system cleared me with flying colors and a very reasonable interest rate. Throughout this process, there was no artifice or deception from either Chip or Toby. Both of these gentlemen were straightforward, honest, and did not pressure me at all. Durham Auto Mart's transfer fees are low compared to competitors, there are no hidden "junk" fees bundled in with the purchase, and Toby explained all my warranty and financing options in detail. Some dealerships might have tried to take advantage of my inexperience in buying a car, as after all this was the first vehicle I'd bought in 20 years, but Chip and Toby did the exact opposite. They acted in good faith and treated me with grace and respect throughout, and they were excellent conversationalists. I strongly and without hesitation recommend Durham Auto Mart as a business and endorse their staff as trustworthy individuals. They have been in operation for nearly 50 years and my experience with them abundantly demonstrates why they have endured for so long. Independent businesses are so important to support in an era of increased centralization and corporatization, so if you need a car, even from afar, give Durham Auto Mart a call. -Anthony Joyce
