Love this location because those working here are super helpful. I've been dealing with a multitude of mobility and strength issues, and the 14lb container of kitty litter is just too much for me to handle. I refill my jug at the cat litter station and leave it there. I then let the cashier know and they ring me up without me having to carry the jug to the counter. Then they retrieve it and carry out to my car. That's service! This is the Unleashed version of Petco, meaning it's a smaller footprint, a neighborhood store. That works for me! Typically I am just buying kitty litter, a few toys, and sometimes cat food so I don't need a huge store filled with all things pets. This footprint is easy to navigate, I'm in and out in minutes. There is a free underground parking garage right before the entrance making it super convenient. read more

I had a terrible experience at this store due to horrible customer service. This was my first time using the self-service bathing station, so I called ahead to ask for details about how it worked and the cost. When we arrived, we read the posted instructions and tried to figure out how to open the tub, looked for the leads they requested use of and However, we couldn't find the leads mentioned in the sign. After about 5 minutes of trying to figure things out, no one came over to offer assistance or ask if we needed help. Since I couldn't find the lead, I decided to keep my dog's collar and leash on while bathing him. During this time, I noticed a clerk watching us, and I even smiled at her. During this time, no one offered any help. After finishing the bath, I used the blow dryer to dry my dog, and cleaned the station. I then walked to the front of the store, while husband mentioned he would grab some cat litter, so I wandered over to check out the holiday dog items. When we met at the cashier, there was an older woman with glasses and a dirty blonde bobbed haircut who immediately blocked my way staring at me. She loudly and rudely told me in a demeaning tone ,I was supposed to pay before using the bathing station and accused me of using the wrong products. She stood with her hands on her hips and kept repeating herself. I apologized, explaining that I had called ahead for instructions, but she continued to berate me, wagging her finger in my face. My husband and I decided to bypass her and approach the counter. The young man at the register looked embarrassed and mouthed an apology to me. After taking my dog to the car, I returned to talk to the woman. I explained that she needed to improve her customer service skills. I told her she could have easily asked my husband to pay first while I was washing my dog, or during the time we where figuring out the washing system. She could have kindly reminded told us about the process. Instead, she chose to be rude and condescending. She just got defensive and tried to justify her behavior, getting red in the face. I felt physically unsafe. I've been a regular customer at this store because of its convenience, but after today's experience, I will never return. I really like this store. The staff is always so helpful and they never fail to chat up my pup, which she LOVES!!! Our most recent visit was to obtain something that would help our puppy "go".. she was a bit backed up. A staff member recommended a pumpkin soup they had available and it worked like a charm. The store is on the smaller side, and unfortunately doesn't always have in stock what I'm looking for, but understandable given the size. I only live a short distance away, so it's super convenient as well. Parking is free in the lot just off burnside and NW 23rd place (across from Phil's Meat Market / Uptown Center, I believe it's called), which is a huge bonus given the area. read more

We brought all our crazy energy and the entire staff was warm & helpful, offering treats and providing all the tools & supplies for a comfortable, thorough bath for my pup. They brought us plenty of towels and had a blow dryer (if you can stand it) to use if towels aren't enough (: It's best to call ahead to reserve a time for your wash, but they do their best to accommodate walk-ins I really like the layout of the retail space... it's like an organized maze, so when you bring your uber-excited fluffbuddy in for a wash, you can easily avoid causing a ruckus/bumping into other fluffbuddies who are shopping with their owners...that's very important to me since Ducky isn't always the friendliest to other fluffbuddies /: read more

I usually visit Vetco for my dog's vaccination, and this time was very disappointed. 1. The veterinarian refused to test my dog cause she wanted to sell a more expensive product. I wanted my dog to get tested for a heartworm and get Simparica for a month after the test, just as I did last year but she refused to give my dog a heartworm test cause she said she only sells 6-month Simparica, which I did not want to purchase at once. 2. Bad hygiene of the veterinarian She injected two of the vaccines through my dog's mouth by covering the top of the injector with some cream-like liver treat. This method was understandable but she had this treat straight on the examination table (literally, they squeezed it on the table) where all the chemicals and other animals were treated. Even if they sanitized the table, I would've never wanted my dog to eat anything that was on the examination table. If they mentioned it before injecting, I would've said no but I realized it after she was done. 3. No wellness exam They usually give a free wellness exam if you purchase a vaccination package, and they did give my dog an exam last year. They usually check the teeth, pupils, heartbeat, and ears for this exam, but this time the veterinarian did not give this exam but they listed on the receipt that they gave my dog an exam. I noticed this after my visit while looking up my receipt so I'll ask for it at my next appointment. I made a payment for a vaccination package and my dog got half of the vaccinations so I might need to finish the remaining shots, but I can't trust this place anymore and won't go back ever again. read more

This Petco is a lot smaller than most other Petcos. I was looking for the self cleaning litter box. A miracle litter box in my opinion, and this store didn't stock it. They told me I had to go to Jantzen Beach. The one good thing they did have was pill pockets. I usually buy those from my vet for cheaper than Petco but my bet has been sold out. It was time to wash the pup, and this is the spot closest to home that offers rental of their tubs. They've made some adjustments for COVID, and it's a pretty easy process. For $15 it was well worth it to go through them rather than making a mess of my own bathroom. First, you have to have a reservation. Easy enough to call in and make one. They only allow one group at a time. Two adults max. No kids. Masks required. They provide shampoo, conditioner, aprons, and lots of towels. However due to COVID air blowers are temporarily not available. A couple of small gripes. I wish you could adjust the water temp. It was set to a pretty nice warm temperature, but it would be good to have the option. Second, the leash thing that is connected to the wall could stand to be just a little bit longer. My dog was basically pressed up against the side of the tub. But it all worked out in the end. I've generally had quality customer service from this place, and for a smaller urban store (rather than a suburban big box) it's always met my needs. I generally prefer to shop local, but none of the local spots offer this service. So for baths, I'm happy to go to Unleashed. read more

It's rare that one finds such bad customer service at a pet shop which usually attracts workers who are pet lovers and therefore charming and upbeat. It was the opposite of that here- shocking level of employee indifference... such terrible human interaction skills it's entirely possible they had some kind of disorder (but I think it was plain old fashioned rudeness). I came in the store at about 5:55 pm to buy my dog a bag of food, a snack and some poop bags. Within a minute of me being inside I was told the store is closing in one minute (with the tone clearly indicating a 'get the F out' vibe)... fine. So I go to pay and the person at the register replies subtly, "the hours are clearly posted' in the way a misbehaved teenager replies to her father when not getting her way (snide). They really, REALLY should train their employees. As it seems now, their only hiring criteria was the ability to fog a mirror. Just go a couple blocks further east (toward downtown/ the river) on Burnside and when you see the Walgreens turn left on 21st and immediately to the left is Nature's Pet (below the Walgreens)- go there instead. They also have a dog washing station. Plus you'll be supporting small, local business and the employees actually care and are nice. read more

Of course they need to be a tad bit more expensive considering the neighborhood. Going there tonight to buy a car seat for our upcoming roadtrip. Service here has always been very friendly and helpful. People here seem to know their stuff about the products they carry. Its nice to have a pet store in a prime location and close-ish to home. The main reason we come here is for the self-service dog wash. I've ventured into a few other self-wash places and the prices are just nutty for washing your dog yourself. Unleashed is $10 and they give you great natural coconutty smelly shampoo and conditioner which I love to use and its always extra soapy and easy to use. They also have a drying stand with a quick blow dryer and treats to keep your pup from completely hating you afterwards. Unleashed is basically an upscale petco so most of their products are a bit more expensive but better quality and a vast selection. read more

My partner had the door slammed in his face by an employee (while there were multiple customer taking their time browsing inside) after telling them that their website hadn't been updated with the right hours & that we just needed a bag of dog food due to a hectic move (which the employee rudely informed was 'just too bad for us'). Thank god this very specific food happened to be sold at a PetSmart with slightly later hours, I guess, but I'm shocked by the customer service from the store. The few times we've been in before, the employees at this location seem like they care, but today that was definitely lacking. I'd stick to some of the smaller local pet shops for normal supplies & order any special food (like we usually do) online. read more

I love this very high-end, posh pet store. I say that because it is not your run-of-the-mill pet store. In fact, the only reason I did not give them 5 stars is due to the prices - but that is what you get when you go to a higher end "boutique" type of pet store. They have hands down the best selection of "outfits" if you are into the whole Paris Hilton dressing your dog or cat thing (or if you want the purrfect Halloween costume). I bought my cat a stainless steel water fountain here for (cough) over $50 - but she love love loved it. (And aren't they worth it?) "Unleashed" isn't just a pet store selling cat and dog food, they also have all kinds of pet behavior classes and adoption days specials, etc. (Call the store for details). Whenever i have visited the store I am greeted immediately and have always been shown a variety of options - no matter what I was looking for. The staff seems not only knowledgeable about pets, they seem to actually care about animals-- from what I could tell. The last thing I want to mention, which was a step beyond for me: I had just adopted a kitten from the Humane Society and stopped by to get a new bed and some dry cat food. (I already had the wet food). The woman there not only led me to a reasonably priced choice, she told me it was free! (A nice surprise I was unaware of, I guess sponsored through a partnership they have with the Oregon Humane Society). And if there is a better reason to applaud them, I don't know what it could be. They are championing a great cause, getting animals adopted and giving new pet owners free pet food as a way of saying "thank you" for adopting unwanted or abandoned pets. (Hmm..on second thought...maybe I should give them five stars....) In any case, "Unleashed" may be a bit high-end and on the pricey side (hence the 4 stars instead of 5) but they are classy, animal lovers with excellent customer service, great hours, huge selection and classes for you and your pet, as well. I absolutely adore this little boutique version of PetCo!!!!!!!!! So convenient. It has everything I need. I work right around the corner and love popping on in about once a month. It's SUPER clean, organized, and attractive. I buy their cat littler using a refillable container. VERY Oregonian of me, I know. Their litter is really great for me, due to my horribly sensitive allergies. It has NO smell, clumps easily, and doesn't dust up. Bonus is it's only $6 with my refillable container. I went in today for some advice on some new dry food for my kitty. I wanted something with a little more quality and less filler. The guy stocking the cat department was very helpful. Assuring me I could bring it back if Miss Kitty doesn't like it. Love it. There is a super cute little boy kitty with Tuxedo markings I've seen there for a few weeks. Poor little guy. 5 stars for Bridgette - she was awesome -- she took me all over the store helping me w food, dental, and ear & body washes for my little dogs (one has itchy feet lately -- an allergy thing). She had a ton of awesome ideas. I spent $150 more than I planned and felt totally happy about it. But -3 stars for checkout issues. The cmptr froze during checkout (Bridgette told me this has happened to other customers) and so they ran my card again (even though it said "approved") and I was charged twice! Over a few days I had to keep checking w my bank, and then after Petco had me call the bank again, I had to go back downtown to have them return the transaction to my card. Not cool. I probably lost two hours of work time over this (a very expensive cost). Any other company would have tried to make good by giving 30% off the purchase, at a minimum, right? Not Unleashed-by-Petco. The best Shane (manager) would offer (only after I asked) was two coupons available online, one for $5 off, one to be used in the "future." I checked store hours online, said they were open until 9pm. Showed up with my two dogs at about 8pm for the self service dog wash, and the staff member unhelpfully told us that they close the dog wash an hour before close. There is nothing on the front door or the website about this. When I mentioned that, she did not seem sorry in the slightest and just said "yeah no it's not." What a giant oversight and waste of time & gas money. Also, a little bit of empathy from the staff member would be appreciated, even just saying that she will pass the idea of updating the hours along. read more

This store was great. Super friendly staff, and great selection of good product. Pricey? A little...but its petco.... I give it 5 stars for 2 main reasons. 1. It's a much more lax feeling environment that your typical big box petco, and the place is a lot less cricket infested and stinks less of small animal turds. 2. I so wanted to love this place as it is a convenient and inexpensive place for apartment dwellers to wash their dogs. The facility is clean and the tubs are nice but why do they have to water down the shampoo? That's so cheap and it was so diluted there was no hope of lather. Very disappointing. Guess that's why it's $10. I recommend Noah's Arf where you'll pay s little more but you get an assortment of real shampoos, as well as war cleaning supplies and nail clippers--neither of which were offered at Unleashed. I called this store to confirm a free loose leash walking class. The class was posted incorrectly on their online calendar and had taken place the night before. Meaghann, the in-store "trainer", offered me a half hour one on one with my dog that evening to honor what was posted. I thought, cool! So, I drove across town, got there on time, and waited for Meaghann to return from her break. She sauntered in and told me to "wait over there by the table". When she finally came over to meet me and my dog she had a "walking harness" in her hand. Without asking or explaining anything, she took off my dog's harness and put on the new one. It apparently came off the store shelf. Then she started feeding him treats...again without asking if it was ok to feed him, if he had any allergies, etc etc. In fact, she didn't ask me anything about my dog except does he know the command "leave it". What does that have to do with pulling on the leash??? She finally took him for a short walk down the center isle of the store and said "he's not pulling". Well... hello! Of course my dog stopped to sniff every treat and toy that was displayed along the way! Then she gave him more treats...for what? He didn't do anything... She then said why don't you take him outside to see if he pulls. I looked over at my bag wondering if I should take it.... because, of course, I thought she was going to come with us to observe. And she said... don't worry we have your bag... implying that I may walk off with the store's dog harness!! Are you kidding me...my Coach bag and the contents within was worth 10x more than the harness! Extremely rude! When I came back into the store, she said "did he pull" and I said "yes". She said "well, there really isn't anything I can show you in a half hour that will keep your dog from pulling on the leash"! Are you kidding me?? I drove all the way across town to encounter an arrogant (expletive) with attitude who offered no training whatsoever and, clearly, ONLY wanted to sell me the dog harness (that didn't work!). I was there for only 15 minutes. The store is ok if you like to shop at the large chains. If so, I recommend the Raleigh Hills Unleashed, the staff is much friendlier and helpful! They were all extremely helpful. They gave us a new adoption coupon book and instructions on how to help our little baby angel adapt to apartment life. They gave us honest information and advice on brands to use and when to buy certain items. They were awesome. I will be going to this location for all of my pet needs. I'm so happy. read more

Unleashed on Burnside is a really nice store. They've got a great staff and their customer service is first-rate. They greet every (four-legged) customer with a treat, too. Open M-S til 9pm ('til 7pm on Sun.) is a plus in a neighborhood that basically shuts-down at 6pm. read more

My girlfriend and I have been anticipating the opening of this store for a few months. We finally made our way into the store sunday 4/14/2013. It had very good selections that a customer would be used to seeing in your typical boutique style pet supply store. As another customer mentioned, they have a great looking area for self dog wash. This is going to be the store number one seller! In regards to the rating: I chose to rate it three stars due to the unwelcoming customer service we recieved from the manager, Amanda. I was trying to figure out how she became a manager with her lack of people skills. It was as if she was agitated and wanted the transaction to be done and over with. No smile, no eye contact, no verbal greeting (Hi, thank you for coming in today)...I imagine recieving better service and signs of emotion from a robot. The sales associate was pleasant and I wish we could have experienced our entire transaction with her. Some advice for Unleashed by Petco on Burnside: Considering that there are several boutique pet stores in the area, you might want to pay attention to the experience your customers are having. Its a new store in a wonderful location that is not cheap...I'm sure! If you plan on having customers want to come spend their earned dollars in your corporate establishment and not go down the street to support a local pet store, you might want to reevaluate (she may need a refresher course in customer service training) Amanda as a representative of your business. I order my dog food online from Petco (repeat delivery is a godsend and you get a discount!), so my review here is just about the dog wash amenities. My dogs LOVE coming here for their dog wash! It is so easy, and a steal at $10/dog. There are plenty of comlimentary treats in the bath area, complimentary shampoo is provided (although its a little dliuted down, they give you as much as you need and i've never had a problem with it not cleaning well), and all the towels you might need. They have a non-heat blow dryer as well that works awesome! My dogs HATED getting baths at home or in the yard, but they really don't mind them here. The employees are always polite and helpful, adn greet me the moment I walk in, adn help me with whatever I need. The dog wash area is well maintained and always clean, and they clean it again after each wash so things are safe and sanitary. I keep worrying that they are going to raise the price on this because I feel like it is such a great deal! THankyou Petco! read more
