I have some steak knives that are over 20 years old and had never been resharpened before. They had gotten so dull that I thought I would have to throw them away, but they are Henckels, so they are nice enough that I didn't want to give up on them too easily. I had my husband bring them into Unlimited Bladeworkz for resharpening. They came back with narrower blades, but able to cut well again, which made me very happy. My husband said that Jason, the proprietor of the store, was friendly and knowledgeable, and he has brought in other kitchen knives and even pocket knives to be resharpened on subsequent trips there, all with great results. Thanks to Unlimited Bladeworkz, I will hopefully have another 20 years with our favorite family steak knives. This time I will have them resharpened sooner when needed. My husband also said that there was a sign outside the store that they resharpen scissors too, so that will be my next chore for him. read more

Growing up in the area I never thought I'd ever step foot into Knife Gallery. Well, I went recently to get my Japanese kitchen knives sharpened and repaired and I was more than satisfied with the results. The tip of my paring knife was chipped, but the owner (I'm assuming) said the damage wasn't bad at all and that it would be a quick and simple fix for him. My santoku knife was fine, just a bit dull as it's essentially my daily driver for everything throughout the week. Both knives ran me $19. $17 for the santoku and $2 for the paring. They were ready for pick-up the next day. Anyway, as I previously mentioned, my knives came back sharper than they did the first day I got them. I am extremely happy with the work and feel confident that my knives will come back in top shape. I will absolutely be bringing them back in the future when they need to be sharpened again. read more

It took exactly 48 hours between placing my order with Jason in CA and enjoying my mini-bugout with titanium scales in NJ! My EDC spends most of its time in my fanny pack or in a small purse so it can't be too heavy. I had flirted numerous times with the mini-bugout but, in the end, at 1.5 oz, it felt too unsubstantial for my taste. The Ti scales (pre-installed by Unlimited Bladeworkz) turn the fun, bright and peppy mini-bugout with orange scales into a serious knife. It still just 3.75" long when closed and weighs in at only 2.4oz. That seems to be my Goldilocks size and weight. I chidingly said to my husband that my new Ti-mini-bugout was competition in looks, material, and function for his small Sebenza. This is a decent knife shop. The younger gentleman that helped me was polite and answered all my questions. I probably handled 15 knives, and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. Here's the only issue, this place is very expensive. I needed the knife as a gift the day of my visit and I probably paid $35 above online retailers. Now I understand you will pay a premium for the retail location, and the personal attention you receive from an employee. Additionally, it was helpful to hold the knives in hand, but I still left with a feeling as if I got way overcharged. The place has been in business for 40 years and is the oldest store in the mall (the employees words). So I value giving local shops my business. Sadly, at such an upcharge for a knives I could get for 40%+ cheaper online, I can't see myself going back. read more

I saw a post on Facebook today that they are closed. I also checked the web site, and it's down. I will really miss the Knife Gallery. I bought many cooking knives there and Joe, the owner, was always a very knowledgeable and helpful when selecting the proper one. They were the only ones I'd let sharpen my best ones, and they always did an excellent, professional job. I also bought several LED flashlights and several other items there. I just loved going in and looking around. They will be greatly missed and I hope Joe will be able to find another, better location to reopen. The Orange Mall (or whatever they call it now) is dying, and with J.C. Penney and Sears now gone, it won't be long until most of the other stores close also. read more

I brought my Böker Kwaiken Tactical Flipper in for a tune-up after almost two years of everyday carry - not only did he sharpen while I waited, but he finished it on a leather strap by hand and had it slicing through paper again in what couldn't have been more than 5-10 minutes with a perfectly even edge (impressive on a coated blade that had a few nicks in it!). We chatted about new knives coming in soon and about their generally impressive selection of knives (but also flashlights, camping tools, and men's grooming products - their signs said to remember Father's Day and I bet most people could find a great gift for Dad in here!) and overall it was a great experience. The bf and I are looking for some special knives for some upcoming occasions. While Plaza Cutlery in Costa Mesa is our main go-to place, Knives Gallery definitely is our second best place to go to. Over the years, there's been mainly one person who would help us. I think his name is Chris? Didn't see him in the last year when we browsed on by, but was helped by another employee instead. I hope Chris and his family is doing well... I will have to say that Jason was very professional when he was helping us out. I would ask him questions about certain things, and he would provide me with very honest answers. For example, they don't have the cake knife/server sets because of supply and demand, but they do have cake knives. And, in the end, the bf and I went and got a Miyabi Santoku knife as our cake knife cuz we're a-dork-able like that. For the most part, we want a knife that's meaningful to us, and that would probably have more uses than just slicing a cake. They did have the Frog oil, which is crazy awesome for your swords and knives, especially with cleaning and getting it protected. This store was literally the first store we've ever went to that actually had it, so we bought a bottle. Also bought a few tsubas here, as well as got to see a few of the swords. They had these adorable Jack Daniels tin barrels as shot glasses, so had a few of those. They also have steins and decanters for those with the drinking vice. Once Jason figured that we were "knife-y" people, he got super-energetic and made us very comfortable in asking questions, while he suggested a lot of different knives and knife steels (totally thinking of getting an M4-steel knife now, although only Benchmade seems to have it in only one size). I'm definitely appreciative that he knew his stuff, and didn't bullshit us. Overall, it was very fun to shop at Knife Gallery. Had an awesome time talking with Jason and getting ideas and more stuffs added to our wishlist. Will likely be back. read more

This was the first time I purchased from the Knife Gallery and it won't be my last. Great selection of entry level, mid grade and high end knives from EDC, to kitchen, to hunting/fishing. I was really surprised at the inventory in this little store and even more surprised by the service. It was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon and only one guy (Jason) who was working around 12:30pm. He was super helpful, able to help everyone and still form a relationship with each customer.
