We came to visit here on a Saturday evening. The place is very modestly decorated with nothing that really stands out good or bad. We had a party of 6 so not a super small party but also not massive. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken quickly. Unfortunately after that, things slowed down. Once we finally ordered multiple people at the table had salads, however only half were brought and the waitress quickly walked away before we could ask about my salad. She then did not reappear for over 5 minutes and we told her and after a few more minutes my salad came. After a pretty long wait after that, probably close to 40 minutes after ordering the food came. Well, most of the food came. Two people at our table were missing side orders. We again waited on the waitress to return and once notified things were finally brought out. The food that we got was all pretty good but the repeated forgotten items and rarely being checked on made this a less than stellar experience. All in all the food was good and I might give them another shot, but if I got poor service again I would probably opt to not return.

Home style diner offering southern favorites, pizza and subs, salads, and more. I've been dining here for years since moving to the area. I enjoy dining at University Kitchen when I have an appetite for typical diner food. Great atmosphere for groups and families. This visit I ordered meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread. $13.99 Decent value for a full plate of food. I choose gravy for my meatloaf. The meatloaf was okay, too much breaded in my opinion. This gave the meatloaf a gummy texture and I couldn't enjoy the flavor of the ground beef. The mashed potatoes were good. I like when my mashed potatoes have a little bite and texture, these didn't disappoint. Green beans were seasoned and okay. The cornbread was really, really good! It was sweet but not too sweet, firm and fluffy. I enjoyed it! The service is what you would expect at a southern diner, very accommodating and friendly. I would recommend University Kitchen if you are looking for a quick home style meal.

Doordashed a couple dogs for lunch. It was reasonably priced and satisfied my craving. I did realize, after gobbling down the dogs, that I didn't even put the slaw on them (clearly served on the side) -- probably why I kept thinking something was missing but was too preoccupied by eating to notice until after the fact. Not my favorite, but will order again (and not forget to add the slaw!) when the craving arises!

You know when you're really hungry and you get some food and it smells good and you do your food dance but then you bite into it and it isn't good the Mac n cheese was nasty, the apples were completely mushy and not good either. The mashed potato & gravy ok... The sweet potato casserole was pretty good, and the massive garlic bread stick was great. The service was good, super nice customer service, got it quick but I definitely was disappointed with the meal.

University Kitchen comes highly recommended from locals in the High Point area. One night my husband and I decided to try it out and overall we will be back to try more. This spot has a pretty good menu from subs and sandwiches to full on main course meals with great sides to choose from and a piece of garlic bread to top it off. My husband ordered takeout and got their wings which happened to be a very nice size and he loved the flavor. I got the meatloaf with brown gravy which happened to be a bit disappointing. You get to choose between tomato sauce or brown gravy, even though I chose brown gravy mine came with tomato sauce baked on top and brown gravy poured over that. As you can imagine it wasn't an appealing combination. We also ordered a grilled pork chop meal to try which came with two very good portions of grilled chops and were tender and juicy! These meals all came with choice of two sides and all of them were great from the pinto beans, sautéed spinach, mashed potatoes, and collard greens! Each meal also came with a side of bread and we both opted for garlic bread which was also great! Overall, I'd give this place 4/5 stars and would be back to try more and also go inside to get the dine-in experience!

This is diner food with Southern comfort service. Family friendly, with an added little bar and select drink menu, which I feel is uncommon to find in these kinds of establishments. I want to say our server's name was Kristen, apologies if I'm wrong, but she was ever so attentive and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Other employees were also friendly and manager/owner checked in us. Lots of regulars it seems. Chicken livers were a bit over done to my liking, collards don't appear to be grandma's homemade style, more like the Old Glory canned I buy (but I buy them right?). Wish they had chow chow for the pintos. Maybe a few tweaks here and there like a bit more sauce on spaghetti, but again, you know what you're getting. Serving sizes were plentiful & overall satisfied, especially with the service; this is a good joint to hit if you're wanting some comfort food.

Meatloaf with tomato glaze, mashed potatoes with gravy, mac & cheese, and cornbread!! Delicious

The University Kitchen has good, basic food. I have been there a few times, only for lunch, and it is always very busy and pleasant.

Good variety of entrees and veggies. The best thing by far? The banana pudding! Reasonable prices and hefty portions. Yum.

Tucked away in a small strip of businesses off Main Street, it's an unassuming place that is easy to miss but is a must stop. It definitely is more "bar that serves good food" and not a classic pizza place. Service is always friendly and fast, the food is always good, and the drinks too. It's a small location sometimes cramped when they're busy but worth the wait. The only downside here is they close abnormally early for a pub so you've got to go early!

By the standards of the latter, it's nothing special. We ordered a medium George's Combo pizza (pepperoni, sausage, beef, green peppers, and mushrooms) and an order of fried mushrooms. Food was read on-time, and it looked good. The pizza was generously topped, and the mushrooms were a nice golden brown. Those mushrooms were addictively good. Dip them in ranch, and you'll have a hard time stopping yourself from eating more than you should. The pizza was more of a mixed bag. The toppings were tasty as was the sauce: robust with just a hint of sweetness. However, the crust was mediocre, and $20-plus seemed steep for a medium pie. I can imagine that George's might be a fun place to watch a game, and it's certainly convenient, but it's far from the best pizza option in town.

With plenty of notice, this was no issue, and they were actually 20 minutes early making the delivery of a stack of hot pizza's to our office. We had minimal interaction with the staff, only the driver, who was friendly. The pizzas were all tasty, and as i mentioned delivered hot and ready to eat. They didn't skimp on toppings, especially for the meat lovers pizzas, they were loaded up. The crust wasn't anything that WOWed me though, it was soft, and thin, but lacked any real flavor. But any pizza is good pizza in my opinion. Their pricing was fair, and they delivered as scheduled!

I…read moreactually grew up in High Point, but had never eaten inside the actual restaurant until a week ago. That said, I have had pizzas either by take-out or delivery several times over what has to be 30 years now. Lately, I had a couple basic pizzas from them at a function in downtown, and we also stopped in for lunch on a total whim, wanting a pizza buffet. First, the pizzas over the years. I would say, on par with most of the locally owned pizza and local franchise spots around, like an Elizabeth's. Sometimes, I would describe the pizza as dry, other times, the sauce ratio is a little better and it is quite good. The pizza is a solid 4 stars, I would say, if you're considering a pizza... go for it, decide for yourself. Now, our most recent experience inside the restaurant, was simply not a positive one. We came in around 1pm, wanting to do the pizza buffet. Unfortunately, looking at what was available, it just wasn't appealing. The pizza was very cold, it needed a refresh. We expressed this to the waitress. If she had said "we'll make you a fresh pizza of whichever type you want" we'd have been game. That's not the response we got, so we moved on to hot subs. I ordered the meatball sub, my wife ordered chicken parm. The meatball was, just ok. The meatballs themselves were sliced and warm, sauce was the same I was used to from the pizza, cheese could have used more time to melt, but overall... I was OK. Her sandwich, was not good at all. She did write her own review about it, and I happen to agree. It's generally expected that ordering a chicken parm sandwich at an italian pizzeria is going to be a breaded cutlet. What was given was the shaved chicken that you would normally see if someone orders chicken on a pizza (not my thing, but to each their own). The result was very very dry chicken. The sandwich sat on her plate with two bites taken out of it for the meal duration. No prompt was given for whether we enjoyed our meal. In all, I learned my lesson that day, that this place is good for a fresh pizza. I'll only go that route in the future. The sandwiches were simply not our preference. The chicken parm needs to be rethought, or better explained as shaved chicken.

Gotta love a good southernism. I still like a whole pizza fresh when it comes to this style. Unless you happen to come at a busy time (actually prefered in this case) you may be getting a re-heated slice that could have been out of the oven for quite awhile. Reheating pizza by the slice to order is of course a common industry practice, but once they sit a bit too long, your end result can be less than ideal. If I think I can eat the leftovers, or definitely if I am sharing with someone, I definitely go the full pizza route. All in all, while I don't tell anyone to rush to Mario's because you absolutely have to have it, it is as reliable as they come at pretty much any of their locations... and that is much appreciated.
