Our family has used Shur-Way for several decades and multiple family moves for us, my in-laws, and now the estate of my parents. We moved into my parents' coop in 1968. The move out today of the big furniture was bitter sweet, shipping things off to my out of town siblings. So many wonderful memories. ** UPDATE ** Delivery was just as bad!! Loosely packed my PS5 and Xbox with a bottle of billiard/pool chalk, chalk on everything. Left my garage looking like a warehouse with boxes that should have went in the house, driver said he'd be there at 9am and didn't make it until 5pm due to Matt not sending them money for movers or a truck in San Diego. A common theme with Matt!! Avoid at all costs, look elsewhere, any Military make sure to exclude Shur-Way from your moves you'll thank me! ** AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! ACTIVE DUTY, MAKE SURE TO EXCLUDE SHUR-WAY ON YOUR PCS MOVE** I'm Active Duty and have done 5 moves and never had the issues I'm having with Shur Way. Background I'm moving from IL to CA. First, they left a lot of items such as a PlayStation, wires, cables to TVs computers, sound bar etc and the driver told me he thought I wanted to take those items with me so they didn't pack it. Why would I need a sound bar and random wires if I'm moving cross country? Second, they left 2 boxes, and my grill outside and when I called them they said they would come back the following morning, no issue with that. My issue comes with being told my items were originally on a truck for shipment then they decided to take it off the truck so it can be shipped together with the items they missed/left behind and now I'm looking at an additional 2-4 weeks without my household goods or my wife's work items. Don't you think that perhaps my family would need all our clothes, beds, dressers, furniture etc asap and we can live without a grill and boxes of towels for a few weeks? When I called, Matt stated our stuff was never on a truck and it's been waiting for a full shipment before it can leave. My house has been packed since 10/14, it's 10/20 and there's still no other shipments to take my items? There were no other shipments before that? Also if that's the case, someone lied because why was I told my items were on a truck, and magically I'm being told they were never even on a truck? Completely unprofessional. Matt said he has until my no later than date to get my house hold goods, glad to see they strive for bare minimum. No communication or updates until I decided to call on my own. Movers were talking bad about us in Spanish unknowing to them my wife speaks Spanish. Read the reviews, avoid at all costs, completely unprofessional, let them go out of business with the way they treat their customers. Absolutely terrible company to work with. They shouldn't ever be allowed to move military families. Completely unprofessional, Joe argued with me about what he had told my wife he will do then asked me to take stuff apart because he didn't hire a third party. So much broken and lost stuff. If you are military and you get this company assigned, request a different one. I've been in 15 years and never had this terrible of an experience. Best move ever!! We went with Shur-way based on several recommendations from friends and we are so glad we did!!! By all accounts we had a fairly large move, three floors and a basement, three 26' trucks. Javier, Colt and Adam were the team leaders with Anthony, John, Marcus, Aiden, Willie, Chris and Dresden. They all introduced themselves to us and could not have been nicer!!! They work fast, efficiently and carefully. No request was too much and because we moved to a new house with some tricky areas we were concerned that certain furniture wouldn't fit in certain rooms, but they all worked at it and everything got in!!! Do not trust this company to move your items. They solve problems ineffectively, communicate poorly, and demonstrate a lack of concern for their customers. While hauling my household goods last summer, a Shur-way driver accidentally rolled over the trailer transporting my items. Thankfully, the driver experienced no injuries, but Shur-way's response to this accident was unsatisfactory. Rather than coordinate for one new hauler to transport my items, they split my shipment between two trucks. The first truck arrived on time, but the second truck was not scheduled to deliver my items until two to four weeks after the delivery date stipulated in contract. None of these changes were communicated to me, including the decision to split my shipment between two haulers. When I was eventually notified of these updates by another moving company, my transportation team contracted another hauler to finish my movement, which delivered my household goods two to three weeks before Shur-way's expected final delivery date. Even though accidents happen, Shur-way could have responded to this event more effectively by communicating changes and coordinating more efficiently among their teams. Their inability to accomplish these basic tasks as a large hauling corporation demonstrates their disregard for customer satisfaction. read more

Worst experience ever. Scheduled for PCS move for Army. Packers showed up on time, no boxes or supplies to do packing,waiting outside in 95 degree heat. The truck was "30 minutes away" but showed up 4 hours later and then couldn't finish job, and we had to call and schedule for them to come back next day because we needed to be out of our rental. Screwed up our scheduled move out cleaning, postponed our walk through with landlord and our moving day due to their incompetence. They should lose their contracts with the Army because they suck, it looks like this is typical treatment of military relocations and frankly our military deserves better. Just saw a truck with nobody in it in Claremont. 1500 block. In the alley I saw two guys with shur way jackets on smoking weed. Not sure if they are doing that on the clock or before a job but could explain all the broken stuff reviews. It's before noon and now the truck is gone so I suspect they just finished a move and are on their way to their next. Pro stoner tip: take off your work jacket before getting high in the alley. 2 stars because some people do just fine smoking weed and working. CAUTION: Broken dishes.....damaged furniture.....$761 cost to move 10 minutes to my new home. Be AWARE!!! I chose a more expensive company to move my 1 bedroom apt to ranch home, because I've used cheap, in-state movers and was certain this would ensure a safer and more professional experience. I WAS WRONG! 1. No call before arrival 2. Came into apt building unannounced when I wasn't there before start time. 3. Very hostile attitudes 4. Very rough handling and loading of furniture/boxes. 5. Broke items while moved in bubble wrap/in box. 6. Still finding broken and damaged items. 7. Didn't finish move in 3 hr minimum. Total cost $761 for 3.5 hour - Saturday move. During the move I decided to move pictures and mirrors myself based the poor loading of items. VERY EXPENSIVE. TERRIBLE SERVICE. Unfortunately I used Shurway this August 2023 and had a terrible experience. They loaded the truck without wrapping my chairs getting grease stains on three. They put the mattresses on wrong. Like one box spring on one bed and one on another. They scratched my new floors, scratched and nicked several pieces of furniture. (One piece that they had waiting in the garage that they sat on to drink their Gatorade. the broke part of the mirror on my dresser and hid it. When I pointed it out they said, "it happens and it's only cosmetic" They lost several pieces used to reassemble the mirror on a dresser and also to hold together my sectional. They left an office chair without one of its wheels. I could go on unfortunately. They stated that they stand behind their work, and when they told me about the insurance, they said that if they have problems they fix it. However, when push came to shove they do not stand behind it. The rep at Service pro (the HS friend of the Shurway manager) called Shurway and told them to just replace the chairs because they would not be able to get the stain out. After that I received an email from said manager stating that they would only reimburse me for what I signed for insurance. They had in writing told me what they would agree to and they completely reneged and then never responded. They no longer came to clean the chairs nor the carpets that they stated they would do in that email. They were to clean the carpets because they did not put floor coverings on the new house floors. I am including a couple of pictures just so you can see as well. Needless to say this was very disappointing and very poor customer service. I had a two day move and on day one half the workers just took off leaving my house in complete chaos. It was a maze to even get through my home. I had to walk around and find the cushions for my sectional that were left in multiple rooms. Actually, only half of the sectional was moved. The cushions were not wrapped or covered. They were thrown in the truck for my couch, as well as my outdoor sectional. I had a bookcase moved that they pushed along my uncovered wood floors and then was told by the mover that he would not move this anymore, even though it was not in the spot that I wanted, and he walked. The head mover was not even aware half the team had left. When I called the manager that evening, the move was in ship shape for day two. If day if day one was handled the way that day two was there would've been no issues but that took me calling the manager multiple times very frustrated and requesting that a manager be on site for the remainder of my Move. They also left water bottles and garbage throughout my old home. I would encourage anyone that may consider using Shurway to watch them like a hawk and make sure they are wrapping everything, moving slowly, and as they take things apart that they put the Nails, screws etc. into baggies that are labeled with what they go on. This was by far a very, very horrible experience. I used them six years ago for my move as well and had issues with the customer service. I flagged this to the manager of my past experience and he let me know that Customerservice had been improved etc. which it had not . I am happy to share more context privately. Bottom line, they agreed to repair scratched and damaged wooden furniture, scratched wood floors, paint where they left considerable marks, clean the carpet and the greasy furniture. Some of these things were taken care of, but when it came down to the things that could not, they refused. I was accused of being harsh. Which I was very frustrated, but they accused me of being rude to their vendors. For some context, I am still using the wood repair guy and Servicepro. I have texts I can share from Service pro stating that I was very pleasant and not an issue at all as well as from the wood repairman. Months later I am still finding things that were in boxes that were damaged, etc.. overall, I don't think you want to go with any company that you would even have to have that amount of agreed-upon repairs. read more

I usually don't complain about much but having moved 4 times in the last 10 years, I'm pretty familiar with how a move SHOULD go. This was by far, the worst move I have ever experienced. It started with only 3 movers showing up when they told me there would be 4. The truck was too small to fit everything in it (thank God it was a local move so had a friend with a pick up truck make a couple trips to get the remaining items). There were at LEAST 10 pieces of furniture either knicked, torn or completely broken. On top of that, they damaged the walls in both homes. The worst part is that I called 3 separate times to talk to someone and never got a call back. Very disappointed and will never use them again or reommend ShirWay to anyone. read more

Hands down the most terrible experience I've ever had with a moving company. I'm surprised that they have secured a contract with the military. I hope nobody else has the experience that I did. If I could give no stars I definitely would. A "crew" of 3 gentlemen showed up to "unpack" my belongings. I'm active duty so I was no able to be at the home to oversee the unpacking process so my wife had to be there with our new born, so needless to say she had her hands full and couldn't be on top of the movers. It was a Friday morning and one of the guys just kept openly complaining out loud to the other guys, "this is not how I want to be spending my Friday" not caring that my wife was there and could hear everything. They kept complaining about how the company that packed me up did a terrible job and why they would individually wrap certain things. They were slamming boxes and literally throwing the empty ones down my stairs not caring that a new born was there just making an obscene amount of noise. They broke several things in the "unpacking" process. I put unpacking in quotations because they didn't unpack my things they dumped the boxes everywhere. They dumped kitchen boxes in the bathroom and kitchen boxes in the bathroom. Nothing was where it was supposed to be. They are supposed to clean up after themselves, but my place was a wreck on top of the shit job that that they did with my stuff. They dropped things on my front lawn on the way in and just left it there as they clearly walked passed it to get back to their truck as they left. They even left stuff on my front porch right outside my front door. I've included pictures so that everyone can see and hopefully never have to go through what my family and I did. I'm not a person who just writes negative reviews because I'm hard to please, I'm all about writing positive reviews as I did for the company that packed me up. They were awesome!! I don't know how it was a complete 180 with the unpacking company. I even spoke with the manager and the person seemed very surprised and concerned. He was empathetic and apologized. I sent him an email with my situation explained plus pictures. He responded and said he'd get back to me, but surprise surprise I haven't heard anything. HORRIBLE experience with Shur-Way Movers in Whitefish Bay, WI! This company was blocking a thoroughfare on a one-way street with cones without a permit. Instead of moving small cones that they placed in the street when traffic was present, the employees of Shur-Way were incredibly RUDE and disrespectful to my wheelchair bound son's bus driver and myself, calling me a "Karen" and making fun of me. After going back and forth a number of times, when the bus driver and I asked them to move the cones so that the bus could get to our home to get our child off of the special needs bus, the Shur-Way employee moved the cones for the bus, but by the time i got back in my car, he blocked the road again. I asked him to move them and he continued calling me names, Neighbors and myself then called the police who talked with the workers and the Shur-Way employees falsely accused me of using racial slurs at them. I then called Shur-Way to talk to the manager who then hung up on me. Unreal! No one should ever use this company with such low ethical quality read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! I had numerous pieces of furniture broken, chipped and destroyed, as well as $16,000+ of my jewelry and collectable trinket boxes stolen. In September 2021, during my move I saw an employee of Shur Way Movers {Libertyville} named Gabriel, lift an unsealed box (they did a horrible packing job) from the back shelf of the truck and stumble with it while dancing to the hip hop music they had playing on the truck. Two items fell out of the box. As he bent down to pick them up, he started to look at the contents of the box, but I had to turn away at that moment because another Shur Way mover distracted me by asking me where to place something he was carrying. I never saw the box leave the truck or enter the house. The next morning I began to search every nook and cranny for the missing box and continued searching for three days to no avail. The box was cleary taken. I called the Shur Way customer service number and spoke to Raegan. She said that all trucks come back empty and there were no boxes found in the warehouse because if there were, she would have been notified. She said that she would ask the dispatcher to "keep an eye out for it," and would have a manager call me the next day. I called back the next day after not receiving the promised return call and spoke to Raegan again, pleading with her to please have someone thoroughly search the trucks and warehouse for that box. She told me that she would have her manager call me later and in a very sarcastic tone said: "have a nice day," and literally hung up the phone on me. I ended up filing a police report with an inventory list, receipts and pictures of most of the contents of the stolen box valued at $16,000, but my belongings were never found and no one from Shur Way ever even bothered to return my call. My husband passed away in December of 2019 and my engagement ring was in that box, along with all of my other jewelry from childhood on, as well as heirlooms jewelry and my collection of trinket boxes from all over the world, I think I at least deserved my call returned. The packers did a good job but failed to attach several inventory tags. That caused issues with actual inventory vs the paperwork at time of delivery. The movers on the pick up end were fast and professional. Unfortunately they were the only good part of this experience. They can have a 5 star shout out. The movers that delivered the goods were slow to unload and difficult to understand. The language barrier between us was a constant issue. Overall they did okay. They only sent two guys for 5,200 pounds of stuff, seems like too few movers IMO. Finally and most importantly several items were damaged or destroyed completely. If you care about your items I do not recommend you use this mover. Booking with this company is a "Shur-Way" to have your valuables and furniture ruined or damaged. Shame on you Shur-way. First-they were the most expensive company we got bids from. Second-when there was an issue on our move in day, their customer service was terrible. We called several times always treated rudely. The team that moved us in was quite good and moved fast-no issues there. The team that moved us out had 3 of the 4 guys were very young and basically screwed around much of the time. Ten minutes into packing I heard a crash, a piece of my good China was broke. Delivery men damaged a wall, broke my tv stand, and broke a dining room chair. A few hours after I submitted photos of the damage to Shurway, I got a call from them wanting me to pay hundreds of $$ more for insurance. Hired them based on many good reviews from friends. Well shur-way moved us yesterday. The quote said it wouldn't even take the mandatory 2hrs which is $375. So we agreed. Well at the end it was $520. My back went out during the move so unfortunately I had to go to the ER 1/2 way thru.. I'm a Disabled Veteran so I was laying in the VA ER I watched on Ring as they ran a dresser into my $5000 front door and damaged it along with the trim and crushed the corner of dresser. Then the mover screaming profanities at the top of his lungs outside as he slammed my door as hard as he could.. there's 11 kids in my col de sac. So I went tho the house and they knocked off a light from the ceiling also, which was literally installed a week ago. No one admitted to damage but I have video. I made a list of where things were to go, no surprise that nothing was in its correct room except for master. So we'll see how their claims dept is, I blocked payment thankfully so they were quick to call! I'm sure if I didn't, I would be like the other reviews here where they never called back. If I could give a negative star, I would. We moved from a 5th floor walk-up in Lakeview to the burbs. The moving team was late and then when they saw that they had the five flights of stairs to walk up, the team of four was completely deflated and lacked luster. The team leader was a super nice guy, but man--as a five month pregnant woman, I ran up and down the stairs quicker than the team of four comprised of 20-somethings. They easily took twice, if not three times longer to move our stuff out than a team of two movers we had previously from Checkmate Movers (we could not use them this time b/c we had to park the trucks overnight b/f moving into our new place). They took their sweet time and it was only when I told them that the Cubs were playing a night game and they sure as heck get going before the streets got crazy did they get some pep in their step. I complained to the company. Joe (I think that was his name), the dispatcher, really took his crews word over mine and cut me an uber slight discount for the move-in side of the job. He said the crew said it was hot and given that it was spring, they had yet acclimated to the climate. Well, it was not THAT hot whatsoever and had they worked more diligently, they would have been done before the rain clouds disappeared and the sun came out. The crew, which was allegedly 'professional', certainly was not. The crew that moved us into our new place (they knew I was not happy with the prior move out performance) did much better, but then again, it was a much easier move in (just into a double-story house.) I went with Shur Way to support a local family-run operation. The guy who sold me the service was super nice, but when I called to give him feedback, I never got a return call--nice, way to stand behind the service you provide. Hey, I get it, it was a tough move--but that is the job and that is why we hired 'professionals'. Unfortunately, we did not get what we paid for. And again, we had had a great experience with Checkmate Movers, so we know it did not need to be as horrible as the ShurWay crew made it. If I could give a zero, I would. They ruined ALL of my wooden items when moving, then upon filing a claim, I was told all of the items were damaged prior to the move, so they weren't liable. They used codes on the sheet I had to sign to release my items to them, and upon closer examination, they essentially had it written that EVERYTHING they were moving was damaged when they picked it up. Complete lies. Since I signed these papers, they said I can file a claim through the military if I still think they owe me money. Jokes on them. I can prove they lie, because areas of the items they said were damaged are not, so good luck with that. I just don't want anyone to go through the stress and financial burden of using this company for moving. Do yourself a favor and pick a different moving company! read more
